A great park and hiking area with multiple trails. The trails follow the coastline cliffs and connect down to the beach or wind through the Butterfly Grove with lush flora and trees. A great place to visit if in Goleta or near Santa Barbara and there were a few butterflies in the Grove in the early September heat. The views from the open coastline trails are also great on a clear day.
Beautiful scenery, felt like I was walking into some of the landscape in Colorado; however, I could actually breathe! The many of trails that wind throughout are clearly marked by warnings stating the trees have been effected by drought and are at risk of falling. There was the beach when you climbed to the top of a large hill and down a short path. My partner is disabled and uses a cane but was still able to traverse all terrain in this park. Albeit we did not want to go back down the large, steep hill we climbed heading to the beach and found ourselves on an adventure by taking the long way back to the car. Worth it.
This Mesa contains over 100 acres of open space with miles of hiking paths, a Monarch Butterfly Preserve and easy coastal access and a nice sandy beach. This is a great place to hike, mountain bike, bird watch, and generally enjoy nature. There are several access points that lead to miles of unspoiled beaches. A large section of the beach is a Snowy Plover preserve and many species of sea birds and waterfowl can also be seen. It is possible to spot pods of dolphins, and during migration season whales can also be seen. In the past there were tens of thousands of Monarch Butterflies that over wintered in the protected eucalyptus groves but those numbers have been greatly reduced in the last few years. Today (10/02/2020)I was only able to see less than a few dozen. There are lovely ocean and mountain views and the Channel Islands are easily viewed along the bluff adjacent to the ocean. There is a parking lot with plenty of free parking and there are no admission fees. Dogs are allowed but need to be leashed. Highly recommended and well worth a trip.
Beautiful space...locals love walking here.
Beautiful place for a walk, jog, bike, or just to enjoy the outdoors.
Absolutely gorgeous beach, not too crowded since it’s a somewhat lengthy walk from UCSB. This is also a very historic beach because it remains the only place on mainland US soil to have experienced a direct military attack in World War II, when a Japanese submarine surfaced here and shelled the oil field here with 25.5 inch rounds. This was the first attack on the mainland by a foreign country since the War of 1812.
Sunsets, long walks, dog friendly, beach walkers, nature
Great hike, lots of beautiful nature & wildlife to see!
I got married here. Perfect.
So beautiful here. Sonoma coast is rugged and cold but do picturesque
Eucalyptus grove sometimes has monarch butterflies. sea cliff walk is amazing too.
This place has many trails to choose from and cute animals to look at. The bunnies, hawks, and butterflies accompany you all the way to the beach where more ocean life awaits.
So great. Breathtaking views..easy walk
Special walks and talks with my precious first born who needs to heal.
Great ocean view and hiking trails, ride mountain bikes, and watch sunsets but be sure to bring your flashlight
10 mile loop on the bike with a few technical trails down the bluff to the beach. Lost this thing for a while. Hope she turns up to the car.
Love this place!!
Beautiful place
Its a nice outdoor space to go for a walk. Theyre are a lot of birds here and frequented by bikers, walkers and people with their dogs. Occasionally from the bluffs youll be able to spot sea life, from dolphins to whales during migration season. Its located on the other side of the Ellwood monarch butterfly preserve.
Quiet and natural with beautiful views and seasonal butterfly migration.
I think this is one of my favorite places to go out and explore just because of how close it is, and how pretty it is. People walk their cute little dogs and actually clean up, sunsets look beautiful from the cliffs and the ocean has a neat little private Beach area under the bluffs. I go there all the time. Oh and its family friendly !!!!
Love the trails ~ love the photo ops. Magno view & GREAT PRANA
Beautiful place to spend the afternoon. Recomended for people who love to walk and explore. Incredible sunset.
Beautiful. Great safe area. No stress just enjoy yourself.
We Like to ride bikes through here. They seem to be adding more and more restrictions . To where you can walk and bring dogs and horses. Most people arent idiots who will let their dogs disturb plovers or tear up the native plants. The plovers will often come up to us, showing they have better judgment than those setting down the rules. . constant nanny regulations are counter productive and antagonize the people especially be some of the people who might otherwise sympatise with what you are trying to do, is counterproductive.
My favorite walk in town
Hiking walking fresh air
Quiet and serene
Nice, quiet natural foliage bluff area with decent beach access.
Its a great park. It has many trails to run/walk/bike through. There are also a few great spots to hammock while looking over the sea.
Fantastic preserve for walking jogging or just chillaxing under the beautiful California sun.
Nice easy walk
Just love this place. Peaceful views of the ocean from the bluffs, then down to the beach. Wonderful.
The picture speaks for itself.

This is a great place to hike or just go for long walks. I found crabs hidden in the rocks once!
Beautiful hike
One of my fav beach when I stayed on Elwood beach drive. Evening walks on the cliffs of this beach is just awesome. Calm and silent are two words that can describe this place.
Some trails are restricted pending removal of dead trees. Open otherwise.
Awesome!
Easy walk to the beach.
The citytries to ruin it citing security issues with the trees, however its nice to walk there, beware of crazy mountain bikers, they are fast and are not paying attention
