I only go there for the farmers market on Fridays. Never been inside the place. Horrible location for a farmers market. Previous spot over by Firestone was much better. I hope they make a change for next year otherwise I think I will be going elsewhere.
If you have even a minor interest, you should visit here, a variable array of rail memorabilia as well as actually cars, freight cars, cabooses, and engines, many looking for loving care . If you live in the area - volunteer, youll get hooked!! Don was a fount of information told in an engaging way.
It wasnt a bad visit only didnt get to go inside, but viewing outside I really think that inside should be interesting. The various items I saw outside was good viewing. The environment was clean, also I saw the Kentucky statue it was another interesting piece.
Small collection of international artists but a very well designed space.
Nice collection of old trains and railroad equipment from different eras.
Didnt get to visit the inside because it was closed but its a train station and old one
Neat rail cars. Though not currently open due to CORONAVIRUS
Fantastic, safe attraction for kids, they do a great job with social distancing and safety.
Another is what it is venue. If you like trains youll love it: old engines and cars, and plenty of people to answer questions. Hourly train rides and other interesting artifacts, like this train turntable. And you can enter interesting cars like a steam engine cab and a mail car. Call to check hours after 8/31.
I am a RR fan and I love this stuff. Whish I had the money to donate thelp them get more things and fix up what they have.
Thank you John Oliver.Without him I wouldn’t have ever googled this city
I really passed and saw the museum there but i have never stopped to go in personally. But i will encourage them to keep it more attractive so it can encourage people to come and see what they are doing. Best wishes
Haven’t been here in a while took my son. We always have fun. I matter what we do. Because my child is a well put together child that loves life and the simple things mean the most. There were lots of old trains you could get into and take pictures. There was one working train, a museum with things to touch, churn and exploreThere was a little activity area along with a gift shop. There is free parkingOverall a chive day
Great Halloween train ride to a pumpkin patch they made in the yard. They serve cider and cookies and the kids get a pumpkin. Very cute, we will be back for Christmas.
We went to visit Uncle Sam. What fun! We have been to the museum on a previous visit which we enjoyed. There is something for everyone and we learned so much about the railroad history. Its good for all ages. There is some hands on stuff for the kids to do.
Extensive display of vintage railroad equipment in spacious rail yard. Interesting museum exhibits and model trains in old Danbury station. My favorite piece is the antique double-ended wrecking crane used in the tunnels at Grand Central Terminal in NYC.
Fascinating place! Many wonderful artifacts of the bygone era of rail. And an actual (if short) train ride
Avoid in winter. Most trains are locked in winter. The price seems the same as during summer when theres more to see and do.
This is a really good and interesting museum about trains ranging from steam era all the way to modern locomotives. Staff is very nice and the museum is kid friendly (hands on things and challenges). There is a main exhibit hall with model trains, video, and more! Outside, there are real trains which you can walk in and explore
Really nice place to visit. People are knowledgable and friendly. My kids loved it. The special guests are nice during holiday. They put on a nice tour
Great museum and cute town. The gentlemen who work here have been there for over 30+ years. It’s a must visit!
Phenomenal place for a day trip of all ages, the staff loves educating others about the railways and awesome people!
Nice place to visit
John Oliver brought me here
Luckily this is a museum they didnt Danbury up
Beautiful museum, lots to see. Got a guided tour of railyard. Very knowledgeable staff!
Very informative! Great history lessons. Knowledgeable and pleasant tour guide. Admission price very reasonable.
Friendly staff. Interesting and fun displays indoors. Many railcars.
Fun place to visit, learn about railroad history. Spend several hours. Danbury is very lucky to have such a great museum.
Great, interesting and fun museum. They staff of volunteers is very knowledgeable and friendly. We had a great time!
Very interesting place to visit rake a train ride
A fun and inexpensive adventure into the history of trains and railways in general, as well as that of Danbury itself. Im very happy to support this organization.
A must visit place if you are in the Danbury area with kids.Lots to learn for kids. They have working models, a lot of exhibits for kids and adults both. There is a train ride as well where u can can either take tickets for sitting in the coach or locomotive. The locomotive can seat only 2. On the way you see the yard and a locomotive turntable. This place definitely needs money and volunteers for the upkeep and to preserve the history for the future generations.Check out the wooden whistle in the gift shop.
It is a small rail museum, they are really trying, station house is real nice, hope they do well. Recommended to visit.
My 2-year-old absolutely loved it! From turning on the train sets to exploring the old trains. The people there were really nice
Brought my father in wheelchair and he was able to see yard and displays in museum
Great staffing, outstanding gift shop, and all around great fun for the whole family!!! Cant wait to come back again!
I loved all the classic trains! Cant wait to return to ride on a train!
Atmospheric and toy trains to play with good photo ops
Great train museum! Lots of interesting things to look at, and multiple model train displays. Very friendly staff.
Pretty interesting place. I am truly interested in trajns now
Awesome place for me my wife and kids.
Great experience, definitely worth checking out! My son loved it!
Small but interesting. If you like railroad history give it a try. Some neat railroad cars and engines on the property. Also, MTA comes right thru.
Fun place to take kids. Relatively small but the history is interesting. The outside was closed when we went so we do have more to see with the rain check they gave us. Looking forward to returning.
Good History excellent tour guy!
Really fun place to bring kids. They had such a good time. The staff is great and are very knowledgable about trains. Its a good time
Went to iron rail. Very disappointed. Risotto was actually rice! And I was given 3 med sized scallops as an appetizer which was costly for that. Soup was brought with my meal!
My nephew loved it here! There was a play area for children and multiple electric powered model s. There were train card we could visit in the yard as well. Due to the weather well come back and see them at another time. The guide told me that there is an event in Easter and weekend train rides.
Great stuff for kids to look at. A little disappointed at the santa train ride....but it was cheap so its hard to complain.I love the station and the model trains the kids can play with.
The best. Get a library pass.
Good and interesting information. Many trains to see
Maybe not the biggest but definitely worth a visit. Lots of access to equipment. Super friendly staff. Take a Cab Ride too!
A very diverse collection of railroad history. The collection inside the station includes model railroads of various scales, photographs, documents and hardware. The external collection includes freight cars, passenger cars, locomotives and a wood New York Central caboose. The admission charge is reasonable and donations are accepted.
Wow what a hidden gem. I recently had the opportunity to chaperone kids on their school trip to the DRM. I am a full blown rail fan and yet never thought to visit this museum. I was so impressed with the huge inventory of railroad antiques, rolling stock, and the dedicated members. The grounds are wonderful and the ride on the turntable is a must. Such a great piece of history and so thankful it has been preserved for others to experience.
It has alot of history about the railroad and a yard full of engines and cars you can check out. The museum/station(which was built early 1900s) itself has a lot of cool artifacts..They also have a turntable and pump house you can check out as you take a quick ride on a small track. We enjoyed ourselves. I thought the mail train was the coolest. We would definantly recommend. Its good for all ages.
A great museum. I really liked the displays and history and model railroad that are inside the building. The train yard could be a little more inviting, but still very interested. Well worth the price of admission overall.
The danbury railway is a great place to go ESPECIALLY the holiday events. The events are GREAT for kids 7 under. The only reason I am giving it 4 stars is because the events arent for everyone, at least in MY opinion.
Weve had a family membership for the past 4 years and it has been great. The boys and I never tire of coming to the museum which has not only a wonderful indoor display area, but also what is the greatest collection of engines and cars of all kinds stored out in the yard. There are great special events and the staff are kind and happy to share their knowledge.
Nice
Its not the most impressive museum but for the price its a great place to go. My 2 year old loved it here. Toy trains to play with, very detailed model train setups and since we were the only ones there midweek in the morning we got a private tour of the railyard.
What an awesome place for little kids.... My 2 year old and my 4 year old could had spend all day there, happy as they can be. Totally recommended. We will be back soon
Nice pleasant place. Great volunteer staff. Great for kids and railroad interests
If you havent visited the Danbury Railway museum yet, you havent lived! The museum has come a long way over the years, and its better than ever! What really make this museum stand out are the people. The people who run and care for this place are some of the hardest working people Ive ever met, and have a true passion for preservation of these historic trains. Many if not all of them once worked or, still currently work for the railroad system and volunteer their time come and make this museum one of the best train museums Ive been to in some time. It even rivals some Pennsylvania rail yards that are very large but dont offer the kind of experience quite like this one. Itll take you all day to see everything that they have. I highly recommend this place!
Fun experience for kids and interesting for adults
As an adult only really good for one trip. As a parent this is a great place to take your little one and a family membership is so worth it.
Interesting museum. Great displays of old trains.
Very well presented displays of rail equipment and models. Knowledgeable, friendly staff. A gem - best rail museum in New England.
Great train museum.. indoor and outdoor..lots of old railroad equipment on display...
Such a hidden gem! My toddler loves exploring and climbing the vintage trains in the train yard and the 3 train tracks indoors. The gift shop is cute, the prices are fair and the volunteers are knowledgeable and so invested!
Very cool. Became a member, going to take the class they offer.
My 4 and 8 y.o. boys had a wonderful time. Very friendly staff and interesting displays.
Interesting history of Trains.
My brother in law and myself only was able to stay a short time ....but we were very impressed with the history and the maps and all the books ....We hope to go back very soon with our families and our young people ....!! Definitely an experience that everyone should see ..!!
Staff was pleasant, Easter train ride was pretty unbearable
Nice place
Excellent for children and train buffs
My kids loved it
Good place to spend a few hours with the kids.
Awesome experience. Great place to take your kids on a way-back train experience
Great place to take any child who loves trains ..
Great staff, knowledge and kind. Very affordable tickets and the opportunity to learn more
Very cool place to learn local history - kids loved exploring the trains and seeing the Easter Bunny
It was a great as long as you love trains
Great place for kids. Train ride was awesome but very short
Fun low price gift shop
Got to take the last ride on the turntable before restoration. Awesome!
Awesome Museum but needs additional funding and volunteers to really show off the collection. The staff is incredibly passionate about what they do.
Its a nice museum. Weekend train rides only. Weekdays museum building exhibits and walking tour of yard.
Awesome little place to take kids. They can even ride an actual train
