Brilliant! A birding haven!Note: you must sign-in at the front desk in the office before you can enter the preserve and you must sign-out on your way out. Closes at 2pm, so get there early. Weekly bird list board is useful for birders. Highly recommended. Friendly staff. Good place for children to experience nature.
Im happy that this preserve is finally open again after being closed from the lockdown! Its a nice quiet place for walks and admiring the different birds, animals (rabbits and lizards), and flowers. Its free to enter! Binoculars arent available for rent due to infection reasons so bring your own if possible. Read the website for the hours when this preserve is open as it changes depending on the month/season.
What a lovely little freebie! Enjoyed walking around and seeing the variety of birds and insects. There was also a tortoise
Beautiful place to visit and get some exercise. So much wild life to see. Next time I will bring my big lenses and camera to get some good pictures. The staff was very friendly and helpful too. 10 stars.
Definitely a highlight of our Vegas adventure and now a must see when we visit! Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve is a short drive from The Strip and has free entrance. Beautiful preserve! Great trails and 9 ponds! A lookout tower! Duck blinds! Educational signage! Kind and knowledgeable staff! And of course, many life birds seen! Gallinule, coot, scaup, finches, swallows, several hummingbirds, grebes, ruddys, phoebes, gnatcarchers, killdeer, egrets, ibis, yellowlegs, grackles, stilts, doves, jackrabbits, minnows, many desert cottontails, a red eared slider, quail, and a loud bullfrog! Thank you for this magnificent spot!
Do not forget your binoculars... this is a most pleasant and serene place to visit. Enjoy the sun and take an early morning stroll!
I visited Las Vegas during a heatwave. I wanted something nice to do in the morning that was cooler and not in the direct sun. The Bird Viewing Preserve ended up being one of my favorite places to visit during my trip. There are some nice walking paths to go around the preserve. I got some great pictures of animals while I was there. It is like a little oasis in the desert and it felt nice to see some greenery.
What a nice place to visit with the whole family. Come at different times during the year and you can see different birds. Staff is very knowledgeable and willing to help. Bring binoculars and professional camera if you have one or just enjoy walking around. Plan on spending at least couple of hours if you walk all the way around the preserve.
Very cool location but was blown away how kind and knowledgeable the staff are. They are friendly and gave excellent tips and suggestions. We are very appreciative of the service and the beauty of the area so we will return to see more birds soon! :)
Great place to see all kinds of birds! Free to the public.
Terrific nature center! Paul was an excellent guide! In the summer, you need to be there as early as possible. It opens at 6am. By 9, it’s too hot to walk around comfortably. They recently got new signage and everything is clearly labeled. Bright new signs are very informative.
Great spot for birding and generally to walk in nature for those who arent bird mad. The area is very well maintained, and offers a great escape to visitors to the Vegas area who sent into the normal gambling and show shenanigans. Staff was super friendly. Would definitely return when back in the area. Added three new lifers, so no complaints! Just note the opening hours!
We had a great time walking through all the wetland sections and seeing the local and migratory birds. I would definitely go in the earlier in the day especially when it warmer.
Great experience for free. Very knowledgeable man at the front desk (Paul) who gave us lots of great tips for what to look for. It was really hot so bring water or buy some from the front desk for a dollar. Some cute souvenirs as well.
Had a great time walking the grounds of the bird preserve with friends. Very friendly and knowledge staff (they even provided loaner binoculars to help spot some birds). This is a great escape from the city of youre looking to get away and reset.
Great spot to enjoy the tranquility of nature. They have awesome views of Frenchmans Mountain. Its best to arrive just after sunrise to experience all the wildlife before the crowds. Early in the morning you can see all varieties of migratory birds, turtles, bunnies, coyotes... No guarentees though. Later in the day youll see more common stuff, mud hens and ducks. Maybe a Harrier or toad if lucky. No matter when you visit it always makes for a great walk. You can also meet and talk with some great folks and the as staff is friendly and knowledgeable, but less so when busy.
Nice staff and beautiful, peaceful place. Closes before noon. Recommend going early as possible to beat the heat and see the early morning birds. Opens six am.
Lovely visit with my 7 year old son. Staff so friendly and helpful & easy to chat with. The park was peaceful and memorable and we enjoyed our time walking about with binoculars and spotting the Northern Harrier!
Great place to see all kinds of birds! Free to the public.
Very peaceful. There were alot of birds, rabbits and dragonflies. I loved seeing the Roadrunner and quail.
The best area in Nevada to take pictures of some kind of birds.
Loved this little stop! It is cute & there is some nature to view, a nice little stroll. It was super hot but manageable - would definitely suggest going early in the day, they close at noon in the summer.
Nature. Birds. Water ponds. A greatvway to spend the day in nature. Or just a couple few hours. So peaceful and serene, with the mountains in the background. Definitely worth a trip out. Be sure to check the hours before you go!!
It is a beautiful place to walk. Staff are amazing! They’re knowledgeable and like to share their information with visitors. Always friendly and the paths are always clean and it is never crowded..
A very pleasant way to get some exercise and get some serenity in the busy world we live in. We had a pick up trash morning and it was delightful to see the wild birds in a great habitat utilizing the recycled water from the population. Kudos to Henderson. Keep up the good work.
This is one of the best, if not the best, places to go bird watching in or near Las Vegas.
A wonderful place to wander and enjoy nature!
Beautiful.
Lots of wildlife today. Roadrunner, geese, great egret, lizards and chipmunks!
It’s beautiful here
Never knew this place existed. Great place to take a lazy stroll, pictures and enjoying the out doors while still in the city..
Great place to visit, view, and photograph! Does not seem like such a place would exist in the desert. Must see if you are visiting the Las Vegas area.
Nice pace to visit, need to arrive early though theres a lot of ground to cover, it closes at 2 P.M.
This place is awesome. We got to see a bunch of different types of birds, lizards and butterflies. Its semi sereal being here as you feel like you are no longer in the desert. There are lots of ponds to look at and various types of plants. Great way to spend an afternoon outside. Just make sure you go before two and you dont bring your dog.
Absolutely beautiful Bird Preserve - great for casual walks and views, sketching, and bird watching.
Great spot for birding. Saw quail, roadrunner, herons and egrets. Friendly staff.
Got to experience this wonderful gem of nature while visiting family in Henderson. There are several lakes for the multitude if waterfowl that find respite here in the Nevada desert. There are many other types if birds which abound the preserve.I am not really a birder, but this place could convince me to become one.It is such a peaceful and wonderful place to go. It is beautifully cared for. And all if this for FREE.Of course, donations are happily accepted.
This is a very peaceful place
Awesome nature park...for relaxing
A hidden treasure in Vegas, come here for a morning walk, and you will get a sense of peace and calm
Very well maintained close to home beautiful birds and Native Wildlife to see
Have been here a few times. Staff are always friendly and knowledgeable. The preserve is a series of ponds with maps available for easy navigation (I just take a picture with my phone for reference). You can do as little or as much as you want. A good viewing stand at about 10 minutes walk. Huge variety of birds during the winter and spring. Only cons are their limited hours and no dogs. No dogs limits when we can go, as our outdoors days usually involve bringing ours and we also live on the complete opposite side of town, making it impossible for a drop-the-dog-off quick visit.
I enjoyed this walk quite a lot. The preserve is part of Henderson Parks and Rec so you are required to check in at a small building first. The staff and volunteers are super helpful and friendly. Once in, there are nine separate ponds with various bird activity. Some people are serious bird watchers and or photographers and some are like me, just out for a peaceful walk. The pathways are both paved and dirt and very accessible. No pets allowed.
The COOLEST!!! BEST!!! place to visit for anyone with a birding interest or even a nature interest. The place is huge! 9 ponds! Some of the most beautiful water fowl I have ever seen. March is the time to go, early spring! Migratory season! Must hit!Le Contes Thrasher, Rosss geese, cinnamon teal, avocet, and 5 hummingbird species was my top favorites, but I could spend a week here everyday from open to close.Good binoculars will get you a lot, but a good scope is HIGHLY recommended!Early morning birding is best, but even afternoon sunshine brings dozens of species daily. I would assume after April it will be too hot to get the insane amount of water fowl we got, but I would assume a lot of really cool stuff is still there, and its beautiful and well ran. The hours will fly here!
Great birding day with my son! We love to come here. The raised pathways around the many large ponds are well-maintained and offer a perfect vantage point for bird watching. There are boardwalks extending out into a couple of the ponds, plus a great watchtower overlooking a large area. The staff members are welcoming and always glad to chat about birds and let us know just where we might sight a special species. Shared a wonderful mom n son bird outing and plan a return visit in a couple weeks!
This was a beautiful experience for us. We spotted many bird varieties and enjoyed the walking tour. Very knowledgable staff and their loaned binoculars worked great.
Such a great place. Nice, knowledgeable docents and very clean. Great place to take a small hike or to take the littles to learn about wildlife!
A nice place for a morning walk and listen to the birds
Pretty, quiet and well kept.
Serine and beautiful
A great place to spend some time. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff.
A fantastic peaceful place to go birding. One of my favorite places in the world.
This is a great place for a quiet walk and a chance to see a variety of birds. Very secluded.
Always enjoy my visits. Great photo ops. Great staff. Very knowledgeable.
Back some 50 years ago what is now know as the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve was simply known to us kids as the duck ponds off Boulder Highway in Pittman...now some 50 years later the City of Henderson has taken 9 of these rather large ponds and formalized them into a truly nice birders delight. Las Vegas/Henderson are on a migratory bird route and so dozens of various kinds of fowl stop here to feed and rest. Some back east friends noticed the signs in the highway median and asked if we could stop after some morning shopping at the nearby Galleria Mall (a great place for lunch too) .
Who knew! What a pleasant surprise to enjoy this oasis in the desert. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Lots of birds to see, nice (mostly paved) trails with plenty of benches to sit and enjoy the beauty and birds. We had a wonderful visit and I added several species to my life list of birds - including seeing 2 Vermilion Flycatchers!
Clearly a jewel amidst the desert. Excellent place for Birding. Great example of wetland conservation that aren’t natural but man made. This is a Birding paradise to spot the commoners as well as the migrants. Well laid out paths and is worth spending the entire day.
This is a beautiful sanctuary. We came after some rain so there were lots of blooms and greenery. I highly recommend a visit - you can make it as quick or as long as you like.
Great to get away to something new.
Great place to visit if youre looking for a bit of nature in the middle of the valley. And they have a cool observation beehive now so you can watch the bees make honey!
Fun, beautiful park. Great to take a stroll. We saw a lot of birds, but also saw toads, turtles and rabbits.
Quiet and peaceful. Its great for kids too.
Great spot for bird watching and lovely walking trails.
The staff is really informative and wont hesitate to tell you about the different species. Saw lots of different hummingbirds. I recommend going really early, take water, comfy shoes, a hat, and binoculars.
Beautiful area with great views.
A little slice of birdwatching in a city you would not expect, definitely worth a trip if you enjoy birds like i do
A nice escape from the hustle of Vegas. Go early in the morning to avoid midday heat and to see more activity from the wildlife. Multiple ponds fill the preserve and benches strategically placed allow the visitor to sit and watch and take photos. Very knowledgeable staff answer questions and impart stories worthy of your time. Desert view beyond the preserve is stunning. Entry is free so save your money for the games of chance on the strip.
This 100 or so acre Preserve has many species of birds -ones that live here year round and migratory. Today we saw 5 pelicans.
Not far from the strip but a different world. Go early morning. They open @ 7:00 am. Property is in one of the major flyways. Spring & fall Re amazing but summer is good too. LOTS of easy walking trails. People who work there are very friendly and helpful. We go to be outdoors and see birds.
Very beautiful place to visit
Interesting and different experience. The man-made lakes are a bit artificial, but it draws a wide variety of birds. The staff is friendly and often volunteers educational facts to visitors.
Great bird site. Lots of shore birds.
The Preserve has 9 ponds which are home to countless species of birds. Migratory birds also stop in during their travel. From raptors to waterfowl to songbirds!Paved and unpaved trails weave around the ponds and viewing areas. There are hummingbird and seed feeders, picture/info signs, benches, a small viewing tower, boardwalk and a nice little indoor exhibit. Friendly, helpful staff and loaner binocs in case you need one. The preserve is handicape accessible, has restrooms and golf cart tours for a small fee.
Almost like if youre wandering around a forest but in a desert, the preserve is the perfect place to have a morning walk and see numerous animals, mainly about the birds cause this preserve is all about.
Plenty of birds and small reservoirs. Miles of walking trails. During the summer they close earlier do to the heat. Considering the area you should go as early in the morning as possible. It is the Vegas area...
This is a nice hidden little gem. The staff is so friendly and knowledgeable. The trails and paths are really nice to walk along.
Well worth a visit, very easy to find and park. The staff are very helpful with lots of information about the birds you can see, visit very early in the day due to the heat.
Outstanding refuge and staff!! Easy, flat walkways to all ponds, great visibility. Lots of benches. Such a treasure to discover in an otherwise disgusting city. We will definitely be back! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
I LOVE THIS PLACE!
Very nice a lot of trails winding through 9 ponds. Also great for taking pictures of the mountains and the strip
You build it and they will come! A beautiful birding oasis in the desert. Residents and migrants abound! Arrive early to make the most of it! Staff birders are knowledgeable and friendly!!!
So peaceful, scenic. You can almost forget youre in the City.
Loved coming here for the first time! Definitely a hidden gem in the desert. The staff were beyond welcoming and friendly. They took time to walk with us through the classroom and talked with and educated my kids. They made the experience exciting and inviting for all of us. The kids loved walking and exploring around the ponds and see birds we dont normally get to see in Vegas. Well be back for sure.
Fantastic place to take your children to see wildlife first hand. An oasis in the middle of the desert.
Love taking the kids here on an educational journey and of course exercise. Much to see and experience. Staff are super friendly and informative.
A harmonious desert sanctuary with World Famous bird viewing--excellent walking paths & numerous ponds with elevated and ground level photographic blinds. Maps are free at the front desk, bring water & wear comfortable shoes, this sanctuary is very large.
I love to bring my children here, because the water and all the animals bring them so much joy. Its a great place for a picnic and a lazy afternoon.
It’s currently closed due to Covid19.
Its always so nice to walk in this area. It is quiet and peaceful. Depending on the time of year, you can see quite a few birds, rabbits, and lizards. Great for the whole family.
Beautiful scenery, easy walking and they offer golf cart rides for those who want to enjoy but cant do the walk.
Wonderful location for an early morning walk, stroll and bird-watching! Plenty of benches to have a seat and take in the sights and sounds of nature!
Wow! It has really expanded with multiple ponds. Ladies working there are very welcoming & knowledgeable all around. Lots of benches & some lovely look out areas to explore. Best to wear covered shoes for the dirt/gravel walkways. It can get dusty. Bring a hat for the sun! Lovely day.
Great educational place to take youth
Great birding spot in vegas
Such a neat place to visit
Beautiful spot. We saw 4 hummingbirds, different species of ducks, other birds as well. Staff were very friendly.. Thank you for this beautiful place
First visit and must say Wow! A great treasure for any bird lover. Nicely maintained. Friendly staff, knowledgeable and the place is full of birds. Dont miss when you are in the area.
