My husband and I stopped by for brunch. We were immediately seated, the waitress was very quick and personable, and the food was cooked perfectly and delicious. I had the tin roof waffle and my husband had the burger with bacon and eggs; both of us really enjoyed our meals. Highly recommend this little gem.
Tried this place for the first time today and had brunch. The restaurant atmosphere is cozy and hip. The food was amazing both in taste and presentation. The waffle actually had chicken in it as well as on top! The shrimp and grits perfectly complimented each other. The chef and waitress were so welcoming and friendly. We can not wait to go back and try dinner. This is a much needed restaurant in this area. Upscale, well prepared delicious food in a cool and funky place.
Went here for Sunday brunch, they had lots of options available. I went with the chicken waffle pops and the fillet breakfast. The chicken waffle pops with honey on them were incredible. The fillet breakfast was tasty and a healthy portion even for someone that was starving when I got there. Love the vibe and the atmosphere and the service was polite, quick and personable. Definitely recommend and definitely coming back!
LOVE IT! The logo on the sign was the first thing to catch my eye as I was driving down Prince Anne street, so I looked them up. This is now one of my favorite spots and its maybe just too cool for this town. The eclectic 70s and 80s rock vibe is incredibly cool. The retro drinking glasses and stuff youd find around your 80s kitchen really took me back in time. I loved the nostalgia of the place. The staff was friendly and immediately starting chatting with us as if we were old friends. The menu includes some unique and interesting menu items, using locally acquired foods and meat. And the chef REALLY delivered. The portions are great for the price and not only was the presentation of the food awesome, but the taste was also amazing.I dont think you can go wrong here if you want that unique experience with some of your favorite foods.
We went for restaurant week. There were 2 tables other than us. There was one waitress. We ordered our food (a berry waffle and the chicken and waffle as they were only offering waffles and no sides). After about 20 minutes we needed more coffee- the waitress now had a nearly full restaurant and was running ragged- we felt bad for her. She made more coffee and gave it to everyone else and ran out (understandable) so she said she’d make more... we never got it. Our waffles arrived 40 minutes after ordering. They weren’t cooked all the way- as in, so doughy we couldn’t cut them. We had somewhere to be and had already waited for that long it wasn’t worth sending them back for new ones. Apparently other tables had the same issue- sending back mostly uneaten waffles. The waitress explained that the manager and head chef had gone to the store for more ingredients and that’s why it was so slow.40 minutes to make 2 waffles? If that’s ALL you’re serving wouldn’t you make the batter in advance (maybe an hour prior to opening)?WHY wouldn’t you get your ingredients BEFORE opening to prevent this from happening? The pros: the atmosphere and decor is amazing and the waitress was super sweet and doing her best.
This place is a legit hidden gem. Eclectic feel with delicious food... Cant really ask for more than that.
This place was great. Breakfast mimosa was awesome. The food was well prepared. Love the Shrimp and Grits. Had my daughters and families there and they treated us wonderfully. Highly recommend this place.
Fantastic! The food was phenomenal. The hang ten burger came out perfectly and well seasoned. Even the lemonade was the best Ive ever had. Wouldnt change a thing about my meal. The chef came out to ask how our food was our waitress was very nice.Dont let the other reviews about price discourage you! The food is fresh and expertly crafted. Worth every cent! The atmosphere is quirky and eclectic in just the right way. The sign out front is what drew me in and the food is what will keep me coming back.
Fantastic food. A little more expensive than other places, but everything they serve is made in house - and I mean everything... Even the ketchup and mayo. The atmosphere is incredible - after seeing a group of people in WVU garb, they started playing country roads and other WV related songs. It was truly a personal touch and place Ill be returning to when we come back to town to visit.
Highly recommend this place. Prenominal staff and quite delicious food! Highly recommend coming with a group of friends. I went for brunch but theyre dinner menu looked stunning and during the summer theyll be having live music outside on their stage. You wont be disappointed. DO tell them in advance if youve allergic reactions to ANYTHING as they really utilize a number of things in their food and cooking!!!
Disclaimer: I have not had anything but the cheese board, and no cocktails were available in this initial visit--will update when I taste both.Atmosphere was funky, fun colors, and while the music was good, it was admittedly a little loud. Server was prompt, very helpful, and quite nice. But onto the food: the cheese board was huge! Beautifully laid out and very yummy. Though it was rather expensive, with cheese, nuts, and fresh food at this caliber, it was more than worth it.However, the best part was definitely the small dessert with the check. A succulent and fresh bite of white chocolate. On top of that, the chocolate was filled with mango, served with a thick berry sauce, and topped with a pleasantly floral sprinkling of bee pollen. It was AMAZING.I could have devoured a whole sampler of these chocolates. You could taste every flavor, a great final touch to the meal.We will definitely be visiting again to try some entrees, and hopefully some tasty drinks!
This is Fredericksburgs best kept secret. I love this place. Owner/Chef Kris is amazing. His better half takes care of the front of the house. Beyond nice, and very attentive. They are gluten free friendly.
Love this place, its fairly new to the area but I have nothing but great things to say about it. The food for one is definitely as advertised fresh from farm to table, high quality ingredients and great tasting food along with with a pretty good selection of vegetarian offerings if that is your thing. They also have a patio that is dog friendly. The food is a little more on the pricey side than some places but based on the quality of the ingredients and what you get its worth it in my opinion.Lastly, I must say this place has a really neat feel to it, lots of old rock and grateful dead memorabilia along with good music playing anytime you go.Highly recommend!
This is a cute unique restaurant. The music matches the ambiance. Atmosphere is festive and uplifting, the theme is carried out throughout with seating and place settings.Table setting is vintage with smurf and ET glasses. The berry mimosa was light, fresh and delicious. They were out of shrimp so no shrimp and grits. The chicken pesto quesadilla was missing items on the plate. Yet it was fresh tasting and distinctly flavored. The Belgian waffle was stuffed with seasoned chicken with a raspberry drizzle.along with a seeker of chicken. What a wonderful twist to what can be a tired dish. BLT was the winner at the table. With fresh garden lettuce, tomato, artisan bread lightly toasted and big fried yummy home style bacon. Our table shared hand cut fries that were perfectly fried and not greasy, these came with Siri hi and ketchup dipping sauce.Attentive waitstaff, they were excited about the restaurant offered background. all served was exceptionally well done.
AMAZING! This place is a serious hidden gem! The wait staff went above and beyond!
First, let me say the food is delicious, creative, and unique. Ive been there three times now, and without fail, when we received food, it was fantastic. Thats where the compliments end. This week is restaurant week in Fredericksburg, where participating restaurants offer fixed price menus, and with that comes crowds. So far, so good. Dont blame the restaurants for increased crowds, thats a good thing.Where the restaurant got sideways was after we had waited for about 30 minutes, wife and I decide to go somewhere else. As were on the sidewalk, the chef comes out the door, he apologizes. Thats the point where he should have stopped talking, go back inside, and cater to the customers still there. Instead he barks about having reservations on a weekend and customers should know better. If thats your policy, post it. Folks, this is about delivery- not what you said but how you said it. If he had apologized and made an excuse (true or not) he wouldve been fine. Instead. cookie decides to get belligerent. We gladly went and spent our money somewhere else.
Delicious food and fantastic service! A little pricey for some of the entrees but well worth it. If you know Dark Star then you will love the decor. If you dont know, its still pretty cool.
Wow! The blackberry sauce for the steak was reason enough to go! My only negative comment is about dessert, and its actually very minor. It is all dairy, and Im lactose intolerant. Not really a big deal, with an all inclusive meal unless its the only option. But the wonderful Chef is going to honor my paid dessert on my next visit, and have something else for me.
Best biscuits and gravy in the burg. One of my new favorite spots to eat. The owner/chef is doing it right at this establishment. All fresh ingredients. The fresh smoothies are the best I’ve ever had.
Didn’t have their normal menu, only yesterday’s Valentine’s Day menu. Only had one appetizer and three entrees to choose from. They did not tell us how much these items were. Filets were great, fish was undercooked. Charged full price for yesterday’s menu. Left feeling like we should have walked away from the beginning due to the circumstances
This place is unbelievably delectable! Whether you are a local or just passing through, DO NOT PASS THIS PLACE UP ! It is a wonderful treat !
Had a great time. Food was delicious. Cant wait to go back
Super healthy fare! Beautiful presentation and very friendly and helpful staff. Well be back.
Went there last evening of restaurant week our first time . Probably will not go back as it was the worst dining experience I have had . The decor and music was cool and different and could have been enjoyable. However they had no co2 for the beer taps and very limited on bottle beer. They were out of many items on the prix fix menu including desserts. They were substituting items without communicating such as cous cous for rissoto and tiny shrimp for scampi. Over priced for mediocre food.
Excellent food and service every single time! Lots of options for everyone!! Meat eaters, vegetarians and vegans! What are you doing with your life if you haven’t eaten here yet?
We checked this place out during restaurant week and although the service was slow we enjoyed the food. We went back for lunch with our 1 year old for a Sunday lunch. When I ordered a burger with “no pink” since I was going to share with my little one, the sweet waitress said “I’m really sorry but the chef only cooks them to just a little over well.” She suggested we pick something else on the menu. My husband and I asked if she could discuss with the chef and she apologetically excused herself. My husband asked to speak with the manager, and the chef came over to our table. We explained what we were ordering and asked if he could be so kind to prepare the burger to our liking and and he says “it’s my right to chose how I cook.” And I said “you would prefer that over having us as customers?” And he says “have a nice day!” Wow. I have never seen such rude behavior in a restaurant in my life! Needless to say we will not be back.
Dark Star has creative, delicious dishes, first class service and the friendliest staff ever! Don’t pass up this awesome local gem!
Stopped here on a whim and was not disappointed! The food was great and when I asked for ranch dressing, the chef whipped it up on the fly! Great service!
Dark Star is a recommended place to go! If you enjoy live music and delicious food, please visit the Dark Star Saloon!
Amazing burger! Water is special filtered, so good. Eclectic atmosphere, friendly fun staff.
Great atmosphere and great food! Chicken and waffle pops and burger was on point. Will definitely be back soon ️
Do not go here. The owner is horrible. See the reply in the photo after I wrote a private message about our experience.Hi, I just wanted to say a few things. I have dined multiple times with you all. Ive shared so many posts and really promoted you all. This was my 4th visit with my 9th and 10th different people Ive brought with me but our first time for diner. We ordered the cheese plate and the menu said it had melons, cherries, cheese, assorted meats and baggett. When we got it it had 4 small slices rye and berries. We asked what the middle meat was and they said cow heart. We all tried it but didnt love the texture. We didnt say anything and just kept eating and drinking. The chef came out and asked if we didnt like it and we were honest that we tried it and it wasnt our style. We did mention that maybe next time let them know there are substitutes when ordering. We were answered with well thats what you get when you come to a family restaurant and not a corporate machine. When we went to order I ordered the fillet. Our waitress said they didnt have it. I then ordered the chicken. Ahe said we dont have it. I asked ok, what do you have today? She said burgers. I said I need a minute. The chef came out to ask what was wrong and I just said, I had ordered the two things that were not available. He seemed irritated with me. Said they told me the menu was changing, which is very much fine but I just think again maybe let people know when things are not available.I just felt like with were a nuisances to be there tonight. I told my friends that this wasnt the norm and that I usually have a wonderful time there. However I did slink away feeling that the the way people were talking to us was very defensive and a little aggressive when we really didnt say anything or complain.I know starting a new restaurant is hard but please be patient with your patrons when things are changing too.Update when I posted on facebook about our service the owner commented and attacked me. All of which are lies and told only because I put a bad reviewYou were drunk ma’am. Your group drank 2 bottles of wine and cussed at me after receiving free food and a discount....I’m VERY confused on where the bad experience came from. You were treated with the most kindness and good service. I should have cut you off after you were cussing and speaking so loud I could hear you outside but I guess that’s my fault. Your only genuine complaint is that we didn’t serve the filet tonight and that’s because we replaced it with a different dish. You’re speaking rude things on an establishment that treated you with more hospitality than ANY other restaurant would ever give someone after being so rude to their waitress.
Nice little place, cool decorations, great atmosphere and super friendly staff. Stop by
Great service & food was excellent - freshly made!!
Eclectic restaurant with delicious food and fun atmosphere!
If you like overpriced food prepared by an amature that comes out nothing like how it was ordered paired with a disinterested wait staff, this is the place for you!$15 for an unseasoned burger on a grocery store bun and half raw fries is quite the deal of you ask me (the diarrhea youll get is free of charge). For only $9 you can get two (2) slices of bacon along with over ripe tomato and wilty lettuce if the burger isnt your speed.Id definitely recommend it to anyone that is seeking a dining experience that will make you say to yourself man, I should have just went to Dennys if I wanted food cooked by drug addicts.
My girlfriend and I each had two glasses of house red and a hamburger. $75. You can attach whatever new age hipster terms to your food that you want. Farm this, organic that...but its still $20 for one hamburger, that took over an hour to get to my table. We were patient though, it was Friday night, not lunch hour. So, if that sounds like your thing, hurry up and go because it probably wont be open in the Spring.
Wow cannot wait until the Grand Opening... Just caught the SYF out of the corner of my eye truckin down the road & found out it was a cafe, had to go taste it out.. My first meal, because it wont be my last, was outrageously full of flavors that complemented the dish as a whole... Atmosphere is amazing & the Service was relaxed while still being thorough... Go check it out for yourself.. Much fortune to you Dark Star!!!
Awesome bar with killer food and chill vide
Excellent food. The staff was extremely friendly.
Great atmosphere good food...love to see small owned joints like this!
Good food. 12 bucks for 2 peices of French toast is a little excessive. I might be back. Good service as well.
Advise Don’t come out of your restaurant and chase your guest down for the full tip to the car when your guest had to be inconvenienced. Your place had major leaks like a water fall when it rained Friday. We had to move our seats, we even help the waitress with putting up punch bowl for the water to go in.We ordered for various things from the waitress but she never gave us. For example lemon aid, only salad no fries etc. Technically we left a $3 tip which obviously they wanted the full 15% plus extra . The chef wanted us to leave $10 more. Technically the tip was $7.80 not $13 but I assumed they really needed the money hopefully to fix the leaks and get rid of the any possible mold? No compensation for us getting wet from the running rain coming inside n running down the walls. Yes they apologized but to still expect a $13 tip and a free desert next time was not getting it. We will not be coming back and will be telling our friends. The other customer told the waitress (Blonde hair) that they will have mold in the wall if not addressed. All she said was it’s a 250 year old building. SMH. Food over priced but was trying to support a local business.Oh then they ran out of hamburger meat so we had to wait until waitress went and brought more meat but still expected a tip again SMH.
Grand opening was a blast. The saviche is along with the staff
Great food but pricey
Friendly, unique decor, good food.
Good place to eat it will be better if they closed the door and got a AC because flys bug me and they probably bug other people to but my burger was delicious and the girl on her first day was really nice as a waiter everything is good but the AC and the door
Awesome food, funky atmosphere!
Cant rate the food because I wont pay $20 for a hamburger and I cant eat the decor.
