Plenty of well kept grounds to explore with shade and resting stops. Living history buildings are very nicely displayed. Ducks, geese, chickens, squirrels and turtles populate the park and entertain. Picnic tables and area available. Perfect for an outing without worrying about social distancing.
The grounds were spectacular. The museum was so impressive and so informative about Sam Houston. We were so impressed with the grounds that we returned the following week to take senior pictures.
Great historical place to visit & they have a blacksmith shop with a real blacksmith.
Really great place to visit for a quick history of Sam Houston. The museum is laid out well and has plenty of historic things to see.We frequent the, what we call, “duck pony” next door. Always shady and cool even during the summer. The surrounding houses in the park are full of history and if you time it right they have weaving, pottery, blacksmith, and other demonstrations. This place is definitely worth a visit if you are in town.
This place is an amazing opportunity for your children and for yourself to experience some of the wonders of the past. The people are extremely kind. They offer to answer any bizarre questions that you may come up with. From the blacksmith to the lace maker, this is a trip that is both factual and extremely fun.Adults- $5.00Children(6-18)-$3.00Children (under 6)- FREEI encourage everyone to arrange their schedules to allow time to experience this wonderful family activity.
Very cool. Well kept. Had a nice picnic.
This place was absolutely beautiful. Full of gorgeous foliage and amazing wildlife. The history of the place was awesome and I could have spent the whole day there just enjoying the scenery.
Created for the TX centennial the Sam Houston Memorial Museum is a beautiful campus dedicated to preserving the memory of Sam Houston. There is a collection of 19th century buildings, including two former residences of Houston. Also on the property is the rotunda which houses many historical items belonging to Sam Houston. Bring some money for admission and the gift shop to enjoy a wonderful day in Huntsville. Kids will like the ducks, chickens, and turtles. Tree enthusiasts will appreciate the canopy.
This is a wonderful place for families and kids. Great shoot to learn about history too. The pond and ducks are wonderful. Must see and do in Huntsville Texas!!!
A must see for any Texas History fan! Loaded with relics from Sam Houstons time and from the events of the forming of the Republic of Texas! A must go to place for a History Road Trip!Highly Recommend & get out of the house and give them a visit!
Reasonable admission fee, knowledgeable and friendly staff, and clean restrooms. The outside area with animals wasnt the reason we drove in, but it was a really enjoyable. Youre allowed to feed the ducks, chickens, and turtles. The steam boat house was really neat as well.
Ok to visit if you are driving on the way
Great place for Texas history.
Vary nice.
A must visit for every Texan. You cant know where youre going until you know where youve been.
Very peaceful. Fun feeding all the different animals.
Beautiful grounds, lovely museum of the life of a true American/ Texan patriot! Just remember to take cash, because the museum doesnt accept debit/credit cards.
Beautiful grounds with great historical structures.
The museum is okay, but definitely check out the buildings set up set up to look at how homes around here used to look inside. It is an interesting expiriance.
This is a nice little place to visit, near downtown, when you need to feed your soul with nature. The small lake is home to varied breeds of ducks and lots of turtles. Chickens and roosters run through the park.I noticed that they added a box with laminated info sheets on the parks trees. Visitors are able to borrow which is kinda neat. There are also historical homes and buildings which are interesting to view. A few have automated information available. The lake is kinda stinky which is unpleasant when the wind hits it just right.
Outstanding! Do not miss!
Beautiful place to photograph, so much history!!
Pretty fascinating to see the log cabin the President of the Republic of Texas lived in! Really highlights the incredible progress of the last century.
Very beautiful place and historical
Very nice little park to walk around. There were a lot of fun ducks and chickens. Didnt get to see any of the museum because it was closed for the day, but the grounds and outbuildings were very cool.
Nice place to visit, when in the area
There were so many exhibits that we didnt have time to view/read them all. We will return! The staff were few but very nice and informative.
Well worth the visit. Photo of McPhail Madstone
My family and I were enjoying the folk festival. It was very educational!
Had a good time exploring on Fathers Day. Nice adventure of learning for those of us Texans who werent raised here originally.
This is a must if youre out and about with the family. Kids enjoy the outdoors with the old 1800 homes
Love, love, love the museum. Nice and courteous staff. Very knowledgeable
The San Houston Museum is so beautiful and cohesive as a museum. Most locals think it is literally just a park. There are three historical building of Sam Houston and Texas. The staff get in character and dress in period clothes of 1860. Great for the whole family. I had my wedding here
Awesome!
I go every week with my son and wife to feed the ducks and chickens corn. Fun place to take a 2 year old who happens to have an obsession with ducks.
Gorgeous! Its like you really get to step back in time.
So much fun! Beautiful place and very educational! My son loved the chickens and ducks! Fantastic!
Excellent customer service, very cleaned and maintained, the atmosphere is awesome, close to other historic sights and museums in Huntsville.
Very nice and informative presentation of Sam Houstons life set in a beautiful facility and a good amount of artifacts. I do find the claim that the Battle of San Jacinto was the most decisive battle in military history somewhat dubious.
Great place to visit, and learn about the way they lived, woth pay a visit.
The duck pond area is great for taking pictures.
A small but focused historical museum. If you like Texas history, you will enjoy this museum. It tells Sam Houstons life story and about 1/3 of the museum is dedicated to the Texas Revolution. If you take your time and read most of the exhibits, youll probably complete it in 30-45 minutes. The volunteers are very friendly and knowledgeable. They have plenty of stories and artifacts for kids to pick up and examine, like musket balls and old playing cards.Dont forget to go downstairs and see the diorama of the battle at the Alamo. Then enjoy the park the museum sits in.
Yes I visited side of Sam Houston Memorial Museum 3 weeks ago I went there one time before to be able to see someone using a pottery wheel and this time I was there to see a blacksmithing exhibition however the man had cancelled out and Kasem advertise it didnt realize that the man had cancelled out on Museum phone number toll-free but I still had a great time and I traveled around to see and look for places that werent accessible so my notebook is getting bigger and bigger and bigger and pretty soon hopefully I can get with the engineers and we can see some of these things taken care of for example there is a telephone pole in the middle of a sidewalk right in front of the West plant the power plant for University of Houston I didnt realize it was that was Abby on Sam Houston cuz Ive never been there before never been to Cent Sam Houston Museum or Morrell Museum whatever its called but anyway so this Hoveround been taking me everywhere I got it February 8th and Im sick of the time I had a cold or a head cold so I wasnt able to get out and about for about 2 weeks but ever since then people cant find me at home anyway I hope youve enjoyed my review the Fort Sam Museum Memorial Museum is full of fine things that happen and theres no charge whatsoever ever another place you might want to go is the art museum on 11th Street almost to Arbys was actually across the street from Arbys. Activities there are also free and then of course a musician has a gravesite I believe its off of Avenue I between 10th and 11th anyway so there enjoy yourself Huntsville has a lot to offer
Its gorgeous but I wish people would be civilized humans instead of animals and throw away their trash instead of tossing it on the floor. Theres trash cans all over the premises! Like seriously, did their mother never teach them how to pick up after themselves.
Great place to visit some of our Texas History
Full of Texas history. See all the different sites. At the statue and down the road in town.
Great place to visit with the family

Beautiful grounds, lovely museum of the life of a true American/ Texan patriot! Just remember to take cash, because the museum doesnt accept debit/credit cards.

This literally might be my favorite museum ever. Its so truly breath takingly beautiful, and you get to learn so much!
I haven’t been to the actual museum but I’ve been to the duck pond a gazillion times. Bring apple pieces or crackers. The ducks and roosters love the stuff. Watch out for the goose though, he’s a little grouchy sometimes.
Awesome place to visit! Had a blast with my babies!

Fun family experience not far
Really cool
The cottages are fun. The museum is mediocre.
30th Annual Folklife Festival - Enjoyed a fun variety of live entertainment and cultural activities for every family member. The Sam Houston Memorial Museum’s fifteen-acre grounds was transformed from a peaceful setting into a bustling frontier settlement where you can watch historical reenactments, listen to music, shop for crafts, wares, and food, or simply stroll the same land where Sam and Margaret Houston lived and where their children played.
Buildings Sam Houston lived and worked in.
