An intimate venue with an aesthetic all its own. The acoustics are excellent throughout. There isnt a bad seat in the house.
Great venue I went and saw a hypnotist named Chris Jones and he was amazing. Would definitely go to another show of his sometime soon hopefully. I would highly recommend him because hes the real deal.
They have a neat farmers market
We seen NEKTAR last night! Wow!Hope they continue to get Legendary groups to come to Indy. We will be there. Thank you Irving Theatre!
Music draws the crowd. The bands are what it’s all about. But this venue does not have beer, alcohol or bar food. Get ready to stand on a slope the entire time. And it may smell a little funny. Love the exposed history of the ceiling and walls.
So happy to see this landmark being used. At night there needs to be better lighting bc the floor is a little hazardous. I hope that the fresh paint fumes in the restroom have dissipated by now. Restrooms were super clean!
The greatest rocky horror showing I have ever been too! So much fun!
Its not bad. The screen is small, and can not drink. Yet the shadow actors I saw were amazing.
Saw Anthony Homes at this venue. Quite impressed with the employees and the venue itself. Excellent evening!
I mean the Irving Theatre has seen its much better days. The place needs renovated but the charm of how it use to be still lingers. And they have really good older groups that ppl just dont pay to see anymore there ... Like JETHRO TULL .... And they totally rocked that little theatre....
So many good memories through out the years !! Thank you Irvington Theatre
Have seen RHPS here 3 years in a row. Never fails to entertain! Would definitely recommend.
Great place, they need a update heating system for winter.
Went to a Christmas arts and crafts show here. Had a lot of unique and interesting things to offer. This was our first time, but I understand that they do they every year. Worth checking out.
Great for more up close/personal feel to performances
Went to see Forest Green play here and was surprised at the size of the place! It sounded great, however the place did feel a bit too big for the size of show that it was booked for. Would definitely go back though! Cool little spot I didnt even know existed until recently!
We attended our high school reunion here and it was beautiful! Had a fantastic time! Irving Theater is an old building but was beautiful inside!
Very friendly, great sound, great show! Pauly Shore, New Year WIN!
I got to see an awesome burlesque show. The cast was great and the area just reminded me of school theatre. The only issue is that Im pretty sure there was no insulation so it was pretty cold but considering the performers were being pelted with stage lights they probably appreciated that lol
Pretty cool joint. Some good shows come through and I have been to quite a few private events there. Always a good vibe.
Great location for the art fair recently!!
Ill have to go again before I can officially say anything for certain, but it appeared to me that this landmark could use a serious face lift. The interior looks as though it has been gutted and random seating has been thrown in to accommodate whatever event they are holding in the building. The was no a/c, no amenities other than a bathroom. Ill update after my next visit. They do host a slew of great events so Im guessing my experience this go around may not have been the usual deal.
Ive seen some interesting shows here. Ones you may not see at other live music venues. Nice place with plenty of spooky vibe.
Always a fun experience with Angel Burlesque!
Listened to music, STEVE WINDSOR & various other musicians. Sat outside enjoy the nice summer evening listening to some great music it was a very nice enjoyable time very talented people
Great venue for local musicians
Super cool theater. Has an awesome deconstructed look about it. They offer alcohol at some events and have an open mic on the deck on Mondays.
Classy old theater in Western Irvington with a very minimalist industrial feel inside. Its got plenty of charm and was a great place to watch a smaller concert for a band that wouldnt fill up a venue like the Murat. Plenty of nearby street parking in neighborhoods. Would happily go to another concert there.
I enjoyed it and the variety and people are fun..
We saw a charity comedy show. Good show. The theatre was ok. It is an historical structure and is in need of remodeling. There is no ceiling and no concession stand. The state of disrepair adds a certain charm.
Interesting little space with some age to it. A few parcans and a couple of follow spots for lighting and probably some projection equipment unless that was brought in by the Rocky Horror folks. Would love to know some history of this little space and the area.
Halloween puppet show was outstanding!
Staff is VERY rude. Prices are too custom to change and tend to get pricey quickly. Tried to support this small business but they dont really deserve it due to their attitudes..
Love seeing Rocky Horror here. :) Great shadow cast.
The diversity of poetry, music, and acting of course, is some of the best i seen in indy so far.
This was so fun, and the artist/poets did awesome! I cant wait to come back!
This is a great listening room. The Songwriters Circle once a month is awesome.Check out the event schedule. There are often surprising shows.
Attended a Mad Hatter presentation featuring a line-up of several comedians, July 22, 2017. The show was very good, kept the audience laughing. Comedians interacted with the audience increasing the enjoyment. There were liquid refreshments available at reasonable prices. The interior of the theatre has been gutted but was very clean & it is obvious there are efforts being made to renovate. Overall it was easy to overlook the lack of decor, while enjoying a thoroughly entertaining show.
Mostly goodNeeds better heating in winter, sound system needs fixed, and mens bathroom needs stall put in
Saw the Rocky Horror Picture Show with a live performance and it was fantastic. A great small venue to see a show.
Love the rocky horror picture show they hold here
Attended open mic poetry night. Didn’t perform yet myself, but great group energy in a cool space.
Love spending Monday and Thursday nights at this place. One of the best places to rent if you need a venue on the Eastside of Indy.
I love this theatre! Its just nostalgia overload. Irvington hosts a wide array of events. You can get a farmers market, live music, poetry and if youre lucky you can catch RHPS. Irvington is always affordable. Entry to most things excluding concert tix are around $0-10. Irvington theatres caters to artists and all are welcome. Definitely check them out during First Fridays.
Had fun at puppet show
Its got an amazing aesthetic. Its got kind of a grunge vibe, but a really comfy feel overall.
Love seeing Rocky Horror Picture Show here!
It was a neat place to visit really liked the old place!
This review is slightly dated, for the New Years Eve Heywood Banks performance at the Irving Theater December 2018. The Irving Theater has a very long and reworked history. The theater reminds me of a 1970s/80s old college campus alleyway music dive and you are amazed the place hasnt been demolished yet. Sort of what you might expect in old Broad Ripple in the days ago where you crammed yourself with others into a dark dingy room. So were standing outside in low 30-degree dark evening cold winter slightly breezy weather with a hint of possible rain in queue to enter. Theres few streetlights and were all trying to stay on the narrow sidewalk in front and building side. An example of the age of this theater is all of a sudden the patrons look up after standing for about 15 minutes to see and hear the frail building neon sign try to light up (a few of the letters) and as quick as it was on it burnt out (or old screw in style fuse breaker blew (?))! We had a good laugh. But realized once inside how dilapidated (yet historic) it is when noticing the ceiing rafters of multiple boards splintering and amazed not yet condemned. Another patron said a visit prior they could see the stars through the roof and on our night not, so a patched improvement? Well, the room was mostly dark and not that well lit before the Heywood Banks show and moreso during so you could make out some of the construction oddities but not all. We were fortunate to be seated immediately under the furnace vent, else wonder how cold a row or two away it might be. Largely rows of steel fold up chairs on an old theater floor, and some church pews in the back and a row along the sides. Did not go in search of the restroom(!) so no report on that. They had a beer/wine service (so another patron reported). Decorations included some type of decorated mannequin up on a shelf??? near the projector room wall opening that everyone was trying to determine what it represented.Nonetheless, the place has odd character and is one to remmber for tale telling that you survived. Heywood Banks also made a covert comment about the condition of the venue but hey we really enjoyed the show and by the time it was over didnt revisit the building condition as much. If the building inside (and out) were better lit we may have been more concerned honestly but, well leave it up to the inspectors to decide. All in all, a place to visit at least once because who knows the longevity of the place, maybe it is or should be a historical landmark should it continue to stand and be used.
A dump. Is it safe. Cant believe they can lawfully open their doors.
A good venue to host several types of productions, from poetry, to concerts, to a small play. A nice intimate setting.
Not the greatest place but it’s ok for being so old.
Musical venue, needs some upgrading, overall nice atmosphere and clientele
Super janky, the seats are unbearable, if you plan on being there for over an hour youll almost definitely have to stand and walk around at some point. theres also Basically no elevation difference from front to back and the cast was on the ground, so unless you were in the front three rows you couldnt see a thing. Super sketchy bathroom too, no lock and inside is a urinal that doesnt flush, a toilet with no stall walls so anybody can walk in on you, and a sink that cant keep a steady stream. Easily the worst theater Ive attended.
What a great historical place! This theater is a great place to see.
Transylvanian lip treatment is a blast
Looked under construction, poor lighting...good sound
An interesting little space with about eight parcans and a couple of follow spots. Saw Rocky Horror Picture Show here. Been a looong time since I had seen Rocky in a theater with a live cast.
I love this place
Absolutely the WORST theater experience weve ever had. First off, the show we attended was way oversold. The place was so crowded with people, hardly anyone could move and none of us could even see the stage over all of the heads in front of us. There was almost no seating for anyone in attendance... only people who bought tickets first and shelled out extra money got seats at the few tables on the floor. The standard tickets we purchased were NOT cheap, so we figured wed have a seat somewhere in the place, even if it was somewhere in the back of the theater. My husband has major medical problems with his back, so we asked the staff if he could use one of the extra chairs hanging on a rack in plain sight. The staff members said no and didnt give a reason. What a way to treat your paying customers! We later discovered that there were hard, uncomfortable benches along the wall for those who wanted to listen to the show but not see a single thing on stage.Speaking of which, the sound system in this theater is SO atrocious, we couldnt understand what anyone on stage was saying. It was VERY loud at times (so loud I had to dig out my earplugs, and this was a COMEDY show, not a music show), but so muffled that the performers words were impossible to make out. There was extremely loud and startling feedback coming from the microphone throughout the performance. To make it all worse, the audience was the worst-behaving audience I have ever witnessed. An incredible amount of people were so drunk they could have been charged with public intoxication. Many people were shouting obscenities and stupid jokes at the stage, making it even harder to understand what was going on with the performance. We were unfortunately stuck standing near the bar, where the staff members were yelling loud enough to block out what little we could hear from the stage. And while this is normally not something that bothers me, the theater itself has not been maintained well. Some of the walls looked like they were falling apart and were likely ridden with mold.I am shocked that this theater has received the decent ratings and reviews it has. We were so miserable, we left the theater after 15 minutes and went to Jockamos, where the friendly staff saved our night. I wanted to ask for a refund, but I had no hope of receiving one after witnessing the way the Irving Theaters staff treats its customers. We will absolutely NEVER go back to this venue, no matter who is performing.
Looking forward to the next First Friday there - the offerings are Amazing!!!
Went to see Upchurch. Event was suppose to be 8 to 11. Door opened at 7 he did not get on stage until 10. The place felt like a sauna. Their lack of Air Conditioning and no fans to circulate air. I would never go to concert their again had to leave early due to the extreme heat.
Absolutely Beautiful place and some pretty Amazing people! Definitely somewhere everyone needs to go check out!
Not the prettiest place Ive been but the music was great and the people were great
Cute neighborhood theater
Great venue!! Will for sure be back!
Needs some investment. Property in marginal condition. Rest rooms...go before you leave home.
Wish the place sold liquor & some food... then we talking, but I will still come check out more shows in near future... ((217))
Place is definitely old and need renovated badly. The event we went to see was good however.
Great venue for the monthly Rocky Horror Show viewing. The outfit that puts on the theatrics does a great job every time.
A very intimate setting.
Classic old movie theatre that is been stripped down to the bone but that is part of its charm. Would love to see more concerts there from smaller bands.
Great local music
This place was very old. But for the crowd that was there,I understand why it is what it is.
Cold in the building, bathroom smelled bad, & drink choices were lacking. The bands were outstanding!!
Love going to the song-writers circle each month. Good variety of original tunes.
I go for Rocky Horror and Transylvanian Lip Treatment is the best cast Ive ever seen.
Place is a pit. The entertainment was fantastic.
Kind of a s******* but the entertainment was good
Nice vintage theater. Had a fantastic time!
10 johnson ave coffee house..very nice atmosphere
Historically Beautiful and Awesome!
Smaller then hoped but surprisingly great acoustics, will be attending again.
It has a lot of good possibility !
Very diverse. A wide variety of shows, and Rocky Horror once a month.
A local theater in the historic Irvington area on the east side of Indianapolis on the historic national highway 40.
Had a great time at open mic night!
Great venue. Great atmosphere. All ages shows performed regularly.
It is a small venue but good for shows. Acoustics seem ok and a good atmospher. Staff are a bit rude at times.
Great venue. Great people. Great music.
Fantastic historical venue in the heart of haunted Irvington Indianapolis. You will love the energy of this place.
The home stage of Indianapolis leading Rocky Horror midnight shadow cast, Transylvanian Lip Treatment, The Irving Theater also hosts local bands, national acts, and farmers markets. My only gripe is that the restrooms need some work. Fix the toilets, Dale!
Loads of fun, saw the Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Great atmosphere. Sound system gets the job done but feels like it needs a sub for the size of the room.
Great open airy theatre. Many different shows and showings
