John Paul is the man! Such an amazing instructor and an incredibly fun, happy, nice guy. This is such an awesome place to check out if youre in the area. My whole family went for a canoe wave riding lesson, which was super fun. Instructors were super friendly and very relaxed with everything. The whole experience was completely stress free, which is always what I look for in a place like this. My wife and I decided to jump onto our other family members surf lesson and they were excited to have us. My wife had never surfed before and she was standing and riding the waves in no time. They have a photographer on the beach which got us some awesome shots of both lessons. Highly recommended and John Paul was the best!!

My hubby and I enjoyed our very first surfing lesson with Todd so much that we booked our second lesson the next day right after! With free coupon and booking early time (7am), we got a great deal paying group lesson price while we two were the only students. The lady at the office and the photographer were also super friendly which made our experience completely enjoyable. Strongly recommend to anyone who wants to tryout the must-do activity in Hawaii.

Mikey is the greatest!!! We were standing up on our boards riding waves almost immediately thanks to his clear and direct communication! Felt safe in the water. Left feeling accomplished (and exhausted) & with some great photos and videos, too!

Without question, the highlight of our trip to Honolulu! We booked a beginner surf lesson last minute after looking at a few different options. Young (sp?) was an amazing instructor - patient, knowledgeable, and super chill. He took us through each step and had us confident to try surfing as soon as we got in the water. We both rode our first waves by the end of the lesson! Were super grateful for the experience and will definitely book another session when we are back. If you are debating trying it, go for it - you wont regret it!

I’ve been renting a board from Aaron and the Star Beachboys crew every day and they are absolutely wonderful. They go the extra mile, storing your stuff while you’re surfing. This place is closed, but doesn’t say so anywhere online or on their answering machine and they’re still taking reservations online. They may be good at the surf stuff, but not at communicating.

I am extremely happy I choose Star Beachboys for my first ever surfing lesson. Our instructor Young was very friendly and patient. He did a great job explaining the basics and giving us pointers throughout the lesson. I wasn’t sure I’d be able to surf after one lesson but with Young’s help I got the hang of it right away. Overall wonderful experience and excellent prices, especially compared to other surf schools on the beach. Thank you Young!

Loved everything of this experience. Todd was an amazing instructor. Funny, hands on, and really cared. The price is one of the lowest we found and we were more than happy to tip. They also have a photographer that takes amazing pictures and videos. He sent everything to our phones at a great price. Would hands down recommend them to my friends. Best first surf lesson ever! Thank you so much Todd! We got a private surf lesson last minute. Todd the instructor was amazing and we had so much fun! He explained everything very quickly and we paid about 50$ per person for one hour. It was totally enough, thought my arms were getting tired after a while! I totally can recommend this company and would book a surf lesson again!

Awesome spot to rent a board. 10$ for 2 hr, 20$ for half day (5 hr) - No hassle, was in and out in 5 min! Compare that to “on the beach” rentals. They also let me switch my board during the rental. Will rent again if I’m in Waikiki again!!

Loved that the 2 instructors took my daughter and I out for a dual lesson. We were both lifeguards in our teens and I can tell you this was tougher than a regular in-service training. Currents were strong today so maybe that was why, or maybe were just both out of shape. The only drawback is that you cant take your bags with you to the beach, and youre encouraged to walk the block to the beach with no shoes on. I took a chance bringing my sandals because I didnt want to walk in hot asphalt. We had a dry run on land, going through the various positions and techniques for keeping the board stable. Then we hit the waves!I was definitely tired afterwards, and my toes had a bit of abrasion from contact with the board.Afterwards, we walked back to the store, and purchased the pics for us to look back at and laugh.Keep a few bills for the well deserved tips.

After a couple days on the island and tackling multiple tics on my O’ahu to-do list, I decided to take a day “off” and head to the beach. A friend had made me promise if I had any free time I’d try surfing, so I did. That evening I canceled all the other plans I had for the rest of my trip and surfed until I had to leave for the airport.If you spend any time on O’ahu, and don’t go surfing with Karen at Star Beachboys Waikiki, you’ve missed out on the most rad experience there is on the island. Trust me, I tried them all! Not only is Karen knowledgeable, she’s FUN; the kind of person you could hang out with and just enjoy. Better yet, she’s a local, not just someone who breezed into town to make a couple dollars. She’s passionate about surfing and teaching. She’ll have you up on a board and craving more in no-time. The only thing I must warn against: you won’t want to leave Waikiki!

This was the first time surfing for my husband and me and it was great! Karen did a great job with instructions before entering the water and tips and reminders while we were in the water! We were both able to catch some waves by the end of the lesson. Tip: book your lesson for early in the morning if you can(we did 8AM) the water won’t be as crowded and it will be much easier. Halfway through our lesson the water was filling with people and it was harder to get up without worrying about running into other people.

We had the best experience we could ever have imagined with Star Beachboys! Not only was our son’s instructor, Tony, fabulous but so was the photographer! Everyone at Star Beachboys went well out of their way to spoil us and we can’t thank them enough for everything they did for us!

Theyre rude and unprofessional. Definitely dont go with them if its your first time surfing. We had to stop halfway through since the instructor was a jerk and kept shouting and calling us names. The instructors have anger management issues and zero patience for beginners.

Im a big guy and I never thought that I could surf because of that, but they pulled out the biggest board and got me surfing in under an hour! The instructor was very supportive and helpful.

The best, most experienced instructors on the beach with good prices. Oka has helped me surf 3 different times over 20 years and each time is better than he last! He knows how to set you up so you can catch the waves and teaches you how to do it yourself. Look for the Star Beachboys photographer under his yellow umbrella near the break wall since the beach concession is no longer there.

The instructor was extremely rude and impatient. He was shouting constantly at us. The experience was so bad that we left half way through. Once we got out, another employee tried to pacify us and promised a refund after two days and gave a number to contact her on. As we were trying to make sure we could reach her on that number, she too started to shout and made quite a scene.The experience was so horrible that we were reluctant to surf again but then ended up having a great experience with North shore surf girls a few days after. They were super organized and professional.

I Highly recommend Going to Star Beach Boys if you want take a Surf Lesson. We had a Group lesson with Velina V . We had the time of our Lives!! It was the Highlight of our whole trip. We are definitely coming back and telling all our friends.FYI...Do NOT go to DIVE Oahu!! The prices are to high and the Instructors dont know what they are doing.

I had a quick trip to hawaii, so I called in the day of (last minute) for a surf lesson. Staffs were all so sweet and my instructor was super awesome! I could surf right away after having 1-hour lesson with him. Recommended! :)

Just came back from staying at the Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel and the concierge recommended Star Beach Boys and am grateful they did. My wife is a beginner (and very nervous) and the instructors very patient and understanding. Thanks for providing her with a great beginners surfing lesson!

I highly recommend Star Beachboys for surfing lessons. Their instructors are lade back and kind and still very professional. Im not super athletic at all, but was still able to stand up and surf very fast with good introduction. At least one private lesson is definitely wort the money, sort of fast track to learn how to surf, when you get teachers full attention.

We were 3 young people completely new to surfing. We met Okalani, our surf instructor. He is awesome!! First, he taught us the basic gestures and postures on the beach and then helped us to stand up on the board. We all were able to take waves and to stand up on our own. I can say it is all due to the great, precise explanations we had from Oka. He is a very nice person who made us enjoy our experience in Hawaii ++++. Lots of aloha!!

The best instructors in the area! Our instructor was extremely helpful and showed us everything we needed to know to ride 4-5 waves even though it was our first time surfing. Also pulled us when we were too tired to paddle, couldn’t ask for better service.

First visit to Waikiki on a solo trip. I was intrigued at the beautiful waves of Waikiki. Dared myself to try surfing. No surf experience at all. Booked with Star Beachboys with Dave P. my very first surf instructor. He was extremely patient, caring and was able to make me stand on a 9 foot surfboard with my very first wave at Waikiki beach. I had a great time. I called to ask about getting an impromptu lesson in a group. They have me a time, I showed up and we went out. I felt the experience was worth every penny, but also that this company was just trying to get me hangin ten, without nickel and diming me.

Velina is one of the Best Surfing Instructors. My kids had Past Surfing with her. It was there first time! The photos they took were soooo good too! I would recommended them to all my friends.

Dave Panoke was fantastic! As first time surfers (group of 4) we couldnt have asked for better service. Not only was he immensely helpful and encouraging (stayed with us in the water for over an hour individually assisting us and making sure we caught several good waves) but he is also loads of fun. Additionally, the price of the lessons was far better than any other place we saw around Waikiki and we received much more one on one instruction than was offered elsewhere. Overall it was a great time with a great instructor! Highly recommend lessons with Dave.

My gf and I received a semi-private lesson from JP while on vacation. I dont think the lesson couldve gone any better. It was a busy day with lots of people in the water and we were kept safe. We both were able to successfully get up on the board given such great instruction and assistance. I was pleasantly surprised. They even take really nice professional grade photos so you can look back on the fond memories and have proof! We were missing some photos from the CD we purchased, but I was able to contact them on Facebook and received an incredibly prompt response and was sent the remaining photos the same day. If you want to learn how to surf from people who care, go with them!

The umbrellas they provide arent too bad but the guy who runs it is the rudest businessman I have ever encountered. I guess because there isnt a great deal of competition on this part of the beach he can afford to be.

My fiancee and I have always dreamed of surfing - and Star Beach boys came at the recommendation of an Airbnb review of where we ended up staying. Needless to say, the staff was amazing, friendly, and extremely helpful. Our instructor (Lala) was so amazing, and had us surfing in literal minutes - it was so fun in fact we continued renting boards for the rest of the trip!Not to mention, a 2 hour rental for $10 is great! The guys right down the road offer $20 for a full day - but especially as a new surfer I challenge you to last the full two hours without wanting to die the next morning. This was by far the most fun for your buck we had our whole trip.

I had my first surfing lesson ever with Oka. He is a lifelong surfer who is clearly an expert. The lesson started on the beach where I learned the basics. Then we hit the water. Oka was giving me tips the whole time and tried his best to teach me! He even stayed out with me a little longer than our set time in the hopes that I would get a good wave. Surfing is hard but I hope to try again in the future (hopefully Im not a lost cause). Thanks for a great first lesson!!!

Went to Waikiki Beach for surf lessons and Dive oahu was to expensive. I Googled Surf lessons and found Star Beach boys. The were cheaper and there was actual Beach boys working.

My kids had a ball improving their fledgling surfing skills. Staff was helpful and made sure they had fun.

Not a friendly staff, very short and uninterested. They used to have kamaina but I guess they no longer do? Id recommend using a different rental company for surfing, not a great experience and inconsistent pricing.

I used a rental board Oct. 2017. Very friendly staff. But The quality of the board was pretty bad and the price was high. I recommend you should use a rental shop where is not on beach but in town.

I would give it 1 star but opt for 2 because the waves here are easy to get to. And very consistant every day.. (as for waikiki beach this is everywhere). Really shabby equipment. Split board, no skeg on first one, no surface grip on second, sharp tie wrap on paddle. And the attendant let my stuff sit in a puddle of rain water.

I rented boards from here the first time I learned to surf in Hawaii. These guys were pure aloha. The first board I ever surfed! Even if I didnt rent from them on future trips b/c I had a board already they always showed aloha. I didnt have a towel and the sun was gone with lots of wind. I was shivering and one of the beach boys lent me his towel without me saying a word. Another visit, I busted my rotator cuff and I refused to look at the ocean b/c I was so upset I couldnt surf. A group of friendly beach boys who werent working that day but having fun on the beach chatted w/ me and played ukulele. 3 gorgeous wahines were with their group and they showed me so much kindness and friendship during my trip, I could never forget it. They invited us to their wkd bbq and I had so much fun. This is what Hawaii is about.I will miss the Star Beachboys and my heart went heavy when I didnt see their bright yellow tent up.Thank you for giving me a small glimpse of true Waikiki and sharing so many interesting stories with me. This is what made me fall in love with this place. Visiting from Toronto, Ive never met more sincere, adventure loving and kind people.MAHALO foreveer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can’t agree more with what has already been said. Disinterested and rude people almost yelling at you to have your last name. The board wasnt so bad but I really not recommend these guys. Go find other rental, cant be worse.

This group must have some kind of monopoly on beach rentals in this area because theres no way a service supplier that had to compete with other suppliers to survive could feature as part of their service employees that are so disinterested, lazy, stupid, and complacent. Its like theyre a governmental agency. For me, it was like renting a surfboard from the DMV.
