Great city park that host a multitude of types of outdoor activities! A playground, the nature center, tennis courts, basketball courts and so much more! As a runner Id love to see the closed golf course changed into a running track thats striped with lines for the running community!
Love this park.. Golf course is really nice I hear. I dont golf lol.. Nature trails and more lots to do!!
Beautiful, clean park and family friendly.
Wesselman Park is a beautiful place to walk, picnic, or grill.
The Nature Playscape is a great place to take the kids for an afternoon of summertime fun. Our grandkids loved it. One thing that is seriously needed is new and better signage with directions to the Playscape. We encountered several lost families in the woods trying to find it after missing a sign. Good times.
Went to walk the circle and the sewage smell made us cut the walk short. It was awful!
Beautiful day at Wesselman Park
Very nice shaded place for a walk
We went to check out the new nature playscape. My kids had a blast! Ive enjoyed hiking their trails and bird watching since I was little. But the new play area make it ok for my kids to run a little wild, build forts, and get dirty. They got to see and follow lizards and bugs, dig holes, splash in water, climb on rocks, and generally explore nature. It was completely worth the entrance fee of $5 per adult and $3 per kid to go!
Virgin Forest, 200 acres!
Very well kept.
This was once the goto place for parks in Evansville. The nature trails were amazing. They have now since added a poot tax. 5.00 per person to walk through the woods. How sad. As kids and young adults we would walk these trails a few times a week. Now it cost to walk in the woods. The trails are now run down and disrepair. The nice old wooden signs are replaced with dull plastic ones. The deck of the wood on the wood foot paths is broken, rotten, and so moldy its slick to walk on. But hey they are getting five bucks a head now! Like many things this park is left to rot as people pocket tax dollars and now low income cant even walk in the woods without a fee. Just sad.
This is a newly remodeled facility that houses animals, insects, and reptiles in a unique family friendly atmosphere. They have a bird viewing area inside as well with tours and other great things to do while you are there. They are best known for their walking trails and recycling center. It is in the back area of a larger park that makes a great weekend destination.
Great quick getaway for all ages. You wont believe such a big piece of nature so close to town. Bring a lunch and count how many species of birds you can see from the bird room inside the nature center. Sit behind panoramic, one-way windows and relax while the birds and other critters act as if you arent there! Thats one of my favorite memories of my little girl.
Its a great place to hike or jog in the woods. The trails are beautiful and there are several boardwalks to help alleviate the often mucky terrain. The only downside, in my opinion, is the area is really muddy more than half of the time and several parts of the trail become nearly impassable. The standing water is prime breeding grounds for mosquitoes...so if youre jogging, hey...youll be motivated to keep moving. Odonata Pond is beautiful. My red-eared slider Gizmo lives there.
Trails are treacherous. No wildlife. No waterfall. My 3 year old grandson said this place is horrible mamaw. I wish we had saved the money and just went to a park.
Become a member! Youll save and get to enjoy events all year long. Definitely take the kids! Awesome learning experiences and outdoor opportunities.
There are two things we look for when we travel. 1) Brewhouses and 2) Parks. We found both in Evansville, and Wesselman Woods is an amazing place, even though our visit was cut short. Its a bit off the beaten path, as you have to go through a residential area and then past another park/sports complex, but its worth the drive. The parking area is next to a community recycling center, which I think is appropriate because anything thats returned there isnt getting put in a landfill or thrown out into the wilderness. When you enter the park there is a heavily-treed path you follow to the Visitors Center. For being located near a large city youd think that the park would be pretty open...exposed....but thats not the case. This park is SO green and you cant even tell where the Visitors Center is until youre almost directly in front of it.That Visitors Center has quite a few displays (plant and animal) for you to peruse before you go out into the wilderness. The part I liked the best was the curved display that looked out onto an area that a variety of birds frequent, along with informational plaques. I could have spent hours in that room alone. The cost to walk the trails is $5 per person. We were advised that we should apply some mosquito repellent because it had rained pretty heavily during the previous couple of days and, as a result, the mosquitoes were pretty thick. Well, Im here to tell you, the mosquitoes were pretty thick doesnt even come close to describing the density of the mosquito population that day.Nowhere Near. What started out as about a 1½ to 2 mile walk turned into a quickly paced just-short-of-a-run 20 minute journey through what Im going to call the Mosquito Jungle. These little buggers werent just everywhere, they were EVERYWHERE, including places they shouldnt/didnt have the right /I never gave them permission for. It was crazy. We spent more time swatting these bastages than we did anything else. My wife and I took turns covering each others back. While we DID apply more than enough repellent, these were the most defiant insects Id ever seen. They were flocking to us like pre-pubescent teen to a Justin Bieber concert, and all we did was walk through the door. What we were able to see of the nature preserve was beautiful. The trails are very clearly marked and directional signs are never too far out of sight (which came in handy as we tried to frantically find out way back to non-mosquito-infected territory), and the trails themselves were very well maintained. The next time were in Evansville we plan visiting again (hopefully NOT after a monsoon) so we can take our time to better enjoy the plant and wildlife without being attacked. It really is a beautiful place.
Have been coming here for twenty five years and it keeps getting better. A wonderful place to enjoy the natural world and chill or get active and play!
There was a time we never had to pay to see our nature but now my daughter to me there for my birthday because ive always loved the beauty an peace but found out it was $5 to enter i was going to enjoy my little grandson and his mother with me but after that i was not going to let her pay that price when she has 5 other children she has to take care of an she does a wonderful job but they were n school so please tell me y whe i used to walk n an enjoy the nature around that didnt cost a thing. There are people out the who cant afford it but u seem greedy enough to take wat is not yours do u rememer the indians were here first so do something about it dont take wat is not yours!!!!!!
Very nice place to take hikes... Very soothing and relaxing.
Love the nature study the nature walk the park the benches the atmosphere love the fact that most of Evansville comes here to walk not so crazy about the fact that theyre charging $5 for now for the nature walk but I can see why its worth it
I just sent two Osprey photos I took last Wednesday at Howell Wetlands.I really enjoy spending time there with my camera!
The fee to walk in the woods is absurd. I would rather they did nothing to the nature trails and allowed people to enjoy them for free, like it was forever.
Great place if you can get there when they are open.
Great Park and outdoor hiking area has a nice playground
Always a place to stop and enjoy nature.
The trail for my bike was amazing
Burdette Park has a trail goes all the way to USI dogs are allowed
Lots of wildlife, this is a very cool experience
Very interesting and great to visit
I hate that it isnt free anymore, but its also been improved enough to justify the (small) fee.
What is there to look at? lol
