A neat little nature center on the back end of a school. They have an assortment of local critters, a small greenhouse, and multiple displays on local flora and fauna. They are immediately adjacent to a park that runs along a creek where we went on a 50 minute walk on a mixture of paved and non-paved trails. The park are was surprisingly quiet for as urban as it is.

Cool experience, son enjoyed watching the turtles who were very active in their tank. I also liked that he got the opportunity to pet a snapping turtle. One of the staff members was very helpful.

The park itself is kinda small, and the bridge across the stream was washed out. The nature center is the reason to go. There are lots of small animal exhibits and activities.

I would like to give compliments to all staffs. We had a blast on my daughters 5th birthday party . Everyone had a great time, both kids and parents are still talking about the party and they want to go back there again or even do the birthday party for their own kids themselves. The staffs are very nice and accommodating. The center is cute and fun. This is definitely our family best birthday experience.

Attended for a birthday party. Great experience. Knowledgeable staff. The chatty bird in the rear was a HUGE hit. Very, short walking path, not as extensive as the Hidden Pond Nature Center...nice just the same.

Truly wonderful, undervisited nature center in Alexandria. The staff are EXCELLENT and always go the extra mile to make a childs visit special. There are a variety of reptiles and insects to pet, feed, and just admire, pus a child play section and a microscope for scientific exploration. The Dora Kelley Nature Area is literally a stones throw away, so you can go on a lovely hike before or after your visit. Book your next birthday party here!

Well-placed educational center in West End Alexandria.Hosted year-long after-care center through Alexandria City Recreation. Gave our daughter an educational outlet afterschool, with an emphasis on the wonders of the small park near the Nature Center. A lot of outside time, getting dirty and looking for bugs and snakes! Also, art and enrichment activity with dedicated, caring staff who are interested in the students.

This nature center was awesome. They have great displays and activities for the kids. It is a bit more spacious and less crowded than some other nature centers weve been to in Fairfax county. I didnt expect them to, but when my son asked if he could pet one of the snakes, a member of the staff pulled out a snake and let him pet it. My kids have been begging to go back. The nature trail behind the building goes down the hill to the river. There is a walking trail there too.

Great little hidden local gem. Displays of local wildlife, some of which they actually catch in the stream immediately next to the center. Stop in and chat with the friendly knowledgable staff, check out the fish, snakes, turtles, frogs etc. on display, then take a hike along the stream. Not a bad day out with the kids and it is FREE!
