This park is beautiful and well maintained but since COVID the staircase that leads to the bottom of the sink is closed and the bridge repair as been on hold. Due to the bridge closure the path is now an out and back trail. There are lots of benches to sit and chat with a friend all along the trail. Plus there are many small markers on the fences and posts to identify variety of trees & shrubs. There are also about 6 picnic benches and a few grills in the wooded center area of parking.

Very nice little park. The bridge was under repair so the trail wasnt a loop, but its a nice walk no matter what. Im so glad the boardwalk was open! Such a unique view, and waterfalls in Florida! If you want some great photos, I definitely recommend this little park. Not many animals but I saw frogs, snakes, and lots of insects. The fungi was really beautiful too. Im very glad I got to see this amazing geological park.

After hurricane Irma destroyed the boardwalk I came and it was understandable why the boardwalk would be closed, over a year and a half later I visited it and the boardwalk was still closed. Three years later due to the coronavirus supposedly they close the boardwalk again which had barely been open because they recently finished it a few months back, the damn thing was still closed. What’s the point of having the state park exist if visitors can never go down to the bottom. Every year it’s a new baby excuse. At least make the state park have free admission if the sink hole is that unavailable.

Pretty escape from the surrounding area. Of course, I remember my parents bringing me there in the early 70s when you slid down the side on your rear end. It is much prettier now. Currently the stairs into the sink are closed so only the rim trail is open but still a nice little walk. I guess the reason for the stairs being closed is social distancing. Not like the trail is all that wide but it is what it is.

So this place is best in cool to cold weather! If you go when it’s hot, I’d recommend it as staircase exercise day... there is a lathe that circles around the sinkhole and a staircase that goes to the bottom. Take the staircase last.. the wrap around path takes you to a very neat bridge. The only part that took a star away was that there is no way to get close to the water streaming off the rocks; the stairs should of been built closer to it. Other than that great place for a first date, or family morning walk...

My suggestion is to go after it rains so you can see and or hear the water. Otherwise its just a hot walk down a bunch of steps into a hole and back out. the trails are nice so if you up for walking it would be perfect no matter what. The site of the sink hole is just more enjoyable after the rain and i wish someone would have told us this.

The bridge is blocked for renovations and the stairs are blocked during the COVID thing. No warnings were posted online. Total waste of a trip. Literally the park is legally open but effectively closed. Just close it.

Cool place! It’s very small so you don’t need much time to experience it, but worth it. Stop at the visitors center and watch the smallVideo, it’s quite amazing. The walk down tothe sink hole is easy, nice boardwalk well maintained. Note, you don’t get to go all the way to the bottom. We did the little walk all around also which was peaceful.

In the middle of the state, you can witness geologic history in the making. Years ago, you did not have this stairway that allows to see the formations from a distance ( you were able to climb into the depression, but this would obviously cause erosion over time). Very clean park and rest stop area. Well versed and incredibly polite officers available for questions and support. Would really appreciate a longer trail, if this is possible - but really appreciate the recommendations for nearby locations.

Super cool sinkhole and nature walk. The bridge was closed so we had to walk up a few fallen trees but I’ve got great balance so luckily I didn’t fall or slip. It sounded amazing with the rushing water all around and several mini waterfalls. I wish there was seating at the end of the lookout point though. That’s a lot of stairs to go down.

As of 4/15/18 stairs leading to the sinkhole and waterfall viewing are closed due to damage from Hurricane Irma. The park ranger provided a hopeful estimate of summer for the reopening. Despite the stair closure, wonderful trail loop with various tree and plants marked as well as an information center with a seating area and video playing on a continuous loop. The sounds of nature are superb too. Great restroom facility and parking for oversized vehicles and 1 spot for a medium sized RV. Entrance to the park is $4 cash and paid by inserting an envelope into the drop box.

Interesting park. Was very clean, easily located and accessible. Was surprised at how short of a distance the trail was. Currently the trail is not a loop as there is an issue with the bridge, so you have to stop there and return on the same path. The sinkhole was incredible. Once you get to the bottom of the walkway, just sit and listen to the falling water....very relaxing. Great place to go if your counting your steps as the sinkhole is 120 ft. deep. Gonna try it in the spring for a different look.

What a shame to have what could be a nice park be so neglected.First of all covid19 is why parks need to be open. If you can’t go outside and enjoy what little green spaces there are in Gainesville, then we need to mow it down and build on the land .If you close the only thing you have left to look at there then just close the whole thing . And to ask for money to go there .... your having a laugh. And someone should be fired for letting the bridge get in such disrepair that it can’t be used. The only walking path is useless without the bridge. And to say Irma ruined it is totally disingenuous. 3 years ago when Irma came thru that bridge was already in bad shape, and there isn’t any “damage “ from that storm . See pictures

Decided to come visit here after looking it up several times. As soon as I saw they made repairs after Irma, we decided to check it out. We had so much fun here! There is a bridge that still needs repaired but in all it was beautiful, clean, and we enjoyed coming here! There is an informational section when you first enter that describes the sink hole. And the bathrooms were clean!

A nice little surprising spot in Gainesville. The rangers here were quick to answer any questions from the kids. The path around the perimeter is easy to walk, although the bridge was closed when we went so you could not do a complete circle. But a nice walk none the less. The stairs down to the bottom are nice exercise and lead to some nice views. The ambience at the bottom of the stairs makes you think you are somewhere found in North Carolina or Tennessee. After seeing pictures online of a beautiful, enchanted Blue Lagoon, I talked hubby and the kids into driving 4 hours so we could see it in person... Oh my... unfortunately all of the pictures I saw online were heavily filtered and photoshopped, because my beautiful Blue Lagoon turned out to be a tiny, murky, coffee colored sinkhole... it was filled with tons of fallen trees, leaves and just debris of some type.But... the staircase was beautifully built and impressive with it’s size. The park itself is small, but seems well maintained and the parking lot is spacious and well worth the parking fee.And even though I was disappointed that it didn’t look like I was expecting, a day out hiking with the family beats working any day, so it was still a great experience.
