This place is cool. We wandered from the paved trail and became a bit disoriented. This added some mileage. Some big snakeskins so be careful in warmer times! Dogs allowed but bring bags.

What a great place!!! I only wish I had more time to spend reading the exhibit displays and learning more about the Oregon Trail, besides reading books! Very informative, very well laid out - personal favorite, the Technology of the Oregon Trail exhibit! Breathtaking views. I also liked it because it was a humbling experience, when you see what the pioneers were up against, the daily trials they went through, and the land they traveled upon. It fills one with awe, yet inspires you knowing that there were a people who were strong enough to see this as their future.Wow.

Extremely well done Animals and people and wagona and scenes looked so real and authentic. 1.5 hours seemed to fly by even though we didnt make time for the 1-hour video or the outside trails because it was very cold and our dog was in the car. Lots of interesting history and quotes. School kids were doing a bingo game and question contest by viewing all the exhibits and the were all dressed in costumes of the day, as were the adult escorts. Highly recommend this even if you are not into history or museums like myself.

Exceptional museum depicting the journey from many points of view. Over multiple visits, I’ve related first to the mothers on the trail, and now to the grandparents saying a forever goodbye. Interpretive staff is dedicated to helping every visitor learn and have fun. (Covid note: Impeccably clean, kudos to the cleaning staff.)

Out on the unforgiving desolate prairie, whipped by the piercing wind, perched high on the far rise, sits this oasis of knowledge and educational enjoyment great for any “day trip” on any given day of the week.On the wall in this museum, you can read a story about a lone tree that grew just over this rise. It was a sight of pleasure for the trail wearied Organ Trail immigrant as it was a sign of their trip’s nearing end. They had left their homes to find a new life and the high desert plains of the snake river basin were tough on the toughest of young stalwarts. One day, someone cut this lone tree down for fuel. That dude was an a**. (In my opinion.)In any case, this story is in this interpretation center, along with a walk through area featuring great taxidermy animals depicting a moment on the trail where motion sensors trigger historic audiologues. There is also a tiny model boat. With super bunch’s of hands on stuff for the kids and displays and films and the whole lot, this place is could take a few visits to take it all in.On a not so piercing windy autumn day, but on a beautiful cool spring/summer day, I bet the paved green belt through the rolling hills down to the actual ruts of the original Organ Trail, would be a great walk for those who like a little activity.Anyway, totally worth the visit. Do it sometime.

The Center does a great job of bringing the trail to life. A little paper booklet offers a view from a specific individual and fun crayons to stamp at each major stop along the way. There is rut just down the hill where you can see the actual path taken. A sign puts things in perspective, comparing the single path rut to the wider paths were used to seeing made from car/truck wheels. 300,000 people traversed the trail.

Ok, but not so interesting as the center near Baker City. Nevertheless you will learn what the settlers had to endure on their half year long trail. I liked that you also get the facts versus the fiction, for example why they formed a circle every night. It was not to stand against the evil native Americans... What I also liked was the building itself. It looks like a several huge wagons.
