Definitely worth a visitThe State Capitol is definitely worth visiting for a couple of hours . Access is free unless you wish to go to the top of the dome which we decided against as we’d already walked quite a distance in the heat. It is a beautiful building with lots to see especially the large tapestry depicting a timeline of women through Colorado history. There’s also a little cafe in the basement where one can have a drink. I noticed some reviews had comments about being harassed by homeless people in the park outside but we walked through it and, sadly, there were quite a few homeless people about but absolutely nobody bothered us.
Colorados state capital is one of the cooler state capital buildings I have visited. Really great exterior and interior with nice landscape. Everything is really interesting with a bunch of different history all over the building. It is usually open to the public and they do tours throughout the day. If you are in the tour you get to go much higher in the building then just visiting. Cool place!
The Colorado State Capitol Building is a beautiful architectural site to see and tour anytime of the year. The rich history of the state is showcased very well throughout the grounds and building as well as the museum.
Everything was gated and boarded up so I couldnt really enjoy it. It looks nice from outside and Im sure itll look better once its un-gated. There were a lot of homeless people all around the building and just a block away there was a big homeless encampment so that was a shame.
Great educational place! Very detailed history and well maintained. Many interesting things inside of the capital building itself. I recommend the free guided tour to go in detail about the history. Also, try to avoid busy times and school groups. The Senate and House of Representatives chambers were my favorite!! I recommend this place for sure!!!
Visited the Colorado State Capitol on 11/30/2018. It was a great experience. The tour was free and the guide was enthusiastic. The building is beautiful and the history is very interesting. Try to visit on a clear day since the tour finishes on the balcony of the dome and you can have a magnificent view weather permitting.
Janet our tour guide was awesome!!! The General Assembly was in session during our 10am tour. Tour itself was great; mix of the buildings history and how the Senate and legislature work. Tour ending with stairs up to the dome providing 360 views of Denver. Pretty neat!! Would definitely recommend going on this free tour. Thanks Janet!!
Fun, historic, interesting, and free. Explore on your own or take the guided tours. Go up in the dome and step out for a remarkable 360 view of downtown Denver. Great historical site with amazing architecture. Fun for the whole family and again .. its free!
I like to visit state capitols whenever I’m in a new state & although the capitol itself is very beautiful and architecturally appealing, I really didn’t like being downtown with all the homeless camps around.
Beautiful architecture; however, there was a bunch of campers directly outside of building.
The whole building is just beautiful, but there is construction. I was wanting to stand on the 15th step (above sea level) and was unable to at this time due to fencing all around the building.
A historic looking state capital where you can claim to be at a mile high state capital. The building is at close walking distance from the 16th Street Mall.It should be a must visit spot if you’re in the city.
What a beautiful building this is! There is so much detail put into everything and the tour is absolutely worth taking! I was amazed by the view at the top and the fact that you can walk around outside and see the mountains! Too much to list, see my photos!
If I visit a state capital city I always like to visit it capitol. Colorado does not disappoint with its gold encrusted dome. Also, the grounds are nice for walking or jogging. There are cannons and statues as well. Easy on the eyes.
The building looks nice on the outside but the people who work in the inside really drag the whole thing down, polis especially. He sucks.
The tour was very interesting and full of information about the state and capitol. The end of the tour offered great views of Denver!
Beautiful area with vast views of Denver. There are a significant number of homeless people just feet away from the steps and the area is somewhat unsafe.
Beautiful building. Will definitely come back for a guided tour whenever I have enough time in town.
The distinctness of each States’ Capitol building never ceases to amaze me. Colorado’s is no exception with huge, elegant dome stretching into the cloudless blue sky. The officers are security are super helpful not only for instructions at the Capitol but also for recommendations around the city.
The Colorado State Capitol offers a comprehensive free tour of the building. The tour runs about 90 minutes, but you get to see all of the key areas, including the house and senate chambers. The 360 view from the top of the dome provides an incredible long distance view of Denver and the mountains. One star subtracted because the tour guide seemed rather bored with her job, but nonetheless it was a worthwhile visit.
One of the most beautiful capitol buildings I have seen. If you cannot attend a tour which allows you in the dome, a free brochure is helpful as you walk around. The artwork and architecture are stunning.
Free entrance and if time permit, do sign up for the free tour as it allow you entry into the dome. Our tour guide Maddy was excellent and provided interesting fact about the building and some notable person in the history of Denver. I enjoy it more than expected. The staff are helpful and friendly. The interior of the building are majestic and grand, and as a first time visitor to the states, it is also fascinating to learn more about the how the voting procedure is done.
Free! Tour to the top with great view! Worth the venture, and you will explore with or without a tour for awhile. The tours are an hour long, and start on the hour. The tour goes floor by floor and makes it to the top at the end. The top is only accessible by the tour. You are able to access the rest of the building freely.
Took a tour, and it really is a beautiful building. Worth it Id youre nearby.
Fantastic tours. Amazing views on top
Very nice capitol. Enjoyed getting a tour if the interior. The grounds are also nice
This is a beautiful capital building. The inside was amazing to walk through. Unfortunately there was no tour when we came in last week. It was during the week, so not sure what happened there. But security said we were free to walk the building. Would have been nice to get a history lesson on what we were looking at, but it was still great to see.
Always a really nice place to look at no matter where you are in the city
The state capitol building is beautiful, and while one can wander around and see the building, I highly recommend stopping by the visitors desk and taking a tour. The tour took about 45 minutes, and was fantastic! We went from ground floor to the dome (walked around outside). The guide shared lots of things I would have missed. Extremely worthwhile!
I recommend the free tour of the Colorado State Capital at Denver. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and showed us a lot of interesting places in the building. It’s a pretty building with an interesting history and worth the visit. For an older Capitol, it was fairly state-of-the-art. Loved viewing the senate and house chambers and looking at all Presidential portraits from Washington to Trump. Not ADA updated.
Nice looking building, construction going on but no complains about that. The sourrounding park is a bit dirty and ppl throw stuffs here are there, I have seen folks smoking inside the green area which is bad.
We had a really sweet guide. She was very knowledgeable and we had a great time. I was so surprised that the building didnt have that old smell to it and it was well lit. The observation deck is a must see. It was amazing up there. Dont forget the mile high steps as well.
As a voting taxpayer for a good number of years, it was about time to actually visit the capitol, with out of state guests of course. It provides a smaller, more western take on the US Capitol, with access to many interior hallways as well as senate and house chambers. We visited on a working day and saw a number of legislators, who no doubt worked hard to be elected and are well known to the politically connected, as well as the requisite lobbyists and so on. The views are striking and the marble and granite are quite incredible, worth taking a look at as you walk the halls and staircases.
Such a cool stop if youre downtown! It was a little difficult to find the One mile above sea level step, but we found it! Really neat, and just nice to say you stood a mile above sea level.
Lovely building. Lots of CO history.
This is your state Capitol. It is a beautiful, old building, has helpful staff to guide you, and a wonderful attic museum. Book with info desk to get to climb steps to the dome. If you come between January and early May, thats when the legislature is in session, so it is much more active then. Youre welcome to view the legislative action from the gallery of the House and Senate chambers. Visit your legislator to let the person know of issues important to you.
Cool historic building. Underwent restoration a few years ago. Looks gorgeous. Must go through TSA like screening to get into the building. Very informative free tour of the building and its history. Take lots of pictures. There is an information desk at the Colfax entrance. Bathrooms are in the basement.
Cool place to visit. The tour guide was awesome and super informative. Definately worth the stop. The tour is about an hour long and ends at the top observation deck.
We took the free guided tour, which had some interesting history. Our tour guide was not very good though; she stated some incorrect facts (e.g. that Colorado was the first state to grant women the right to vote) and she ended every sentence with so, yeah. I learned more from the pamphlet than from the tour.
Take the free tour, guides are super friendly and knowledgable. Its a great way to learn about the history of the building and the area, as well as get up into the dome at the top of the building. The view is fantastic!
Nice place its amazing i like thats
Great and educational, had an amazing time. They really know how to explain and take your questions well. 10/10 would go again!
I love my state capitol!
Beautiful tour and amazing place to visit. Free for the public Monday - Friday!
Very gold:) good view on the top!
Werent able to take the tour but enjoyed walking through it. Its a beautiful building and very well kept.
Very nice. Plenty of history to see. I recommend the tour guide, that way, you can go up to the top. Friendly staff working here, and even our own senators and congress people are around working. Stop and said hi to my congresswoman. Great to finally meet her.
Usually only come here in summer and at Christmas for their awesome lights. Here today and the wife took a good pic, must share. Got to love Denver.
Beautiful building. Under construction.
There is a tour every hour starting at 10:00 and ending at 3:00. The tour was really informative! We enjoyed our time here a lot. Thank you!
State Capitols are always great and this is one of the nicest weve visited. Dont miss the free tour to learn about the history of Colorado.
Great place to come visit and learn about the capitol of Colorado. Very nice and friendly staff.A must if you come to Denver, CO.
Gorgeous architecture! Even during upgrades, an enjoyable experience. The dome lights up at night even.
Nice building, yet there are lots of homeless people lying and loitering around... pretty sad, actually. They must freeze at night! A retail clerk nearby told me theres not enough room for all of them in the local shelters, and that they seem to keep getting pushed south into the city.
Very nice building, much history, can walk to very top of dome, can see pikes peak from top, not best part of town though
No matter where you are coming into Denver from this beautiful piece of history is worth a visit.
Tours of the Colorado state capitals are free and you get 360 degree views of the city from the top of the state capitol. We really enjoyed this tour and also grabbed a bite at food trucks in the civic park across the capitol building (officially known as Civic Center EATS, Tue Wed and Thur from April 30 to Oct. 10). The state capitol is only 10 mins walk from the Denver Mint so its a good place to kill time before your Denver Mint tour
I had such a great time here with my family! They have lots of really pretty architecture, plus plenty of books and crannies to explore: including an old fashioned telephone booth and a shoe shine stand. It also has a scavenger hunt for all the kids so the whole family can go. Lots of photo opportunities all over and all the staff were so kind and helpful. Warning, there is a lot of stairs to get in, but once you are in there is an elevator. They also offer tours of this building from opening until 3pm. Definitely a fun place to explore!
I mean it’s a good open air homeless shelter from this building to the library
The building deserves five stars. It is a very beautiful capitol, well worth walking through. However, if you try to visit a legislator, they refuse to help you for security reasons. It is literally a policy not to tell people where legislators offices are--but of course all the insiders know. Ive been in about half the state capitols and nowhere else do they do this. (Many have no metal detectors or x-ray machines, and I credit legislators in those states for that now-unusual courage.)
Another way to see this building!
Amazing architecture. Had to grab the mile high pic.
During my Amtrak tour, my hotel is only blocks away from Civic Center. When I visited state Capitol, it is under renovation. So, it is not in her perfect look, however, I still can see the mile high marker in the stairway to witness why Denver is called a mile high city.
Such a wonderful building
Magnificent piece of history offering free, guided, hour long tours M-F 8-5. If youre visiting the area be sure to make time to visit the Capitol.
Cant wait to go inside, so cool to see though.
Excellent tour and shared knowledge. Thank you
Very interesting tour. Knowledgeable tour guides. Climbed the dome for nice views of Denver and mountains.
Beautiful interior, open for exploring, great views from the top, but FYI you can only get into the dome with a tour.
I recommend taking one of the free tours of the building. The tour was very informational, and ends with a beautiful view of downtown from inside of the dome of the building.
Awesome tour. Parking g is not too hard. You can find d street parking ($1 per hour). The tour is free. Its every hour, you just have to sign up for it in the front. The last tour of the day is at 3 pm.
Nice to go and explore. Guide was good.
Beautiful interior with interesting history. I definitely recommend having a visit.
Great place to visit if youre interested in architecture or history. The rose onyx is beautiful. Youll probably have to pay to park (most meters are $1/hour). You can easily walk through the building in an hour. ok
Always a great place to visit for tourists or even if you are a local and want to take some awesome pictures!!! Every time I visit the capital building I always take some pics and of course spin the Pokestops and battle the Gym lol
I just came to see the one mile marker. Since I couldnt find it, I asked the security staff at the entrance. They were very helpful and welcoming. I ended up going into the building itself. I didnt buy a tour and it was still very enjoyable.
The free tour is a great experience. The view from the gold dome up top is amazing.
I enjoyed the friendly staff and the opportunity to relieve my bowels in a clean restroom. The exit and entrance can be a bit taxing depending on which side of the building you’re on and some exits are for employees only. But if you disobey and exit anyways like I did it’s not a big deal.
Actually really enjoyed sitting here. The view was lovely.
Its a nice building. Directly next to Civic Center Park. The mile high step is marked with a small plaque. The only bad thing was that there were a lot of homeless people hanging around the park and made it hard to get good pics. Thats not something I wanna see in my photos looking bacl at my visit to Denvers capital.
Love to be from Colorado. I dont all ways like who is in charge of the state.but its still Colorado and I wouldnt live anywhere else.
Capital of one of the top 5 states in the union.
What a gorgeous old building. You should definitely take the tour and go all the way to the top of the dome. It provides awesome views of the city and all the way out to the Rockies. It is well maintained and the building is a great display of history. Dont pass up a restroom, they are hard to find.
It was a great experience to visit this place. The tour was free and the guide was enthusiastic. The building is beautiful and the history is very interesting.
Beautiful building, Id be glad to go back and walk around again.
Inside is very nice but outside is full of homeless and loitering people hitting you up for cash or to buy things from them. Denver needs to put a stop to loitering because it made taking pictures and enjoying the outside difficult.
Worth a visit. Its free entry btw.
Unfortunately it was fenced off.
No votes for kanye!
Beautiful building full of history. If you come to Denver, this is a must visit location
Truly majestic and magnificent architecture.
Nice park in town.
Excellent free tour of a gorgeous building. The highlight of my visit to Denver.
Be sure to take the official tour (free) inside so you can check out the dome. Great view of Denver from up there. The rose onyx stone used inside (only place in the world that has it) is interesting. Great looking stone work.
For this that like to see period architecture, this is a good opportunity for a free visit. The spaces are superb, the gold leaf covered dome glints in the sunshine (300 days a year apparently) and the historic and contemporary artwork is fascinating.
Best looking capital building in the country.
Denver, you really need to clean up your city, the roads and traffic are horrible and homeless people everywhere. I dont know why anyone would want to move here.
Incredible building and a mandatory stop for visitors. Not too much to do, but worth taking a free walk through.
