Great local hiking trails. When you get deep in the trails you totaly forget your in danbury. Good place for a fairly easy hike
One of the best places in the area to go walking if you’re a dog owner, Bear Mountain Reservation has a system of trails on light hills next to Candlewood Lake. The longest of these is the looping red trail, twisting through open fields and peaceful forest. On this route you’ll come to a junction with the orange trail, which drops down the rather precipitous slope to Candlwood Lake if you need to work those calves.South of the property is FCI Danbury, a low-security federal prison, mainly for female inmates. You may be interested to know that famous conscientious objectors like James Peck and Robert Lowell were imprisoned here in WWII, as was screenwriter Ring Lardner Jr., who was blacklisted in 1947 during the Red Scare.
A place for Good family hike . Both my boys enjoyed the hike and they had good time playing in the water
Pretty nice place except for the abundance of dogs running around off-leash. Signs clearly say dogs must be leashed, but in 2020, who cares about the comfort and safety of others? “The rules don’t apply to me”, say 80% of dog owners. IOther than that, it’s a nice place. Terrain and trails are fairly rocky. They just installed some stationary exercise stations along the beginning of the trail, which are quite nice.
Excellent park for a quick hike or an extensive one for experienced hikers.
Nice trail, well marked and dog friendly.
Love it great place
Love it! Super nice clean and good for kids!
Cute area.
Beautiful, but much steeper and rocky than I expected. Ill Wear good supportive hiking shoes next time I come.
This is a great place to walk my dog. The trails meander through pure nature. It is amazing that this place exists in the midst of a highly populated area. On most of the trails you can not see signs of civilization. Ive been here many times, it calms my soul. Bring your dog.
Great park with many well marked trails. Views of Candlewood Lake. Some steep terrain and mix of meadows and woods.
Great place to go hiking and relax.
Its a pretty good hike! I visited with my sister and we sang along the path, reminiscing and laughing. The hike down towards the lakeside was very rocky but the view is beautiful and peaceful.
Beautiful place and easy parking.
Great trails. Clearly marked. Rocky terrain. Mostly hilly with some meadow.
One of my most travelled trails. Has a nice meadow and access to the lake with a rope swing. There are plenty of back trails to explore, and the main trails often have fellow hikers and people with dogs.
Great place and not too crowded.
Good for some decent hiking, pet friendly and clearly marked trails .. good for once in while kind of thing. Great in summers or right after snowfall. Its beautiful!!!
Nice hiking trails with varying elevation changes depending on the trails selected. Theres also access to Candlewood lack
Great trails and extremely peaceful !!!
Great trail, great experience.
Amazing foliage up and down a narrow hilly area, perfect for a romantic walk through the woods.
Great hiking trails dog loves it!
Neat trail. Clearly labeled with trail markers. Expect some muddy patches unless it hasnt rained in a while. Varies from a wide flat dirt trail, to a single person wide dirt trail, to a rocky trail, to completely rock covered areas with painted markers on the rocks to keep you on track.
Bear Mountain is a great place to hike, especially with dogs. While leash laws are in effect there are many untethered dogs in the park. You can also hike right down to the Lake Candlewood Shore and take a dip!
Very rocky terrain but beautiful.... a couple different trails so take map...... green trail, red trail, blue trail and orange trail ....orange trail leads to the lake and rope swing. Which I found by luck, Im glad to have visited this place with my dog .
Mild trails with decent views
All in all it’s a good park the trails are clearly marked and the grounds for the most part are clear. Only issue is more more people with off leash dogs
Nice wooded peaceful
A nice hike thats pet-friendly. Certainly not the most impressive hike Ive been on, but if you live in the area its a nice place to visit.
Awesome trails.
Private, quiet a good place to journal.
Great Hike!! Be aware that the entrence is 1 min before Buckskin Heights Rd..
Great place to walk dogs been going here since I was a little kid memories that lasted for eternity.
A shady hike, lots of hills and views.
Nice area for hiking/mountain biking that provides access all the way to the water on the New Fairfield side of Candlewood Lake. And theres a very fun rope swing into the water back there, but its a shame that it keeps changing as people continue to cut it down just as it gets broken-in & people get used to how it works.
Great area for some light hiking in Danbury. The orange/red trail led down to the shore of candlewood where you can swim or just look at the water.
Good hiking, always ample parking, trails very well marked, maps available at parking lot, lots of people let their dogs of leash here though, must watch out for landmines on the trails...
I love bear mountain trails they are beautiful
Beautiful open space park with hiking trails
Short but special. Great place to walk with fido.
