A lot of famous people Rest In Peace in this graveyard. Especially those that had major contributions to the creation of this great country! It’s a must visit!! Take the tour and follow the footsteps of Paul Revere! The grave I’m standing in front of! God bless him & may he Rest In Peace! This city is all historical! This is just one of dozens of history buffs to visit!

History lies buried here. Not a place for the uninitiated. If you dont know history and do not respect Americas founders - There isnt very much for you to do here. This is a historic graveyard. Many notable revolutionaries. But not Washington or Jefferson - The most commonly known ones. You have to know your history to honor those who lay buried. Kudos to City of Boston for preserving this.

So cool to visit the graves of such important historical characters such as Paul Revere, John Hancock, The Franklins, and Sam Adams! Definitely worth a visit even if you dont go along the whole freedom trail. Also, theres a man who hands out his own private guides as you enter which are really cool to read as you walk around.

Love taking people here in the summer to see some historic gravestones. There is an individual who usually stands at the entrance during busy summer months and hands out guides he put together himself! I certainly recommend taking one- just remember to give it back at the end of your walk.

The Granary is one of the earliest grave sites in America that is easily accessible and very early on the Freedom Trail. Graves of John Hancock, Samuel Adams, Benjamin Franklin and his wife, and other key figures in the early formation of the country are interred here. For someone interested in history, it is a whos-who from the early days.It is interesting to see the various headstones and monuments with the adornments. As you walk through you get a good feel for the people who lived in Boston in the very early days. There was a gentleman at the front of the burial ground handing out folders of information to use as you walk through the paths, but he is not affiliated with the city or national parks.

The Granary Burying Ground dates to 1660 and is one of the most important historical cemeteries in Boston. Open from 9am to 5pm and located Tremont Street, near the northeast end of the Boston Common. This is the most interesting of the three cemetery attractions included on the Freedom Trail. There are important historical figures including John Hancock, Samuel Adams, Robert Treat Paine, Paul Revere as well as the five victims of the Boston Massacre. You can also see a obelisk monument marking the location of Benjamin Franklins parents resting place. You can stop by the Granary Burying Ground and conveniently see the important headstones and monuments in 10-15 minutes before being on your way to other sightseeing stops on the Freedom Trail.Note: If short on time, this is the burying ground that wed choose to visit first over that of the Kings Chapel and Copps Hill cemeteries.

Peaceful place in the heart of the city’s hustle and bustle. I contemplated while reading the gravestone markers, most of what I read were of people who died young. Unfortunately this cemetery closes at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday and we did not get to enter as the two security guards were just locking the gates. We just viewed it through the fence and we were so disappointed we did not get to stroll up and down the paths to read all these headstones. At least we did get to see Sam Adams headstone which can be seen through the fence. Next time in Boston we would make a point to get to this cemetery during the visiting hours as it is something to see! Highly recommend to check the web site for the hours of this cemetery.

This review is a bit out of date as I last visited the place in October 2017. Great place for history buffs, lots of fascinating history here. A handful of well know individuals and families are buried here. However, I was disappointed at the lack of accessibility to many of the gravestones. Many are located away from the paths and have extremely intricate designs that one would not want to miss. At most places you can venture onto the grass but apparently here they do not allow it to prevent damage. Additionally, many of the stones were extremely filthy, covered in years of dirt. A thorough cleaning would go a long way. A great spot but a ton of room for improvement!

Shops, bars and restaurants are all within a few minutes walk of here. Worth wandering into if youre passing from the Common to Faneuil Hall.
