Great hike to the tree and the collum. I wouldnt recommend it for people who are not use to hiking. We hiked it at a brisk pace and my grandpa said it was a bit difficult. Would totally recommend otherwise.
Gorgeous but short trail. Usually pretty quite.
Difficulties are just a challenging way to learning MTB .This trail to me was learning lessens over and over .The smoke killed the effects biking healthy, so I made a short trip.Better than MT Hood as of 9 am .Today.
Steep and muddy as all get out when we did, but worth the trip. The view at the top was glorious.
Great hike. Well maintained. Beautiful at the top. Highly recommend doing the stairs at the tower what a view!
Liked it but 9 to 1 chance of mud :)
Beautiful hike. Not too strenuous. Took a big group and all of us including the younger kids were able to make it the whole way!
Its not the nature nature that brings me there, but for a few good memories
Go from the column down to the cathedral tree. Some steep drop offs about midway down, if you go from Irving up its not so ruff of a walk. Its a nice area to get away and unwind.
Well maintained trail not a easy hike. It is good to tire the kids out. And the tree is awesome
Step away from the street and into this thidden home to multitudes of bird song, and limpid greens, backed by towering Sitka Spruce and Western Hemlock. The trail.once had botanical markers, and a few remain. It would be great to see more restored. More trail signs would help casual visitors, too. One part of the trail ends at the crowning majesty, the 300 y.o. Sitka. The other trail turned up a very muddy trail to the Astoria Column, I assume? One is left to guess.
Great place to bring it to nature
Muddy but very peaceful
Nice, steep hike in a very beautiful area. Easy to get to. However, it was too muddy in many locations making it slippery and hazardous for those who are not very agile or flexible.
Usually muddy so plan accordingly
A solid trail which can helpful if you dont want to pay the parking fee at the Column
Not to long nor to steep. Perfect hike for Sunday morning with stupendous reward at the top. The panoramic view Cant be topped. Kids will love it 8 yrs old on up. Enjoy.
Its a short trail that continues to go up. The tree is pretty fascinating and its a beautiful hike. Id recommend starting from the bottom of the trail rather than up at the Astoria column because of the climb.
It was a good hike. A lot of muddy spots though. Dont wear canvas shoes.
This is a great little 1 mile one way hike up to the Astoria Column. The big trees are probably a little less than half of the way up. The location on Google maps was a bit off. Its at about 28th not 36th...
Very pretty little hike.
Nice 1.5 mile trail to the Astoria column. Its well grave led and maintained. Lots of up hill though. The cathedral tree is about 1/3 of the way from the trailhead and thaw column. Its on a spur trail to the left of the main trail. There is no sign so dont miss it.
If you like trees, fresh air, and a brisk hike with one of the best views in Oregon on a Clear day, this is the hike for you. It might be a little muddy, and slippery, but it is one of my favorite coast hikes. Stop at the Buoy for beers and food after. Thanks.
Fun walk good rest spot. Parking limited but not overly crowded. Able to reach the tower from here as well.
Quiet hike, lots of incline! Hike all the way up to the Astoria Column!
The people who down nature.......
Beautiful, but due to being out of shape I didnt get far. Its a steep climb. However, there are several geocaches there!
My favorite spot in Astoria... beautiful and romantic
Nice trail on the edge of Astoria, but not advisable once the winter rain kicks in. The boardwalk and wooden steps are slick. The trail from the Cathedral Tree to the Astoria Column is a slippery mess in the winter.
Great medium paced hiking trail with lots to see
