This place was impressive! We could have spent the entire day here easily. The displays and stations were all in great working order and the employees were nice. Whoever was working the front desk on 7/24 at closing, I didnt catch the name, but he was AWESOME! I wish we lived closer because we would definitely have annual passes.
As long as they keep the blue blocks I am very satisfied and Kellie spinks is by far the most amazing worker ever in the facility. The Gabes are pretty great to!
Great little place to spend a few hours with the little ones. Our 2 yr old had a blast moving from activity to activity. Most things are geared towards slightly older children, but still plenty to keep the little guy entertained. Staff was all very helpful and kind. Cute area to hist parties available as well.
Kids had a great time but the employee refused to let my 80 year old mother-in-law use the restroom while she waited on the younger family members in our group. Come on people, we paid for four tickets and youre not going to let an elderly member of our group use the restroom because, she doesnt have a sticker?!?!?! Luckily, the folks in the cafe next door were more reasonable and compassionate. I highly recommend the cafe next door...
My two-year-old loved it here! The museum was very well maintained and the price for admission was fair. Great for a rainy day.
My son enjoyed this museum a lot! They’ve found the magic! It’s not a fancy place, but it’s an engaging environment. Definitely worth a visit.
I was so looking forward to taking my grandchild to this museum because so many people had raved about it and it is a non profit supported by local businesses. Unfortunately our experience was less than desirable. There were only 2 staff members who worked the desk and no others available to keep this play areas manageable. For example, there is a nursery with baby dolls, cribs, changing table etc. but there were no babies in the room. The area where the lego cars could be assembled only had parts and no complete cars available. The market area had nothing on the shelves, there were items strewn all over the floor and in other areas. The arts and crafts area had only a few supplies left and the bathroom smelled so bad we couldnt use it. I know this was a busy day, the end of holiday season, but that should be no excuse for how bad the facility was. I will also remark that in general the hygiene of the area was less than desirable.
Took my almost 4 year old this weekend and she had a blast! We spent 4 hours here and she didnt want to leave. There are so many fun and interactive exhibits for her to play with. Its a great spot for this age group.
There are 2 sections in this establishment and the kids had a ball in both. There were arts crafts and many other things for the kids to do. They want to go back soon and my wife enjoyed it as well. Good way to spend the day with the family.
Our granddaughters, ages 5 and 11, have always enjoyed Hands On each time the visit us in Hendersonville, NC. This kids entertainment and learning venue is always fresh and vibrant, as well as very well maintained and clean.
What a sweet place, which I had never visited, since my sons are grown. There were so many happy children and parents who seemed relaxed, and great activities. I was there to share rhymes from Designed to SHINE! Read Aloud Rhymes for Any Size Heart for an Author reading, which was was fun and lovely for all of us. Thank you, Hands On! Childrens Museum!
The best little hands on museum in town, where kids can explore and use their imaginations, we even have a family membership.
Stumbled upon this hidden gem today while having lunch downtown. Highly recommend. Great break for kids and they give you an all day pass. Play, go have lunch and shop, and then wear them back out for the drive home. Also- right next to a great coffee shop.
Such and enchanting little quaint museum that I enjoyed more than other bigger children’s museum out there! So hands on and experiential and feels so magical there!!
Kids have a wonderful time. However, it is a little pricey. Admission is $8 per person for everyone over the age of 1 year. You would probably spend 1 to 2 hours here. There can be a wait to do some of the exhibits at busy times.
Great place for kids to play and learn. Lots of activities and admission covers the entire day. We had a blast. Definitely going back.
Great place for kids and families with lots of hands on activities including painting, climbing and sliding, a store to shop, bubble maker and lots more.
We had so much fun here! Its basically a giant imagination booster with different settings for kids. Theres the vets office, the grocery store, ice cream shop, stage, dentists chair, nursery, etc. So many places and setups for kids to pretend. We went during a weekday and it wasnt busy at all. So much fun to be has and so many things to play with...including a giant Lite Brite!
We spent three or four hours here with our grandchildren. There were so many things to do! The layout of the museum is not ideal, but the activities were perfect for young children. Well definitely return!
Such a fun and interactive place for kids and adults! Staff are attentive, caring, and fun!
This place was amazing!! Our 4 year old had the time of his life. He opened up so much and was actually able to learn through play. It was a joy to experience and to watch our son enjoy the fun. We will denfinatly be returning in the near future.
Fun place for the kids, while you relax. Only down fall is that you have to pay for adults, which is silly - because there really isnt anything for adults to do.
Wish I could wave a wand to place one of these in every town in America!! Perfect size to be personable and comfortable to follow your child in play safely. Great staff, activities--just a fine operation and service!!
Unfortunately, a rather bad situation for visitors to Hendersonville. We visited three days ago and will NEVER return.Details:1) Was very expensive! For a couple of kids below 6, 2 grandparents and one parent (5 total): $42+change. That’s rather steep for 1.5 hours of time, considering kids run out of things to do in there. (Maybe ok for locals with annual memberships and regular use.... but as one time visitors, bad deal!)2) While our 2 yr old kept finding things to be interested in, our 6 yr old was bored rather quickly, about 40 minutes in. Seems to be geared towards 2–5 yr olds, which is not clear as you enter.3) Son scratched himself at center crawling through something, got a bad rash the next day. Doctors diagnosis: Hand Foot Mouth disease.Since we were at a super-clean vacation home prior and after, it is highly probable the virus was contracted there. So for us, this is a NEVER AGAIN type of deal.
Absolutely amazing!!!Hands On! Is perfectly priced and sized. Its a wonderful place for you to teach, learn and grow with your child. There are endless activities to keep your child engaged. The facility promotes creativity and imagination.
Awesome! Hendersonville is not really a kids kind of tourist town, but with the opening if the ECCO Aquarium in addition to the Hands on Museum, our toddler grandchild was happily entertained. Just wish there was a nap zone for grandparents here. :)
Lots of great interactive learning experiences for my four year old, that I also enjoyed taking part in. The highlight for me was the stage and costumes they had for children her age.
This place is a real gem in Downtown Hendersonville. Loads of activities to stimulate little minds. Kids learn while exploring in a safe place.
As a prior volunteer here for seven years, I recommend this as a safe and secure place to bring your young child or children, as long as you do NOT wander off to smoke/ eat, and do NOT focus mostly on on your smart-phone for video games or Wall Street data. However, you should remember that children will sometimes behave childishly, particularly when they seek to impress other kids. So do NOT rely entirely on the busy young staff at the reception desk for your childs well-being.
A little bit run down. Seemed like it could use a good cleaning or maybe some fresh paint. Not as good as the old Johnson City TN downtown one. Kinda small and worn out for the money.
Excellent place for young kids and their parents. It is very well run and clean.
Good for a daily visit but would not reccomend for birthday parties. Our party coordinator Melissa was not helpful at all. Basically said here is the room & that was is. We never got offer any assistance. We felt very rushed only having the room for an hour & we had a small party. Granted I booked this party last minute because of weather but I would have thought they would have been more helpful. Would not reccomend for parties of any size. I feel that if we would have more people it would have just been worse. I think that it would have also helped if our contact person Melissa was nicer & not rude to me or our other party guests.
One of the best childrens museums. They managed to pack a lot of cool exhibits in a relatively small area. Definitely worth visiting.
This is a very cool kids museum that encourages kids imagination... You can easily spend a few hours here and your kids will have a good time.
We come here every year. It has a warm community feeling to it, its well maintained and theres always something new. Great spot to spend hours with kids.
This is a great place to visit especially in bad weather. The staff is super friendly. Not many things you can do for 5$ a kid. My kids love going and hate leaving. It is a bit small but there are still plenty of things to do for young kids.
And its only going to get better.
Cute little play place not sure why its called a museum.
So much creative play and role-play. Recently had a birthday party there and it is the cheapest place in town for kids to party and have a great time
Great place for children to both learn and play. My 5 year old loves it. There is a pretend ice cream shop, post office. Theater Stage, and more. Currently $5.00 per person. Or you can purchase a yearly pass. This is the 2nd year we have gotten the yearly pass, good deal if you are local.
My daughter loves it here. Had her 1st birthday party at Hands On and it was perfect. Cant wait for the expansion!
Fun place to take toddlers and young children. They have a dinosaur dig area, art, pretend grocery, pretend Kilwins Ice cream and chocolate, pretend nursery with baby dolls, pretend vet hospital and more.
Lots of stuff for kids to play with that stimulates their imaginations. A nice break from all of the screen time..
For the price you pay and the simple fact that it is non-profit its a pretty nice place. My daughter especially enjoyed the grocery store they had where she could shop, pay for, and ring up groceries. They have a lot to do but it is a LOT smaller then I imagined. It is all one floor with several different areas. My kids are 18 months and almost 4 and they had a good time.Pros:As described, several different play areasNice for all agesPrimarily clean (could have done better on the restrooms)Good priceNon-profitCons:SmallOn the main strip so parking is..... minimalOne really big con for me was that they dont monitor the areas so kids were, for example, taking 5 dolls at a time and putting them into the wrong area so other kids did not have a chance to play with them. Or taking the shopping carts out of the shopping area and running a muck with them. I understand this is not the museums fault, its crappy parenting honestly, but the volunteers could do a little better to walk around make sure things are tidy / in the correct play area.Overall, would recommend and will probably return in the future.
Went to a birthday party here and my son had a blast. Lots of fun for young kids.
This place is very cool. But its do small $5 a person is pretty expensive. It also smells weird. But if you have younger kids its nice that you can see them with out moving.
So much for kids to do its a really awesome place and the staff is so friendly and helpful we really enjoyed it!
At the time we were here, my son was 5. He and I had a great time exploring this hands on, child led museum.
This is a great little museum in downtown Hendersonville surrounded by plenty of places to eat. Our kids are 10 months to 7 years old, and they all had fun. Our oldest, however, lost interest more quickly than our 4 year old. There are a lot of activities to foster learning and creativity through play for kiddos up to 7 or 8 year olds. Older kids might feel like the activities are too young. Our kids really enjoyed the pretend play and the light pegboard. I highly recommend this place for anyone with little who want to go have a nice day put with the kids.
My son loves this Museum. We visit every time we are in Hendersonville.
Always a good time. Recently renovation so the price increases a little but still worth it.
I have been calling for a couple days to get info about having a party. No one has returned my call when I left a message and when I call nobody picks up the phone .
Great for children, I just wish there were places for them to climb/explore. There are spots with rocks that my little one loves to climb, but she gets in trouble if she does. otherwise, its fantastic!!
This place is awesome! I love taking my kids because they have so much fun and there are many activities for them. And it is only $5 each to get in. Wonderful for a rainy day or anyday.
Clean. Small. Area was small creating a bit of a claustrophobic atmosphere. The birthday area was small and generic.
Had so much fun here!
Great for young kids age 2-7
Many fun things for kids to do. Crowded on Saturdays. Some kids without apparent supervision.
Had to peel the kiddos out! Super great place to burn off some energy. Could use an extra hand for cleaning, but otherwise- get place!
Super cute place to take kids to play and explore. My little boy loved it!
My grandkids love this place.
World class museum in the heart of Historic Downtown Hendersonville, NC.
So much fun for the kids. They cried when we left.
Entertaining great for small kids
Great place, our granddaughter really enjoyed it.
Mean person in the lobby. The LEGO is dirty and incomplete. The sharpie is old and useless. Money making place!
Me and the kids had a blast there.Sadly they close to early.
Lots of fun things for children/adults to do!!
We had Soooo much FUN!
Not the biggest, but very creative. Great learning place for your children!!
Awesome. Staff is friendly, there is plenty to do and my kid just loves it. Plus, we get free passes because of our library card. I love it.
There are bigger and fancier ones in big cities, but for Hendersonville this is very well done. It is, as some say, generally more aimed for 4 or 5 years olds. Congrats to all those who made and make this a success.
Very fun place for kids to play and learn at the same time.
My 4 yr old keeps begging me to go back it. We had such a good time.
This is a great little museum for small children. Our son enjoyed pushing around a shopping cart and playing with in the music room.
Such a fun place to take the kids! Highly recommend!
Fun place for all ages....it is so interactive! Really enjoyed the play and not to mention how great it was for us as parents to get to play along too!
Really great and creative play tucked into a small space in downtown Hendersonville!
My kids love it but some areas were needing a little work the last 2 times we went, like the make buble rope and runinng out of paint in art area. It is more for little kids, they should not charge adults.
We were on a family vacation to the south...some relatives we were staying with in Hendersonville told us to go to Hands On. I was helping the dad with some house projects but dropped the kids and my wife off at Hands On. So I personally have not been here. However...When I picked everyone up: my kids said they LOVED IT. My wife too said it was one of the coolest places she had ever been to with the kids.
Kinda small but so worth the reasonable price - grab a coffee next door first!
Great place to spend anywhere between 1-3 hours. Lots of varied spaces. Very friendly staff!
You cant ask for much more on a rainy day than to have an indoor portion of this facility....and the option of suds for the adults doesnt hurt. Plenty to do
It was lots of fun for the kids but much smaller than I thought. Small kids enjoyed but my bigger kids got bored with it fairly quick
A fun, inexpensive place to take the kids for a few hours of safe, semi-educational fun. The museum description may be a bit of a stretch, but it still provides some quality teaching opportunities. But what they do have is several different themed kid size play areas, that kids can interact with and learn about such as, a grocery store area that has little shelves and little shopping carts and they even have a working cash register with a working conveyer belt. The shelves are sectioned into fruits grains oils etc... So that kids can learn about the food pyramid. Theres a vet office with x-rays of animals for kids to look at and stuffed animals for kids to treat. They also have a stage with curtains and dress up clothes so kids can put on a play for their parents. Beside the stage is a small puppet theater with puppets. Theres a post office, a baby nursery with baby dolls, an ice cream shop, a Lego area with race track and an art area where they can paint, draw in sand, blow huge bubbles etc.., and every where you look they have various facts on plaques for kids or parents to read and learn. All in all its not as educational as a traditional museum, but its certainly more fun for the young and young at heart crowd. But probably the best part about the place(aside from wearing out the kids lol) is all the adorable photo opportunities to take Sooooo cute!!!
Not alot of stuff to do
We have taken our son there the last 3 years weve been in the area for vacation. He spends at least an hour there! Lots of fun and imaginative play (vs electronics). Affordable too!
Great fun and educational place for kids and family to visit.
Weve been coming here for 9 years. Its been wonderful and has been great to watch how its grown and evolved over the years.
Myself and my family absolutely loved going to the Hands On Museum! The Kilwins Ice Cream shop was the big hit with the kids and my favorite was the giant lite-brite! If you dont live in Hendersonville it is worth the drive to Hendersonville to hang out for the day, there is lots to do here! Also there is a public parking lot right behind the museum so walking to and from your car is extremely convenient!
