Must stop and see this painted rocks dedicated to the army units
Lived at Fort Irwin from 2014-2016. The painted rocks are a really cool, unique, and artsy memorial to the many units who have come and trained at Fort Irwin before going off to butcher brown skinned people. We can only hope that one day this place will be regarded the same way as Manzanar, Dachau, Golgotha, or one other innumerable monuments to mankinds evil and lust to destroy each other.
Great to be back here after saying I never wanted to see this place again. These rocks were amazing too revisit some 15 years later after my last rotation to NTC. Many units have left a mark on these rocks and it is a must stop and walk around icon outside the gate. Brought back a lot of pride seeing some of the units I served in. Make the trip up and come see this.
My husband and I randomly landed here after getting lost during a camping trip. It was a nice surprise as I never knew this memorial existed. The rocks are elaborately painted and when the sun is setting its absolutely breathtaking. Im not sure the history but it looks like it is tied to the military and honoring the divisions that serve our country.
This spot in Fort Irwin reminds me of my one of favorite experiences in the Army Reserve. A battle buddy and I were placed on a detail to support the Best Warrior Competition. The sergeant majors were really cool and the friends I met on the detail made my experience enjoyable. Wish I could say that about most of my other drill weekends.
This place is simply awe inspiring! I just happened upon it but what a pleasant surprise!
Cool concept. Great addition to the FT. Irwin welcome sign.
It was hot and those rocks are just painted rocks
Amazing tribute to the units that ha e come through NTC
Entrance to the Ft Irwin Military Base. Each of the rocks outside the main entrance are painted to commemorate actual groups that rotate through the base once a year for a month at a time of training.
Very nice to see on the drive to Irwin. Lot of history of all the units that have come and gone.
5 tours at NTC. Convoyed past these rocks coming from/going to railhead in Barstow many times. Seems like they were always changing patches.
This place paints a vivid history of all the units that have trained at Fort Irwin. A reminder of the tradition and pride of the Armed Forces.
This is so cool to see - so many of our military men and women have passed through this National Training Center. The desert is gorgeous this year due to lots of rain.
So fun my daughter loves going! And visiting the painted rocks!!!
Great historic landscape. Out of the way but worth the visit.
If you know where I am...I know where youve been...I know where youre going...I know youll be back.
This makes your heart swell and extremely proud to be an American.
A lil history with each NTC trip.
The greatest place on earth because seeing it typically means you are leaving the set of Mad Max aka Fort Irwin
I love passing those rocks while leaving Fort Irwin.
Awesome place to go see and visit
Very cool landmark showing Army units that have completed a rotation through NTC.
A tribute to all who have trained st the National Training Center, Fort Irwin, California.

Was enjoyable to return 19 years later and see unit crest still painted on rock. Nice trip down memory lane.
Was cool to see all the rotations painted rocks.
The Rocks are awesome to see, but are not worth being in the Mojave desert to see.
Its a bunch of painted battalion/ division rocks in the middle of the desert.
Is a public and open space free and very safe controled by the army
Really interesting story behind all these rocks nice place to visit but a long ways away
Thoughtful and interesting. Take time to stop and think about what you see.
Fort Irwins very own National Monument.
Walk down memory lane touching to see some rocks have become monuments for the fallen soldiers can be a little emotional. But good experience overall for the history lesson and kids to see.
