Came with my BF to catch some comedy. Did not disappoint! Great venue!
I’m not sure if it was just the night we came but the doorman makes everyone wait outside until the show is about to start. Once indoors the venue is cramped but well designed. They only had one bartender so during the mad rush for seating and drinks it took maybe 15 minutes to have a drink in hand before I could find my chair. I hadn’t been to a comedy show in ages and needed a laugh so was really ready to let loose. However, I was sadly underwhelmed by the lineup and found myself giving a few uncomfortable pity laughs in an otherwise quiet room. Not sure if I will give it another try but I am sure if a known headliner was performing it might have been a better experience. Overall, it was okay.
Great Saturday night out. I enjoyed the late show and the drinks were very cheap.
Cool little spot for some great comedy! Weve seen quite a few shows there, and theyve all been really good. There are plenty of local and non-local comedians that perform here, and they have different types of comedy from stand-up to dual improv. The staff is also really awesome! You can bring in food if you want, so its cool to grab a slice of pizza next door and come in for the show. They usually have 2 different shows at 9pm and 11pm. Its also at the beginning of 6th, so not quite as noisy outside. Definitely recommend for a fun night out!
I had the best time seeing Larry Garza here about a month ago. Definitely a great date night experience with my husband.
Visited for Out of Bounds Comedy Festival. Great Comics. Reasonably priced drinks. I was in my hotel room when I realized that I left my jacket. The club was closed, but I texted and was able to retrieve my jacket the next day. Thank you! I needed it for the flight home.
One of my favorite comedy clubs in the country. Small, intimate venue to watch both local and national comics perform. The manager tends the bar in the back and creates a good environment not only for audiences for performers (dont even think about heckling here). Right on the edge of the 6th Street madness, parking is a bit tricky, but dont let that stop you!
Pat Dean is an amazing bartender. They always have great comedy. Id definitely will come again
Its a nice club to watch up and coming acts test out their material and the relatively small space makes it an intimate venue for comedian and crowd interaction. Also the drinks are very well priced and theyre quick to throw out hecklers or annoying patrons who otherwise ruin shows at other places. Obviously with a place like this the comedians will be hit and miss, but the $10 admission is always worth it regardless. The only reason I dont give it five stars is because the seating is too cramped if youre someone who doesnt like being elbow to elbow with strangers.
This is a great room for stand up. Intimate and warm. Definitely a must for any stand-up aficionado.
Lots of great local comedians! And its spacious enough to enjoy the show.
Very professional, very funny, great show.
Really fun spot for stand-up comedy on Friday and Saturday. Be sure to get the tickets in advance because sometimes they sell out, so its safer to prebuy. They also do open mic nights on Thursday if youre looking to break in to stand-up comedy.
Favorite place for comedy in Austin. Way and fun experience
I seen Jimmy Dore and friends(Graham Elwood, Step and Mike. It was great.
I laughed from simply reading the name of the club out loud.
Its $10 for the Shits Golden Comedy show at 9pm every 1st Monday of the Month.. The comics are always VERY VERY GOOD.Parking? Not so much..... Street parking.. But on Monday it was free!!! But you are on the street so .......Chris Tellis and Pat Dean run the show. They are great. They had one drink special.... The rest they call happy hour prices...... Not so happy. But all in all ..... A great time.
Great intimate venue! Every seat has a really great view, bar is super close to seating. Overall excellent experience!
The best standup comedy place in Austin. It will make you laugh
Awesome! The environment is amazing and the entertainment was fantastic!
Great bar. Was here for moon tower comedy festival. So not sure how it is when its regular. Great experience at the festival
Great small room for comedy. Would highly recommend. Possible Minnesotan infestation for no understandable reason.
The venue itself was great. Friendly staff. Great drinks. Not a bad seat in the house. The comedians were just OK. My rating is on the venue, not the entertainment.
The best spot for viewing Austins up and coming comedians, as well as turing acts. The staff is super friendly, and funny.
Dont let the name fool you, the Velveeta room is not actually a cheese bar. But you will find some cheesy jokes inside, especially on their open mic night.
We showed up late on open mike night. Meh. Keep working on those acts!
Great place good crowd and brilliant staff. Can’t wait to go back.
Fun place to have a few drinks and laughs on Thursday night for an open mic!
Really fun comedy spot. Came for a friends birthday and was glad we got a table. I hear its hard to get on the performer list though
Good time comedians were hilarious
Favorite place to see stand up comedy. Its never crowded and the drinks are good! Great variety of comedians from all over the country.
We stumbled upon this comedy club while visiting some family in Austin. The comics were pretty good overall and we have fun
Its difficult to rate a venue, because the act during the night deserves their own review, independent of the venue. With that said, the layout feels cramped for space, and the chairs are not that comfortable. Also its connected to another venue via a back hallway that lies right behind the stage, and the back noise that codes from it often is a big distraction from the main stage
Hilarious, I had a great time!
Really great watching the stand up on Thursday nights
Be careful where you park. The Velv is right by where the city barricades and tows if youre in the zone.
Great time: good comedians, decent prices, friendly service, and has its own Austin eccentric charm.
Small venue close seating overall nice place.
Great show, good price, reasonable drinks
Budget comedy at its best
Um, yes. I came here a lot with my best friend in high school. Go go go, comedy dive. $5 open mic on Thursdays (free with you Esters Follies wristband) which has the potential to be either the most awkward or hilarious experience of your life. In the case of the former, they serve cheap drinks.
Sometimes you just want to laugh and this place delivers (mostly). Not many choices for good comedy in Austin but luckily this place exists. Generally a safe bet for some chuckles.
Lovely club if esthers next door isnt showing a play. Sounds bleed thur the club
Comics simply werent funny. The crowd got more laughs.
Had a great time! Too the hubby there for his birthday and would go again.
Great place for cheesy comedy
Great spot to enjoy comedy! Small w table service.
Great atmosphere. Bartender made a disappointing Manhattan after I offered to change my drink order.
Reliable comedy. Conspicuous restroom access.
Great place to see local comedy.
Quaint place to see a comedy show
Funny place love the experience
Always funny
Always a good time.
Had a great time!
Decent comedy club
Great spot for comedy on 6th
Lost a star for uncomfortable seats and blah comedienne
