Absolutely wonderful museum!! Loved learning about the history of Chinatown and the par-for-the-course atrocities of the United States! Really wonderful documentary as well. Absolutely worth a visit (or two depending on how much time you have)!
Visited in Feb 2020. This was an awesome experience. I truly recommend that if you are in Chinatown or in Chicago in general, you make this a stop on your visit. The museum consist of two floors. The second floor was my favorite. There is an interactive theatre, where you watch a documentary of the creation of Chicagos Chinatown, but also can see some of the items they discuss in the documentary. They only ask a small donation for an entrance fee, and the employees/volunteers are very helpful and full of knowledge. We had a wonderful experience!
The children really enjoyed the history of Chinese people in Chicago, very interested. A little place with much culture. You must visit this museum when you stay in Chicago or pass through. So worth it. Great lessons! Great staff! Very accommodating.
I came here for a Chinese New Year event. I really enjoyed it and felt like I learned quite a lot about the culture. They set up beautiful performances which I was not able to view due to sitting towards the back. Overall, I liked it and would be back.
Loving these cultural museums!
A gem not to miss. History of Chinese-Americans contribution to the transcontinental railroad plus the Chinese immigrant experience in Chicago. Presented in an attractive, informative manner. The story is very well presented. A wonderful place to learn about the Chinese experience in America. Thank you.
Wonderful staff that told about almost everything in the museum. The amazing stories of the Chinese people of Chicago was a true treat everyone should see and hear about!
Very interesting, and very good explanations from. Very friendly staff. They also have good restaurant recommendations. There is a recommended donation of 5$, which is good.
Highly recommend. Really interesting place with a lot of information that some people dont know. Sad about how Americans have whitewashed our history and have excluded other people. This place shows it.
Great place! The history of Chinese people in Chicago, very interested.A little place with much culture. You must visit this museum when you stay in Chicago.
The 2nd flood show is very nice. Small but a little bit of everything.
I live so close and never knew this was here! Definitely recommend paying it a visit, you can see everything in an hour. My favorite part was the short video with stories from local Chinese-Americans.
Wonderful time here and learned a lot. This place is truly a gem. You can also sense the strong community effort.
I swear this must be a tax haven under the guise of a non profit. I live on the same street as them and I rarely see them open. 99% of the time I see feckless tourists show up at their doors only to find them closed during typical business hours. The only interaction weve had with them as neighbors was an old dude threatening to slash our tires if we parked their museum. Dont waste your time.
After visiting this place I came to know about many facts about construction of railway tracks in America by chienses workers. This is not very known museum but worth visiting. There is also display of 15 minutes of picture which is very informative and well presented.I really liked this place.
An interesting place. You should go
If you want to learn about Chicago Chinatown this is the place to go and get informed. They have many cool biographies too!
Cool stuff there, but im not to sure about the legitimacy of their stuff.
Stories is getting alive I. This building ... experiences of Chinese people in USA is one of a kind path
New Year celebration is always a blowout! They fed us too. :3
Interesting place; such fascinating stories that need to be told. They need more engaging displays and artifacts however.
Very nice museum,, friendly people,, would recommend,, for schools trips n family
A great place to learn about the important history of our city.
Beautiful museum. The staff are absolutely nice and welcoming of those of us that are not of Chinese descent...they want you to enjoy your time at the museum. They usually have a lecture, film screening, etc. On saturdays
Absolutely fantastic permanent installation as well as informative placards. Small but a reverent experience that asks revelers to reflect on their own history as well as the history of Chicago and its people.
Okay... you HAVE to check out this place. We saw Ann extraordinary exhibit of Chinese American clothing and a concise history of the Chinese American population in the 20th C. If you have any heritage in this area, and you are in the area, this is a must see! Very moving!
Small but provides something to do while trying to digest food to eat more in Chinatown. Definitely something worth seeing as it provides background to the Chinese immigrants who helped give rise to Chinatown.
Good place... lot of interesting history about early Chinese immigrants to USA.
I love the work they put into this place. Very educational and fun!
It was closed when we went there. Very disappointing.
Really enjoyed visiting this institution. Powerful to see and hear all of this history and community life. Excellent staff.
Great place for some information about the Chinese American history
A real gem. Truly a wonderful experience. The whole second floor rocks. A must see if youre visiting Chinatown or anywhere on the near South Side.
Great exhibit on the history of Chinese-American immigration, development and service to Chicago. Also, on a another floor, a wonderful exhibit on Chinese clothing and accessories. Staff was very knowledgable about the exhibits as well as China
I love the place lots of information
Gave me insight on the struggles of Chinese immigrants during the building of the Union Pacific railroad.
This is a very small museum, but the exhibits are very interesting. It focuses on the immigration of Chinese families and how they embraced their journey and their new country.
Very interesting history. Cool film & clothing. Wouldve liked more selections for souvenir purchases.
Amazing collection of Chinese heritage. Definitely a must see when you visit Chinatown. Please leave a donation
I went on a field trip with my high school. And out tour guide was a retired American professor. At first he was ok but then he started talking about how the chinese came to America and compared it to the immigrant situation right now. He made racist comments about the hispanic people coming to America to take our jobs and made coments about the wall as a hispanic I felt very discriminated and upset. If you give tours to high schools you should not tall about your opinions with the immigrant situation in America as it offends people.Apart from that the museum was very nice and informative about the chinese american culture and the staff were very kind.
Went here to get community service hours in high school. I was the only Asian that did not speak Mandarin and the instructor had to single me out just to give me the same instructions verbally in Cantonese.I wish they were more active in getting rid of the hoodlums that live in the condominium in Chinatown.
Small but extremely interesting and informative. The staff are very polite and proactive, we did enjoy our visit very much!
Small museum but its filled with interesting items with interesting backgrounds
Good presentation of Chinese history and diaspora in Chicago. Good variety of information, and testimonies.
Rehab of a 4 story apartment building with some not very interesting Chinese artifacts inside. Worth a look but if you spend an hour there I dont know what youre doing.
Great proud staff, answered questions, & showed 2 of 4 stories we had time to see & play video presentation, well worth $5 donation.
Great museum! Covers a large amount of history of Chinatown in Chicago would visit again
The caretakers are pleasant and very helpful. Very informative place.
Small but very good place. I like it.
Lots of history. Great people working there. Fantastic displays.
Its quite small, but if want to learn some about Chicago Chinese diaspora history, you may find some interesting info there.
The museum does an excellent job of both explaining the Chinese culture through the exhibition on three first floor and the Chinese migration from China to chicago on the second floor.
Me love you long time And love of my life
Small but mighty. The staff was very informative and welcoming
It was a little gem. It was good to know some history of the Chinese in Chicago.
