I live near here and visit often. This is a very healing place. Peaceful and picturesque. Popular spot during the nice summer days, and breathtaking during the Fall season. The lake is stocked with small trout for fishing, and in the wintertime some come here to ice fish and to ice skate. Beautiful park, and we in East Anchorage are very fortunate to enjoy our time here.
Very good multi-use park. Play equipment for kids, maintained skating area, decent ice fishing inthe middle of town...
Very nice lake on East side of Anchorage. Big enough for kayaking or canoeing. I would not recommend swimming there due to the huge amount of algae. I have seen moose, ducks, birds and fishes there. Very nice open trail all around thhe lake. It is close to buildings but nothing that ever bothered me. I have seen people fishing there but I believe it would be small ones.
For the most part its a good place to take your smaller kids to play and have a picnic..However the number of POT smokers is on the rise. The other day there were 3 people on a table.. two were fishing and smoking pot the third was a young girl who was just smoking and kept the pipe lit.Watch out for bears on the East side..
Nice lake to bird watch and a fun place to ice fish. The dogs enjoy it too.
Took the grandkids there to kayak, was very surprised and pleased. The lake is the perfect size for kids work a cool island to paddle around. A lot of aquatic growth that could use some work but other than that it was perfect. Plenty of space to laugh from that is easy to carry kayaks to from the parking lot. Parking lot is a little small for me as I use a trailer for the kayaks but a quick disconnect and trailer turn we made it work fine.
This seems to be a great spot to play at the park, go fishing, or walk the path around the lake... My sister & I brought my daughter. We didnt know there was a park so it was a nice discovery & my daughter loved it. As we walked around the lake we saw a man doing wood carvings in his back yard so we watched for a few minutes as he removed the bark from a log. He had awesome carvings. We also saw several nesting ducks, and several fish were literally jumping out of the water. Definitely planning to go back for more walks, park fun, and fishing The path is wide enough that we were easily able to pull a wagon, and several families were riding bicycles along the paths as well
Love taking our dog on walks there, but i need better traction on my shoes with the mud
Great place to fish but no catching fish. Lol
Lovely for walking dogs, ice fishing. Lots of vine-like plants in the water.
I absolutely love this park. It was my first time there.
I saw a lady walking her CAT there!! On a leash!!!! It was the craziest thing I saw today!! I love it!!
Its pretty, peaceful, great walking, parking can be challenging at times.
Its a fun place to fish, but theres a lot of algae.
Tonight Cheney Lake was peaceful. Just my dog a few ducks etc and myself.. almost forgot 8000 mosquitoes
It is a beautiful place to bring family, so a little, fishing, or hike/jog around on a nice day.
It gets crowded but its nice plenty of stocked trout and wild
Nice lake to walk around or fish. Centrally located in Anchorage eastside
Nice and easy mile and a half walk.
Good place to walk to just talk with a friend
Love it was raised on this lake prior to being Cheney Lake Park.
Grew up here, love it. Great walking trail. Fishing is kept stocked. Ice skating in the winter when conditions are good
Sunny, calm, and peaceful in the morning. Even the Grebes were silent.

A great asset in East Anchorage. Some playground equipment for kids. But the real attraction is the lake itself. Its used all year long, stocked with fish in the summer. Ice skating rinks are mopped in the winter, both hockey rinks and a skating circle. Great trail runs around the lake, but less than half of it is paved.. Somenic tables around. Nice parking lot.
Small park. Beautiful lake and scenery
Good spot for fishing within City limits. Nice little hike around the lake if you want a nice short walk
Quiet neighborhood park with a surfaced trail encircling a lake which is stocked for fishing from small boat or from the shoreline. During the winter months the lake freezes hard enough to allow for skating and ice fishing. There is also a nice playground and a covered pavilion easily accessible from a small parking area.
Awesome ice skating rink in winter. Well maintained by municipality.
Absolutely Gorgeous had a Fabulous time
Little park. Nice walk all the way around with great fishing spots. Its a stoked lake also
Its a nice area. What would make it better is less trash in the water and along the lakes edge. Also, a fishing dock would be useful and appreciated.
They stock the lake with rainbow trout and other fish! Most of the fish are small. You can kayak or raft on the lake. There is a small shore where most people fish. There is a SMALL playground with three slide, but very outdated. Overall is a nice quick place to toss in a line for some catch and release, or take the little fish home.
Its a nice quiet place to take your kids. A good 500 ft from the lake up the hill is a lil play gym so you can relax, read or whatever with out worrying about a kiddo falling in the lake or worse. Kayak an air rafts, not a lake for a real boat. YES; fish, on site life vests.
Beautiful lake that has a great walking/biking trail.
Its gorgeous, with a small play place and a forest path around the lake
Cool little pond in the winter for ice skating. If you live in the neighborhood then walking to it is you your best option because on a nice day the parking is scarce.
Nice lake to watch them fishing & large walk area
Beautiful lake, ducks are a plenty and this lake you can fish, or take out a small rowing boat. Theres a lot of moss and really long roots so you need to always wear a life jacket in case you fall in. The only downside is how small the parking lot is.
Great place to walk dogs or strap on your skates!
Best place to fish, walk dogs or take a stroll
It was at night, the lake looked crazy.
I personally dont like the smell of ducks, so that was a bit off puting. Walking around the lake is very nice though, people are allowed to fish and boat. There is also a play ground for little kids.
Go there often, very quiet. Peaceful
We love taking walks, riding bikes, and of course testing our boat. So refreshing.
Quiet little family area. Good for nature walks and relaxing.
Very beautiful. Didnt get a pic of the Magpie but it was there too!
It was a wonderful walking trail around the lake and little park for the kids. Its a wonderful place to go!
5 stars cos I saw a duck
Why would i go here?? I live in Eagle River
I love the trail around the lake, the lake itself is great for fishing and bird watching, taking a small boat in etc. There is also a small playground by it that is very fun for little kids and there are always people there, too. No swings though. The lake is beautiful for taking good pictures too with the mountains in the background.
Great walk.lake needs a cleaning but will not mention to city because they will just take it out of our pfd.lol
Nice playground with plenty of beach front for some nice fishing at dusk or dawn. The fish love shrimp on a bobber easy to catch even for little ones. Love the benches right at the edges of the lake to sit down and relax. Only negative is a lot of slimy grass in the water.
Beautiful
Needs a bigger parking lot but otherwise is a cool place.
Beautiful!!! But i love all lakes so im not biased.
Kids loved the sand playground!! Great place to take kids fishing too!!
Nice to get out in nature and relax on a beautiful day!
Nice place most of time
Good I was fishing kids play at playground
Such a beautiful place! Would totally recommend!
Chill safe
Quiet
Approximately 1mile long foot path around the small lake off Baxter Road between Northern Lights and Debarr. Water birds and picnic area close to the parking lot with port-a-potty in summer.
Its a short walk with plenty of people and dogs around the trail. Be careful about fishing here, though. And its also worth mentioning that the geese can be a bit aggressive, so you may want to keep your distance. :)
Not bad fishing but to many people
Nice park, wish people wouldnt trash it
I love walking around the lake in the evening. Its an easy walk but there are not very many people on the back side, so I feel like Ive been in the wilderness without having to go very far.
Man-made lake and park in east Anchorage. Quiet walking trail around the perimeter of the water. Great for dog walking. In the winter this lake is maintained by the city for ice skating.
Always beautiful.
Its a great place to ice skate during the winter or ice fish. In the summer a good trail to walk.
Always a nice place for a walk. Quite, well kept, all around pleasant park.
Good for fishing trouts
Just an amazing place... Great to visit.
Love the park
Great park for ice skating in the winter. Regularly plowed and hot mopped.
The lake has much fewer people and is smoother after they hot mop it.
A great place to take a stroll or to cast a line.
Live this place. Nice, relaxing. Good view
Great place to walk. Nice trail that goes around the entire lake.
Beautiful trout lake with a kids play area.
Decent track around the small lake with a play structure. Its hot mopped in the winter for skating.
They recently removed the porta-potty. Otherwise, it would warrant 4 stars. Excellent jogging path with several options.
Beautiful.
Caught my first 20 inch here .... usually packed so come early and get to ripping them lips
