I had a great time at the Joliet Area Historical Museum. Saving Power Church hosted a function there. Appetizers and drinks were served on the roof top, and with the summer breeze and sun setting it was heavenly. Later, dinner was served in the lower level and it was beautifully decorated. The staff was professional and very helpful while being present, but not intrusive. I highly recommend having your next company, church or family get together here.
I went for a shower it was a very nice. The worker extremely welcoming and helpful.
Awesome! So much history here in Joliet and alot of it is on display here!Free to get in and definitely worth the stop!Plenty of photo ops! Spend an hour or so looking at all the displays. Go into the gift/souvenir shop and maybe throw a few bucks in the donation box.So glad we stopped in!
Great little museum that is housed in an old church. Its great to see a building repurposed. I enjoyed a nice 2 hour walk through the museum. I highly recommend this museum if you have some time to check it out. I also found a Groupon code to make entry even more appealing.
Great place very roomy and the employees are very helpful
Very nice museum, went during the Route 66 Red Carpet corridor event.
The exhibits were very informative. They have things from space to military to creating barbwire. To electronic gadgets from way back when. It showed life in Illinois as well as the people who lived here long ago. Its not very big but it delivers big education and a lot of fun. They do fun things for kids. We went on a scavenger hunt there to find collector cards for Star Wars from the 1970s. This is one of the fun things they did for kids.
I was hoping for way more for my entry fee. However the front desk staff we nice and informative. One cool thing you will get to see is a restored economy car from back in the day. Joliet has a ton of history and it can be understood why you couldnt fit it all in one place at one time. If they had a larger facility I bet they would have more to offer the general public.
Cute museum, its on the smaller side. Lots of awesome NASA and Joliet prison memorabilia. You can go thru the museum in a about an hour. Staff is friendly and the have a cute gift shop.
We expected much more in the museum about Route 66 so found it disappointing that it was almost exclusively about Joliet. We had little knowledge about or interest in Joliet but we did come away with a few interesting tidbits and facts about the area that were interesting. Dont expect to spend much time there.
Was there for the star wars day its was a good time. They have a lot of photos and items from the past
Great little museum with a very friendly staff.
I go to the Joliet Museum for the Galaxy Comic Book and Fantasy Art Expo every year and its tones of fun!!! Affordable event for a Chicago comic Con experience! They always have giveaways and kids activities where they can win prices! Love the people and the place!
Cool museum with a great tie to Route 66
Beautiful old g of a building to have saved.
Great Museum about the route 66.
Great brunch event on Sunday
Very nice place to learn about Joliet and its history
Stopped here for a I&M National Heritage Area stamp. Really nice museum. The girl at the desk was really friendly, and knowledgeable. The museum was much more than I expected. I had a really nice time visiting the Joliet Area Historical Museum and learned a lot about the area.
Great place to learn a bit more about the Mother Road, with an excellent selection of memorabilia at the museums store. Make sure to use the parking located on the other side of the street, just before you reach the museum.
Always a great time while at their events. Last night Gwen Warfield put on a stellar event. Contact her for all of your event needs!
Joliets history defined by crossroads - from the I&M that linked it to Chicago and the Gulf of Mexico, to the railways and Route 66, this museum gives background to it all. Joliets growth as an industrial city is well-documented. A short video is seen before youre let inside its doors that resemble the canal locks that defined its early days. Its inside a century-old church that maintains its original stained-glass structures. The NASA scientist who made this place his hometown and Joliets place in the moon landing has its own exhibit. Local artists were exhibited while I was there. Theres a section devoted to its nationally-recognized HS band program. A replica of Joliets main street, ironworks, and quarries are the center gallery. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here.
Even though I live in Joliet, I still enjoy coming here especially on their free days.
We went to see what the artists made from the burnt ruins in theJoliet prison fire plus much more.
Quite small but very educational, especially the route 66 info. The staff is extra courteous and knowledgeable
Wonderful museum great stop on Rt66Good restaurants near byAlso good music groups on the rooftop
Loving Route 66 exploration more and more!
Nice museum! We went after the Joliet prison tour at a discounted rate. Museum is cool, spent an hour and a half reading through/looking at exhibits. Museum is in an old church. Very informative and feel it gives you a good picture of the history of Joliet as well as the surrounding area. I recommend the prison tour as well.
The had an event which was great, however they also had games and activities that included latex products unfortunately that could have killed me so I left and had hives for a week
My son and daughter-in-law chose this location for their wedding reception. It was wonderful! Full of history to read about and experience but best of all was the rooftop dining and dancing! It was a beautiful sunny day and we had a fantastic view of the sunset! Ive never been to a reception like it! Also, there were a lot of children in attendance and they had a blast! It was the perfect place for the two of them!
Great great blues band great small venue had a great time
Great events and museum. Mike Brick is a wonderful asset !!!
Great place to see the history of the city of Joliet.
Great place to visit especially if you are from Joliet
Such a shame I didnt know about this museum and all of its events sooner!! We love the craft beer nights and the after hours roof top entertainment in the summer. Such a great deal at a one of a kind venue!! Looking forward to attending many more events here!!
Awesome place lots of blues Brothers stuff, also lots of route 66, lots of history on the area. Definitely a must see if your driving thru
Gorgeous ceremony
It is worth going there just for the stories from the employees. A treasure trove of old artifacts.
Great place to view on the inside you gotta see it....its wonderful
I went to see M&R Rush band play on the upstairs terrace. They are my original prom band. Very fun!!
Very nice and clean cool place very informative
We went for the Halloween bash and had a great time. There were crafts for the kids and various area businesses had tables and games set up. They held a costume parade and it was a blast. The staff are very knowledgeable and friendly. This is a fantastic museum with lots of neat displays of Joliet history. Definitely worth a visit if you have a couple hours to spend.
The museum was full of interesting items of Joliet, a must visit if in the area.
Went with my son on a fourth grade field trip, tour guide was great and the kids had a blast. Ill definitely take the rest of my family.
A Wonderful Museum!! A wealth of history and knowledge can be found here. Its amazing of all the history that can be traced to the Joliet area. The displays are updated and changed out routinely to ensure something new to see everytime you come. If in the area its worth a stop!
Josh makes us go. But we love it.
Fantastic evening of music, dancing and snacks! Cadillac Groove was great! The entire audience was engaged and participating in the performance of this band. Will always return to see this band. I really cherish the museum for the cultural asset it is to our community.
Definitely worth stopping by if in the area.
Joliet has history ! But there is more that is not noted there? Hope they add more to this !
Such lovely people giving us so much information. It was great.
Went for the Burnt District presentation, loved it!! Become a member!!
A very nice place to go.
Very nice and cozy. I just wish the rooftop area had a bathroom.
Went to an event I was invited to by a friend who is in a band and I was very excited to attend. Had a great time, music, food and fun without any drama. I enjoyed myself!
A fun place to go see the history of Joliet Illinois. Small fee $7 some days are free. Go to the ice sculpting they have every November
Parking was a little confusing, but it was a neat little stop.
It was cool to see families with kids totally engaged in the displays.
The play I attended at this event was very nice but they were using the bathrooms downstairs. I had to go all the way upstairs to use the other bathroom.
Very enjoyable smaller museum. Worth a couple hours.
Very nice! Ill have to do the Old Joliet Prison Tour!!!
My son and daughter-in-law chose this location for their wedding reception.
Had a wedding on the top floor. Took to long for our food. And they took the wine very fast without asking us if we were done.
Spent a few hours learning about the little know history of Joliet. Cheap and a fun afternoon for the family
Very helpful and knowledgeable about Route 66 and local history. Enjoyed chatting with them about some local photo opportunities. Picked up a couple new Route 66 books for reference. Cant wait to get back to the joliet area and do some more exploring and photography.
There are a lot of great historical exhibits here.
Love this place!! Great staff and historical displays! Also a great selection of Route 66 items.
What a hidden gem! I didnt know this existed and was a great little museum I had fun
Joliet Historical Museum is a fun way to learn more about the city. Its easy to forget how rich the citys history really is until you walk through these well maintained displays. I always walk out with a new appreciation of the area.
Our first time there was last weekend, for the 9th Annual Star Wars Day and we loved it. A wonderful library to hold such an hour event, the library is quite big too. We will always keep the Joliet Library in mind.
Great venue and museum. Love the rooftop. Liz is fantastic and easy to work with. Looking for a venue in Joliet definitely check it out.
Great
Great displays of local and regional history. From the Apollo missions to the greatest band in the land. A great place to start your Route 66 journey too! If you want a real treat... join them for Joliets annual Star Wars Day in June. Such a good time for all ages.
Love this museum!! So cute, and close to home. The kids also enjoyed it.
Well worth going. Great exhibits
Great place with unique thing. Blues brothers greet you at door. Gift shop had great selection
Great museum! We are extremely appreciative that our home Edwin Ruthven Willard Home and Office historic landmark is recognized along Route 66 in Wilmington.
Excellent museum and gift shop.
Well laid out on several levels.
This place is great...my 7yo and 9yo love exploring all the museum has to offer!
Cool small town America, fueled by the steel industry back in the day.
The museum is okay, not what I went there for.. the rooftop is amazing for any type of party.. I had my wedding reception on the rooftop, thank God it didnt rain... but that place is amazing the view, the aura, the capability to walk around the whole museum... for me a wedding reception should just be a huge party and it was the perfect place for that.. and liz who is in charge of coordinating those functions there is an amazing lady and I highly recommend any type of party to be done on that rooftop... everyone there raved about it...
This place is very cool, helpful staff and interactive exhibits that can involve even the youngest at heart. We will definitely be back to go again.
Awesome museum. The staff is very nice. Everything is in chronological order. Make sure to ask a worker there where is begins because it is confusing. Definitely worth the trip.
The renovations for the banquet hall look amazing. Great place for a wedding or a work event. The museum itself has some pretty neat things, especially for just being in Joliet.
Great place to stop while on Route 66
Real cute place!with alot of info!& have some nice holiday celebration gatherings!
Nice
Great resource for local history. Enjoyed the pictures.
The music was too loud for the venue, the song selection was so, so .
I have been to a lot of small town museums. The Joliet one is my favorite by far. The staff is friendly and welcoming and the displays are really well put together and very informative on the history of Joliet. They are also part of the World Largest, Joliet Public Library Star Wars Day event first Saturday of June. If your like that movie or your kids do. This is an event there not to be missed. If you are in the area traveling or live close by. I would say its worth your time to stop in and take a peek.
Great place to visit
We went there for the comicon convention. The museum ended up being way better! I had no idea that the comicon artists were so dark.
Staff very well informed and educated. Really enjoyed the time spent there.
Not really big, but decorated with love.Nice little museum telling the history of Joliet and a part of Route 66
Very cool! Lived in Joliet for years and never knew about this. Planning another visit
The museum was great and Star Wars days are coming up soon.
Dont expect a history of Rt 66. This is a history of Joliet. Interesting to learn about the local celebrities. The staff was very helpful suggesting a lunch place on the route.
