What a cool place to have the opportunity to explore and appreciate in Kitsap County. There are quite a lengthy network of trails that are well maintained. If youre lucky, you may get the chance to spot some owls. I was there near dusk in a dark area of the woods and I was greeted by three of them. So cool!
I love coming here. The trails are well maintained, its quite, and beautiful! HOWEVER the amount of people who let there dogs off leash here is truly insane. Today while out with my puppy I ran into three separate groups with more than one off leash dogs. I have a hound puppy.. she doesnt have great manners. One of the dogs we encountered literally tried to attack her (thankfully after he was put on a leash and no contact was made). Dont come here if you dont want to be approached by roaming dogs. Sucks.
Well maintained trail with new paths within the past year there seems to be no area with uneven ground. Fresh mulch is laid down throughout the year giving the trail a nice soft path. Every person I have encountered on the trail is pleasent. Just watch out for the cyclists they have all been respectful so far but there have been a few. The trail seems easy for small children or a jogging stroller if you have one. Overall the many different trails give options to come back multiple times to enjoy an easy stroll in the woods near the city.
Great times walking these trails. I love how wide most of them are. Makes it very easy and inviting :)
Out in fresh air, fall color and scents. Perfect get away right in town.....
I love how beautiful it is here. Great spot to walk your dog
This place looks amazing and I was so surprised to having the feeling of leaving the modern world behind just 5 minutes into walking the trails. Wish I could have spent more time.
Extremely relaxingVery fortunate to have this beautiful forest in our community
Love this trail! With so many different paths, you could go over and over again and still be in a new part of the preserve!
Its a nice place for a walk or light hike. The trails are a little mashed together and they end abruptly. I think when they started the park they had less land so they pushed as many trails into a single space as they could fit. All in all a really nice park and a great spot for bremerton.
Great place. Some road noise, cant be helped.
Its serenity is only broken when another adventurer passes you on 5he trail. Then its always the biggest how ya doin? Or having fun? Us too
It was my first time walking this Preserve. Its very lovely I like the fact that the trail has wood chips on it so it makes it very comfortable to walk. I would recommend to have a map because its very easy to get lost and I was with a group who traveled this Trail quite a bit. You can bring pets it is very marked
Great place to take the kids and the dog locally for a nature walk
Easy hike, great way to spend an hour or two without leaving town.
Wonderful place to get some exercise and fresh air. Perfect place to clear my head. I heard tree frogs and a barred owl today. Indian Plum and Salmonberry are in bloom.
Well maintained trails and facilities. Easy to navigate. Beautiful space to explore.
Trails are wide and well-groomed. Despite being bordered by a busy highway and a golf course, the park is quiet and full of ferns, mosses, and huckleberry bushes.
Great trail system. Trails are groomed, marked, well shaded and maps are provided. Great hikes for kids. There is a nice covered pavilion for picnicking as well. Did not see any drinking fountains so bring your own water.
We loved walking this trail! As a newbie, I recommend grabbing a map! The trail is long and winding and veers in different directions! Its amazing beauty would be nothing to get lost in. The trails are kept well cleaned, there are lots of places to stop and admire the landscape or just take a breath. I cant wait to come back! We took our dog, unfortunately not everyone listens to leash laws. The trail wasnt too busy and we were able to enjoy the solitude of the forest.
Want for a walk with my dog, pretty standard, ran into two people walking their dogs off leash. One of the two charged at my dog. It was not a nice walk. Otherwise the park is pretty and the trails are nice... Just watch out for bad pet owners who dont care about anything but their convenience.
I found a rock from Kitsap Rocks
Plenty of parking. Theres a very nice and clean pavilion with four picnic tables at the trailhead. Surprisingly, nobody was using it on a Sunday afternoon so we had a snack break after walking the trails. The trails are wide enough and clear enough to bring my two-year-old and four-year-old without fear of them getting separated from us. I also had them in a wagon and it was fairly easy to pull even though the trail is covered in wood chips. An all-terrain baby stroller would work great but definitely not a regular one. There werent as many people on the trail as i had anticipated would be on a weekend, but then again it was mid 80 degrees.
Large paved parking lot directly across from Kitsap Mental Health with several intertwining trails, all with wood chips for a nice path. Beautiful large picnic shelter donated by American Legion. Fun to read about everything theyve done to get/maintain this preserve, plus all they plan to do in the future with more funding. Very nice to have a beautiful quiet place to walk with leashed pets right in East Bremerton.
I like how accessible the park is. I also like the diversity of forestry camping and beach walking/boat launch docking available in the same location. The view on clear days is great to.
This is a great place for casual walks to short hikes. It has small wildlife, mostly birds and bugs, that kids love, and if into flora and fauna, can become a small lesson in names or how ants build homes. (Or how caterpillars turn into butterflies, or....) Since it is a forest, if walking in a light rain you dont get drenched, or its a cool spot on a hot day. If youre a newbie, there are trail maps at the main parking lot.
As a preserve it is pretty great. You got just a nice slice of forest in an otherwise urban developed area. Its nice to visit a spot that is able to get oneself secluded from the bustle of city life. Located in a nice little corner, it is also easy to get lost on the many trails that have been carved into the forest. I would recommend taking a picture of the trail map before diving in and thus navigating using the numbered markers found all within; or you can take the fun route with an hour or two and get lost. That being said, its so small that getting lost may be anxiety inducing easy but practically difficult and you will pop out one of the many egress points, that is if you miraculously avoid encountering anyone else who is walking a dog or enjoying a nice stroll. The past are nicely defined over the many thousands of people over the years walking the paths and they are kindly enough to have mulch added to them, making a nice soft padding for trail joggers. With picnic areas setup around the egress/ingress points it could be a nice place for a lite picnic date and stroll or a family bonding with a bit of food. Its not a park, as there are little areas to lounge and relax and the trails are for traffic only. And golly dies it smell great.
My dogs favorite place to sniff
This is a lovely, quiet forest preserve and nature trail perfect for families. Parking is free and there is good information at the trail head. Trails are well marked and groomed. Great for sort or long hikes through the woods.
Affected me emotionally.
Great local hike. Lots of paths to choose from for a short walk to a moderately long walk.
Trails are well maintained...
Great place to go walking or for a short run with your best friend. The bad thing is they put wood chips on all the trails can make it very difficult to walk or run on them, and impossible to ride a bike. I used to like to go here after work for a quick couple loops on my bike but I can no longer do that.
Nice walking trail. Great for families with younger kids
Hidden gem! So cool how this gorgeous little patchwork of trails is located behind a chunk of concrete housing a Fred Meyer. Perfect for a jog, stroll with the pup, or a nature walk with kiddos. Well-kept trails that zigzag through pretty nature, what more can ya say?
A beautiful park, I got lost but thats what I was looking for. I had a great time, the woods were fantastic and very photogenic. Also all the puppies were amazing. Just a wonderful park and very well located for woods where you arent around city sounds and a place to relax
I thought the trail was beautiful, and it was a fun challenge to follow the map and find the markers. I will go again, but probably with someone, because I let my imagination go a little and it was a little scary being alone with all of those creaking trees.
As a resident in the old growth private side, I have some suggestions for new hikers. Firstly; there is a great interactive PDF you can download and not worry about reception or other issues. Secondly, know and follow the borders of the preserve itself. If you pass a gate (opened or closed) it is private property . And remember, that the forest is made of wood AND the biomass in the ground is flammable. Please be careful and cautious. CAREful is the key. Thank you and enjoy. Its not what everyone has available in their lives. Say yes to adventure and look up not back.
Great place for a run or just to get out and enjoy nature!
This is a great place to go for a walk with your dog or sit at a bench and have a picnic.
Great area. Lots of trails and markers. Definitely take a picture of the map before you start. Mostly flat, easy walking.
Its like hiking through the mountains without having to drive to the mountains. Nice shady trails, at least 10° cooler than the parking lot.
Great place, that is peaceful and good place to take your dog for a walk on the trails, good sense of outdoor adventure !!!
The trails are awesome with sometimes ambiguous directions. Makes one think theyre actually exploring unknown territory. Excellent parking also
Nicely maintained trails but still very in the woods feeling! Great trail run!
Great nature preserve. Grab a map on your way in so you dont get lost.
Best place for the beach and kayak launches! Wildlife and easy access for a fun day.
Great wooded space with lots of walking trails right in the middle of town. No restrooms so go before you visit.
Nice place to walk but people dont clean up after their dogs so watch you step
Great trails, but a little creepy to visit on a weekday. Not very many people there and not everyone who was there was someone I felt safe around.
Excellent trails, plenty of up and down. Makes for nice walks in the trees.
One of the best trail networks in the county. Its close to civilization but theres enough mileage back here to get lost. There are thick tunnels of brush and large woodland clearing to enjoy. Lots of native species including mushrooms can be found.
Good place for a hike. Not too enjoyable for a bike though.
The trails are well maintained and its a beautiful relief in from the concrete of Bremerton. Its by no means an adventurous hike, but as a nature walk or running trail its lovely. Great place for the doggos, as well.
Magical and amazing
No bathrooms that I saw but nice paths. No camping allowed but they have picnic tables at the entrance .
Great trail for a quick hike that isn’t too challenging. Nice wide trails with lots of mulch for even stepping. The only downside is it is very confusing with all the turns and it’s easy to get disoriented. I highly recommend taking a picture of the map at the trail entrance.
Love the trails walk and environment, awesome work done here
Nice place to just look at and feel the forest breeze
Miles of trails! You can actually get lost here. Very little trash, packed some out. Would be 5* with wildlife preserve area open.
Wonderful trails, a great place to take a stroll and relax.
A tip for navigating the trails: take a pic of the trail map before going in. Most intersections are numbered. When you get to the first intersection take note of the number. Go in the direction of your choice, and when you get to your next intersection find that intersections number on the map, as well. the intersection number you came from previously. That should give you a point of reference. The map still can be confusing, and there are a few unmarked intersections.Anyway, nice getaway from the suburbs.
Great nice trails
This is a great little trail system just outside Bremerton city limits. Its a shame that the caretakers keep piling wood chips on the trails. Makes it impossible for anyone but hikers and Runners to use the trails. Surely not ADA Compliant. Its a shame as the main trails were great for everyone before putting the wood chips.
Its a very nice walk, pretty easy trail (depending on which turn you make). It is a bit hard to keep track of where youre going because of the amount of different routes to take without really a main trail if that makes sense. But it is very pleasant and you always end up back at the parking lot no matter what because its a small size trail.
Great tucked in little park.
This is a great taste of the Northwest. This biodiverse nature preserve is a great place to go relax, rejuvenate, and even research. The abundance of nature here rewards the quiet hiker.
Nice walking trails.
Not crowded, hidden gem.
Great trail for walking your pup. Be sure to bring your own water for your dogs.
Trails are pretty well maintained, markers are easy to understand. There are no maps or references once you are in the trails other than sign posts which name 4 features in certain directions. The turns/straightaways of the trails do not match the map, and the scale was off based on my relative position to a city street that shows on the trail map and Google with GPS. GPS was accurate because I could see the street. There is primarily a large loop trial with entrances spiking off, so you wont get lost even with those issues. The greenery is beautiful and largely untouched other than the trail itself, would be 5 stars if the trails were as easy to use as the Grand Forest on nearby Bainbridge Island.
Quiet, and beautiful spot in our backyard. There is a covered pavilion with tables also!
The road into this is private property. With security enterance. Please use caution walking trails, many homeless camping in that area.Thank you
Great trails for dogs and kids.
We had a great time
Great place for getting out in nature, pup and child friendly trails. Take a picture of the trail map with you, just in case :-)
We love taking the dog for long walks through here. A peaceful and quiet way to connect with nature.
One of the most peaceful spots in the area. Be nice and clean up your messes!
Great trails. I enjoyed a nice little hike with my daughter.
Wonderfully vast in diverse wildlife. Sunrise/sunset see the deer. Many views of preserve to be enjoyed.
We always have a nice time here.
