Great hike, on the moderate side of easy. About 2.6 miles round trip, a ton of quartz and mica. Great for kids. There were a lot of people with dogs.
Family friendly with a beautiful reward! So much to look at, the entire way.
Mica mines and rough canyon are both very fun hikes with dogs, Mica is a fun, quick, easy, jaunt. Rough is challenging and rewarding. I like hiking rough in reverse the most.
This was my very first hike in Grand Junction, and I immediately fell in love with the landscapes and scenery! As a geologist, it was very tantalizing to see the ground blanketed in quartz and muscovite crystals and the mine itself is amazing. I highly recommend the visit! Also, the Rough Canyon side of the trail is a great hike too if youre looking for something longer.
It was a easy hike with beautiful scenery, young kids could easily do this hike and have fun.
Such a gorgeous trail and plenty of off the trail type hiking!
Mica Mine was closed off due to rock slides but the hike was still nice.
Absolutely beautiful! Great place to take the family! Easy hike, several good stopping/resting areas.
The trails can be a little challenging, which is a lot of fun! The scenery is beautiful!
Great hiking trail.
Im an avid rock hound and this area was mesmerizing!! Be aware theres quite a bit of foot traffic, but everyone was friendly. Cant wait to go back!!!
Beautiful trail covered in quartz crystals and micca. Super easy hike even when its wet out. I would guess its a 2- 2½ mile hike but so easy it feels like nothing. The trail is through some wide canyons and has a small creek that runs through part of it. If you go past the mica mines a little bit on the same trail it will end (to the best of my knowledge and sight) at a small waterfall from the mountains run-off. A lot of people also bring their dogs on this trail so dont be afraid of it being too difficult and you or your animal getting injured.
A wonderful hike, beautiful views.
Really enjoy this area. If you want a place to practice with your 4 wheeler this is the place for you. Many different levels of riding and the scenery is gorgeous!!! Warning: during the summer months it is extremely hot. Be sure and pack plenty of water and gator aid!!!!
Beautiful place to go ride my quad
Awesome place to visit! I have never seen so many quartz rocks all over the ground. The mica in the rocks was glistening in the sun! It was a great family experience we will never forget!
Took my youth group on a late night hike to the micah mine. It was awesome. Its about 1.5 mi ea way. Easy hike and lots of scary noises at night. My students loved it
Beautiful trail and fascinating geology. The surprise outcropping of granite loaded with mica in a sandstone canyon is amazing.
Beautiful sight, small cave at the end. Goes up amd down but very straightforward. Fun to do with a group of friends. And lots of opportunities for pictures.
Awesome trails! Did it in a RZR 900 and has a blast, though you should absolutely have rock sliders and a beefy skid-plate.
Would highly recommend taking the family out and enjoying the scenery!
Beautiful place. One of my favorites! Watch for cactus!!!!!
A short easy hike filled with lovely views and neat minerals.
This hike is so worth it. Especially with kids. The mica mine has really cool mica formations.
Pleasant walk! Beautiful views
To many ATVs to hunt anywhere
So good. Pretty and fun to explore. Rock climbing is fun and the creek was the key.
Great trails. Fun slickrock.
This is a fun and quick little hike up to the Mica and Quartz Mines they had active years ago! Easy and fun for the entire family, with plenty of shade. There are other trails as well at the Bangs Canyon entrance, if you are looking for more adventure!
One of my favorite trails for R.C rock crawling and for hiking with my dogs. Needs a trash can and regular maintenance at the parking lot.
Micah mines is interesting, its to the left of the path as you go out. We walked right past it, found it after hearing some kids hollering about the Micah they were finding. Not a very difficult trail up to the mines, you can keep going after that and it gets rugged with no clear path. The rough canyon trail is a lot of fun, not much of a trail if you go far enough. Follows the canyon all the way to the falls (theres not much water). It eventually connects with the Jeep road, so you could make it a loop.
Easy afternoon hike! My children loved it!
Beautiful. Definitely going to have to come back and see this area again
Awesome time on sxs!
Well traveled, well marked, great for all ages.
Great hike. Bring the bug spray though.
Great hike and there is even a rock you can climb inside of.
Hiked the Mica Mine trail..Kid and elderly friendly for the most part, so many awesome things to look at both on the hike and once you get to the mine, will definitely be doing it again soon!
Gorgeous, amazing and beautiful. Really makes you feel like youre in the old West. I couldnt but appreciate the journey our forebears had to make with the dreams of a new nation in their minds.
Well maintained, family friendly hiking trail. Great views year round, easily done for all ages. One word of caution: dog owners, despite leash laws, are known to let their dogs run off the leash on this hike. Be alert for less behaved dogs to run up and greet other hikers and dogs.
Wonderful fun hike.
Fun hikeVery nice views
Great hike! Be prepared for a real adventure. We hiked down the canyon and then back to the car on Jeep road.
This place is a great hike in the summer mostly in the shade . Anyone can make it pace yourself. Its beautiful no bikes on this trail bathroom at trail head
Nice stop beautiful scenery. Easy to locate right off of little rock road. The hike to the mines is about an hour. Big parking lot for plenty of cars and a bathroom in the lot as well. Excellent spot to hike fully reccomend it.
We love this place to hike, we are seniors and just bring plenty of water to drink.
Collected an entire bag of trash here.. thats sad that people dont respect the outdoors better.
Short hike to the mica mines, 1.2 miles, and quartz littered trails. Pretty popular hike so go at odd times to avoid the crowds.
Absolutely beautiful! Great for long hikes, and the driving trails are very fun. Not too difficult, but definitely need experience when driving the trail
Fun easy trail
Great, easy hike with kids and dog.
This trail is a great workout for beginner to moderate hikers. Many friendly digs off leash (:Always clean and always stunning.
Nice place to hike. We went by the old quartz mine which want too far from the trailhead.
Great hike!, even for small kids. Plenty of mica to be found. Beautiful scenery!
This is a favorite of mine. We take the dog and the kids. Its not a hard hike
Amazing scenary. Quartz everywhere. The mica is beautiful. The hike takes a couple houra to complete. Bring water!
One of my favorite hikes in the junction area very beautiful. Normally not to busy and great to walk the dog.
Love mica mines great hike
Great short hike. Beginning may be a little tough for older folks as it goes down into the canyon but from there its an easy walk.
Memories of childhood.
Great hike!
Had an Awesome time
One out-house at this trailhead but it was out of toilet paper, so make sure to bring your own, just in case. Trailhead closed from 11PM to 5PM. There are trails available for hikers, bikers, dirt bikers, and off-roaders. Dog-friendly, but please pick up after your pet!! And pack out the waste when you leave the parking lot! There were a handful of filled dog-waste bags left at the trailhead. I guess some people think someone else will collect it for them??I hiked the Micah Mine trail (hiking only) and it was moderate in difficulty getting down along stepped rocky terrain but the rest was easy with a handful of small stream crossings. Just over an hour-long hike with a brief stop at the mine cave area. You can tell youre getting close to the mine when the trail becomes more glittery with micah :)There were probably about 40 people on the trail but for the most part I felt alone on the trail as everyone was dispersed. Lots of families with young children as well as more elderly folk out that day. I was there on a Friday and the parking lot was half-full so I can only imagine how busy it gets on weekends. Half the parking lot was filled with off-roaders with their jeeps: there was a big group meet up that day. The parking lot also has a loading ramp, which my dirt-bike friends used with ease. It was the exact height of my friends Toyota Tacoma quad-cab truck with the tailgate down.
Super cool and easy!
Itz just a rock get over it
Have done rough canyon a couple times w kids. Pretty good.
Beautiful canyons with great hiking and biking trails
Keep this place a secret! Go back!
