What a great museum. Gave insights into the surrounding area that made our continuing visit more meaningful. Ladies working there were great
Great place to visit. Very good exhibits and a ton of information to take in. Spent a couple hours and could have stayed a couple more.
We went for the rock painting and rock swap. We had a great time and there were even free rocks for the taking. The rock painting was also fun and free (donations are accepted). They supplied the rocks and the paints. A fun activity to do with young children. The little kids had a blast.
Wonderful Very large with lots of history. Murals, and huge gemstone collection. Well worth your time!
Great place to visit! The mining, cattle ranching, and logging exhibits were excellent! A lot of rich Eastern Oregon history, tied all the way back to the Oregon Trail. Highly recommended!
Probably the best hometown museum I have ever visited. The volunteers are knowledgeable and friendly. The museum tells agreat story about Bakers beginnings.
Great price, with lots of room, & items on local history that was informative.Good to match this visit with the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center.
We spent 3 hrs there. It was AWESOME! Definitely a must see if youre in the area!
This is a wondrous place to visit, day trip, or stop in on your way through. Great collection of hosiery ...and largest collection of rocks in the USA! The florescent rocks are amazing!!!
Wealth of historical information on early Baker City. Wonderful museum!
Reasonable entry fee with really neat exhibits. Friendly staff as well.
They have captured a lot of great history
I recommend going with family and friends
Excellent view of a historical city.
Great museum. Many displays of area history including their claim to fame Paint Your Wagon was filmed here
Very informative personnel. Very cool artifacts.
On a road trip we found this place on Google maps and thought itd be fun to stop and stretch our legs. We were pleasantly surprised with how much this small town museum offered. If youre ever in Baker take an hour and go browse. The couple of staff we visited with were incredibly nice and helpful. One even gave us a few minutes worth of info on the town and how the museum came to be.
Wow! They have done an amazing job. I was not expecting it to have so much variety of collections from the areas history and the rocks are wonderful!
This museum was awesome for my family and I. It is literally stuffed to the brim (in a good way) with exibits. The building itself used to be an old swimming hall. They have all sorts of items. A lot of movie props and photos from the western Paint you wagon. Do not miss the rock room if you or your kids like crystals and fossils. Its an amazing collection. Definitely worth the price of admission and will take up a few hours if you take your time browsing.
Exciting and very informational lots of fun
Soooooo much to see! A steal for the price :)
The Baker Heritage Museum is a must see if you are in the area. The museum holds beautiful and informative exhibits, and the physical building itself is worth checking out. They have an extremely small staff and a dedicated group of volunteers who have truly worked miracles with the minimal funding they receive. Make sure to bring a sweater (the building can be a bit chilly) and block off at least an hour and a half to get the most out of your experience. This museum is truly a gem!
I want to Thank Steve and the staff at this museum.I learned so much and I would go again forsure!
The Baker Heritage Museum is a real Eastern Oregon treasure. Their stone collection alone is worth a visit. The only reason I would not give it 5 stars is that since it is run by volunteers, posted viewing hours are not always reliable. I do highly recommend a visit, even if you are just passing through town.
I spent a couple of hours here this week and could have spent much longer if my schedule had permitted. The history of Baker City comes alive here in a wealth of great exhibits. Highly recommended!
Fascinating place at a very reasonable admission price. Would love to come back some day and explore it again.
This museum was surprisingly amazing for being in such a small town. Theres a large collection of rocks from all over the world, including crystals that weigh several hundred pounds and a little room full of rocks that glow in ultraviolet light. The ladies who work here were super friendly and had so much interesting information to share. It was definitely worth the visit!
Ive been to a lot of small-town museums. Most are posters on the wall and signs on the law. This has to be by far the best small town Museum Ive ever been to in my 60 years! From exhibits to exhibits two exhibits. Well worth the diversion and the visit!
Awesome, can not see everything in one day
An amazing place for anyone with an interest in the past, history, geology and more. Couldve spent the entire day here!
There are a lot of things to see. The pool room with mining, timber, farming and ranching artifacts. A large rock room and upstairs there are settings just like my grandmothers house. Very beautiful. A great place to spend time revisiting the past.
Awesome rock display, really nice Mining and farming displays and a very interesting history of the building. This is definitely a hidden gem and I recommend a stop, its very reasonably priced too.
Hidden gem holding plenty of info and artifacts from Oregons past. From prospectors and the trail to modern homesteading and industry, its well worth the admission and detour.
Well, being late for visiting it, the Gentleman allowed me to visit and even went along with me stating and describing the ancient aspects and history behind most of the things situated over there. It was the only chance to visit that as I had my flight back to India after a few days. Thanks for the memories.
We love checking out local museums in small towns and this was very well laid out with exhibits that are very informative and interesting.Highly recommended.
By far the best mineral collection I have ever seen!! It was so neat to look at this collection and experience the minerals God has created.
Absolutely great! Displays well marked and plenty of them
Excellent displays. Not your typical small town museum. The building is huge and its history is quite interesting. The rock collection that was donated to the museum I thought was spectacular. Definitely worth the time and the cost of the admission. I only had 90 minutes before it closed and that was not enough time to do it justice.
Amazing museum. You need to see this! The rock collection is incredible! Something for all ages. So much fun and education for a minimal price. Our 4 kids love it and we learn something knew everytime we go. Also a very affordable gift shop at the end. Dont miss out!
Right now it is closed for the winter, and yearly maintenance. What a great place to visit. Look forward to new flooding in key areas. Get your tickets for old Auburn night, the end of February. An evening of fun and good food.
Building is former Naturoium. GREAT collection of rocks and minerals collected worldwide over a lifetime by two local women, including a black light display of flourescing rocks. Great displays showing everyday life years ago.
This was a great museum I couldnt believe all the stuff they had I would recommend it to anyone got to take lots of pictures
Very impressed! Its much larger inside than it looks. Vast array of exhibits.
Loved this place! The staff was friendly and helpful, really took time to talk with us and answer questions. Great exhibits, we could have stayed all day. If you like museums, this one is excellent!
Interesting exhibition. Childrens scavenger hunt was a nice touch to highlight aspects of the exhibitions.
Best museum I have ever been too.Absolutly magnificent
This small museum has so much to offer for local history and geology! We were impressed by the extensive rock collection that was larger than some big city natural history museums!
Love this place. Baker City and County history at its finest!
Truly wonderful museum! Especially the rock room!
Enjoyed the walk through time with my 10yr old daughter. She really liked seeing how things were done. The rock exhibit is great.
This place is amazing! Such great displays and wonderful information!
Not all Museums are made the same. This museum celebrates the local community and its impact on the world. There are exhibits that are fascinating for the littlest children through to the oldest adults. This is a great place to explore as a family. Even if you are not from Baker City you can celebrate your own familys history by looking at the various exhibits and explore the history of the western part of the United States. The variety that is on display here and the quality of the displays make this a museum you do not want to miss.
Love it. Try to go at least once a year. Kid friendly. Tons of things to learn about baker city past. A nice selection of early modern medicines. Set up in its own little room to look in and look around. There are mock kitchens and bed rooms all dated. An impressive Chinese culture collection on loan.
The variety and backstory behind every exhibit was incredible, very glad i got to visit all the way from alaska
Great if you want to learn more about Oregon history.
Wow very interesting and fun place to explore
It was fun. Didnt know Paint Your Wagon was filmed in Baker City.
Visited after several years away. It was VERY good then. Even better now. GO there. Walk thru to yesterday
A quintessential Baker County visit. Worthwhile displays.
Very interesting look into the history of the county. Would like to see a little more on the native inhabitants of the county. Well put together.
We came here with family and it was interesting. The exhibits were neat, but our two toddlers didnt last very long. I think its ideal for families with older children, but we still enjoyed our time.
Great museum Lots of items of local importance. Very helpful ! ☆☆☆☆☆
Great place to look into the Past, present, future. Kids will enjoy viewing the Special Rocks! I know I did. And I am not a child!
Was such a cool place to learn some history and see the past.
A very well done museum about the history of Baker City and surrounding area. The museum displays much of its artifacts in beautiful period displays. The collection of rocks, fossils and minerals is amazing. They are celebrating the 50th year since Paint Your Wagon was filmed in this area with a variety of displays. One of the best regional museums that I have visited. You dont have to have an interest in the Baker City region to enjoy this museum. Be sure to stop when in the area.
Such a great collection. Something for everyone over 13. Nothing interactive, but loads of interesting history, gemstone collection that is notable and the Paint Your Wagon collection. Our Groupon made it a great deal.
My kids and I loved it
So much to see
This place was a bit disappointing. Large Paint Your Wagon display, but I felt disappointed after the hype. Average displays, average condition, average size. Another meh.
Rocks, clint, airstream oh my.
Lots to see. Very educational!
Interesting local history with special exhibits. Outstanding mineral collection.
Well stocked and well cared for, could have used a docent OR more labeling. Lots of room for kids to move with our bumping into you or the exhibits. Allow lots of time if you want to see it all.
This first visit was a taste of several more. These are happily anticipated in order to digest all that is here.
Really enjoyed this. Staff is very friendly. Gift shop had neat things to take home too.
We have been here a couple of times and really appreciate the effort and time it has taken to keep it so nice.Great exhibits!
Great little museum, lots of old farm and mining stuff, and a big rock collection.
Great museum for a small staff they do a great job
Went with kids school on trip we had a great time and learned alot
Great rock collection.
Lots of interesting stuff.
I always enjoy a visit here when I am up through Baker City. I especially liked the displays commemerating the 50th anniversary of the filming of Paint Your Wagon in the mountains outside of town.
Super cool place. Amazing rock collection
Absolutely amazing!
This place has am incredible selection of historical artifacts local to the area. Check out their amazing rock exhibit!
A bit small but interesting and well put together. The rock collection adds the fourth star to this review.
Huge and worth a visit.... plan a couple hours, at least to take everything in! Very knowledgeable staff!
Amazing rock and mineral collection. Great history information about Baker County.
So fun to learn more about Baker city.
Such an interesting place to visit!
It is closed until March
Excellent museum for a small town. A must see on your way through Baker City.
Terrific mineral collection and period rooms. A nice place to gather some Baker history!
It was awesomeBest breakfast buffet ever
Had a great time here with my mom and brothers. Very interesting to see the history of this eastern Oregon town
Cute little museum that really showed what life on the frontier was like.
