Need to call for reservations, purchase tickets on the website. Childrens section- with butterfly house. Herb garden area, Vegetable garden area, section with plants/trees mentioned in the Bible. Went on a Monday afternoon, not crowded. You wear a face mask inside buildings and Butterfly house. Has a gift shop. Due to fall season you will see differently dressed scarecrows along the walking trail. Check the website for events.
Had a great time viewing the scarecrows on the scarecrow trail. The garden seemed a little neglected, I guess because of Covid-19. Some of the flowers were struggling, hence the 4 star rating. I visited here about 10 years ago, but I couldnt remember what time frame it was. I do remember how beautiful it was and thats why I wanted to check it out again. Its still nice, just remember to hydrate and bring a hat. They change things kind of often, do it would be a great place to explore.
This is an excellent family-friendly place. The admission may seem kind of high at first, but when you see the sheer number of plants, structures, fountains and other things that require maintenance and upkeep its actually reasonable. The staff was friendly and all seemed to be enjoying their jobs. The butterfly exhibit and space garden were probably the highlights of this trip. The restrooms are clean and well-kept. The gift shop has many items to choose from and the ladies working there are super nice. Well have to visit again when we have another opportunity.
Just gorgeous! Just a tranquil place of beautiful flowers and scenery. We visited the butterfly gardens also. Nice but they had posted the compacity of 15 people limit for social distancing. But they clearly dont oversee that. At least 30 people in there, so it was hard to social distance and enjoy. I have visited many butterfly gardens and while this was nice, the number of butterflies was not enough.
Very beautiful and a lot of fun to walk around. The Butterfly Hall is truly the gem of the gardens, but everything is a must see. Beautiful wooded areas with flowers along the paths, pretty water installations, darling miniature train station, fun little herb garden where touching and smelling everything was encouraged. The only thing that held this place back for me was the map! Im not even sure the map provided is for this garden. I had a specific area I really wanted to see, but I had no idea where it was and Im not sure I ever found it.It put a little damper on my trip, but everything I did see was so nice, I would absolutely return (hopefully in Spring next time!) 9/10, would recommend!
Huntsville Botanical Gardens is a great place to spend the morning or afternoon. The backside of the gardens was my familys favorite. We really enjoyed the aquatic gardens. There is plenty of shade and the water features are relaxing to listen to. The coy were also entertaining. The butterfly pavilion is nice. There is a stream that runs through it. My kids were entertained by the turtles. It was hot when we visited. The gardens are big so bring water and sunscreen. Both are available in the gifts hope but i would bring my own. Will visit again.
We walked the galaxy of lights this year and had a really good time. I loved all the displays, but parking was a nightmare, as there were hundreds of people there. It was really fun though and a great way to get some exercise and get into the holiday spirit.
Lovely gardens. Lots to look at and do. Plenty for the kids to explore and play on. Not all paths are paved which meant my wheelchair using son couldnt easily access all areas. Ill never understand why disabled users pay the same price as able bodied when they cant access everything like everyone else. For a park this size I was shocked they didnt have a large indoor greenhouse. We always enjoy visiting botanical gardens and love the indoor gardens the best.
Came here last year for the lantern festival. It was nice to see all the different lanterns & kung fu shows, food and drink vendors were there. Wish the ticket wasnt too expensive (almost $30)
Nice place with wide walking roads but I liked the smaller paths winding thru the plants. The model train village is a joy to watch.
A beautiful place for a morning walk, picnic, or a quiet place to read your book. I really enjoyed the various water features throughout and learned a lot in the herb and vegetable garden. I would recommend a visit for kids and adults if you are in the area.
Really great way to just get out and enjoy some of what Huntsville has to offer, decided to check this out as were visiting from New Jersey. You can walk the garden and see everything in less than 2 hours. Theres only some spots with shade so bring a cap and/or sunscreen for you and your little ones.
A great relaxing evening. Lighting was good and added to the atmosphere. Even had an occasional hot cocoa stand
I went for the Galaxy of Lights and while it’s not the most up to date and exciting of light displays, it’s traditional and classic which I love. Definitely go in November to do the walking tour and then go back and drive through as well!
I have wanted to visit for forever. I picked the wrong time of the year to do so.I am leaving a bad review because the receptionist/cashier made it seem as if it was still colorful and beautiful. We paid 32 bucks to see a bunch of dead flowers. We didnt even stay a whole 20 minutes. On our way out I heard the cashier telling a group of 5 or 6 how beautiful it was outside and they will see the city of lights upon entering, it was 11:40 am or 12 noon. I am leaving a review also because I am from Ar and I would have rather been warn than experience the element of surprise
I loved it and it was amazing and I wish in some areas the lights were off but it was still great. God bless to you all and your hard work
A large garden with lots of flowers for you to see and enjoy. I went in the summer and it was a tad warm so I think I would have enjoyed it more in the spring. Plenty of walking space so be prepared to walk. Well worth the cost. Easy to find and plenty of parking.
We went last night to view the Christmas lights. It was amazing! The trail took us a little over an hour and the light displays were gorgeous! Would recommend to anyone.
It was a great family outing. There were beautiful light displays, bubbles, etc. It has a nice walking trail throughout the displays, that you dont realize you have walked over 2 miles. AWESOME!!
Excellent place to see and I usually do not like botanical gardens.
We went to the Galaxy of Lights walk thru. The renovations are stunning. The lights were beautiful.
The Galaxy of Lights was good...the negative was that the $3 hot chocolate wasnt hot and half full, I know it goes to a good cause but still couldve at least been hot.
Beautiful, fascinating, unexpected, wonderful! Wear comfy shoes and bring a water bottle. The Butterfly House is gorgeous. The Childrens Garden is full of fun. There are unexpected finds down hidden paths everywhere. ️
Well, I was there way to late in the year. To see the real gardens. However what i was able to see was great.
*Galaxy of Light*-first time visitThis is a walk at your own pace, on a paved path through some Christmas themed and some non Christmas themed light displays. It took an hour at a near constant strolling pace to complete. The displays were small and kind of boring to me. I expected more of a big display of lights. It was more of someone, or some business did about a 10x10 and some larger light scenes and they were displayed along the path. Not much of a Christmas feel to me. Some scenes were Christmas, some from childrens books or songs. Jack jumping over a candle stick, a football scene, fishing, some dinosaurs. If there was like a slow moving train or trolley to ride through the lights, would be better. I would have paid for that. I checked it off the list, I highly doubt itll be on my future lists. Maybe my expectations were just wrong..
The Huntsville Botanical Gardens are a supremely beautiful space.Offering lush hedges, nature paths, stunning ponds, trees draped in Spanish moss, gorgeous native plants, groomed fields and classic Southern vibes - it is an excellent choice for anyone looks for a wedding venue or afternoon spent in serenity.Absolutely spectacular views and atmosphere. The family and I made our first visit to the Huntsville Botanical Garden. It was a great Saturday to get outside and enjoy the beautiful Alabama summer. We took so many photos of all the flowers, butterflies, and turtles. They also have a great little restaurant and cute giftshop.
Whole family goes 2 Galaxy of Lights every year. This year there 19 of us. Amazing, beautifully done. Great-grandkids & I especially liked bubble machines.
This is a beautiful place to walk around. I will say, for a “garden”, there were very few things blooming in June. They did have a very nice butterfly house and a couple cool structures, like in the kids area and a pond area. Other than that, nothing out of the ordinary or very unique or exciting. I think this place could use more diversity and better signage. It’s mostly a really clean walking place and woods. There’s not much different here than feeling like you are walking in a wealthy persons super nice yard.
Wonderful walkways! Plenty of places to sit peacefully and watch birds or butterflies.
Always a lovely visit to the Huntsville Botanical Gardens. The arrangements are always beautiful and its great to see the changes to the plantings through the seasons.
Lots of ground to cover and the butterfly house is beautiful. My nephew loved it
I love this place but wont be back while there is a pandemic. Was looking for a safe outdoor socially distant activity. However, the vast majority of patrons did not comply with the mask requirement and there was no enforcement. There were so many people we kept having to violate the 6ft rule as we passed on the paths. The lady that scanned our tickets had her mask so low under her nose we could almost see her upper lip! Not as safe as we hoped.
Took my family to the Galaxy of lights display. We went the day after thanksgiving.we waited in line for about an hour. It was $25 per car. We thought it was worth the wait. If you are going to be in the Huntsville area around Thanksgiving or Christmas I would recommend doing this with your family.
Beautiful and well-maintained. We didnt plan enough time and quickly learned 2 hours wasnt enough. There is so much to see you could never get through it all in a day. Wide variety of trees, flowers, and plants. We especially loved seeing all the herbs in the herb garden, and plan to go back again to see more of what we didnt get to in our first visit.
Went here as a last minute date idea and it was great! we havent been here since we were kids and to come back after 12+ years was awesome. the staff even told us about a secret carnivorous plant garden that wasnt on the map! Great place to visit if youre in the Huntsville area!
When I visit family and friends in Huntsville, I always enjoy a trip to the large gardens. They are always improving, always developing new and interesting exhibits. They also have a large event hall and outdoor amphitheater. The restaurant chefs are talented. The gift shop has very lovely items. There are art exhibits upstairs and down. The butterfly exhibit is the largest of its kind that I have seen at a botanical garden, and has two levels and a waterfall with a stream winding through the area. There are always additions for every season, including a wonderful Christmas lights display. There multiple lakes and ponds. The childrens areas are several and delightful. There are golf carts and options for people with disabilities. I wish I could give more stars!!
This is a beautiful place to go for a walk and enjoy the variety of plants, koi fish, turtles, and other wild life. They have a pirate theme playground for kids. We had a wonderful time there. Pack food and picnic in a shade.
It is a great place to visit with Family and Friends!
We did a walk-thru of Galaxy of Lights, a yearly tradition. If you get a chance to go, do it! Driving thru is also fun, but we usually have a group larger than what will fit in a vehicle.
It was really nice and well kept. There were some beautiful flowers but I’m sure it’d be much prettier during the Spring when they’re all blooming. We also got really lucky because we had our dog on our trip and they had a month special where you could bring your dog on the marked trails. Butterflies weren’t out yet either but it was sooo lovely.
The Chinese Lantern Festival at the Huntsville Botanical Gardens today was exceptionally well done! My daughter (14yo) and I loved the beautiful animals lining the paths throughout the park and spent a little over an hour taking photographs and enjoying the lovely flowers and water features.
So much plants! I loved the scarecrows for Halloween. There even was one of Geogre Washington Carver, and a dancing penut. I hope this is helpful. ( I dont know if the scarecrows were for Halloween, or just to keep crows away from the plants. Again, SO MANY PLANTS!! ️️️
This is a very beautiful place. Definitely will visit during each of the seasons.
Enjoyed walking through the garden seeing the beautiful Christmas lights. Will visit again!! Columbia Tennessee
Great animated Christmas light drive-through experience with a fun local Rocket City twist. It was more than worth the $20 for our car. It took about an hour driving at slow speeds to take it all in but both adults and kids were never bored. Well visit again to see the gardens in the Spring.
Lovely place. Unfortunately we got rained out, so we didnt get to spend as much time there as we would have liked. But the gardens were so relaxing, the childrens area was very nicely designed, and the staff was super friendly.
Always love the botanical gardens! The splash area is open, but the hammocks are gone and the gem mining station is closed. There are TONS of butterflies. We had fun!
Lovely place. I ran into a discriminatory corporate wall while getting a membership here. 2 adults $85. 2 people but one is underage, $100 for the family membership that you MUST name 2 adults in the same household to get. So, I was asked to name another adult that maybe might come with us even if they dont live with us (against their own policies). I dont mind the $15, but I mind being asked to name another adult just because I have a child.
Ive been many times, many seasons and always found it to be a relaxing experience. Peace through beauty. I would like to recommend that after the quarantine is over that they would consider having a membership promotion with discount prices. The gardens are incredible but not everyone can afford the entry fee. I realize they do have a business to run, but allowing people to enjoy and learn about the gardens would be a community service. Thank you. I look forward to seeing them again. Tulips will be gone probably by the time we can get out. 1 if my favorites. S
Nice place, came to the light show
It was wonderful and its improved since last year and all the light really beautiful and and the music
I love going here to relax. Great trails, awesome butterfly house, and usually pretty cool events. The membership deal is also wonderful. They also sell local honey from their little bee hive in the gift shop!
Galaxy of lights is one of our favorite family traditions at Christmas time. They were so lovely. We enjoyed it so very much.
Top tier botanical garden. Several garden rooms, i.e. a water garden, children’s storybook garden, garden RR, etc. Ideal size for an afternoon stroll around beautifully landscaped grounds. The herb garden is quite educational, take the time to read about the different herbs and their traditional uses. Amazingly, this place is staffed by a few thousand volunteers. Also has a good gift shop.
Tremendous garden with a great visitor center. The butterfly house is especially nice (in season).
First time at the Botanical Garden. It was an incredible and inspiring place to visit and will visit again.
An amazing adventure, if youre nearby dont miss it!
Great place! SO much to see and do! Its beautiful here. And the kids garden area was fantastic! 10/10 will come again.
Cant go wrong with this place if youre in town for a few days and need something to do. My favorites include the water garden, the butterfly house, and the large model train setup. Wish I had come during the evening so I could see the lamps when they were lit up all over the place. The Christmas light show is also cool to drive through. Look forward to coming again in the future.
Fun seasonal activity. Got to walk Galaxy of Lights with my grandkids.
Lovely gift store. Not only a gift shop for the venue but also a boutique with books, soaps, candles, lotion, and seasonal home decor. Also, a great selection of trendy clothing for women, and interesting and unique fine and fashion jewelry. Staff was friendly and helpful.
One of my favorite places in Huntsville! Great for landscaping ideas or just a place to relax!
The botanical garden is great! There are many different walking trails available, picnic tables, gazebos, and the Chinese Lantern Festival displays are beautiful during the day as well. The childrens garden has a large grassy area perfect for laying out blankets for a picnic lunch. There are different, themed sections to keep your kids interested. There is only one way in or out, so you can feel comfortable letting even your youngest toddler take a break from the stroller. You may want to bring a swimsuit for your child, though, because there are two different water activities they can play with as well as a sandbox.
Galaxy of Lights. Very nice, relaxing walk in the cool, crisp fall air.
My family really loves the gardens! There is always something happening and the classes are great.
Such a cool experience! Great place to go as a family. There was an area specifically for kids and lots of different activities to do. The gardens were absolutely beautiful and somewhere that I would recommend to anyone in the area. It was not too expensive and the woman at the desk was very sweet. Very glad I went here while in Alabama.
I loved this place. Growing up I first learned to drive a tractor exactly like the Ford Eight End they have on display. Getting on that tractor brought back so many memories of when I was 12 & 13 yrs old. It was painted just like this one. All the levers and switches knobs and brake pedals... everything identically like ours. Great day!
Nice place, alot of walking. Bring water, pack a lunch. Places to picnic
The turtles and butterfly house were awesome to chill out with. My kids especially loved the environment.
Beautiful, just beautiful. All of the trails are well cared for, the flowers are lovely, and the employees are splendid and knowledgeable. The Memphis botanic garden could learn a thing or two from Huntsville.
Absolutely gorgeous! All of the displays were breathtaking. Will be getting a membership soon so that I can visit often.
Very awesome place to visit. You can tell they put there heart and soul into the gardens here. Definitely a great destination whether your flying solo or with the family. They have plenty of area on the grounds to stop and have a picnic. They also offer military and student discount. If Im ever in the area again Ill definitely be making a return visit.
Beautiful, spacious and enticing, with a very nice butterfly enclosure!Great for an all day trip or just to go relax in nature for a quick refresh
It is a walking self your, approximately one mile with side trails. Some gardens are in the shade, there are plenty water features big and small. The collection of flowers and plants are amazing, but choose the time of year you go.
Nice gardens and well kept. Dont miss the butterfly exhibit!
I love my membership...well worth the money. I like to visit one or two parts of the garden each time I go. Great place to bring out of town guests or children!
Galaxy of lights was super this year! Always a warm and welcoming staff.
Loved it, beautiful nice place to spend some quiet time
This is a beautiful botanical garden and the cafe had the most delicious cobb salad Ive ever had. We went during the Chinese Lantern Festival and it was absolutely beautiful.
Huntsville Botanical Gardens is beautiful and the new buildings are fantastic. We started with lunch on the patio, and food was great at reasonable prices. Our walking tour began and the day was gorgeous. We were thrilled with the beauty and enjoyed the afternoon. Near the end we toured the butterfly house, and we enjoyed the afternoon. Travelers should consider a reciprocal membership to other gardens across the country. We will return again.
Awesome venue for a wedding. Worked in the back scene, everyone was happy happy happy.
Loved the Scarecrow Trail, the train, the herb garden, all of it! Great family activity!
This place is absolutely beautiful, and has events going on all the time. We are members there, and it is well worth it!
Walking through the garden is a nice way to see the lights.
Absolutely beautiful. If you get the time and are in the area this is a must stop. The gardens are beautiful and peaceful there lots of things for children to do its just a great day trip.
Great place to spend an afternoon
The botanical garden is absolutely beautiful. It has been a while since I’ve been back, about August of ‘18, but personally it was definitely a pretty place. Really really big, so if you’re interested in seeing everything there, I personally recommend being prepared to walk a significant amount. All in all, a beautiful place. They have something cool about their butterfly exhibit, I think it’s like the largest open air butterfly exhibit in the country?? Something like that. Anyway, cool place to have fun at!
This hidden gem is a wonderful place to step away from the chaos of So Cal. A Cafe is onsite for refreshments and a relaxing train ride for the kids and adults makes it quite the adventure. Be sure to wear closed toed shoes and bring sunscreen it can get hot.
Beautiful. They have plans to expand. But what they have is great. Master garden donates their produce and there are classes to learn more about gardening. Awesome herb garden. There was also a dinosaur exhibit that was very popular with children, panning for gemstones, playgrounds and a wood fort. Great place to enjoy for the whole family.
Beautiful gardens and well maintained. They have different gardens for all interests, such as an herb garden, daylilies, childrens garden, butterfly pavilion, as well as areas for just relaxing in the garden.
We went to the Galaxy of Lights with the little ones and though Ive been a few times there was sheer excitement on their faces as the lights twinkled, moved and danced.
Great place for an outing. More than just flowers there. I enjoyed it and Im an older guy. Wildlife there and also a butterfly house.
A beautiful experience in these trying times
Did my sisters wedding here. Absolutely loved the setting and the hall!
Me and my husband went here for the Chinese lantern festival 9 months ago. It was beautiful. This was our first trip there. We plan on going back during the day time to look at the flowers and their koi pond.
Definitely the best Botanical Garden I’ve ever been too. Especially in the state of Alabama. Everything is so clean, looks new, and family friendly. The had the scarecrow out for the fall!
Beautiful experience!! A wonderful diverse crowd from babies to older. Everyone enjoying another extraordinary experience in our city Huntsville!!
Great experience!! Purchase admission tickets (pre-register) before going there. Butterfly house is great. Beautiful grounds with many identified plants. Well be going back!!!
The staff and volunteers were super friendly and welcoming. The gardens were beautiful and very well maintained. Definitely want to visit again!
