All I can say is its a learning experience.
The Fire Island Lighthouse Preservation Society has been doing great work for decades, with the lighthouse and with its associated history and artifacts. The lens building and display is first-rate, with a huge 19th-century first-order Fresnel lens on display amid interpretive materials. Of course, it is not just any lens - this lens used to reside in the lantern room of the lighthouse right outside the window. Even if the lighthouse wasnt there, the lens display alone would be worth the visit.
Great place to visit when you go to Robert Moses beach, good exercise and great scenery.
The lighthouse museum and gift shop at Robert Moses Beach on Fire Island. It is the only part of Fire Island you can drive to.... the museum is definitely worth a visit.
Beautiful day trip that is close by. There are tours but its nice just to walk around on your own.
They have a massive, gorgeous, historic fresnel lens that used to be in the Fire Island Lighthouse, plus cool exhibits and programs
