Near by the fire station is a memorial dedicated to the firefighters of 9/11. Near by at walking distance there is an old tank, one train wagon and the Mojave River museum.

Its a good place. Its the fire department and they do a very good job with what they do.

In a throwback to the days of kitschy Route 66 attractions, Barstow has erected a giant fire fighter helmet outside of its fire station. What moves this beyond being a tourist trap is that it is a memorial to the firefighters who died in New York during the 9/11 attacks. It is located just a few seconds off the 15 freeway so if you wish to take a moment to reflect on the sacrifice of those brave men and women, pull off and visit.
