Ive lived in Barstow most of my life. And for the love of me have not gone to see. But I will one day soon.
Stopped while in town to get information about new places to explore in the dessert. The nice lady working that day was quite helpful and gave me some ideas of new places to check out. The museum is free to get in and has some interesting artifacts from ice-age bones, native Americans and mines. If you are looking to kill some time while traveling the 40 or just local museums, its worth a stop.
Amazing little place that has a ton of historical info and artifacts from the area. I was amazed that it had so much cool stuff crammed into such a small place. It is right off of I-15 (where I saw a small sign) but its easily missed. If you are through Barstow take the time to stop and see how amazing this little part of the desert actually is!
Been a member for years. This museum is the best in the Desert. Fantastic book section. Full of history and educational items. Great place to take the family.
Barstow, Calif.Mojave river museum is small, local joint. Main showcases are local flair.Highlights are the high school accomplishments, couple locals, african american role in the city and bunch of nature things like rocks and wildlife.Native american roots are also highlighted. This museum has a variety of things explaining how or what barstow was except for a pitstop for the trains or travelers heading to or away from los angeles. The museum feels a bit cluttered and is good for kids.Location: ARight off the I-15 Freeway.Mojave museum is on the Southwest corner of Barstow & E Virginia.Roads/Parking: APlenty parking on rough road.Cost: AFree.Overall: ANothing to travel thousands of miles for. Ideal if your commuting to/from vegas or to/from grand canyons to so cal.Notable nearbys:Down the street located at the Harvey House are Rte 66 Museum, Train museum and planet exhibition.Back way to Big Bear, Morongo/Palm Springs and Fort Irwin.Nearby on the same street is the Discovery/Geology Museum and Historic DT Barstow where Roys cafe and bunch of Rte 66 signs are.Barstow also has a huge outlets that is famous for Asian tourists.Safe traveling.@cigarcpa.
