Itd be a 5 star is there was a bit more gravel in the steep parts. In rain or winter, if you are likely to fall, you should avoid the steep inclines on the SW edge of the pond.Other than that, its a fantastic place for dogs. Its about a 30-45 minute walk around the pond.

Love this place and our dogs love it too! Theres a large, open field and about a 1 mile loop around a small lake that are both off-leash. The terrain is uneven most of the way, if thats a factor. There are no completely fenced in areas and multiple trails feed into the loop all the way around so bring a leash if your dog has a tendency to wander too far away. The lake water is accessible at many points along the walk, which our 2 love, but pay attention to recent news and signs posted for moose, bears, aggressive beavers and water-borne pathogens.

Great off-leash dog park with beautiful lake and trails. Heavily wooded areas are great for off-trail adventures. Friendly folks and pets that are all generally responsible with clean-up. Lots of open areas for chuck-it and fetch and swimming. Just be careful of beavers! Especially when theyve had their kits - very aggressive and there have been attacks on swimming dogs when they feel their nest is threatened. Occasional moose spottings, but generally very safe park year-round for walks, playtime, and socializing with other dogs of all varieties.

A nice place for an off leash walk. Can be a bit scary alone at night, but can usually find a group to walk with. A few moose in the area. Definitely wear ice spikes and bring a headlamp just in case. Only met a few mean dogs, others seem friendly. Dogs can swim in the summer, but there have been some aggressive beavers.

I enjoy this off leash dog park, and the various ski trails that wind thru APU that are available for wandering May-September, and that they tie into the rest of the Anchorage trail system. This visit I walked from the park to the South Bivuoac trailhead.Anchorage trails are fabulous!

Been coming here for years! Have to be careful of the dead fish in the fall, beavers living in the lake and dogs falling in the water during the spring (hard to climb out onto the ice).Very popular dog park and is a great place if you are looking to socialize your dog. I’ve seen Great Danes, Saint Bernards, Malinois, Poodles, Mastiffs, Corgis, Yorkies, Mutts, Collies and all sorts of other dog breeds.

This is my absolute favorite dog park! Lots of space for the dogs to run around and a great trail to walk on. There are a lot of visitors and the snow stays pretty well packed through the winter. University Lake Dog Park is a local favorite for off leash dog walking. Most people there frequent the park and are friendly. There are beavers in the lake, so not letting the dogs in the lake is a good idea. It really is a pleasant place to walk even without dogs. Lots of trails and some good views too.

I really enjoy walking with our two small breed dogs. They do have sections that allow dogs without leashes (speak more on this down below) but we didnt and dont do that just incase. They have garbage bins all through out the trails and doggy bags to CLEAN UP AFTER UR DOG! Their are benches throughout the trails and beautiful spots for photos.Lots of Beaver activity so be careful. The 1 or 2 drunks that sometimes linger, Ive never been bothered by them though. They have a trail that’s paved for bikers/easy walking, or dirt trail closer to the lake too.My main grip about coming to the park is the dog leash free area should be for behaved dogs only! Thats sounds obvious right well just about everyday in our daily walks there is a dog(s) that don’t listen to the owner when being called to get back from us and our dogs. We have two toy sized dogs that cant defend themselves are on leashes, being trained and other dogs push their chests out and growl and I try to tell the dog to get back with no results. So I end up picking my dog up and having to teach the owner a lesson on owning pets and having them obey or stay on a leash. And the whole park ISN’T leash free zone but people cant read I guess.

Fantastic option for dog walking in Anchorage. Walk around the lake trail is about 1 mile. Field area for dog socialization is near the parking lot. We used to take our dog here at least twice a week and walk the trail. After a large dog was attacked and drug into the water by a beaver and killed we have stopped coming to this park completely. Its just not worth it. Unchecked beavers, moose and thin ice in the winter make this a dangerous spot to take your pup. Sadly weve switched parks. Its just not worth the risk anymore.

Mi
Review №81

While parking at times might be sketchy, this clearly is a great place to take your dog. This is an off leash area on the university side (not sure if all around the lake), and even in the cold part of winter, and the darkness of night in January, it is very active with people and dogs. Expect to see a flock of little red led lights on the collars of dogs flitting about the place at night. It is Alaskas version of fireflies. Every evening they are out in force during winter. Take your dog and say hello.
