This place was really cool! Very informative! The walk is a little long, but you have three options for how much you want to walk. The exhibit inside is cool, but when one of the statues started talking, I jumped! It was hilarious!
Take a step back in time. Visit Angel Mound and explore ancient people, their ways of living, and methods of protection. Its worth the price of admission.
Great place to spend some time chilling with family over the holiday weekend.
Fascinating place, which I happened upon while taking the long way out of Evansville. Worth the stop, for an education and a place for quiet reflection.
Great for walks and exercise outdoors - the museum is also fantastic.Disc golf course is confusing and hard to follow, even with a map we were lost multiple times. That aspect needs some work.
Nice museum alot Bigger than I expected.Really cool lifelike indians & a village inside. You learn alot really neat. The area outside is very large. My only thing they could do more out there.Maybe make it look more like it did back then?
Interesting piece of history and low prices at the gift shop
Nice place to take your kids and show son indian history
EXCITING PLACE TO GO, ATMOSPHERE IS WHATS NEEDED
Great place for the Run with the Yeti!
Gorgeous trails for casual afternoon hiking
Poorly marked trail, was unable to effectively see all the mounds due to them not being well marked and the map provided was useless. They do not allow pets due to it being a national historic site. The museum was well done and interesting.
Got to enjoy again after several years. I used to come here from South Carolina to attend our native American Indians. They were back this weekend 09/21/ 09/22 2019. Hope that it gets back to the way it once was. There is a lot of history at this place. Would advise anyone to visit take your children grandchildren to teach and show them the historical wonders of this land.
Totally awesome visit! Keep in mind that this is a large area and is a historical site. You will have to use your imagination and picture this site will thousands of people and buildings that arent standing anymore. If you are interested in history, archeology, and the history of the REAL early Americans then you will love this place. I found it fascinating!
I visited this site in 1993, and I was impressed and them are the same huts. And I bought a Indian Cookbook and that was Awesome.
I it iss a great place if I would have had this for history I woul. Like it better
This was a nice place to get out and stretch your legs. Well maintained paths for kids to play and get out some energy. I just really wish there had been more information on who the Mississippians were. And it would have been much more helpful to have markers at every mound so you knew where you were out there or a better detailed map at the front desk.
Excellent!!! Interpretive Center has everything we want to know exhibited in colorful relatable styles for every learning method.Thank You!
Its a nice experience. There really isnt a lot to see there. But, what there is, is very nicely presented. I think it is worth a trip.
I was here over Memorial Day weekend, and really enjoyed looking through the museum and walking around out near the mounds. There seems to be less fanfare here than at Cahokia (another ancient Native American community, near Edwardsville, IL), but the sites are equally impressive. I especially liked that we pretty much had the entire place to ourselves.
Very interesting! The walk was very hot this time of year but very neat. They closed the gift shop five minutes before five so I couldnt shop. But, it was very interesting historical site.
What an amazing gem in Newburgh! So grateful for the events they have and the history that is shared!
Was nice to see the exhibits, kiddo loved looking at the different scenes they showed. He was a bit disappointed that some of the interactive parts were either not working, lights were not working, or just missing in general. He particularly liked the canoe- they encourage kids to sit in it while you ask guided questions- he thought that was cool. Its a bit small, but good for an hour or two to get the kids out of the car, having fun, and learning a little too. My only hmm... moment was when walking through the exhibit the lights kept dimming & brightening, which, when dim made it difficult to read.Kid also loved the summer house exhibit; like the canoe, it is encouraged to sit on the bench and compare/contrast it to todays bed, house, and furniture. Then outside we went to look at the reconstructed stockade, hut, and round house. The trails were not obvious to me, as this was the first time weve been there, but locals seemed to know exactly where the trails were. We didnt follow the whole trail since kiddo got bored after we saw the 3 outside structures. They have a small gift shop, and we happened to be there during an art exhibit where the proceeds go towards the sites needed repairs & monetary needs. We bought a small pumpkin painting- which surprised me because I assumed the prices would be high and the works of art would be large. But the painting was $15, which was reasonable and I felt pleased that the average Joe could buy a piece of artwork. It wasnt exclusively geared towards patronage who have $ to spend. So that was nice! The price of admission was a little high, I thought, but for a one-time visit, it was fine.Overall, Id recommend this if you have kids 4th grade or older. Mine was a little too young to really appreciate things (2nd grade), and didnt quite want to listen to all the information Id been reading aloud to him. This would be a good place for older teens/adults to a) learn some native/local history and b) take a walk outside along one of their 3 trails- 2k, 3k, & 5k respectively.
The Grand Mound is impressive and the overall facility is very well taken care of. Was particularly impressed by the interpretive center and how much info it had.
Museum was great. Remarkable place to imagine the lost history of this continent!
I have seen more Deer here sooooooooo many times ive seen otters and beavers snakes turtles. So much wildlife thrive at Angel Mounds i can see why the indians thrived so well there along the ohio river its just an amazing place. Theres several spots to park i suggest going to the boat ramp parking and hiking the trail along the ohio river! If you have never been in the actual building you should pay it a visit they have so much Indian stuff you need to see to understand!
Went on a nature walk. I saw some deer very close it was amazing. I love walking the wood trails its so peaceful and relaxing. My family has been going there for years. Nice place to be if you like nature
Great place to Visit. Love day of the Dead celebration. Trails could be a little better kept, River trail not overly bike friendly.
This sacred land is being used in such a disrespectful way. I decided not to go into the museum after seeing a commercial corn field & a disc golf course at the entry to the site. I wanted to cry. DO NOT spend money here until the areas First Nations peoples are given a larger role in the management of the land.
Good place to hold and watch a college cross country meet.
Beautiful place. Ran on the side of the hikking trail. Its uneven badly in some spots. If you jog watch your foot placement. Quiet and relaxing.
Good ramp but very unclean facilities
Great place to visit...learn ABOUT early Indian culture..
Interesting history.
Its ok for a few hours. The mounds are pretty much in an open field. Not terribly interesting. The museum will give you a glimpse into local historical culture. I would certainly recommend visiting once. I dont think youll be going more than that Unless you are there to play frisbee golf.
Great location. Cool place to visit.
I recommend for history buffs. Very good museum. Visiting the mounds can be an issue if there has been rain or it is very hot. Both make for an unpleasant visit as there is a lot of hiking involved. The museum will make up for missing the mounds if weather is against you. Very well done. Not a very busy place either so you can take your time and enjoy.
This place is a marvel to my history buff brother. I am not nearly on his level and I can still appreciate this place. You can tell funding has been rocky and not very many people go here. It is definitely their loss. The front of the park is used for motorbikes, family picnics, and dog walking. The store has lots of books and Native American goods that I am used to seeing in New Mexico.
This site has so much history for our area. Not the typical Hollywood version of how the Native Americans lived in this area. They also have alot of events throughout the year. I like to attend the Highland.games and Native American days plus many others.
Clean facility, museum is nice, walking the grounds is great.
The people here are very nice and I enjoyed walking around here.

Beautiful 2 mile walk around ancient Indian Village.
Interesting place of importance historical significance. It is an interesting place that has many pieces of Native American culture. Visitor center is extremely informative and the grounds offer close up views of several undisturbed mounds that give perspective on what Native Culture would have been like. Recommended for all history fans of Native American life in the Pre-Columbian era.
Really beautiful place, the museum section was very informative, there is plenty of walking to be had outside and great views but not much else
I got to the park about 4:00.I enjoyed the museum.Tomorrow I will walk the trails and check out the mounds.
Went to see the Indian tribe dancers and their culture. Had a great time
Beautiful place
We had a fantastic tour guide and experience at this State Historic Site. Did you know?! If you are a member of Indiana State Museum you can get into Indianas Historic Sites for free
Great piece of history in our back yard
Lots of interactive stations, incredible dioramas and fascinating history.
Good museum. Worth a stop.
I spent time here and loved it
Had a good educational visit with my kids. Trails could have been a little better marked.
Nice trip to nowhere but still I like to make the trip.
Everyone should visit historical and beautiful
A mixture of state, local, and private places with a little something for every nature lover.
This was a great place for the family to get out or the car, stretch our legs, and eat some lunch. The exhibits are well-used, but you can tell they care about the information and replace what they can as necessary. Outside, there is the choice between leisurely 1km, 2km, and 3km walks between the mounds. A good stop!
Great hikes and excellent sure in general
Great atmosphere for a cross country race.
Great place! Beautiful indoor and outdoor spaces. Lots of neat installations with recreated scenes from the Native Americans who came before.
Great place to hike and check out the mounds.
This is an beautiful place and an must see if your in Evansville
Love the experience and the Historical Events and Museum with artifacts
Theres a lot to do here--a great place to visit if youre in the neighboorhood. Theres disc golf, too. Heads-up, though. Im pretty sure theyre selling lost and found discs at retail price in the gift shop. The guy working told me he think theyre new. Theyre clearly used--this I find hilarious. If you leave your disc, its your fault. Just keep in mind, you might be able to buy it back at a premium later on!
Again, went here as part of the awesome Museum Wander. Had not been out here in many years. The interpretive center was amazing. Did not go out to the mound sites because it was very hot that day. But there was enough to do and see inside to make it worth the visit. Again spent way to much in the gift shop. Will go back sooner than later. The Museum Wander has been great to reawaken an interest in local attractions.
Remember going on feild trips here in elementary school.. Great piece of history!!
The museum was very informative and the staff was friendly. The descriptions were very well done and I learned a lot. The mounds and grounds are very easy to see and are all within a short walk on the trails.Unfortunately, many of the museum descriptions and information pieces were very difficult to read. The lighting was not very good. I found myself trying to move to the side a lot to get out of my own shadow to read. I spoke with a staff member and she acknowledged the problem. She explained that they were given a grant for LED lighting but they kept overheating and shutting off. She said they were searching for funding to redo all of the lighting and possibly even the 17 year old displays entirely. She said the 11 state historic sites need about a million more per year to maintain what they have. So, buy a souvenir and help em out!
We came for the Halloween festivities. The experience was nice but the wait for the hay rides was excessive, probably at least 60 minutes. We still had a good time though.
Went for the highland games. Not impressed, not organized, and for the price of 10 a piece. Probably wont go back. Expected more about the history. Couldnt hear the speakers tell what was going on and no place to seat and watch but some tables and chair .
Luv luv luv !!!
This is an excellent place for a historical visit.
Nice walking trails the last time I been there tho it has been a few years. Alot to learn and explore as well. Theres plenty to do that I do remember. Packing a lunch for a picnic is a good idea as well.
Been there several times and it always brings a feeling of awe over me. The size of the town or village was surprising, and then the moat and stockade are very impressive. Great place to visit and feel history all around you.
Really pretty there.
It was amazing, I learned a lot.
Its okay. Seemed a little expensive to look at a pile of dirt ... thats just my opinion . The history is amazing and the grounds are kept up.
ALL I CAN SAY IS BEAUTIFUL AND TOUCHES THE HEART LEARNING ABOUT NATIVE AMERICAN CULTURE WHICH IS PART OF MY BELATED ANCESTORS, ALL THE HARD WORK THEY LEFT BEHIND IN AMERICA AND REALLY I FEEL TILL THIS DAY ITS STILL NOT ENOUGH APPRECIATION FOR WHAT ALL THEY HAVE DONE AND BEEN THROUGH, BUT WISH IT WAS MORE PLACES AROUND LIKE ANGEL MOUNDS FOR REMEMBRANCE AND LEARNING PLEASE HAVE MORE IN THE NEAR FUTURE IN INDIANA
I thought that the museum was phenominal, yet the site itself was lacking direction and information at each unique feature. Be prepared for a small fee to walk through the museum and the village, although it is totally worth the cost.
Good museum with educational larp of the history of native americans colonizing in the Angel Mounds region.
This place could be great if UofI would bring back all the Artifacts that Dr. Black took out of the mounds.
It was tight dog! Museum, big field, walking trails and learning new tangs yo. Good place to kill some some time and take my mind off how hard the streets of newburgh are. You would really think there is a lot of crime there judging by the overabundance of police. But there isnt. There is however an overabundance of public funds being wasted in that county
Great tour beautiful site
Very interesting historical information. Nice visual exhibits. Walk the grounds and envision the past settlement.
Great trails! Good for hiking and running. Website is OK. Would like to see better trail maps, both online and maybe posted at the trail heads.
I take my dog here to walk the trails near the boat ramp. She loves coming here and always has a blast; as well as myself! Beautiful place to go to.
Ummmm its ok feom a historical persceptive but there is alot of other thibgs to do
It is a historically important place and educational as well and just a beautiful place to walk and see some of the wildlife...i say thank you to the native Americans for sharing it with is all
This was a great experience! It was spiritual. I went with my blood brother and we could almost feel vibrations from the old ones at this site. If you are any part native you should go to this sacred place. Even if you arent you will enjoy this and learn things also. For native people, you might also want to go by Snake Head mound. Its a protected site on part of the same property that GE chemical plant is on at Mt. Vernon In.Its close by.
Very interesting site. Great place to take the kids.
Great historic site plus trails to walk and a native American burial site and village right in your backyard
I grew up in the lower Ohio River valley and never visited this site. Be prepared to walk and spend a slow day.
