So much fun! Our driver and hostess, Elisa was fantastic! She provided so many tips, information and current facts on various parts of Chicago. We had 12 stops during our tour, but remained on the entire route which took us roughly 2 and a half hours. Because of the time year only the trolly was operating which was perfect. It was heated and not overly busy. We purchased a one day pass online, which requires you to visit one of 3 locations to have a representative print out a paper receipt to give to the driver. Thank you Elisa for the many laughs !
Fantastic service and entertaining! We absolutely loved all of our guides; Linda, Jay and I believe Connor. Fantastic! 2 day ticket was perfect to ride and hop on and off and see the sites. Every single guide provided new and slightly different details to the tour and humor and fun! Would do this over and over when we come to visit Chicago! What a wonderful experience...best tourist tickets we bought!!
Chicago is famous for its unique showmanship! A beautiful city with expanding architectural beauty. You must visit my hometown! Miss you Chicago! There is no place quite like this city!
I was somewhat skeptical when i purchased our 4 tickets but after taking the full tour i came to realize it was a value. What a great time. Shamus was our guide was friendly and very knowledgable. He made the tour. Money well spent.
I rented a private trolley for my birthday this past weekend and it was AMAZING! It was very simple to book and I was able to email in all my questions before hand. The driver knew exactly what I wanted and where I wanted to go before hand so that I could sit back and enjoy my day with friends and family. I would 100% recommend this to anyone that asked.
Shamus was an awesome tour guide! He made the tour so much fun and we learned so much of the citys history along the way. It was the best way to see the city sights in one shot. I would highly recommend taking this tour.
Sad that it closed and so many families are without jobs beginning a new year. Wishing the owners would reconsider and give the Chicago families another chance to be great again.
I only give 2 stars because Daniel was amazing, but Miss Jazmin, the driver was not. My husband and I were there this weekend to celebrate my birthday, first time to Chicago. We took the bus earlier on Monday to look around and listen to our guide and decided to go back later for pictures. Well, came to find out, Miss Jazmin was in a hurry to get home and wanted to go straight to the last stop at the Navy Pier. Daniel asked her to take us to the Planetarium (best view of Chicago and the lake I think) but She refused, I finally came downstairs and begged her to do it (to do her job, to drive the loop that the company advertises and we paid for, to drive the bus and take the customers to see the city), which She did reluctantly. I did not know the last tour at 4 pm is just to drop people off at the closest stop they are going. Tourists go to your city to wander and enjoy, not to be pushed and rush because you do not feel like fulfilling your duty.
CYNTHIA and one specific tour guide made my familys trip a memorable one that Im sure none of the kids will never forget. I didnt catch the tour guides name but he has glasses and I hope everyone in the company knows who it is because everyone loved him. The kids even REQUESTED and were willing to wait for him to hop on his bus. These two specific people deserve raises and recognition because they are exactly what you want when visiting Chicago. I didnt get to go with the family and the tour itself was probably great but all the kids talked about was how fun the tour guide was. Hope he sees this message because he made their trip! Thanks again for giving my family a great experience.
We had Chicago Trolley Company for our wedding on 8.18.18 and they were great. The driver was right on time and very accommodating. We were picked up in River North area and the driver had no problem letting us take a few pictures by the river before taking us to the Lincoln park area.Once we got to the Lincoln park area the driver was able to find parking (even during the air and water show) and wait for us to take pictures. After dropping us of at the venue the driver then went back to the hotel in river north to pick up guest. The driver made sure to get all guest back to the venue on time for the ceremony. Overall great experience and glad we used Chicago Trolley Company.
Bought a 3-day pass and Christmas lights tour. The lights tour guide was nice but the short time at the locations make it almost pointless. As for the 3 day pass, I bought it to use mainly as transportation and was able to actually get on a bus only once. The pickup sites were either abandoned or we were told the bus would be 40+ minutes before it arrived. We ended up having to walk the entire city with a toddler and could not find 1 bus to use. Not sure why you would operate a hop on hip off bus and leave people waiting in the cold for over an hour.
They have great tours. Love open double decker buses.
DO NOT book with this company. They were the only part of my wedding that was horrible. The driver was so rude the entire time and acted like this was the last place he wanted to be. His directions to our ceremony was printed out on map quest like it was 2003, so when we requested him not to take the highway because there was no air conditioning and it was 95 and we didnt want our hair getting ruined, he refused because he didnt know how to get there (doesnt he have google maps on his phone??) When were paying you that much money to drive us, I expect better service. He never once said anything to me the whole time-no congrats or anything. He looked miserable. Then he took the wrong turn and we ended up in a car parking lot and had to direct him to the ceremony. After the ceremony, we wanted to play music (which bring your own usb cord for the phone because once again they dont have this which is absurd) and he just said it wasnt working-no explanation, even though on the way to the ceremony, the music was working. He just didnt want to listen to music Im sure, so I had to complain and tell him that it worked before and please try to figure it out. He was so rude that my husband had to talk with him on the side to have his attitude better. Again and to top it all off, NO AIR conditioning, which they dont advertise much. To all the brides, go with a different company-this company is the worst to work with!
I did purchased 2 tickets ($84) on October 24 th to use in Chicago on the 27th .,, I got immediately an email from WorldPay CARD transaction saying they approved my transaction but It was up to Couch USA to release my tickets ... so I never got my tickets and got charge on my credit card I keep trying to get ahold of them and keeps sending me a message that they didn’t have my transaction . Please I need an explanation of all this mess and my money back ASAP
When we bought our tickets the girl was very friendly and helpful. However no one ever explained that when you buy the night tour they have limited seating and that they oversell tickets. After waiting 40 mins for the tour, only 1 trolley arrived and about 45 people were left off. The only explanation was that its a 1st come 1st serve. We would have to call on a Monday to speak to a manager for a possible refund. When I called the person answering the phone was rude and hung up on me when I asked to speak to a manager. JIMMY NEEDS CUSTOMER SERVICE TRAINING. CHICAGO TROLLEY IS A RIP OFF.
Not recommended for anyone not speaking or understanding English very well. As Germans we had to download an App as audio guide which was working well but not every tourist wants to install an App for a short visit. Unfortunately we could not understand any of the information given by the App (via our own! ear plugs) because the guide was to loud.Furthermore the bus stops could hardly be found.Never again! Completely tourist-unfriendlyAt least this company offers any other language
A few years ago I used them in the winter and they literally saved my life because I brought my mom that time who suffers with fibromyalgia. They sent the trolley almost exclusively for us because it was pretty dead due to the weather. This year I booked a three day downtown pass for four despite the recent negative reviews. We had numerous guides and they were all knowledgeable and kind. They all engaged us in some way or another and the bus was never as crowded as the competition which is a definite plus. The night tour was awesome. Even my boyfriend who is impossible to please was really impressed. I highly recommend. The only down side might be how I felt the need to tip them all! Ha ha. You can just tell these are all hard working and great spirited people. Keep up the good work Chicago Bus and Trolley!
We normally try to avoid tourist things like this, but we needed an activity that didn’t require too much walking as it was the day before the marathon, and we really enjoyed it! Gretchen was hilarious, and the route gave us a great first impression of the city. Only things to be aware of would be that sometimes the bus was too full to accept any more people on the upper deck, and the online bus-tracking map wasn’t very accurate. Otherwise, it was great.
Extra long wait times and app doesnt work. We purchased ticket and went to first stop Adler planetarium. Used their app and said next bus was coming soon so we went out to stop. Kept checking app and it said next bus coming in 8, 5, 3 minutes. Then no bus came. Called their main office after waiting 20 minutes who said next bus coming in 25 minutes and apologized because traffic was heavy. Our bus did come as he predicted after a total 45 minutes wait but as we waited we saw THREE big buses and 1 gray line bus pass us by. Why is traffic not as issue for the other companies. I will use big bus next time. Kroge have claimed about the quality of the tour guides on big bus but Id rather have a mediocre guide rather than extra long wait times for the bus. It wouldnt be as bad if their app could give you accurate times so you could spend more time in exhibits rather than at the bus stop
We had great success with this company. We purchased a 72 hour pass and rode the bus the entire time we were in town. We were able to pick up the bus less than a block from our hotel in two different locations (stop 2 and stop 10- we stayed at the Hyatt Regency). We used the bus to see the city and hear the tour information. Our tour guides were different in each ride and each had their own personalities, but were very knowledgeable. Would certainly purchase again for future travels.
They have a great circuit. You can visit amazing touristic spots at Chicago downtown area. Buses were comfortable, guide was enthusiastic, funny and passionate to tell stories about each place. I enjoyed listening very much. Time between each bus were 25 minutes which is enough. Only one thing to improve, second level of the bus is open, I went on fall and it was very cold. BigBus, the competitor, covered with a trasparent plastic to protect passengers from cold wind but allows great views. They need to copy this idea.
Bought a package of two day bus ride and Mercury Skyline Cruise. It was well worth it. All the tour guides we met were fun and professional. I hope they are paid well, although it made me think they depend a lot on tips, which is sad because the company charges big bucks for the ride.
On June 14, 2016, my husband and I went to Chicago for a day trip. Our only goal of the day was to experience the hop on hop off tour bus. We are glad we did! Our first guide, Daniel, (from locations 1-9) was very entertaining and informative. Our second guide, Pauline (?) (from 9-1) was informative as well. We were very happy with our experience. It was worth the price and we will tell others about it.
Sat downstairs as it was full upstairs. All the windows were covered in this.... WHY would you operate a fleet of SIGHTSEEING buses and then COVER ALL THE WINDOWS???????? idiots! The voice of the guide was drowned out by the sound of the horn constantly being blasted by an aggressive and impatient driver. My advice: Find a better company to tour with!
Might as well be a scam. Ordered my tickets weeks before my arrival date. I do everything correctly. I bring my receipt and downloaded their bus tracking app. My boyfriend and I go to one of the stops and notice a bus but the man working immediately leaves the bus/podium. We turn on the app, the bus tracker doesnt work while it is 2pm. Each podium we visited was abandoned. Must be nice to leave people in the cold and rain because your employees dont like it either. We saw multiple people looking for an employee whether it would be Navy Pier or outside the Macys. I had to walk in the cold and rain all day Saturday and only saw the bus run 1 time an hour before closing because the app still didnt work. We paid 100 dollars for this 2 day pass and for what? NOTHING. I called Monday and left a voicemail for someone to call me back, nobody did. I cant even get my refund for this terrible service. You partially ruined my first experience in Chicago and hope this review makes you lose more customers due to your horrible service. It is better and cheaper to Uber your way through the city.Update: Spoke to the person that e-mailed me and I did receive a refund with that e-mail.
Company ceasing operation after 12/31 per article in Chicago Tribune
This experience was something amazing. The tour guy name Kent.. is very knowledgeable of the city and friendly with everyone. He has some great stories and make the tour very enhancing and engaging. I was please with the city tour and the staff. This made my birthday completely awesome.
We had a great experience. One of our tour guides, Keith Cavanaugh, was hilarious! The impersonations were endless and oh so funny. This wasnt our first time with this company and hopefully it wont be the last.
We had a three day pass and only used two days. The first guide we had, Daniel, was wonderful. We thoroughly enjoyed his time with us. But after that, we were not too impressed with the other guides. Daniel acted like he enjoyed the job, added extra tidbits, and joked around with the passengers. Everyone else sounded like they were reading a script and were in the last place they wanted to be. Thats why we didnt do the third day.
The only good thing about this experience was the guides. The buses were old and the audio was terrible. The bottom seating was very hard to look through windows. Competing bus companies came 3x as frequently as these did.
We rented out a private trolley for a Bachelorette party this past weekend and it was TRULY the greatest thing any of us have ever done!! We ended up adding an hour at the end because we couldnt imagine having to get off. We originally planned to stop at some bars but had SO much fun riding around singing to people on the street and seeing Chicago that we truly only got off for a bathroom break (thanks Gustavo for planning that!). HIGHLY recommend doing a private trolley for any event you have because it will be the best thing you do!
Do not use this company!!! You have been warned!!!! Bought a 3 day pass, but was only able to use it for 1 day due to their made up issues. However, the other company (Big Bus) was still running. I called them about crediting my card and recharging me for a 1 day pass. They told me they would, but never did. So, I had to dispute the charge with my credit card company. Also, they stop service when they feel like it. No pre-warning to customers. Another issue in case of rain you can not use an umbrella on the top deck only ponchos are allowed. They do not provide ponchos however Big Bus does. The tour guides are the worst! They talk too much. Lots of talk about useless info and not enough about important/interesting info.
Last night, we were waiting for the Night Tour Bus, as directed at 945 at the Sheraton Hotel. No bus showed up. We were in constant contact with the Dispatcher - but it appeared as though we had wasted our night waiting for the bus that somehow missed the first stop on the tour. Then the tour guide, who had just finished his last route, Jay, agreed to take us on a VIP tour - just the four of us on the double decker. It was absolutely perfect. Jay made the tour very entertaining for our teenagers. He is the pinnacle of customer service and a great rep for this company. Thank you Jay!!!!
Booked the Chicago Trolley & Double Decker for my family since we have 2 kids under 5, and I thought the option of riding a bus or trolley would decrease our wait time. We ended up waiting over an hour for a bus to arrive at the Jackson stop. 3 trolleys stopped by, but we were told the trolleys were unavailable that day. 7 Big Buses passed by which is a competing option right next door. The people at the Big Bus station were very nice and offered us discounts to switch, but I had bought my tickets online the night before. The guy at the Chicago Trolley stand offered nothing, except to extend my ticket. The Big Bus cost us a 2+ hour delay, since we wanted to go to Navy Pier. Would not recommend to family or friends ever.
Our guide Daniel and our driver Michael were outstanding and very professional. It was one of the best tours that we have ever taken. Keep up the good work.
What an amazing experience and so much fun!!! Kent and Gustavo went above and beyond to make sure we had a tour that we would never forget!! Outstanding Tour Guide and Driver, very knowledgeable!! Thank you so much!!!
We hired a trolley for our wedding last month. The driver was on time (actually he was over an hour early), but he had absolutely no idea where to go after that. He had map quest printed out but never looked at it. We had to give him turn by turn directions and he kept complaining that he didnt know where to go because he only drives in the city (we were in the suburbs). He ended up going the complete wrong direction when we failed to notice he didnt turn and we had to turn around and head back. We gave the company all of the address in advance but he did not seem to do his research. It was a very stressful experience and I would not recommend them, especially for the price we paid. Also, beware these trolleys have no AC!!
Great tour overall and a wonderful way to see the city. I prefer this type of tour so you can get out and see something that interests you and spend as much time as you like. Carmine on the phone was very friendly and helpful over the phone with resolving a small issue.I definitely recommend this tour for newcomers to Chicago
I dont live in Chicago for a long time, and this one helped me to know a little of what it is the city, very recommendable.
These are all about what guide you get. We purchased the 72hr pass, and had great experiences and terrible ones. The only difference were the guides. There was one who just couldnt put 5 words together into a sentence to save her life, and another older gentleman who mumbled terribly. Then we had a few guides who were fantastic. They were funny and very informative. I will say they all do have a little different story on ages and heights of some buildings, and I really didnt know what to believe after awhile. The company also could take some of the money they make and invest in new microphones, because they are all terrible with static, and the little paper ticket doesnt last the whole 72 hrs unless great care is taken with it. I think a card stock ticket would be better. All in all it is a good way to see the city, and get around.
My experience with your service was very informative. Your guides do a great job and are knowledgeable of Chicago however, I was disappointed when we toured by the Trump Tower! One of your guides description of our current president of the United States as a looney president! I was greatly offended!! Out of common courtesy and respect for this young man I held my comments! Your agency accommodates tourist from around the world as well as from all over the United States! I believe off the cuff political statements need to be kept confidential and should stay out of your guides presentations! Its most important to respect the position of our president irregardless of political persuasion! I am very hesitant from using your services the next time I travel to your great city! Thank you!
I WAS CELEBRATE MY MOTHER 70 YEARS OLD BIRTHDAY!Every 20 minutes the bus driver tell us get out to the bus and take the next one.... so we never complete the tour because they are very rude and wait for the next one more than 4 times was not a fun time.So the are very unprofessional people, they never due the tour complete for two hours they due they one way with no respect.Better was the tours on the water...much better..........NEVER TAKE A BUS TOUR
Recently booked the 48 hour city pass during a cold and rainy December weekend and I was less than impressed. I woul have done a single star but I feel the staff is trying to work with the poor equipment they are given. As mentioned it was cold and rainy which is why I elected to book a warm and dry bus for sight seeing. The problem is 2 of the 3 double decker buses leaked water so bad that the host sent us to the back of the bus to the only dry seats and I could see my breath when I talked. Finally you cant see a thing with the advertisment film on the outside of the bus.I would suggest using this service only if its warm and dry.
The guides were terrible! We wanted to see the sights and hear about the history. Instead we got very lame impressions and terrible singing. As we were passing by the Shedd Aquarium, the guide started singing (screeching)loudly ..This is the age of Aquarium. It was embarrassing.. I apologized to the German tourists on the bus. They asked about a building as we passed and were told... it’s an old building. Also promoted McDonalds, some pizza place and the best place to get a steak is Gibson’s.Had a terrible headache from the yelling and Arnold Schwarzenegger impressions. We got off early and walked back.
Waited for a while but worth the wait!Kent is the best! Kent made the tour special for each & every person! Kent even took photos that will be cherished memories of our tour.
We were in Chicago on 8/29/18 and the weather was rainy but Gretchen was such a trouper. Until it started pouring she stayed up top with the rest of us. She was funny, knowledgeable and knew her stuff. A shout out to RK who took over while Gretchen went to lunch. We were still on the bus when she returned. The bus drivers: Rico & Alvareo were great. We learned a lot. So much that when we get back to Boston were going to do a similar tour so we can really learn what Boston is about.
Was complete trash. I was a chaperone on a field trip with 8th graders, and the driver just lost it. He tried to leave the teachers and other chaperones behind, he kept talking trash to oneof the other chaperones, then put his hands in the chaperones face. He then closed the door when one of the teachers was getting on, and was going off on the kids. The driver was terrible and should be fired. Dont go on these trolleys if you dont like being harassed
I am writing to complain about one of your staffs customer service. It was on May 23rd at approximately 9:30 am by your companys booth at the SkyDeck location. We were just inquiring about getting our shirts because one of the tour guides had mentioned it the day before, and he rudely explained that the free shirts had already expired. He said we should not ask for it since we dont have it printed on our receipts. However, when we checked on of our receipts, we did have a coupon that said FREE T-SHIRT printed on it. Anyway, we asked him next if there is anything we can do for a lost receipt and then once again he had a really horrible customer service and was extremely rude in explaining that there is nothing we can do about it. We asked this person really nicely about it and we werent even forcing him to give us shirts nor another ticket. He could have been the least be empathetic for our unfortunate situation. It was a horrible experience and was super embarrassing because I had picked your company for my Canadian visitors. Moreover, it was also supposed to be a fun birthday celebration for me and my friends as well. I used your company for years even when I first visited this city and was recommending it to all of my friends. This used to be a really good touring company. Unfortunately, I dont know if I want to use your service in the future because of this really horrible experience.
Booked this trip two times lost money very poor directions on bus locations for pickup got more info from Big Bus
Unfortunately, our trolley tour narrator, Phillip, was useless. He knew nothing about the city. Spent his time pointing out Starbucks, green lights and trees. He read names off buildings. He had a vocabulary somewhere under 100 words and five of them were literally. He literally used the word literally in every sentence. Luckily, we got off for lunch and when we reboarded the tour narrator was Emily. Very knowledgeable. Wonderful speaker and the reason for a saved three star review.
Tour was great. The extremely liberal comments from the driver was not. These people need to realize they get customers from all over the world. This driver made fun of the Midwest and Republicans. No one cares about his political views. Im here to see Chicago.
We took this on a rainy day. The trolley company decided to take the money from the ad plastered on the side of the bus vs valuing customer experience. Couldnt see anything out the window. See attached photo.
Stay away from this company. They must have way less buses than the other companies which make you wait loonger times for your bus.
The Chicago Trolley will shut down operations 12/31/2019!
Absolute the best experience. We scheduled a Holiday weekend trip which they planned and executed perfectly. Great people at Chicago Trolley and our driver Anthony was a real professional. We would strongly recommend Chicago Trolley for that special Chicago area event.
Incredibly knowledgeable of the city. The trolley takes you to ten or so mainstops throughout the city. All of the main attractions are covered. They also offer a special Wrigleyville tour that offers you a ride farther north to Wrigley field and other more Northern attractions. We took the bus with two different crews and all were very entertaining and insightful. Great experience if you are looking for a bus ride and a chance to learn about the citys history.
Shoutout to tour guide Daniel (and driver Larry). Our 4th guide we had, and by far the BEST.
The salesperson who sold the tickets said that the wait time for another bus to come is 20-25 minutes. I had to wait for over an hour. I am very dissatisfied with this bus company. It was a total waste of money and delayed my schedule. I called the company and the lady was very rude. Overall, this was not worth spending money on.
I went for an interview. I liked the place and the staff.
Not a great bus service. They dont have much buses running and you hardly can get hold of two or three attractions with the schedule they run. I have been to Chicago on May 8th and used their service and felt the same. Rather it is best to take your own car and park it on the curbside and pay very few dollars per hour . It would be way cheaper and better than taking their bus if you are family of 4 or so . Second day in chicago i took my own car and it was less than 30 dollars for parking vs 120 dollars for tickets for the entire family
My family had an incredible experience. The staff of this company provided a great experience. The stops are well planned and in convenient locations. The discount tickets allowed us to save 45 minutes to an hour at the sky deck. The staff helped us navigate to Harry Carays 7th inning. We could not have asked for a better experience. Valerie at stop 2 and the man at stop 1 (Willis Tower) were exceptional, bravo!!!!
Terrible tour. We went on the night light tour on Friday the 25th, the tour guide was awful! Would have been a better tour with just music playing. Our 1st stop we got off and walked around and didnt get back on. I didnt get his name but he said that he had worked there for 19 years, would have thought he would have more knowledge about the city than he did.
We were in town for 5 days so decided to purchase the 3-day ticket. We asked a bunch of questions about where the stops were and timing of them so we could be prepared to get picked up when we needed too. One day we took the bus to our first stop and didn’t make a full loop, when we were going to get back on the buses were running so late we would have needed to wait about 45 mins for he next one to come. We used the tracking section on their website which seemed to not work the best and not very helpful - and the employees at the stands weren’t very helpful when we asked how to use the site. We ended up walking to a majority of the places instead of using the bus because they were so far behind, it seemed like the other bus company (Big Bus?) always had a bus at the stops. We planned to hop on the bus right away in the morning when they started at 9am. We asked the worker if there would be a bus at our stop at 9am and she told us there would be a bus at EVERY stop at 9am when they start, which in fact was wrong. They only start at 9am at certain stops and will eventually get to yours. Then there was the awful driver named Keenan (he wasn’t wearing a name tag, but we asked another worker what the drivers name was and that is the name we got, he was a white male, maybe mid-30’s) who was by far the most unprofessional worker we ran into. Not only did we witness him getting into arguements with his coworkers (which from our view, looked like just a misunderstanding between a rider and he tour guide) but he proceeded to yell at the woman selling tickets at the Willis Tower stop while throwing his arms up in the air and speaking in a very downgrading demenour. —this happened on Sunday June 17, 2018.I know everyone has bad days, and there are miscommunications of information. But after all of these experiences in the little amount of time we ACTUALLY used this mode of transportation, I would not recommend this.I will say, there were two very good tour guides that we did have while using it, they were pleasant and humorous.
Its OKA ticket valid for 3 days currently costs $45 which is reasonable taking into consideration you can travel anywhere around downtown. The stops at are each major point of interest at least for the downtown signature tour.On the downside which gives a little disappointment is the fact that different tour guides tell different stories about certain buildings. I want to listen to the history of the city but now are unsure what to believe. Besides that I can recommend the company. Very friendly and helpful staff and the buses on the signature tour pick you up around every 15 to 2 minutes.
Absolutely wonderful experience. Lance romance was the best tour guide! Very knowledgeable of the area and very fun.
Saturday March 27 th. 2016, We took a Spanish tour, and this was more than fun ! The driver was so nice and funny with the people. Its was a wonderful idea to offered this tour. Congratulations.
Even though I have been to Chicago many many times, this tour is worth every penny. Not only do you get to see a lot of the city but you also get to grab a few gifts along the way. Even if you are a lifelong resident I bet you will learn something new on this tour.
The Hop On Hop Off tour is a great tour of Chicago and provides a great introduction to the city. I highly recommend it.
The Chicago Trolley and Double Decker Company was a really fun way to tour and learn about the city. The guides were knowledgeable as well as humorous, making the mood on the tour fun and exciting. We learned a tremendous amount about the city, and we were able to stop and see the sights and jump right back on the bus with ease.
THIS IS the BEST tour EVER! close to hotels, attractions and train station!! the employees are really nice!! from check in thru the end! Also the employees were real cool and really funny!! Will do it again when back to Chicago!!!
Absolutely horrible, bus took 35 min to get to us, arrived almost full and unable to sit up top, once we filled the bus at our stop, stopped at another stop and crammed another 10 people in standing on an unairconditioned bus in 90+ degree temps definitely more of a sauna.... Ugh avoid and go with the big bus company they had 3 buses come by while waiting for ours none of which were crammed packed
This company and bus tour is pathetic and a waste of time. They sold me a ticket and once the bus left on the tour they started telling the passengers that 1/2 of the tour route would not be included. If there were road/route closures the sales associate should have mentioned that when they sold me the ticket. I would suggest you go with BIG BUS TOURS or any other company. Paying a few extra dollars to avoid the incompetence of this company and the tour guide is worth it.Also, NEVER pay full price for this tour. Because the competition company BIG BUS TOURS is much better, they will sell you a ticket for $15 dollars to ride with them (other customers on the bus told me they only paid $15 because the sales associate was trying to get them away from the other bus company). I never write reviews, but this company is garbage. I had to share my thoughts.I tried to make a complaint the day this incident happened, but I was told to call the office the next day, due to the fact that it was late Saturday evening. The next day I ran a marathon and then my flight was delayed three times (hence, I was not thinking and failed to call). When I returned home I was ill for a week and again was unable to call. I called about a week and a half after the incident (which was my fault) but the MANAGER I spoke with was unhelpful and dismissive due to the tardiness of my call. The whole incident just screams unprofessional and a rip-off.
Not timely like they said when we bought our tickets. Not air conditioned. If you sheet inside bus you cant see out. BIG BUS TOURS IS ALOT BETTER. USE BIG BUS! TWO BIG BUSES HAVE BEEN BY OUR STOP AND TROLLY NO WHERE IN SITE.
While the tour guides were knowledgeable and entertaining, the Company was disappointing. The other Hopon/Hop off had three times as many busses. While waiting for our trolley we would typically see 2 competitors busses stop. Ours were overcrowded for this reason. Next time we will use the competition.
Probably the worst experience of our trip to Chicago! Weve taken these sort of tours throughout the world and expected a similar experience while in Chicago. As soon as the trolley arrived we knew that something was different; the driver (Michael) didnt ask for our tickets, didnt care if we showed them to him and proceeded to tell us that after 19 years I can do whatever I want to do! Im not even sure if he followed the planned route as the windows on the trolley were completely fogged over, limiting what we could see! To remedy the situation the driver simply tossed a roll of paper towels to the front passenger; we were all expected to wipe the windows clear if we wanted to see anything!! We didnt learn anything about the history of the city, aside from now knowing that the driver & his son eat lunch at a local food court in Chicago!! $400 ($CDN, 7 X 24hr tickets) later we hopped off at the first stop and never looked back. The driver might need medical attention as we believe that he may have been intoxicated, bi polar or simply insane! Such a shame that
I have good experience with the hop-on hop-off tour today itself. They cover good number of places with 14 stops. you can catch the bus alomst every 15-20 mins from any its stops. I think 35 dollars for a tour is slightly on a higher side. It should be somewhere in the range of 20 - 25 dollars. anything more than that seems highly priced. Tour guide is entertaining and well mannered. the best part is that the ticket remains valid for 3 days.
Curtis was great. Informative and funny..last nite kelly and gustavo were excellent very friendly and professional..great tour
On a trip to Chicago this summer with my mother and sister, our hotel concierge recommended Chicago Trolley & Double Decker Co. to see the sites, and so we bought tickets for the hop on hop off tour. Being a 3-day tour, we experienced the varied styles of numerous guides. I wish every guide had been as friendly, informative, funny and enthusiastic as the guide we had on Day 2! However, this was not the case; I will describe in detail the unpleasant incidents we endured with two of the other guides. On Day 1, we had an unbelievably unprofessional guide who conducted himself in a very inappropriate manner, including:-screaming profanities into the mic when he was displeased with the speed at which the bus driver was driving, in front of many young children aboard the bus-stumbling crotch-first into my sister multiple times because he insisted on standing on the moving bus instead of seating himself safely in one of the many available seats-complaining to us patrons about the length of his shift and brevity of his lunch breakI was literally cringing in my seat, not wanting to make eye contact with him. My family and I could not wait to get off the bus!On Day 3 our guide seemed totally disinterested in giving us a proper tour.-He skipped over pointing out and explaining quite a few sites. He would mumble into the mic, giving a slap-dash bare-bones description after wed already passed the site.-He would move around the top deck of the bus so that he could get in the perfect position to take better photos of the sites on his own phone, blocking my view on several occasions.-His clothes were unkempt and dirty, as if hed slept in them and not washed them in weeks. There was visible grime in the folds of his neck. It was disgusting.-When it was time for his lunch break, he took off his poncho, dropped it on the floor of the bus, told the people trying to get off/on the bus to wait so he could grab the money out of his tip jars, and then proceeded to count his tip in front of us, muttering and shaking his head as if he was disappointed with what hed earned.Honestly, I was prepared to give this tour 3/5 stars because it was inexpensive and when we had a good guide, things were fine. However, upon returning home from our trip, I wrote all of this in an email to the Chicago Trolley & Double Decker Co. and to date I have received neither a response nor an acknowledgement in the two months since... not even a generic thank you for your email auto-response. So Ill downgrade my rating to 2/5 stars.
Our tour guide knew most of what was on the brochure and not much more. She knew half of something, for instance, This is soldier field, the Bears won the super bowl once, I think. It looks like a spaceship. Being a Chicago resident, I felt like taking my grandmother on this tour was a waste of money, as we could have learned more about the city by driving around ourselves. The tour guide often got off to smoke or take a break and buy a scarf or even yell at traffic and the bus driver. Perhaps other tour guides would have made our experience more enjoyable. If youre in from out of town, take the tour, if only for the coupon book and brief, but limited transport and information.
Cant leave a review for the ride itself because I never got the chance. Asked a driver if she could tell me where to get passes and without even looking at me she said no, closed the door and left. Terrible first impression and will not be using this service. It was humiliating and unacceptable.
Your driver, Mr McClain (forgot his first name) is a life saver. After receiving incorrect info from one of your tour guides earlier that day, he helped us by dropping us off at the corner of our lakeshore hotel (allerton warwick). As he corrected the info on the limited stops this evening, im sure he could see the panic in my eyes of having to walk from navy pier at 945pm with my mother, a sleeping arm baby and a 7year old. THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart Mr McClain. Bc of him, your company has a lifetime customer!
Driver racist and insulting. Told me and my girlfriend we were in the wrong country and threaten us. His name was Michael and he was African_American. Jason the tour guide kept talking about drugs in front of little kids, and never said a word of the actual tour. His name was Jason and he was Caucasian. Worst experience in a tour company
Ive been waiting for an hour at Navi Pier and no bus arrived. And I called customer service to ask for my money back and they said that Im insulting them and closed the phone. I really regret that I didnt get a Big Bus. Till I was waiting 7 of their busses passed
Great experience through downtown and the tour guides were funny and informative!
An employee, Paul Barile, demanded that I move my car or he would call the police to have me towed. He was aggressive and threatening toward me. We argued, and he hurled insults and swore repeatedly at me. Shockingly, Paul actually called 911 to request an officer to resolve the parking issue. Pauls manager arrived and confirmed that I was totally fine where I was parked. Paul left without an apology.
Weve used Chicago Trolley many times while visiting Chicago. Always insightful and its a blast riding the Double Decker bus when the weather is nice!!
Good driver and so kind
Wow just wow. A bit hit and miss with the tour guide but if you jump off and wait for a funny one youll have more laughs than at a comedy club. Ive been to top nights at the top comedy clubs in England and had less laughs than on this tour
This company had a lot of vehicles and a lot of professional resources that ran the tours out in the field. However, should there be a problem, their customer service is horrible horrible horrible. I have never had a worse customer service experience. Argumentative, defensive, condescending, and just plain rude. In the end, customer service was zero help. So dissatisfying I dont think I can describe it adequately.
We were lucky enough to get Lance romance 3 of the 4 times. he knew alot about the city and was funny. The other person we had wasnt all that good. kept trying to play different music and wasnt very good about connecting with the crowd.
Great place and nice people
Terrible service and guides. First tour guide John have misty information about Walgreens and various unimportant restaurants and little about the history. Second tour guide had an unbelievably loud PA system when sitting at the bottom deck, so much so we moved up the top so while it wasnt as loud it still cut out (youd think a company which primary gave tours would have a working sound sustem). Finally waited 40 mins for a bus for the night tour eventually giving up only to see one coming and sprint to get it. After getting on the bus driver and guide took a 15 mins smoke break during which two other parties got off in frustration. When we too finally left and explained why they said that there were only 4 buses going (meant to be every 20 mins) and that we wouldnt have had enough time anyway before they ended. Seemed to be trying to get everyone off to end early. Awful experience will not be using the rest of our two day pass nor using this service if they have branches in other cities.
This is the worst travel experience I have ever had. Bus was late. Full when it got here. Other buses came and went.
Rude and disrespectful driver on 9/22/2018. Female, don’t know her name.
TERRIBLE!!! Buses were over sold. Use big bus! We watched bus bus after big bus go by us... Finally we get on our Chicago trolley co bus and it was so over packed we nearly had a heat stroke.
Great company, they have amazing bus tours!
Best place
Very Bad Service. The frequency of bus is very low. I have bought online tickets which was costlier in comparison to tickets at counter.
