Great views of The Bay from north Berkeley. Technical Climbing/Bouldering available, as well as easy-going steps to the top.
Eh. It was alright, but it’s really small. Sure the view was pretty good, but I guess I was expecting more? I suppose if you’ve never been before, it’s worth checking it out, but since I’ve already seen all kinds of great views of the Bay Area, it wasn’t that appealing to me
There are steps for non-climbers who would like to get a nice of the bay. Great for meditation, or a simple lunch.. or just a stop to take a breath. Parking is bit tough.. tight small streets in a residential neighborhood.
I usually come to watch the sunsets, but my kids love crawling and climbing the rocks. The view is perfect with the sun setting close to the bridge during fall/winter seasons. It gets crowded, but nothing to complain about. Just make sure to watch your kids and not have them throw anything from the top because other people are bouldering down below.
Fun problems, easy access, great place to just hang out. If your not into bouldering come for the view using the stairs to get to the top.
Great bouldering, great views, great scenery. Indian Rock is a great destination for a casual walk or a fun climb.
I had a little trouble climbing up. I do not have good balance so I felt uncomfortable (Ive had some health issues recently). Im overweight and over 50). My husband and daughter were fine. On a clear day it is a great view. Walk up Indian Rock Path from The Alameda at Solano Ave. Or you can drive up to it.
Great spot over Berkeley. Practice rock climbing on one side, or sit & stare over a great view towards SF bay on a big rock.
Great place to see sunset as well as get a view of SF and golden gate bridge!
Best public view of the Bay from around here. Secluded private spaces.
Nice walk following the path between homes and climbing the Rock to see the bay.
Cool little urban park on the north side of Berkeley climb the rocks for a nice view of the bay
Nice little park with views of the bay. Has some nice boulders for a quick session.
Little isolated rock... just to sit, chill, and enjoy the view....
Cool looking rock, great place to hangout and enjoy the view!! #BeinKids
Great place to watch sunsets! It’s a short drive from UC Berkeley. It gets pretty crowded in summer. It’s a solid piece of a monolithic rock. Fortunately there are roughly hewn steps that make the climb very easy. Sadly people had left behind plenty of litter. Empty beer bottles, plastic cups and plates.
I cant get enough of this rock! I love the opportunity to hone my rock climbing skills. The community of individuals whom frequent the rock are absolutely phenomenal. The view of the San Francisco Bay is gorgeous. Highly, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
One star off for sheer parental fear as your kid scales a rock with no safety equipment whatsoever.Otherwise, fantastic views. Keep in mind, loads of college aged kids seemingly omnipresent at all times of day.
Fantastic views of the Bay! Gorgeous sunsets. And Venus and Mercury 5-20-2020
Great view at top of this giant rock. Very easy climb, family friendly.
Always a great spot. Usually for sunset. Today for the fireworks on 4th of July!
Great views fun rock.
Love this little big rock outcropping in the Berkeley Hills. Wonderful views of the bay and superb rock scrambling and bouldering opportunities for all ages and skillsets.
Nice place to hang out and enjoy the views.
Be aware there are no gaurd rails on rock! Not for anyone old or young who arent confident and sure footed. Also, there are stairs carved into the east side and the west side. West side is much easier. We didnt realize this when we first arrived. My 4 year old was able to make it up and down but it was a bit sketchy on the east stairs. Wonderful view of SF Bay.
It’s cold on the rocks edge but so freaking awesome!
This place is an amazing natural surprise in the middle of Berkeley. I lived here a year before I knew about it. Now we go here all the time. Easy climbs, great for the kids (not too little) to run wild. Great views of SF and the Bay.
Great view! On the weekends it can be quite a busy place. Kids just love to play and climb here. There are also more smaller rocks further up the hill.
Its a fun place to be and to hang out with other people. You have a nice view when you are on top of the rocks.
This place is really nice. Its like a miniature park. We listened to some local musicians playing there. Its a bit of work to get to the top. The view is worth it.
You can enjoy a beautiful view from San Francisco. Indian Rock Park is located in Berkeley, CA
Beautiful and so enjoyable for the entire family. Spectacular View
Nice rock! Small park but fairly forresty for all that. On a hill: no place for croquet or other flat sports. Stairs and trails.
Great view, and its just a 30 minute walk from downtown Berkeley. There are other rocks close by that are interesting.
I love you, very pretty
Super pretty park in the Berkeley hills. Great panoramic view of the surrounding area. Cute spot to hang or maybe chat with a date
Wonderful place to overlook the city on a clear day. You can see downtown and most of the bay. Gets kinda busy during sunset.
Pretty views of the city and bay when its clear. Steps in the rock make getting up less challenging (my 68 y.o. parents were able to get up and down at dusk with low visibility). Some ppl like to practice bouldering here, too.
Its a lovely, big rock with great views of the bay and easy trails to it. A local fav.
Great view of the Bay, SF, Oakland. Climbing up is fun, and would recommend visiting during sunset hours. It looks like a secluded place in the middle of a residential area. You might have to wait and roam around to find street parking.
The view is perfect with the sun setting close to the bridge during fall/winter seasons.
Nice bit of nature in the middle of suburbs. Had steps carved in some places, so easy to climb up one of the giant rocks. Great view at the top. Interesting little cave in one area. Had a water fountain and bench nearby too
I have been coming here since I was a child. Great place to climb and explore for people of all ages.Nice views and a little off the beaten path most people know.I highly recommend for stress relief
A little bit of ancient Berkeley within established north Berk neighborhood.Great bay views if you want to climb it...There are steps!
Very nice even at night, however it was crowded .
This cherished Berkeley bouldering spot has so much to offer. Ascend the gently sloping stairs to the top for breathtaking views of the city, stargaze by night, its one of the best places to catch a meteor shower, or bring that special date. Then test yourself on legendary boulder problems that once tempted climbing greats. No matter what, you will not be disappointed! But please be respectful of the neighbors, and clean up your trash.
Its a beautiful place to watch a sunset. Its a bit crowded but it was beautiful.
Great view of bay area, Okland downtown and san Francisco.. the route to get there is little confusing but if u follow google maps, it will take you there..Solid rock in middle of residental area and a little advanture.. Going through Barkley old Town is the best drive ..
Amazing place to chill on the rock. Not too crowded. Great view. Peaceful.
Amazing view of the Bay and the old Golden Gate. A peaceful spot to get in touch with the self inner.
Best place for Sunset gazing.
I lined the park, especially to see the sunset.
Great view of the Bay, SF, Oakland and on a clear day, San Mateo as well. Easy to access from the UC Berkeley campus while walking, without having to climb uphill a lot. There is a certainly an ascend involved, just a shallower one than going uphill. Good place to see fireworks over SF on New Years or Independence Day.
Cool rocks and great view
Large rock outcropping in the Berkeley hills. Great for easy climbing and rock scrambling. Beautiful views. Kids will love it. Its not the cleanest rock, as it does attract a lot of people. Watch out for broken glass, though it is much better than it used to be. Great for bouldering too. And be sure to check out the small parks across and up the street. They are fun too.
The best place to hike!
Great views from this interesting large rock in the midst of the Berkeley hills homes.
Scenic place. Juts over the Bay and has a great view
Amazing views
One of the best views in all of Berkeley. Sitting atop Solano, you can enjoy the avenue and then bring a picnic to Indian Rock and relax. Also, if youre into bouldering, its a renowned spot.
Nice view of the bay. The park is very small - just one big rock. I was expecting the park to be much larger.
The view up here
Extremely fun to climb around on the rocks. Fantastic view
Cool spot in a nice neighborhood. I have always wanted to visit & glad I finally made the trip because the view is awesome. Took the little path down to Solano Ave afterwards
Great place to walk to & enjoy outside play w/ nature
Great little spot, if you want to rock climb off the side . or the casual hang out at the top of the rock. There is a easy walk up, or an adventurous trek up . choose wisely
Love this place. Great place to take friends that are visiting, enjoy a pizza pie from The Cheeseboard, or just come to sit quietly and reflect. Indian Rock offers one of the Bay Areas beautifully iconic views of the Bay, which makes it a popular place for family and couples portraits, but come on the days when tourism is less likely.
Beautiful place to see the sunshine.
One of my fav places for watching the sunset
Take a date or just sit and meditate while the sun sets. Fantastic views of the bay, great place to sit and just talk until it gets dark and you have to stumble down the stairs. It can get chilly here on cold days, but nice and warm in the summer. Parking is usually pretty available nearby, much to the local homeowners chagrin.
Great spot
Great spot. Keep hoping for a day thats not so hazy, but still a nice view!
Great climbing for most ability levels, and nice views. A bit crowded.
Is a special hidden gem over Berkeley. Not to far away from Downtown. You can literally see the entire Bay from there.
Great view!
Beautiful views. Fun climbing, even if some is highball the high parts are very easy. Great traverse around the whole vertical area.
Fun for kids, street parking
Indian Rock features a nice solid rock rounded pinnacle with crudely hewn steps on two opposite sides. It has a nice primitive feel in contrast to the polished North Berkeley residences that surround it. I like to take the road up to it and the Indian Rock Path - a well-tended footpath - down to The Alameda.
A neat little place. Should be aware there are some steep areas that kids should be watched closely.
Great view! Stairs carved into rock help get to the top easier.
Great quick climb for any level of climbers
An amazing and memorable night under the sky and meteor shower. You get a view of the three big cities. A must if youre in the area.
Great set of rocks for simple unskilled climbs, bouldering and abseiling (rappelling). Great views out over the bay.
Not only one of the best viewing spots in the East Bay for locals and in the know tourists, but Indian Rock has rock climbing faces, steps carved right into the rock leading to the top, and two rock features which one is well known, (The Chief’s Head) and the other, (The California Bear) is hidden right in front/behind of most people who never notice it while they are literally sitting on it. Look opposite of the Bay and toward the left. That’s all the clues. I am going to leave it a mystery for you to discover as part of your adventure to Indian Rock! I have been going to Indian Rock for 33 years and after all that time I never saw the second hidden feature until my 3 year old points to the top of the rock and says, “Bear.” Okay no more clues. Go check it out!

Beautiful views from on top of the rock
Very easy climb to the top to amazing bay view.
Number one rock in Berkeley.
Nice view here. Giant rock for climbing!
