70s SOUL JAM @ MODELL PERFORMING ARTS CENTER at the LYRIC BALTIMORE, MD. THE BEST 70S SHOW IVE SEEN IN A LONG TIME. GREAT PERFORMANCES, SAFE, GREAT PARKING, GOOD FOOD, BEVERAGES, A LOT OF SECURITY PRESENT, NO FIGHTS, ARGUMENTS, WHICH ALWAYS A GOOD THING WHEN YOU HAVE OLDER PEOPLE PRESENT. BALTIMORE OWN THE STYLISTICS, BLUE MAGIC, HEATWAVE, AND THE EMOTIONS. MY FAVOR WAS BLUE MAGIC THEY TURNED THE HOUSE OUT. THEY WAS DRESSED TO KILL, ON POINT, ALL THERE PERFORMANCES AND SINGING WAS GREAT. GREAT SHOW GENTLEMEN. THE LEAD SINGER FOR BLUE MAGIC CAN SING I MEAN MY DUDE PUT IT DOWN. NOT THAT IM TRYING TO TAKE AWAY FROM THE REST OF THE BLUE MAGIC SINGERS. ALL THE GENTLEMEN IT BOTH BANDS PUT IT DOWN AND IF NOT FROM THEM THERES NO SHOW PERFORMANCE. CANT WAIT TO SEE BLUE MAGIC AGAIN GREAT PERFORMANCES.
Mannheim Steamroller music and visual effects were terrific. Hope to see them at Modell Lyric again someday.
Stopped here on date night. Great show by Bert kershner. The line wrapping around the building, the staff was able to admit us in a very timely fashion. They had a great selection of vendors inside for door and beverages. Clean bathrooms too. (I know right!?!) The seating was perfect. The show was amazing. I laughed until I cried. Bert really puts on a good show. Parking was easy. Getting out wasnt bad. The only thing they could have improved was the staff shining their super bright flashlights around while trying to.get people to seating during the show. Dim red lights like we had for night map reading would have done the trick perfectly. All in all, it was an impressive place. Ill definitely attend again.
Saw Patton Oswalt - very funny. Comfy floor seats with ample room for bigger people. Very decent (very convenient!) quick food and cocktail offerings right in the lobby. Yes, you can take it all in to your seat/s in the auditorium. Winner!
Master Chef Jr Live VIP Experience is a waste of money! I paid a lot of money for an hour of meet and greet with the cast and preferred seating down front. The meet and greet consisted of being ushered into a rehearsal area where the cast answered five questions total over a ten minute time span. They then posed for pictures and went to get ready for the show. Our VIP Experience lasted 20 minutes.Once we got to our seats in the first four rows, we found that the only view we had was of the front edge of the stage and the speakers along it. You were required to buy seats down front in order to receive the VIP Experience. Luckily, venue staff relocated us back to the center of the audience, which provided a much better view, after many of us raised our concerns.I hope fans do some research and see this post so that they are not disappointed and waste a lot of money.
My brother and I saw the Beatles tribute, Rain, and had a good time. Plenty of good food nearby, and we found cheap parking with no problems.
I love attending R and B concerts and musical plays at the Baltimore Lyric. What a beautiful place with a wonderful atmosphere.
Excellent venue to see a live show. All seats have good views. The sound is very good. Bathrooms plentiful and clean. Staff helpful. Pay lot close by and free street parking after 6. Totally worth the 90 minute drive from Philadelphia to see a show. Will return!
Classic theater experience. We had box seats very good to see and hear everything. Very organized and professional environment.
Gorgeous theater, very stately and has a feeling of antique authenticity. The sound quality and outing are great. I recommend seeing shows here
Its a nice venue for an event. However, I wish there were more seating in the lobby area for seniors to have a seat, while members of their party are using the restrooms or going to get the car.
*Parking info as well*Attended the Kansas concert on Friday, March 3, 2019. This theater is beautiful and the sound was great! Sitting halfway up the balcony I could still pick out faces and what chords the guitar players were playingOverall, great experience!PARKING: A moderately priced public parking garage is within 2-blocks. From the front entrance to the theater its around the corner to the right across Oliver Street. It was $12 to park 7:30-10:45pm on a Friday night.I wish the street signs were bigger with clearer directions to the venue from the north. The front ushers taking tickets and for security were very friendly and kept the line moving very quickly!GREAT JOB!The seating ushers however, didnt know the venue. She took us past our seats and we had to double back down at least 6-rows. So more training for them would be great.
Had a great time / wish seats col uh d a little larger
The interior theater is a little dated and there were no top level bars set up although a huge sign directed you up there, but overall I had a good time at the Ledisi concert. The womens restroom line went quick due to there being an adequate number of stalls and restrooms on both levels. Id return...
The staff here is amazing!! the security professional that was very friendly and helpful in getting us through security, someone sweeping the floor and saw us looking around and asked if they could help us and the concessions people that were very busy but made everyone feel important. Very very nice experience. The art and history hanging on the walls was great. It was clean, well maintained and a nice night out.Hard to tell if acoustics were off or the performer just talking too fast but it got better after first few minutes. Our seats had a great view but a little cramped of course. No more than expected. We will be back. Highly recommend.
1st time at the Lyric. A little disappointed by how old and outdated the place looked. Ive been to many venues of similar size and this was the worst. It must look better from the stage. Hopefully the artists see something better than the audience does. Also had an ignorant, fat girl in front us who stood through the entire 1st band. Her dimwitted boyfriend was sitting staring at his cellphone the entire time, real engaged. These people need to stay home and let the people who really appreciate the artists enjoy themselves.
My Sister-Cousin(cousins who are like sisters)and I visited the Lyric to see Pride & Joy: The Marvin Gaye Musical.Great performance; Great Music; spiritual/R & B entertainment. Convenient reasonably price parking nearby was also a plus.
This place could really use some updating. The seats were small and cramped. Both my husband and I have had hip replacements. We were so uncomfortable. There were no hand rails to use on the steps up to our seats. Seems like this could be a safety issue.A monitor or two around the room would have been really nice in order to see the stage.Upon leaving I stopped in the ladies room. The attendant was yelling at grown women to flush the toilet, pick that paper up, You are next, you can go there. I felt like I was in elementary school again.
Good venue for shows of all types. Seats could use a refresh. Biggest problem was the ushers/security not doing anything to move the lines, or usher.
Really cool historic theater. The lobby is well laid out but the upstairs bathrooms are in kind of a choke point when the lines are long after the show (but most places are like that, so its not unexpected). The seats are old and historic, so we very tight together and if youre not a small person youll be pretty cozy with the person next to you, to put it one way.
The sound system here is awful. We went to see a stand up and were in the second level near the stage and could barely hear the show. Not to mention the drink prices were on the obscene side.
The acoustics are great but the seats are very tight (and Im a small person) and the stairs very narrow. There are a lot of bathroom stalls so although the lines can get long during intermission and after the shows, they go quickly.
Always a pleasant staff and atmosphere. Made my sons Graduation from University of Baltimore- Graduate School much more memorable.
Enjoyed performing there with my group (the Chi-Lites)! Hope we can come back.
I purchased 2 front row tickets at $75.00 a piece to take my husband to the Marvin Gaye play Pride and & Joy at the Lyric for his birthday. When I purchased the tickets there was nothing stating those seats had a an obstructed view. . . But they did. There were lights all across the whole stage causing us to miss half the play because we could see nothing because of those lights. I called the Lyric three times and left messages. I also left a email to see if I could get some type of restitution. They didnt have the courtesy to call me back. I guess its all about the money. I thought I was purchasing the best seats in the House. They were the worst.
Overall a nice facility. I attended a performance of Zelda Symphony of the Goddesses at this venue. The lobby isnt particularly noteworthy, but the theater is very nice. Theres lots of great architecture to appreciate, the seats were comfortable, and the sound was great. As a bonus, the theater seems to have an event parking agreement with the garage directly across the street, so parking was easy and affordable. I would definitely come back here for future performances if Im ever in Baltimore.
Ok place, and I horrible parking.Avoid RAIN the Beatles cover band it is tiresome and they sound like people faking British accents.
The CeCe Winands concert with the BSO and Morgan State Choir was great worth every penny will plan to go in 2020.
Great venue. Clear sight lines, good acoustics and semi-comfortable seats (a little narrow but good leg room). Restrooms were clean and commodious and the staff courteous and efficient. Plus, its a very beautiful theater.
Saw the US Army Field Band Holiday Concert! I thoroughly enjoyed the performance and the venue!
Loved the Art District and Venue.Absolutely stunning theatre.LEDISI WAS PHENOMENAL, PER USUAL
Great place and the parking attendants were super with helping the garage empty out quickly. We ate at Noonas next to the venue. Good food but Im not too crazy about craft beers. Was interesting though. The staff in the venue were super friendly and very helpful moving the crowd.
Okay, we get it. No photos. But the guards walking around with green lasers pinpointing them out to the guys on the floor? What the hell? Sure it helps your guys find the offenders, but WHAT ABOUT EVERYONE ELSE? I just loved watching the show with a green laser light show all around me and in my face. No thanks.
All seated venue. Old school style opera house. Amazing acoustics!!
Great location, very beautiful theater. They also have a eclectic variety of events that I love.
This Professional A-Cappella ensemble rocked the house!!! Remember their name, Straight No Chaser. They perform nationwide and if you hear that they are coming to a local venue - please check them out.
Went here to see George Lopez. It was my first time. The Lyric is beautiful inside, it’s outdated in a lovely way. The sound system was great. It was very cold inside though, you could feel the A/C blowing (mind you it was only about 15 degrees outside. The concession wasn’t that great and was extremely overpriced, as expected. Parking was convenient as it was right across the street.
Beautiful place, but be mindful of the spacing of the seats on the floor level...still a great experience.
Nice building to see a show. Not a bad seat in the place.Parking is difficult. The parking structure a couple of blocks away is a short walk, but set up poorly. You pay when you exit instead of when entering. It took us over an hour to get out of the structure.
Havent had a decent season since ??The quality of the productions has really suffered over the past 5 years. Most of the sophisticated works are now in Philly at the Academy or closer in DC.
The experience I had today at the Model Lyric was disappointing. I was there with my parents and son to see the A Charlie Brown Christmas touring stage production. When we walked up to the theater 15 minutes before showtime, a large crowd, including many small children, was still outside in the cold waiting to get in because of security. No staff members were outside or in the first lobby helping to direct people to security lines. Inside the theater before the show, no announcements were made about video recording, finding safety exits, etc.-- at least not that I heard. During intermission, I spoke to two ushers about the two people in front of us who used their phones several times to take video. The usher said that was not allowed and they would send security. Although a security person was standing near the stage during the second half and could see the people taking video again, the security person did nothing about it. Also, during intermission, I stood in line at a concessions stand that had a sign listing foods served including Fresh Popcorn, and I wasnt told until I got up to the counter that the popcorn was only upstairs. The sign could have at least been marked to show no popcorn. There was no program book for the show, which I realize may be the fault of the show. There should be some kind of program to at least give the performers names.I understand that, often, one or two things dont go quite right when visiting a theater; but, this was a series of customer service issues that we experienced. As native of the Baltimore area, Ive been to the Lyric many times, but it will be quite some time, and it will have to be a very tempting show, before I consider dedicating the time, money, and effort involved in returning.
Great performance, chairs are too close together and no air circulation.
It’s EXTREMELY hot in there and the seats are sooo close together. There’s no room at all. No leg space at all either. I wouldn’t recommend unless you can’t fit for hours with your legs bunched up. Not to mention they started an hour and a half late. .
The show was a get show I enjoyed the music.
Intimate setting, not really a bad seat in the theatre. Bathrooms well kept. Attendants friendly and helpful. The only issue, parking. Pray for street parking or use spot hero beforehand. Otherwise, we enjoyed it and have already started planning to go back.
Beautiful theater, but the seats are not made for tall people.
The Lyric is a beautiful, old building, truly an icon. I attended a solo performance of Bill Maher. Attendees were still using phones up through the first bit of the performance. Very annoying. Sound good, lighting good.
The show was pretty nice ; however, it was hard to sit in those horrible seats that were too small for nearly everyone, even the smaller theater goers. The whole row has to get up to let people pass. There is no real railing in the upper levels to hold on to when going up and down the steps. It was an older crowd and this place didnt feel safe at all.
Was not impressed. The entrance was so unorganized. The usher helped us to our box but had sat someone else in our seats so that took a whole 10 minutes to figure out! The seats were old chairs that were wobbly and one move away from falling apart. The place had a musty smell. The overall experience was uncomfortable. For the price I paid for tickets I was none to pleased. They say its been newly renovated I am wondering what it was before? Also do not plan on leaving the parking garage until a discombobulated 40 minutes later and dont plan on going to the Brass Tap that is recommended before show because it was so packed you couldnt get in the door! I think I rather drive to see shows in D.C than return to this nasty building!
While the event we went to was fabulous, the theater was extremely hot. You could feel the heat wafting down continuously. The show was sold out, so it was very crowded. People around me were stripping down and fanning themselves. It was very distracting and made it hard to focus on the show. We had balcony seats. We did find all the staff we encountered to be friendly and very helpful, but I couldnt wait to get out of there and into cooler air.
Good enough venue, but security are less than professional if the ones at the Kansas show are any indicator.Asked if they knew a place to put a small multitool they had an issue with (no knives or pointy objects on it, just a pry bar) and I was effectively told to shove it.For the price of admission, Id expect better.Hopefully they address these staffing issues.Seats are also tiny to say the least. Period accurate I suppose, but not built for anyone over 510 or of a build larger than starving Victorian-era.Also not the most well maintained place, rough around the edges.
Its a great place but the parking stinks in the area
Excellent service and a huge number of beers all at good prices
Came for the Jojo Siwa concert. Perfect place for it! Not too overwhelmingly large, easy to see the stage from any seat. Our box seats were almost at the stage. Beautiful space, and the very helpful employees made for a great experience. Highly recommend! TaNya approved!
Went here to see the current iteration of Steely Dan. No standing until the last song but a pretty decent venue. Not a bad seat in the house. They sell beer/wine for not terrible prices. Pro tip - at the end of shows, they sell whatever popcorn and chicken sandwiches for $1.
There is a weird empty room connected to the mens bathroom on the lower level... pretty chill if you ask me...
This place needs to be renovated. The seats in the mezzanine were difficult to get to if youre elderly or walk with assistance. The steps in there theater area were very steep and awkward. You had to pay for the playbills. Most plays that I have been to give a playbill with the performance.
A most excellent old venue... But either the show I saw or the venue sound system needed work because everyone in my party and those near us complained that the words werent clear enough to always be understood.
You dont have any space to move around no matter what size u r they made those seats for children
Place needs an update like crazy. Super cramped & what seems to be an outdated audio system. If you are on the chubbier side like myself, just cross your fingers you wont have to sit next to someone the same size because it will be a very uncomfortable situation for you.
The acoustics are great and the shows start on time. The only drawback is that the seats are narrow and there is no middle aisle on the lower level orchestra section.
Comfortable but we were asked to arrive 1 hour 30 minutes early for security processing. But there werent many people there and so the long wait proved unnecessary even though the theater was filled at performance time.
Went to the concert to see the Chi-lies the Spinners
Wow.. very nice place..But need more cleaning
I saw Ms. Anita Baker perform there and the show was fantastic! I had never been to that venue before. I thought it was a beautiful place and I enjoyed myself there.
Went to a concert there. Was awesome.
Bud light was flat. Other then that Awesome place
Saw bert kirschner. Good venue.
Great space, terrible security setup. We arrived for the 2/8 Jim Gaffigan show and stood in line for over a half hour in frigid temps to get through security. Missed part of the opening act. Show was great, venue was pretty, but would ask that sold out shows have enough staff on hand to get ticket holders into the theater!
Nice sized venue. Not a bad seat as far as view but very cramped seats. Very poor security setup. Free-for-all, everyone crowding in at once with no organization.
The Modell Lyric, -- not good. Do not waste your money on the Box seating. I paid a lot for our tickets and there was no indication that our view would be obstructed by the pillars at the side of the theatre. I was so pissed. On top of that, the small boxed in area held 8 chairs when there is really only room for 4 at best. We were unfortunate to have been in the second row of 4 seats so that the people in the first row of 4 could move their chairs wherever they pleased and of course any room we did have for our legs was taken away. The ushers put the wrong people in front of us at first-- a woman came in with a wheel chair and her family helped her get seated and situated which took about 20 minutes of moving chairs around and hitting us and then a second usher bringing the right people into the seating area and moving the seats all around again. Finally the show started and I was unable to see the full stage at one time. Between jostling around the chair from the person seated on my knees and the damn pillar in the way, I spent the whole show bouncing side to side to get comfortable and try to watch the performance. Drinks were a whole other downer. We were told the theatre would open its doors at 6:30 to allow you in. What they didnt tell you was you couldnt actually be seated, so you spent your time in the hallways standing and being pushed around with your $11.00-$18.00 EACH drink in your hands that ended up being spilled.
It is a good sized venue with nearby parking garage. Even if you are sitting far away you feel close. The lousy thing is there is basically zero legroom in the seats. If you have long legs I strongly recommend getting an aisle seat.
The seating is very comfortable. The speech to text is fairly quick and accurate. The temperature was appropriate and the light and sound were amazing. Been many times before and will continue to attend events in the future.
Had a great time at John Mellencamps concert. Only drawback are side balcony seating that are at 90 degrees to stage so that people must turn their heads or bodies to see stage. Acoustics are great and the decor is gorgeous.
Terrible seats. Speakers were shot or something. Because whenever they raised their voice it was too much feedback or something from the speakers to be able to understand. Would not recommend going to this theater until speakers get updated. Or sound proofing is added to the walls
Nice atmosphere. Had good seats for last minute tickets for Jim Gaffigan. Seats were tight but comfortable.
Went to see Pride and Joy Marvin Gaye Play. The play was awesome and the venue was nice. My only complaint was it was a little too cold but I brought a jacket to put over me.
