I always love to walk the boardwalk which now has been made one way because of the pandemic. Easy walk for very young and old or disabled. No dogs allowed.
A great nature and hiking area to take kids. There are wide open paths for the inexperienced or little wanderers, and you can spend hours poking around in beautiful scenery that way. The elevated wooden paths really feel like going on an adventure and my son just loved it all. There are also fairly well maintained trails up the hills nearby. The elevation gain is not too severe but enough to get your heart rate going. Again, my five year old was okay.Check out Jewel Lake (pictures below) for ducks, turtles and the occasional frog. Or go the other way to Little Farm and feed the cows.We went in Spring and the only real downside was the amount of poison oak just next to the trails.
A great place for kids! Bring celery to feed the animals. Its fun to walk around the loop and see, pet and feed all the animals (cows, bunnies, sheep, chicks etc). We took a picnic and just ate on the lawn. Theres also a playground right by the parking lot that the kids loved. The visitor center has fun exhibits for kids as well. A wonderful place to spend a day.
We usually combine little farm with merry-go-round and steam train. First stop is little farm. If you want to feed the animals, bring your own lettuce and celery. Then we go to the merry-go-round and/or steam train. These two open at 11am/noon
Great place to bring young children to visit farm animals! Be sure to bring lettuce and celery to feed the animals.
Amazing nature area. For toddlers, there is the little farm as well as the steam train that rides through the redwoods. About half a mile from the little farm, theres a lake. If you bring rain boots, its great for exploring with toddlers and looking for tadpoles.
So much fun! Go early for parking and also the animals will be nice and hungry. Take alot of lettuce and celery it goes quick. The farm is perfect for people of all ages and the animals were super friendly!
So many wonderful places to stroll or hike. Doing the hike around Lake Anza is one of my favorite spots. Dog on leash friendly. There are also lots of spots you can stop at, like this little waterfall area and just relax and take in the beautiful views. Also, its a short drive away from the little farm which makes it all the better. :)
Beautiful place for small kids, adults will have fun too. Clean friendly staff. Petting farm, small museum, playground. Lots of picnic areas. The best was the steam train ride and station.
Tilden is an incredible park. The Nature Area and Little Farm are fantastic for kids. Lots of great information and a beautiful friendly farm to visit and interact with the animals. Jewel Lake is also a quick walk from the Nature Area.
Great place to hike ans also to just enjoy the little farm. Has a small playground for the little ones to enjoy.
We visited the little farm! How awesome! Bring kids, celery (or a head of iceberg lettuce) and prepare for a great experience. We had a blast!
One of the best places in the bay area. I love to come here for running, hiking, swimming in the lake, and feeling inspired by nature.
This place is just awesome on so many levels
Visited on a monday afternoon, little farm area was very quiet and peaceful. Loved the free parking and free admission. Definitely recommend for adults and kids
The little farm at tilden is a wonderful place for kids and families
Brought my kids to the Little Farm and they loved it. They had about 5 cows and thats all we cared to see since my two year old is currently fixated on cows. Great farm.
A great friendly place for children and adults. Feed cows, goats, geese and chickens (celery and lettuce only), take a walk around beautiful tiny Jewel Lake and see animal tracks in the mud on the shore, or visit the Nature Center and learn all about the local floranand fauna, and some history too!
Nice easy hikes, and a little petting zoo. A pond, and a nice boardwalk through a wetland brush.
This park is amazing. Not only beautiful, but a fun place to visit with the whole family. We have enjoyed several Saturdays in Tilden park and were eager to go back. A few highlights include:The merry-go-roundPetting zoo and visitors centerThe steam trainsIf youre a local, dont miss out on visiting this park!
Great place for a fun family day. Our favorite is the little farm where you can feed cows, goats and ducks lettuce and celery, but we also like the Carousel, and the steam train!
So close to crazy, yet so far away. Great place to get lost on nature
Great open park with lots of activities to do
The kids really enjoyed the nature walks and the petting zoo. Overall a good family experience. Y
So beautiful with lots to explore, and if you climb to the top, you are rewarded with spectacular views! Parking can be a bit challenging, so pack your patience and be careful.
This park is beautiful! A nice place for short or longer hikes. The naturalists on staff were great with my kids. It was both educational and fun.
One of the last gems for free or cheap in the bay area (merry-go-round and steam train cost a few bucks to ride)...the tilden farm is free-make sure to bring celery to feed the sheep, goats and cows
Awesome park with many options to spend your day. From nature hikes, to a Merry go round, to a petting zoo to a steam train. Lots to do here
Fun place with lot of activities to do for children and adults. Kids really enjoyed train ride, merry go round, and feeding farm animals. Don’t forget to take lettuce and celeries with you to feed farm animals.
Still as much fun now as it was when I was a kid! My kiddos had a blast!
Great for all ages
It was a great day! Students had a great time exploring and hiking.
Great nature area, lots to do and see and trails to walk!! The Little Farm is awesome!! Cows and pigs and chickens and ducks and goats and bunnies!!
Beautiful day walks
If you have kids they will love it!
Ive been going here since I was a child, also took my kids here when they were younger. This place never disappoints!
Wonderful place! Be sure to go to the Little Farm to see and feed the animals. You can only bring lettuce or celery for the cows and goats, as they are on a veterinary diet. Cows love the celery!
Meadow Canyon trail - the grasses are ripe, and the mustard and thistle are blooming.
Theres something for everyone. Farm animals, easy walks, and a little more challenging walks. Great views and diverse trails.
Great place to hike and beat the heat . we found this on the all trails app, with it being so hot outside this is a great way to cool down . found a perfect web .
Went here for a movie in the park and to walk my dog good trails and they have a small animal farm you can visit! Just bring sleeves it can get chilli good parking and a little park for the kiddies!
Great day trip with the kids! They loved the steam train, the lake, and playing in the nature area. Beautiful place with amazing views of the bay!
The food was awesome! And not too long of a wait...
The animals were nice and you can feed them with lettuce or celery
My kids loved it here. They have a petting zoo as week.
Lots of fun especially for families plus educational 5 stars all the way
So darn pretty
You can get any level of hiking, mountain biking or running for long distance. Its a very friendly trails, not too much challenges even for small kids or animals lovers. Love it.
How can you rate nature less than 5/5? Nice walking area, nice little farm. If you being your kids, make sure to bring some fresh celery to feed the cows n goats.
This is a wonderful park. The farm and animals are great for the kids. The nature trails to the dam and grounds are great. I saw turtles, ducks, geese, deer and squirrels this time. I also saw wild turkeys on a previous visit.
Beautiful. After a rain, Inspiration Point is a good place to hike out of the mud: paved roads keep you mud-free (also good for pushing a stroller!). But on hot days, beware: the asphalt can get hot on dogs paws. Pit toilets at the trailhead are a bonus, and usually clean. Parking is limited, so be prepared to park along the road and walk on sunny weekends. Best to get there early to avoid crowds.
Great hiking and biking
Really Nice Natural Park with free entry to the little farm, great for kids where they can feed big cows and pigs among other animals. There are picnic tables with grills (coil fueled). Parking is free
Bring lettuce when you come to Little Farm, only the cows really like celery. Celery is better for the cows though to avoid getting slurped by their huge tongues. Goats will eat celery too on weekdays or if you come early enough on the weekend. Keep straw hats away from the goats if you want to keep them! For nervous little ones, the sheep are probably the best to start with. Smaller than the cows, less aggressive than the goats, quieter then the birds. The pigs dont usually seem interested in the offerings. Photo is of sheep but shows goat damage to hat.
Nature so close with the city below, love it️
Cows and other creatures. A beautiful visitor center. Your kiddos will love it.
Great place to take your kids and enjoy the day with nature and farm animals
A great heron at the shrinking Jewel Lake.
I love Tilden park. Its huge! Beautiful for hiking by the river or up to the ridges with amazing views. Good runs, little farm for the kids. Love love love.
The views and hiking are quite amazing!
Great place for the little ones! Too my 1.5 year old here and he loved it. Bring food for the animals. He was scared if the cows at first, but loved walking around and feeding all the animals. There were 15 one week old piglets there too!
What a beautiful place. Go at sunrise/sunset for an unforgettable view
Nice to visit, make sure tou use the bathroom beforehand!
As a kid, I loved riding the model railroad railroad train, the ponies and the merry-go-round. As an adult, I still like the rides, but I absolutely love running the huge labyrinth of trails through out Tilden Park, especially the Nature Area with my running club, the Hash House Harriers.
It is a really nice place.
Well maintained small farm and museum. At the Little Farm people can view farm animals up close. They have cows, pigs, sheep, goats, chickens, ducks, and geese. Plus wild turkeys roam nearby. The staff are very helpful. The museum has a great exhibit about the local environment and its history. There is also art on display and special programs run by the staff. Its all a great place for a family or nature-lovers to visit.
Perfect spot for children! The little farm and beautiful hike made for the perfect day!
I got the fortunate pleasure us hiking this fabulous State Park. Highly recommended to anyone that wishes to hike and enjoy the nature
Great place for a stroll, walk dog in leash, bike, great easy walk with awesome views. Take your family here for a picnic, plenty of benches
Lovely place for a hike with well marked hikes and good parking and facilities all over
Great place to walk, hike, and ride bikes.
Great place to bring children. The farm animals are easy to see and kids love to feed them. Jewel lake is a lovely walk from the visitor center and on occasion there will be wild turkey the kids can see. Currently, there are baby pigs and they are so cute.
Wow! what a find. For someone devoted to Mt. Tam, Tilden has been a revelation. Easy to get to, with miles of hiking both strenuous and not. While the park is generally family friendly, a few minutes of hiking will bring quiet and solitude.Happiness!
Little farm is a great place to bring kids - can feed the cows/goats/sheep if you bring lettuce or celery (also fun for adults too!)
Gotta Love The Great Outdoors!
Beautiful and varied park. Great for hiking, trail running, and lots of stuff for kids. Ive been going there for years and seem to discover something new every time. One thing I cant discover- a cell signal
The little farm is my favorite.
Amazing place to take your kids (petting and feeding cows and sheep), but also awesome if you love quiet hikes through nature. Many looping trails to choose from!
Very fun to see the farm animals. There was a HUGE mommy pig with 12 (!) Baby piglets. ...so cute. Also fun to watch the people - kids interact with the animal-kids.
Nice. But really the most enjoyable during the week.Definitely a bother on the weekends.
Great place to go if your into nature.
If youre looking for a animal farm, place to jump in a fresh water lake, a mini choo-choo train, or simply a run in the woods, look no further. Tilden has it all.
I have been coming to here since I was a little kid it was my favorite park in the 90s. now its unbelievably amazing it has come a long way and is one of the most spectacular botanical gardens in the East Bay for California natives. I take my son here as much as I can, we have to travel all the way from Vallejo.
Excellent free activity for children of all ages. Be sure to bring lettuce and celery! After feeding the animals, we sometimes take a walk to Jewel Lake for snacks or lunch by the water.
Saw some wildlife and great trails!
This place is awesome! It is so close to anybody living in Oakland, Berkeley, Orinda, etc, and just a wonderful place to escape City Life and hug a tree LOL! I love going on my own to the petting zoo, carousel, and various places like the steam train. Just an excellent place to unwind, take a drive, for your mind. Love it!
I’ve been going to this park my whole life and still love it. There are a wide variety of trails suitable to all ages and beautiful scenery to boot. And you can’t forget the Little Farm, I’m loving being able to bring my son here!
Cute farm and small museum. Perfect play date outing with my toddler!
