Reverent and blessed. Also, they have a small book to follow along the Latin Mass in English. And they are great about having confession before every Mass. Even evening Mass.

Best and most awesomeness marriage prep classes! Learned so many clear teachings and tools to practice and use in marriage. Canon Stein teaches church teaching clearly and straightforward. He is easy to talk too when having any questions about the faith or any other problem. Come here if you want spiritual and Sacramental nourishment. I leave here always happy and soul satisfied! The awesomenest church!

The Canons of the Institute of Christ the King are without question the most pastoral and dedicated priests we have ever known. The church is almost always open so that you can spend time with Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. And the one thing I found the most amazing is that no matter when you stop by, chances are you will see at least one of the Canons. They are just there, always, ready and willing to be priests and bring the sacraments to those who need them...which is all of us!

Of course beautiful traditional liturgy, which includes a schedule of orchestral Masses during summer and chanted Vespers year round. In addition, conferences, social outings to tigers games and ice skating and more, St Joseph Day celebrations with a procession through Eastern Market, St Joseph gala which is always a blast, Octoberfest, confession available daily, novenas of homilies for St Josephs feast and the Immaculate Conception. Men of St Joseph group, Exodus 90 group.Weekly Mother of Perpetual Help and St Joseph devotions, monthly First Friday and First Saturday devotions. My wife and I moved to Detroit from Texas, and when the time came for a discussion of staying or moving home, Oratory weighed heavily on our decision to stay, because it is such a boon for us as a Catholic family. The Canons have made themselves available for sacramental needs including the baptism of our newborn son when he was still in NICU.

The Oratory has saved the 2nd oldest Catholic parish (within the original borders of Detroit) AND possesses great priests & teachers sharing authentic Catholicism...the best Tridentine Holy Mass celebration in Detroit... and they have a fun-filled Oktoberfest & special celebration in honor of St. Joseph...with a guarded parking lot...Please give a thumbs up if this review helps you - thanks

Absolutely beautiful. Friendly congregation, willing to be of assistance. I attended their Oktoberfest this year and found it quite fun and wholesome; you can bring the entire family. There was a classical music concert inside the sanctuary, and afterwards a tour and a lecture on the history of this historic German parish.

If youre looking for a traditional Latin Mass done beautifully, you cant go wrong with St Joseph! I personally prefer Novus Ordo for its accessibility to the general public, but I can also certainly appreciate the solemnity and grace of a well-done Latin Mass. I also went to confession, and the priest there was fantastic. He gave great advice and reinforcement in a tactful and supportive manner. Even if youre not sure whether youll like it or not, its definitely worth experiencing at least once in your lifetime!

Traveling frequently, I visit and attend Mass at many Catholic Churches around the AOD and several other major US cities: New York, Chicago, San Fran, Tampa, etc. This parish is at the center of the exciting historic renewal. It is well run, welcoming, beautiful, and reverent. The priests are available and helpful. They show a genuine concern for the well-being of each person. I see a wide variety of visitors, all ages and walks of life. This is a true city church with a refreshingly warm community feel. You haven’t fully experienced the renewal in Detroit until you’ve been here.

St. Joseph Oratory is an amazing parish to call our spiritual home. Incredible sacred music program, catechism taught by the priests at all levels, life-changing preaching and conferences, year-round social events which contribute to a wonderful family atmosphere, Mass and confession available every single day, the most beautiful gothic church and liturgy, and so much more. Check it out!

Beautiful church, beautiful sacred liturgy, beautiful sacred music/Chant. Tridentine mass at it finest. Liturgy extremely reverent and solemn. Traditional Catholicism at its finest. For the past couple of years I have assisted at Mass here when I could get a ride. Now that my car has been repaired and is great shape I will become a parishioner. For anyone who has never been to the Tridentine Mass I recommend that you learn a little about it first so that you understand it. Like anything in life...if you dont bring anything to it, you dont get anything out of it. Their Mass booklets are very helpful so be sure and use one (not to keep) and read the explanations if you are new to the Mass of all times. They are at the entrance inside the church proper. This church and Mass is absolutely heavenly and to me is as close to heaven on earth as you can be.

St. Joes is one of the most beautiful churchs in the metropolitan area. Whenever Im showing people from out of town around Detroit, St. Joes is near the top of the list. Its stunningly beautiful inside and out. We havent built churches like this in over 100 years.Go check it out. You will be amazed.PS - You do, however, have to make visitation arrangements in advance. St. Joes hasnt had a full time pastor in many years. There are two priests that rotate through three or four nearby churchs. But, they will try to accommodate you.I know this sounds like a hassle - but, try to work through it. Seeing the inside of this church is worth it.

My fiance and I have made St. Joseph Oratory our home parish. We live 40 miles away and this place is so worth the drive! We are very happy to have found like-believers. Not only is the Mass High Mass, beautiful and sung--the community is striving to live holy Catholic lives through traditional liturgy and holy friendships just as the saints did. My fiance and I feel safe and at home here. We feel confident and comfortable that our future children can be here and make holy relationships that strengthen their relationship with Jesus Christ.

Randomly picked St. Josephs Oratory’s 11am high mass while visiting family in Detroit. Changed my life forever. Cried through the whole mass. Felt like it was my first real Catholic Mass I have ever attended. Detroit is truly Blessed to have this beautiful little piece of Heaven on earth. Very thankful to the devoted people of God that keep traditional parishes like this alive especially in times when our Church is in such disarray with corruption. Thank You! You have renewed my Catholic Faith. I will be looking for a Latin mass when I return home to attend.

I moved to the Detroit area in the winter of 2016, with no knowledge or guidance as to what my new home parish would be. After attending liturgies at several different parishes in my area, I was led to Saint Josephs, without much prior knowledge as to what the experience may be like.I was overcome by several things. First, the architecture and the brilliant beauty of the church itself. Second, the reverence of those present in the sanctuary. Third, the beauty of the liturgy itself. Finally, after the mass, the welcome I received from many, including the priests.I ended up at the parish open skate that same day, surrounded by the most genuinely kind and personable strangers I have ever met. The welcome I received and the support that ensued (now for a year and a half and counting) has been unparalleled. I joined the parish without a second thought, and am so grateful to call this place my home.Pastors Canon Stein and Canon Fehrenbacher are good, holy men, and knowledgeable leaders. It is a huge blessing to be able to go to them for spiritual direction, reconciliation, and other sacraments as well.If you are a Detroit/ Metro Detroit Catholic looking for a home parish that is rich in tradition, beauty, and community, please join us on Sunday at the 9am or 11am liturgy!

A beautiful and enthusiastic spiritual home, my now fiance and I began attending St. Joseph Oratory when the Institute of Christ the King adopted the parish in October of 2016. We have been attending the past two years and it has been an absolutely phenomenal and heart-changing experience to be a part of the traditional Tridentine liturgy. So many wonderful doors have been opened to us thanks to the guidance of our spiritual director, Canon Stein and the patience of our confessor, Canon Fehrenbacher. I cant begin to explain the impact Ive seen in our Detroit community (both religious and non) from seeing two active, holy priests, working to grow the city closer to God.This parish is truly alive in its community and the genuine relationships that have been formed among our parishioners. I would encourage anyone whos ever been curious about the traditional mass or who is searching for a strong spiritual community in the city to attend a Sunday mass (9am and 11am), you will be welcomed with open arms.
