My little girls have loved this place for the last 4 years. We are so sad and disappointed that the Fredericksburg location is now closed. We look forward to making the occasional trip to the Richmond location when it reopens.
Went there for my kindergarten field trip really really nice and I miss the place I’m really sad now it’s closed but I passed by it yesterday
A fun place to take small children (~1-8y), though older children will probably get bored very fast. They have several different play areas and plenty of varied ways to play and learn through social interaction and play. Most kids seem to prefer the play grocery store and restaurant. Theres also some odd stuff but kids dont seem to mind. The day price is a bit expensive for what it is but worth the year membership price.
This activity will keep your toddler or preschooler busy for an hour or 2. Located in a strip mall, its an unusual location makes it appear less of Museum and more of a play place. This is one of four of the hands on play museums of Childrens Museum of Richmond. There are play areas; grocery, diner, bank, dentist, construction, art & crafts and a few others. Its all located in one giant room so it loses some of the fun exploration experience that you get with a regular museum. Just like the main museum in Richmond, it could use more play items and more staff to be constantly cleaning and reorganizing. You do have to wear wrist bands after you pay your entrance. Id like to see some safety by band markings that when you leave the staff knows the child belongs to you.
If you have young children (or maybe grand children) this is an awesome place to take them. There are multiple things to look at and touch. Plus as they watch the other children interacting with the exhibits, they come up with new ideas about what they can do also....go as often as you can while they are young. Eventually they will get tired but by then you can find a new favorite place for them. Enjoy!!
Nice big open space with lots of small areas for pretend play. My youngest (2) loved shopping in the grocery store. My oldest (5) loved climbing the utility pole and the tower of tires. Art section has plenty of craft supplies for kids to make their own creations. Snack area is available for if (when) the kids get hungry. Gift shop has decent prices. Wall in the middle makes it hard for parents to just sit in one place and keep an eye on their kids. Worth the membership price if you can also make it to the one in downtown Richmond. Otherwise, fine occasional treat.
Went today....dont really understand why they charge parent/Grandparent!!!And...had to ask a few times about where the red balls where...... still NO helpComplained about the hangerchiefs that you put in the pipes ( old and kept getting tangled up )..Asked where the paper was in the art room to use for painting,drawing,coloring...was told they where OUT OF PAPER...
I have a membership that is about $120 for the year. If you are local, it is so worth it because it is very entertaining for the kids. There are mini stores like a bank, a grocery store, a theater, a dentist office, a little nursery for babies, a tire shop, an art section and a place to enjoy low cost snacks or bring your own from home. The price of a day pass is $9 per person over two if you do not have the membership.
Not the best value for a one day visit. The kid still enjoyed it though. Its probably great if you are local but it isnt really worth a long trip for the price if you have better, closer options.
I had my daughters 3rd birthday party here and I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. Even without an actual party host, the party ran smoothly within the given time frame. The party room we were in was a perfect size for our group of 15 people. They have a bigger room thats available as well. The museum is a little small but it was perfect for my daughters age group.
This place is amazing for kids all ages, I will like to state that corporate or who ever handles the website should specify “Downtown” as in fact Downtown Richmond it can become extremely confusing for us who live in the Fredericksburg area with also a “Downtown Fredericksburg” I will also like to point out on the website that it should specify that the “carousel or bounce house add on” is in fact at their “Downtown Richmond” location & that the Fredericksburg location don’t have it. Overall this is great for kids!Come on corporate make it easier for us ️Love mom.
Great place for the little ones. My 2 year old had a blast exploring while my 11 year old loved doing work at the art station.
The childrens museum is a great place to spend an afternoon. Plenty of hands on learning activities for children to do! From cars they can play in to learning about construction, even a tire pile for them to climb on. Every time we have gone my kids have left absolutely exhausted.
My therapy dog and I visit bi monthly for Special Nights for Special Needs. The museum provides a great environment for these children to experience a unique array of things. Great place for all kids.
Small museum. Kept my almost 3 year old busy for about 90 minutes. Her favorite activity was climbing the pile of tires. They also have a nice little arts and crafts area.
Fun for our kids aged 6 and 7. Plenty to see and do. Good for at least one hour, probably two.
2020-02-08 attended a 5 year old cousins birthday party at this museum. Very nice people working at the front desk. Rooms available for groups having birthday parties. We were in room 1. Plenty of things for children to do. Grocery store, kids can shop, dress up like they are the cashier or employee, stocking shelves, basket and shopping cart on wheels, so kids can be like customers, pick things off the the shelves or fruit and vegetables, checkout, act like youre swiping your card to pay. A play area for 2 years old and younger. An area where tires are arranged, so kids can climb the tires. A wall that have digital circles that kids can turn the circles and the circles light up. Some type of machine that allows kids to turn a wheel and balls are carried up a plastic tube and then the balls go down into something similar to a pinball machine. A room that allows kids to grab a tooth brush and brush someones teeth / mouth on the counter and someone laying down on the chair and kids can be the dentist and act like they are cleaning someones teeth. Men, women and family restrooms. Some other things to do for children. Plenty of parking in the shopping outlets where childrens museum is located.
Great place for young children. My boys (4 and 6) had a blast and didnt want to leave. They give the adults an armband that way you can leave and get food or do something else and come back later the same day. Definitely going back soon.
The place itself was great, the rating is a result of having to pay for 4 adults when we only had 2 children in the group. A total of 6 people but only 2 were children, one was less than a year old and the other a year and a half old. 5 of the 6 in the group were charged for. Disappointed in that since we came from Potomac Mills to Fredericksburg to do something different. Other than that its a very creative place.
My son really enjoys it. Biggest attraction is this car. Couldnt get him out of it for over an hour. $9 a person or $140 a year for the whole family.
Nice enough, but it is quite small. Several portions also were also a bit underwhelming. For example, the digging area had approx 1/2 cm of sparely spread crushed stone. Kids had fun, but we only stayed an hour tops.
Its the same style as their excellent Richmond location but not nearly as much there. Maybe 1/4th the size. I had a membership with other place so I got in free, but if Id paid the Richmond admissions fees for this much smaller location Id be disappointed. Id recommend their Richmond location instead.
Kids have a ton of energy and the weather outside is not so great? take them here. Perfect place to bring a child ages 4-9 to come and play. Plenty for a younger child to do and learn.
Great place to bring an almost 2 year old. Bigger than it looks from the outside, and several different areas to explore. I highly recommend going right when they open to avoid late morning crowds!
Super fun place for kids to play
Great place to let kids safely burn off energy and learn while they are doing it.
This location has recently been slightly revamped with a few new exhibits, including a really neat light up wall that has circular lights that change color as you twist them.My biggest complaint is that kids tend to throw the rubber sand out of the dig pit and often times parents dont stop them from doing so. This resulted in the pit being virtually empty, with nothing left to dig around in. They recently refilled it though. We do love spending time here, and the membership has been wonderful. This location is smaller than the main Richmond location, but still entertaining for the little ones. The perk of this location is it never seems to be too busy!
Really wish you had more fun things at this location. Unfortunately just another light down theres a better place with more activities and a lot less money.
I took my 1.5 year old on a rainy day, and assumed it would mostly be too older-kid focused for him but we could people watch. I was totally wrong, he enjoyed almost every exhibit and stayed engaged for two full hours. It’s a little pricey for what it is, but a great choice for a toddler with energy to burn.
Saw this on line. Was looking for a fun educational place to take Grandkids. They had a terrific time and so did we. Joined as family for the year, well worth it.
Hot outside? Near this place? You and your children will like the place. For one visit it is interesting for everybody, for many visits - it depends on your childrens preferences.
My 2 and 4 yo loved it. Perfect place for small children. A little pricey ($9 anyone) if you wanted to go on a more regular basis.
Fredericksburg location, good idea but poor upkeep. Needs a deep cleaning.... Pretty small and not worth paying for adults to come in.Came back again today at the kids request... Today the bathroom and some of the main area smelled strongly of mildew/mold. My kid asked me to cover his nose while he used the bathroom There was a lady walking around with a mop and broom, not sure why tho.
Fun for preschool age children but charging the adults is an issue. It would be worth going more often with my toddler but adults are charged full price and with my parents, my son and myself its almost $40 and there is nothing the adults can do to justify charging them admission.
I was told it’s smaller than the one in Richmond, but it was nevertheless great. Our 3-year-old son enjoyed it while we stopped on our way to Washington. I love the concept that it’s divided into different rooms. There’s a similar indoor playground in Alameda, CA, but this one offers more variety and technology, which makes it the best playground I’ve seen so far. Also I like it more than kids museums visited in CA. I wish it was closer to our home!
Could use more for kids to do, especially for the cost. Annual membership is worth it, though not cheap. I’ve heard the one in Richmond is much nicer and larger, but haven’t been there personally. This one is in a strip mall. Keep a close eye on your kids, when the after school groups get there on a bus they really take the place over, and there aren’t nearly enough adults to keep the kids from running over smaller ones, and I’ve had to pick my little one up off the floor more than a couple times due to a much much larger kid knocking them over as they run wild. The staff tries to keep the running down and it’s never seemed intentional, but if you can attend when it’s not as busy, or when a school group isn’t there, it’s a much better experience. Just be aware that they charge for kids and adults too, which was an unexpected cost. Many of the displays are often missing critical parts (balls, for example), so it can sometimes be a frustrating visit until they replace the items another time.
Just dont waste your time or money everything is run down amd falling apart and a dirty mess we got a refund.
Its great for kids however it is very small, outdated and not the cleanest place. I know kids arent always clean, im talking about the major dust bunnies in the corners and bathrooms looking like they havent been touched in weeks.
Expensive for what you get. Lots of the items appear to be missing pieces or are otherwise broken/dirty.
More like an indoor playground than a museum. A place for the children to play and paint. Intended for very young children.
This place needs some serious updating. Things are broken, rooms, like the bank seem to be completely missing items, and yet we paid $36 for four of us to come. The art center was sad, worn down supplies and no one running it. After going to the children’s museum in Richmond, on Broad Street, this doesn’t compare at all! It should be free for adults for what little they have.
The museum has multiple small play areas that really help kids use their imaginations while also teaching life skills. There is a separate area just for kids under 3 which allows the younger kids to go at their own pace. The staff is friendly and do a great job!
Been there a few times with my son and the place is a lot of fun. We he staff is well enough and the place is a great concept. Just needs to minor repairs and kept a cleaner it would be a 5Star repair
Great place and great staff!
Not a bad place to keep little ones busy for a couple of hours.
Overpriced but my baby loves it
Lots of choices, clean and fun. Price is too high but would go again because my kids liked it.
Its a great place with so many things to do and wonderful staff. I just feel that something is missing to even make this place whole. Space is great but remain unsure about what is the extra thing needed to make the Museum stand out
Over priced to be this small. Lacking the ability to interact. A lot of stuff is broken and mixed. Looks like it has never been swept. Everything is very well used. Definitely not worth the hour drive we made here. The museum in Richmond is updated and way more interactive.
Im older, and I go with my mom and two younger siblings. We all absolutely love it there! I love to go into the grocery store and buy things. I also love going to the restaurant and serving my mom. Its almost fun no matter what your age. Everything is very hands on and interactive.
It was nice . Small but good for my daughter age. Needs few more stuff. Bigger kids there werent supervised and kind of scared her.
Went back after a couple years and everything is still the same but in WORSE condition!!! This place definitely needs an update and deep cleaning. Also charges for adults too?! Definitely not worth it.
A nice place to take the little ones but there werent enough activities to interest my 8 year old
I have an annual pass and this place is great for kids to just run around and just have fun learning by doing. Great staff and I live the dress up and pretend areas. My kids love the arts and crafts area where they can paint
1st being there. Will definitely reccomend. Kids enjoyed all the fun activities. A+ for all the educational content
Best for kids aged 2-8.It was pretty underwhelming. Probably, if they charged $4 each, then it would have been totally worth it. It does not stand up to Childrens Museum expectations, but the kids still seemed to busy themselves for hours.
I dont see how its educational for children? This place is NOT worth the amount of money they charge. The painting area was unsupervise and was filthy. The children looked loss and confused. It was like one big closet. My child was bored and the staff was scarce and those that were there seemed ticked off when asked any questions. I would highly recommend if you want to take your child to a fun place either go to Funland or Chuck E cheese.
Is nice but is very small
Visit the one downtown: great GREAT!..easy parking, you can reenter after lunch. Perfect for a rainy day.
Kids seem to love it. You can bring outside food there which is a plus.
I remember my dad bringing me to this place. It was a memorable time he always expose me to different kind of places, I consider this place as one of the historic place in the area.
Great experience for my kindergartener. She had a ball and it was educational as well.
My son loved this. I enjoyed it too.
Very nice. Kids can run around and use their imagination in interactive activities
Great place for kids to play together and for adults to watch and play along.
Awesome and fun place for the kids so I joined for one year!
It was fun. Kids loved the mini grocery store.
Four stars .. well because when its cold outside and your kids need a place to play outside of the house, there isnt a whole lot in Fredericksburg. Mainly my kids like going there because they can play with other kids. I like going because I can read my book and my kids are having a good time! Staff is always pleasant and restrooms are clean!
We brought my five year old twin boys 7 year old niece and two and three-year-old nephews they had fun for probably about 10 minutes the museum leaves a lot to be desired
This is a great museum to take your small children to. Not really a place for tweens and teens
Bring my niece at this place as my late present for her 4th year birthday and she have fun. I guess it does not matter if the place was small or anything as long as the kid was satisfied, by the way clean space.
Way overpriced and not much to do. The main attractions are a pile of tires and an actual Pontiac parked on the floor. There was also an art table in the corner and a few few rooms with different themes (dentist, grocery store, etc). It definitely wasnt worth the cost of admission. It would have been cheaper and more fun for everybody to go to the park.
Nice activities for children of all ages. However, the toys that the kids play with need a good cleaning.
We had our sons 3rd birthday party here. The room was great, the staff was very helpful and friendly, and all of the kids had an amazing time. I would highly recommend!
My kids love this place. There is a lot of learning mixed with fun. There is also the ability for kids to interact with each other to learn team work and how to take turns. All of these are important social skills for later in life.
Excellent space for kids!
Okay, nice friendly museum, but very small and limited.
Cool for the kids but kinda pricey
Great for a rainy day and little kids
Not even half as good or big as the Richmond one but same price. Doesnt make sense.
Great place, lots to do, not too crowded!
This location pales in comparison to itsain location in Richmond, but still the same price. If you have a child over 3, its a bit borning
It was great, but wow is it loud. We (unintentionally) went on a free day and it was packed! But 2 hours in the kids were exhausted, and they deemed it a success!
A great spot to take younger kids for a break from the summer heat. Its a smaller childrens museum, but the inside was very nice and clean. There was definitely enough to keep my 4 year old entertained for a couple of hours. I appreciated the 2 and under child area for my 10 month old.
Really fun spot! There are some really clever exhibits in here, like a play grocery store, bank, and dentist. There is also a section for infants, which is great when youre taking all the kids.
We were on a long drive and looked up a place to take the kiddos on a break. The plan was to stop at the Richmond location. I wish we would have. I would not have stopped at this Fredericksburg location had I known what it would look like. First, The equipment is old, run down, and I am pretty sure has never been cleaned. Its filthy! I couldnt let my littlest guy play with anything or be down on the ground, even in the baby section. Second, its over-priced since you have to pay for children and adults. The three tiny rooms dont allow for you to even play/interact with your child though, so Im not sure why theres a charge for adults. Bottom line, I dont recommend. The only positive was the snacks were reasonable, both healthy and affordable.
The kids had a lot of fun.
Great place to bring the littles to get some energy out while flexing their intellect and practicing social interactions (like sharing!)...We have a great time EVERY visit. The staff rocks.
This is a great place to take the kids and grandkids. They have both a household membership and a grandparent membership. The membership includes all 4 of their locations. Kids use their imaginations and get exercise. Wall graphics educate parents on child development.
Kids had a great time but I wish it was cleaner. Needs to have access to wipes to clean toys and the art area needs to be maintained/cleaned throughout the day.
Great place for bday parties or a cool place to hang with the little ones. This satellite branch is geared more towards the younger kids then the main one in Richmond. This was is great though for the younger kids.
