We didnt realize the museum was closed today but we did tour the village. A very sweet lady was in the art shop. Thank you for being so gracious! Will definitely go back to see the museum!
Coming here was the high point of a trip we had to make to Jackson from SW Arkansas. After a very long drive, we were thrilled to make it to the restaurant. The food was AMAZING!!!! We left, snapped a pic on the way to the Museum and walked in a couple minutes before 4 and the nice lady said the museum was closed. Super bummed. All four of us were excited. My error, I didnt think about it closing so early. Headed six hours home. Would definitely come back to have dinner again if passing through.
Enjoyed the village and shops. The food was great with large selection on the buffet. Loved the decor and history.
Nice place to visit if you have an hour to spare. It’s ok, with a film to start & self guided museum & house tour. With no docent or guide to tell you more about the house & Mr. Jones, it was kind of lame. There is also a wall regarding the Civil War - not fascinated with that at all.No connection to Casey Jones life.
Food was good but the restrooms were extremely nasty. Pretty disgusting going in there right after eating and amongst this pandemic
Fun and educational I was amazed when you go to Jackson it is definitely a must-see
I love all the choices on the buffet & the banana pudding.
My Sister and I took a roadtrip here recently but werent sure what to expect since The Old County Store restaurant is a buffet. I was very pleasantly surprised! You get to choose two meats, four vegetables, and each diner chooses a dessert. It is served family style and you can have as much as you would like. We got the fried chicken and the meatloaf. The fried chicken was delicious. Perfectly crispy and not too greasy. The meatloaf smelled amazing and my sister said it was divine. The sides were very good. We got mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, boiled squash, and black eyed peas. The potatoes were fluffy, the mac and cheese wasnt mushy, and the squash and black eyed pease were well seasoned. The only thing I wasnt thrilled with was the dessert. The peach cobbler was alright. My sister said that the banana pudding was fine, but lacking actual bananas. The restaurant does ask that you wear a mask to enter the building (at least during our visit, which was early July) .Before you leave Casey Jones Village, be sure to check out the garden behind the restaurant. When we stopped by, it was full of sunflowers!
The atmosphere is unique and definitely holds to the original vibe of the store, but the ice cream was only alright (Blue Bell) for a specialty ice cream parlour. No clue how the food is, we just got ice cream.
The old country store & restaurant was great good service good food..family style meal..u choose 3 meats& 4 vegetables...its for the whole table/family..they will bring u as much as u can eat..
Everything was mostly closed, but happy to see this area embrace Tesla EVs nonetheless! Need to get back when the museum is open.
Its not expensive and you can get through it in less than an hour. Theres other things of interest close by.
I have been going to Casey Jones Village since I cant even remember! I am originally from Jackson,Tn and My Family still live there and surrounding areas. When I was very young My Mother worked at the Waffle House right in front of Casey Jones so on snow days (yes, it used to actually snow A LOT in Jackson back then) My Daddy who was a Truck Driver would take My Brother and I to go eat at My Moms Work and then of course we were off to Casey Jones to look around! You would think that two kids would get tired of visiting the same place but I never got tired of admiring the Home and every single thing inside!!!! I honestly wanted My Bedroom to look exactly like it came from Casey Jones house! I dont get to visit back Home often but when I do, I bring My Husband, Our 3 Girls and have even brought My Best Friend with Her Husband and their 3 Boys to share a very special place in My Heart that gave me many amazing memories with My Daddy and hopefully I passed the same down to My Girls.
We ordered curbside service from the Dixie Cafe today for the first time. The meatloaf, squash, turnip greens, fried green tomatoes, and jalapeno cornbread were AMAZING! It only took 5 minutes to get our order! Thank you. We are trying to support our favorite restaurants during this pandemic.
Great place for a day trip. The restaurant has a great buffet but as the years go by they are starting to be a little pricey. The shops there are fun to go into and look around. Unfortunately the prices are a little high for my budget.
Love this place! Great food, ice cream and awesome gift shop!
Weve been coming to Casey Jones restaurant for many years now and love it here but this is the first review. We drive from Memphis Tn. and that is no problem because we enjoy the drive and we love the food. The spaghetti, ribs, catfish, turnip greens, hot water cornbread, neck bones, candy yams, baked chicken, fried chicken and the deserts whatever we want will be delicious. Here are the pictures
It was a cool place.
A very neat little museum about a famous railroad story. Actual telegraph machine and steam train engine. The kids really liked climbing on the engine
Neat little inexpensive place to stop on a road trip to stretch your legs and learn about one that the kids today probably never otherwise would. It was a happy accident we happened upon on the way to Memphis.
One of the highlights of our trip to America. This is a really well put together museum. Spend 30-60 minutes and be sure to explore his house, even just to see how the average middle-class family used to live - cool!
Fair price, short informative video to start the tour. Very cool room full of old train and Casey Jones related memorabilia. A replica train car outside that you can climb on and ring the bell, which was my sons favorite part. The home had really cool old timey furniture and decor. A nice shop as well, with a variety of gifts. A little pricey on my opinion but not extremely overpriced. 5 stars and a great place to visit for anyone, and especially train lovers.
Recently visited and truly enjoyed the entire time there. The food was great. The store very warm and quaint. The museum was very interesting and told the story of a great American hero. The city of Jackson is clean with friendly people. Even the drive up and back was good. Highly recommend!
We enjoyed seeing this, it is a part of history of why the Ballad of Casey Jones was written. Price was reasonable.
The food was great and the price was just right. Its a great place to just look around. The fudge is delicious little expensive.
It was cool for a touristy thing in a small town. Would be REALLY cool with kids though. Friendly staff and plenty of on site parking. The food at the buffet was southern grandma style and the sweet tea was fabulous.
Very cool story and the kids loved the train stuff.
8 7 2017 visited. Very nice set up. Tons of historical items about Casey Jones. Staff here is extremely nice. If you have a small child that likes Thomas the train they will love it here, there is a special area just for Thomas stuff and train boards to play on. Or anyone that just like trains this is the place. In the museum you can watch a short film about Caseys life and events leading up to the fatal day. Then browse the rest of the museum and see items and memorabilia from the time period. The self guided tour also includes his home that you can walk thru, then you can climb aboard the train and ring the train bell. Everyone enjoyed the time spent here.
Ate dinner but the museum was closed
Casey Jones village has been a favorite of mine since the late 80s when my wife and I started going to the Jackson flea market. They had the best buffet we had seen and now we still visit it occasionally and they still have a great buffet, with some of the best blackberry cobbler you ever tasted. I encourage anyone that enjoys a good buffet with good home style cooking to check it out.
Had a blast. Very informed on Casey
Had lots of fun, informative and friendly staff. Will definitely be back to visit again.
Very interesting. Good way to spend an afternoon
We love taking family & friends to Casey Jones Home & Museum. Friendly folks & atmosphere make it a favorite destination. Love to bring children to hear stories read at 10 am Wed when available.
A Real Meal ! no hamburgers, no hot dogs or fries and a nice salad bar if youre on a Diet
Great place to bring the grands! Tour Caseys home, the museum and let the kids play with all the Thomas the Tank Engine toys. Get aboard a real steam locomotive. Our grands love it!
Great breakfast...anything you could want!
There was a pretty long line but we were seated in a very reasonable time. They have southern cooking. Everything was seasoned very well and kept stocked at the buffet at all times. The waitress was friendly and attentive. Very enjoyable experience. Well worth the trip from memphis. You should definitely try them. Excellent breakfast as well.
Nice clean museum with a lot of train memorabilia. Several hands on things for kids to do, even running an electric train set! Caseys home was nicely done as well. The country store and old fashioned icecream parlor was good! We didnt eat there, but there was a lot of people there to eat, even at 2 PM
Good place to spend some time. I like the museum, very educational. The restaurant is usually crowded, but the buffet has a good selection of well seasoned food options.
Cute place.. skip the gift shop in the complex its just a junk shop. Nice place to stop while travelling. Just off the highway. Did not eat there but food looked good. I did have ice cream it was yummy.
The family dinning was awesome.
It was closed but still amazing to look at!!
Delightful. Full of information and history.
I am a history lover and I know the Johnny Cash version of the Casey Jones ballad, so I expected to enjoy the visit, but the museum far exceeded that expectation with its informative video, its massive holdings, its access to the house, and its replica train.
Very nice family friendly
Great! A bit hot lol
Great place to visit. Childhood memories for me. Glad we stopped. Highly recommended if you grew up watching Casey Jones.....
It was fun and very informative! All the memorabilia and historical documents were neat to see!
A real treasure. Great home cooking and a really neat environment.
History, food, art, flowers, trains and so much more. This is a must stop for families passing through Jackson TN. The shops in the plaza have so many interesting things to see by local artists. The history behind Casey Jones is also intriguing.
One of the best places you will stop at on I40. The resurant is awesome as well.
Great museum and free parking. Store full of stuff and buffet. Good place for train buffs. Store touristy.
We enjoyed the museum, house and train so much! I highly recommend this place!
Awesome! Loved every bit of it.
Neat place for a piece of history that is often overlooked. Easy in and out from interstate.
Good food and shopping for souvenirs.
No buffet its family style now and the food now isnt very good, portion size is terrible!
A nice slice of history!
Lots of great railroad memorabilia. Great that the story of a real hero has been preserved.
The displays are well done, interesting railroad history, very friendly staff. Thanks, I had a nice visit.
This place was awesome. We had a lot of fun.
Great historical place
Very informative.. loved the train history.
Ridin that train, high on cocaine.... Actually, a very neat little complex of museum, shops and family entertainment. A must for every railroad aficionado!
Wow things have changed here! Some for the better some okay some not so sure! Food was great as always. Service seems to be less than before. I liked paying after I ate versus before! Was confusing to pay then wait in line.
Really enjoyed walking around looking in the museum and other things out in the village. Also, played miniature golf
It was a little crowded but nice. We loved talking to the shop owners. Got some nice things as well.
Nice shops. Restaurant has a carry out side and buffet section both with good selections. Nice gift shop and old time candy.
Loved my stay here! Highly recommended!
Great place. Fun & interesting museum for a history buff!
Great for the train enthusiasts. Neat up close look at older trains. If youre looking for something different to occupy a child this is a unique opportunity
Nice little historical spot
Love to stop, and especially when I get to bring new people!
Nice Little Museum, Great story about a Great Man who gave his life to save others. Definitely worth the stop, we really enjoyed it
It is good food and lots of it. It dose come at a price though. Also if u have peanut allergies plz do not come here there and s peanut on the floor because u are all and to throw then on the full
Great railroad exhibits both inside and out. I really liked how they have an original Illinois Central steam engine outside coupled to a real Illinois Central passenger car sand of course followed up by a real Illinois Central red caboose. Restaurant around ther corner and Casey Jones hotel across the street. You can even stay the night in a caboose motel room.
Love the breakfast buffet. And their baked beans.
If youre a fan of steam trains and history its worth checking out.
Picked up desserts for church dinner. Friend and church member purchased 3. You can try with all your will but the hardest things to resist are peach and blackberry cobblers. Wonderful!
This was an awesome stop to sightsee . If you are a train enthusiast, the stop and see this piece of history .
Good food and environment, nice staff alot of memories here
I like taking my granddaughter to look at the train, and visit all the shops.
None of the museum stuff was really open. The restaurant is awesome! The shops were mostly junky brickle brack. Definitely recommend eating the buffet!
It is worth the time and money to visit. Clean and easy to get to.
Decent food if you go early BUT if you go later expect old dried out sausages and bacon. Dunno about lunch as they serve foods we just dont eat
Great southern buffet. The store has large selection of southern goodies. They have a garden growing an assortment of food they cook.
Great place with loads of history. There is a lot to see and many documents and artifacts. The place does a good job at providing the history of Casey Jones, separating the fact from the fiction. The restaurant across the way is not too bad. It is a buffet with southern cooking, not too bad but honestly I can name a number of places with the same style at a better value for your dollar.
This place was so cool the only thing was on the train repulaca you can only go in the control center, and the other train in the parking lot is actually an office.
An interesting tourist trap. The restaurant is okay, its like a Old Country Buffet or Cracker Barrel type of place.
Great community support! Thank-you from CMS!
Great history, super exhibits, great walk through of home, delicious food
Interesting exhibits, clean facilities. Lovely bishops. Awesome banana split at the icecream shop.
Great place to grab an awesome blue plate special! They also have a really cool store to browse through if busy and theres a wait. Dont leave before you try the awesome the hot corn cakes cooked fresh on the griddle in the middle of the restaurant. Super goooood eating, just dont eat too many.
