The pool here is great for lap swimmers. Another underrated area is the outdoor space. There are beautiful, mature trees and huge open lawns for little kids to play.
Fun place! But smells like weed all the time
Absolutely fantastic neighborhood park - hidden gem! Great for dogs, exercise, kids...all around favorite.
We go for the soft play room. The kids love it but it is $5-7 for only 30 minutes, and they will kick you out when it’s busy. However, it is a nice option.
Wonderful facility. Huge indoor pool, rocket ball room, soft playroom and lots more for the family.
Soft playground is $5 (local resident) or $7 (not a local) for 30 minutes of use. That’s pretty steep for such a small playground.
An amazing place that offers too many great things for the local community. The staff is helpful and nice. Lots of space and the pool is the attraction that bri gs us back for swimming lessons. There is a nice gym and a nice play area for the kiddos. The wifi is a nice bonus. The space to rent for birthdays is sweet.
Big pool. Diving boards and lanes. Fitness equipment. Pool hosts synchronized swimming team.
Nice place, but the showers usually dont work and swimming lanes closed often for classes
Great city facility. The soft/bouncy room for small children is very popular, so be ready for a wait list. Indoor pool is very modern and nice, as well.
Nice pool and staff. Lots of swimming and diving instructors use the facility. Only shortfall is that theres only one family changing room, and its very busy. Need 1 or 2 more to accommodate all the families since the wait can be long.
We like the facility for the classes offered (weve taken yoga and are now enrolled in Tai Chi) and available parking.
I have been to other rec centers and no one beats Chinquapin. Always very welcoming. So satisfied with the staff!! Love them!!
Its a great space! Staff is very friendly as always. We went to go swimming and I would have given our visit 5 stars but the water in the pool was very cold. Uncomfortably cold for it to be an indoor pool. The sitting area where people could watch on the deck was very comfortable which surprised us that the water was chilling. Otherwise our visit was good.
Their online schedule is NOT updated. I arrived to swim and entered the pool at 8.55a, and was kicked out at 9a. They had two lap lanes open from 8a to 5.45p on the schedule, but took one away at 9a. There were 6 swimmers already, and 6 swimmers CANNOT swim in one lane. Dont rely on that schedule. Make it right!
Decent facilities, decent openings.
Staff is friendly. I usually go for the open swim. My boys like the deep pool and diving boards. Theres also a small exercise equipment room, and three racquetball ball courts. Usually enough parking in the lower or upper lots. Overflow parking by the tennis courts. Proximity to T. C. Williams high school can make arrival during school start/dismissal times a bear.
Nice staff. Early mornings have swim teams in the pool with you.
Alexandria has few of these rec centers. Unlike the others, this place has a covered swimming pool. We are only interested in exercise machines, and in order to access that we still have to pay the same membership fees as any other member whether we use the pool or not. This was the main reason we canceled our membership here and purchased membership from another rec center that did not have the pool. I wish they provided different level of membership packages. But if the money is not a concern, then you will like this place. Other than swimming pool and the exercise room it has tennis courts, racquetball courts, and multi-purpose rooms. Great for kids and adults. Free WIFI coverage is limited, but allows you to read your phone/tablet in certain locations in the facility. Free parking. Nice walking trail right outside if you feel like it.
Family splash night--my kid had a great time! Good lifesaving staff.
Theres always parking. Great for small kids: outdoor playground, indoor soft playroom ($5), and a field for flying kites or playing ball. My toddler and I love to have snack inside at the tables that overlook the swimming pool. Expect a 20-30 minute wait for the soft playroom on rainy days.
Me and my family always come here for swimming class and excercise. The place is amazing and the swimming teachers are very good. But since these few months like I can say the last 3 months the people who sit in the front desk are impolite and disrespectful. Especially when you ask questions there not happy. Today Sunday 10/30 the guy whos on the desk even ask me if I can understand English and turns to my child for confirmation. I tried to be polite and told him I perfectly understand English and ask why He asked me to pay extra 1 dollar to watch my kids swimming. They are under 12 and I cannot leave them an attended. And I heard this rule for the first time. So, now days they have different rules with different receptionist. And they treat people differently. I really sort about it. But Ill never stop coming here.
Great place for a reunion. A little clean up prior to our event was needed. We made it work. The Gazebo was lovely and perfect shelter from the sun.
Not bad, could use a building renovation.
Great athletic center for Alexandria residents. Workable gym, active aquatic center with broad array of lessons offered, rec classes, one of the few racquetball courts left. Watch for planned renovations that will probably close this for a year, then reopen to be spectacular, if the plans on display in the lobby ring true. Plus: theres a nice community of regulars to welcome you after a few weeks.
Decent pool at best. NOT a legal competition pool.NOT 25 yards-------NOT 25 Meters....CMON ALEXANDRIA CITY!! WTH???
Went there for a kids birthday party and it was great. They have a whole room thats just a padded play area with a small ball pit. Theres a pool that was pretty big and looked nice but we didnt use it. I also saw racquetball courts.
Love it, really good community center!
Pretty great community center, convenient and fairly priced. They have some weird, antiquated rules that took me by surprise and they are sometimes asking/pressuring for donations for their Advisory Board, whatever that is. Other than that, the facility is good. Clean with friendly and helpful staff.
Nice facilities. Staff is super friendly.
The gym is so old but the pool is very nice. Crowded at the weekends in the morning.
Great little gym/pool. Would highly recommend.
Staff is friendly and the place is very clean.
Our 2 year old had a blast here playing in their foam/bouncey area. I would highly recommend it to other people. The only downside is it is a little pricey, and they put a time limit on you, but that is to be expected since places like these are hard to come by!
Super fun soft play space for kids. And free.
Excellent facility but be aware this is a city run facility with all that implies.
Chinquapin has a nice 25 meter pool but make sure you check lane availability before your go. They have a ton of classes that make use of the pool that can make it fairly problematic for the average lap swimmer to get any quality swimming in.
Great place for toddlers to play and adults and kids.
Staff is very friendly. The pool has a walk-in ramp that makes it easy for early swimmers. I highly recommend their private swim lessons.
Great soft play room, just wish they extended the time a little longer. 30 minutes is too short. By the time we get down and get shoes off and my nervous son warms up a 1/3 of the time has already gone by.
I love it. There is a give viewing deck serperate from the pool so its air conditioned with a glass screen between. There are 8 lanes and a diving well and ramp in the pool. A couple water aerobics groups up the volume, but they do play some good playlists.
Customer service is not their best quality. Really dislike being made to feel like I am inconveniencing staff or managers being rude.
Great Place
Nice soft play area and pool
The soft play room is awesome for kids under 5.
Great setup and very clean. They have a lots to do.
Great outdoor space with a playground.
OK rec center. However they do not have enough open swim times. Need to be more available to public.
Its a very nice recreation center with a helpful staff, pool, and activities for children, including a squash court turned into a padded play room.
Very nice to visit I didnt get to Swim much but Good Courtesy
Was trying to find a good gym to go to I think I found it its fair and right of my price range
Good public indoor pool, only negative is that there is no hot tub
Great pool! Decent gym. Great for racquetball!
I just know them as a polling location. Their parking leaves much to be desired
The pool is great. They have great facilities, along with swimming classes.
Needs an upgrade, but good service and great place to hold younger kids birthdays
Nice rec center. Never too crowded
Website showed that it is open today on Sunday 09/11/16, but when I visited their with my family it was closed for maintenance. Very surprising that the website is not updated with this information.
Watch Chase swim was just phenomenal
Great, location to swim in Alexandria, VA.
Great place to take the kids or go for a swim! Very friendly staff!
Beautiful Well Maintained Recreational Center!
The soft playroom is a blast for kids. And the staff is A+
Good pool but a small gym
Bad services
Invigorating
Amazing pool with Olympic diving boards.

Friendly staff and nice pool!
Pool, gym, softroom

Yeah drive by and you decide.
The soft playroom is fun but can get a bit muggy.
Nice facility, pool, weight room, Racquetball. Kids room.
No complaints.
