The Anchorage Grand Hotel was a great place full of history and very large clean rooms. The access to the Train station was great for an early morning departure. It also is in a vibrant neighbor of restaurants, shops and activities which made it a great place to stay not having a vehicle.

Very clean, homey and very large rooms. Staff is extremely nice and helpful.Only thing that was a huge inconvenience was the parking, you have to pay for it either way but the only off the street that is hotel property, is about a block away.. Also loading/unloading your belongings is made very difficult they dont have but one loading entrance and its hard to get through as is..

We were traveling with our service dog and had planned to stay for 8 nights. They kicked us out after the 2cd night saying it barked. Yes it did bark when the maid came to the door. My husband is very hard of hearing and the dog is trained to alert him when someone comes to the door. We had to find another place to stay at the last minute. They wouldnt even give us a receipt when we checked out saying the manager had to do it (he wasnt there). When we finally got one emailed to us they had added an additional $80.00 to the bill for cleaning. They had not disclosed that there would be an additional charge. Very poor on their part.

We like the suite. Its quite spacial with a big living room, a kitchen and all the amenities we needed. Location is good too. Within walking distance to many restaurants and stores if its not too cold. The property seems a bit old, but I dont mind as long as its clean. Only thing is the parking lot is off site. You need to walk a block to it, which is not as convenient at wintertime.

Carpet wet. Smelled like cat pee. Spiders. Nasty unhealthy conditions. No air conditioning. They wanted to move to top floor to avoid wet soaked carpet. Claimed they didn’t know. They did. Had to leave and chk into another hotel and they refused to refund money. I am reporting them to Health Dept. My son has asthma. Unsafe unhealthy conditions. Do not recommend at all.

Lovely little hotel right in the heart of downtown Anchorage, and across the street from the Saturday Market. Quiet because of its location, with the exception of the the train. It overlooks the train depot, and, if it is hot, and you have the windows open (there is no air conditioning) you WILL hear the morning trains.

First Christmas w/o Our Dad, but it was a joy for the whole family to be there, still feelings and emotions, but an overall happy Festive Christmas was enjoyed by us all. Thank You Anchorage Grand for the memorable experience in your fine establishment.Merry Christmas and a happy new year.

I enjoyed my stay. The room was very nice. The staff was very nice and helpful. The only thing that really bothered me was the Alaska Railroad yard is literally right behind the hotel and the engineers are honking their extremely loud train horns all night long and into the early hours of the morning. I suggest if you want to get any sleep request a room facing 2nd avenue )))

Convenient to the train station, downtown, and Tony Knowles Coastal Trail. Run down/no AC and noise from the trains (understandable given the location). I had booked a king room; the hotel put us in a uqeen room (no king rooms available). The manager was rude and blamed Orbitz. Orbitz was great about refunding the difference.

Older hotel with character; very clean and updated. I like the separate bedroom/living area. Also very quiet. Staff was friendly and accommodating. I like that there was a fan in the room; with the abundance of sunlight it was nice to be able to have the windows closed but some air moving also! Would have like some type of continental breakfast for this price, though. Stressful to have to find a restaurant first thing in the morning before our travels.

Room was spacey & clean, view was great, front desk/manager was atrocious, & here’s why: my iPhone 6 WiFi signal was weak & I asked the front desk for a Node location to get the strongest signal to use my INET on my phone, she wouldn’t & flat out refused To tell me where it was (am pacing up & down the hallway looking for one...)like either I’m a hacker, or their WiFi node is THAT precious or I’ll eat up too much bandwidth??? I’ve since called & emailed the owners of the biz, & NEVER gotten a response from them. Very telling. You’d expect a hotel employee/manager to bend over backwards for a customer & timely responses from management/owners, but NOTHING...I’d rather stay at the lesser expensive, but MORE ACCOMMODATING RAMADA INN, further down the road.

Warning... If you stay here you will have trains coming in behind the hotel all night long blowing their loud train horns and you will get no sleep! Also if you reserve a room thats supposed to have two queen beds, one of them is going to be a pull out couch. This hotel considers a pull out couch as the equivalent of a standard queen bed which was very surprising and disappointing.

We needed a convenient hotel that would work with a late arrival from the Alaskan Railroad. The hotel is a quick walk up a hill or steps from the station. This hotel fit the bill for us. They provide a very basic breakfast delivered to your door. They also have a washer and dryer available for guests on the first floor. Great bed. Warning..not too friendly for wheelchairs and strollers (unless theres a secret back entrance). When coming in from the front, you have to take a handful of steps to get to the lobby or elevator.

I liked this hotel so much. My family stayed for one night and it was quiet, clean and the front staff was friendly. What I do recommend is: DO NOT make the same mistake as we did. We parked on the street (because we werent told where to park when checking in), and got an expired meter parking ticket when we checked out the next morning at 11. Long story short, my call didnt begin or end well with the manager. She didnt want to hear our side of the story. Her consistent interrupting is what got my already stressed mood into a foul one, which lead me to eventually hanging up on her. Had she better people skills, Id have no reason to tell her repeatedly she was interrupting me as I was talking. Had we been told where to park, wed have no reason to park anywhere else than the designated parking lot. 2 stars for her (as she did offer to take care of the ticket, but we declined after dealing with her), 5 for the hotel itself. The owners did and continue doing a great job with up-keeping their hotel.Other than that, the building and location is very nice, clean and convenient.

Very nice spacious rooms. The size and amenities of the rooms are what add stars to the rating. What takes away stars is the close proximity to the train station which is incredibly loud. The curtains are very thin and the sun doesnt really set in the summer so its hard to sleep. I also found a cockroach of some sort in the bathroom.

We chose this location because it was near the train station, and we were catching the train in the morning. It was very close to a wonderful walking trail, which allowed us to take a nice, scenic walk - the perfect way to end a long travel day from the east coast. The accommodations were perfect for us. There was a small refrigerator, an oven, microwave, and other creature comforts. There was a nice sitting area with a television and table and a separate bedroom. The staff was very friendly, as well, and the place was clean and comfortable. Room was large and clean, but dated. Staff were friendly. Location was very good. Breakfast was included and was healthy. All things seem like this would be a great hotel, but if youre staying in the hotel because you want to sleep at all, choose another hotel because the proximity to the train station was not bearable. Trains were very loud and functioned at all hours of the day. The room was stuffy and no air conditioning meant that windows had to be opened which made the noise much louder. After a long night of travel and a stay at a very dirty hotel prior to that, it was a welcome relief to land at the Anchorage Grand Hotel. The Hotel Manager was wonderful as well as all of the staff. Housekeeping was superb in their cleaning skills. The bed was comfortable and the one bedroom queen suite was very spacious. The kitchen came in handy with four mouths to feed. The continental breakfast was delivered to our door by 7AM every morning that we requested it. The hotel is centrally located (basically downtown but on the edge and on the hill above the Alaska Railroad). It was close to everything including the Anchorage Market and Festival, which was on the corner diagonally. That was a huge plus because the hotel utilizes a small parking lot just next to the hotel. No fighting for parking for us. You can walk anywhere downtown from the hotel comfortably. The only thing that may not be for all is that although it is up the street from beautiful Ships Creek where you can watch people fish for salmon, and up the hill from the Ulu Factory and the Alaska Railroad, the railroad IS a working railroad. The trains run all hours of the day and night. If you are a light sleeper it takes a little bit to get used to it. Take a pair of earplugs if you need and you are all set. Besides that, if you want to take a train day trip, you are all set and can walk down the hill to the quaint terminal. The nostalgia of being across the railroad was definitely worth the whistles of the trains. It was an amazing stay. We were very pleased with the pride that the staff takes in their hotel. We will definitely return.

Theres nothing grand about this hotel. The lobby is down five steps into a half basement, theres no gift shop or restaurant, no claim to fancy at all.
