My first time here specifically to walk the trails. I figured it would be pretty easy, look at the scenery as I walk by, no big deal. I was surprised! Not that it was difficult, but it was a bit of a short challenge up on Geology then to Hardwood. I wish it would have been a longer, more challenging trail but it was beautiful. We will definitely go back.
I love this park but because it is not pet / dog friendly (I understand why they aren’t - to preserve the natural experience) it’s only 4 stars.Beautiful, natured focused park. Trails ranging from gravel and kid/ handicap friendly to slightly more rugged. Has everything from wetlands to fields to some of the most picturesque streams around. I went on an cold rainy day in early March so not much blooming yet.
So disappointing that they aren’t animal friendly. If you have well behaved animals and are a responsible owner then you should be allowed to enjoy nature with your pet. What a disappointment in York county.
Very nice place to hike around on the trails and one of the best Nature Centers I’ve seen. Lots of cool Taxidermy from around the world. We hiked for a few miles all over and still have lots of trails to explore. Hopping to go back to this area to see the rest. We unfortunately ran out of time and didn’t see the downstairs of the nature center :(
I love going to this place. The trails are amazing. My wife and kids really enjoy that connection with nature.
Its a beautiful forest setting, with a lovely little stream. Theres a kids play area and several walking trails. Also a nice nature center.
Great displays and surprisingly large for such a small community
Always an awesome day here! I never get tired of exploring!
Dogs are not allowed anywhere on the property. The signs are posted everywhere but its not even mentioned on the website. Thats pretty important information if you ask me...
Nice park, would love to see more frogs.
Theyve done a lot of rebuilding to these trails, lots of awesome scenery. Leaves are in full color change right now, and its gorgeous. They opened up the childrens area where theres an area to explore the creek and some little hiking trails for them. Overall this park is amazing! Highly recommend!
My son loves the nature center and the park itself, we go there a couple times a month usually. Sad to see their bee hive was wiped out twice now due to disease, thats my sons favorite part although hes afraid of bees.
My family and I loved the nature center the amazing trails! Cant wait to explore more.
Really like the nature center, and the trails. Too bad the bees got mites which wiped out the colony. 4 stars for No Dogs Allowed on trails.
Construction blocking the closest parking lot to the nature center. Observation deck and some walkways/paths closed due to construction or vehicles. Still lots of parking available. Should call ahead to check times for nature center as I think parks still have limited staff with covid phases.
My kids love the trails in the spring! Nixon County Park has many different trail paths and each has many different cool unique landmarks.
Nixon Park has a variety of well kept trails each with a unique purpose. They also have a wonderful assortment of educational opportunities involving nature. The park has continued to expand as well, preserving the natural beauty around York County for the next generation to experience.
One of my favorite parks in all of York county. Beautiful short and easy hiking trails, great to start kids on, a nice little nature walk they call the meadow, and a great place for learning about the environment, they almost always have a little something going on. I have been going there since I was a little kid myself, I now take my own kids and enjoy the experience every time I go, staff is friendly and knowledgeable, quick to answer young inquiring minds. If you love learning about nature, youll love your visit to Nixon park!
Great place to take a hike. There are lots of trails and many opportunities to see wildlife. The nature center also has a lot of neat displays when its open.
Good nature walk for family, and learning for everyone. At the time they are doing some renovations, but be sure to stop and see some turtles basking on the logs.
It is a great Park for families and friends to hike, explore, and learn a lot about the plants, animals, and history of the region. A fun day will be had by all who visit here.
Relaxing in the woods by the creek, listening to birds. Great way to relax after work !!
Nice trails and always see wild life. Visitor center is also a nice stop.
Just went to the maple sugar event with an out of town guest. The event was a lot of fun! The nature center is very clean and great for kids. There is a very nice bird watching window with feeders set up. The event was well planned out with a good balance of education and fun!
Awesome hike. Lots to see
Great for a few miles of jogging/hiking. Great nature center for kids.
Ive always enjoyed my time in this park and have gone since I was a child. Now, I bring my own family to experience nature. Dont forget to check for ticks though!
Such a great place to take the kids! Indoor animal/learning center- trails and natural park outside!
A beautiful and scenic park, full of wildlife. This is a great place to get away and just enjoy nature. The cell coverage is spotty, so its nice to put the phone away and just enjoy the park. The staff are friendly and there is a lot to see inside of the park building.
This was a nice park to take the family for the afternoon. Had a nice set of trails that people of all ages could do. The nature center is nice as well. They have a lot of natural areas outside for exploring.
It was fun, but there was construction in yhe yard and thr main room was closed for an hour- should have mentioned on website.
Outdoors, trees, and trails with the wife and children is their anything better or more traditional than a picnic in the park? Great place for photo opportunities and very cool stuff inside. This place is a must visit several times a year. The Bees are cool.
This is one of my childrens favorite places to go hiking! They love seeing the turtles on the logs in the pond and with the beginning of fall it is so beautiful! There are Trails for every type of hiker, multiple Bridges, and a great place to make memories!
Great paths, free WiFi in the Nature center, childrens nature play area. Paths are clear and zero poison ivy!
A great place to walk, relax, meditate, or run hike and get exercise. Nature is being nurtured back into its full diversity here. A trip well worth the short time it takes to get there from the closest City center.
Great place for a walk. I went on a Saturday morning and it was not crowded. Peaceful and quiet.
Very nice indoor activity for any age. Dont miss the bird display in the basement- all the way in the back room up the small stairway. It is very old and quite interesting. The assortment of animals upstairs is amazing! Polar bear, walrus, buffalo, coyote, zebra... so much more!! In the spring and summer you can watch the bees working! Also.... a great pond and several trails great for observing nature year round.
Great little park with some nice easy trails. I have not checked out the Nature Center here.
Very educational presentation (Maple Sugaring) for ages of all ranges! Great job to all the employees and volunteers for a successful event! Looking forward to visiting for some hiking!
Great for short hikes and for kids. Having a few covid 19 maintenance issues though.
Great place for quiet and shady nature walks. Just a few trails (1.5 miles is the longest loop) and small nature center.
Great walking trails.
Great place to take children...nice grounds for adults to do some casual hiking as well.
Beautiful and well maintained trails. Cool indoor space. Always a fun outing.
The park is a great family destination. There is a building filled with educational experiences and play. The grounds are perfect for a picnic in the grass. Trails are available for everyone, regardless of hiking skill. The plants and animals we view there are beautiful and varied. A visit to Nixon Park is always a enjoyable.
Great place for the family.
Always a fun trip on a day off of work. Educational and kid friendly environment. Walking trails have been improved and are now marked well. Great place to enjoy the wildlife York County has to offer
My favorite place in the vicinity for a nature walk. There are almost always things to see there even if you dont go into the Nature Center. Multiple kinds of snakes, frogs, turtles all sorts of birds, mammals, Lots of insects and spiders and stuff. Plus, if you come early enough in the morning, its one of the most peaceful places around.
Love this park for hiking and learning!
The nature center is perfect for a weekend or evening activity. This place is fun for all ages!
The setting is very serene. The trails are well-maintained year round and hikes there are as strenuous as you wish them to be. The facility is very family friendly and offers numerous events throughout the year (including campouts). We love coming here with our children!
Great nature center and natural play ground! We have yet to explore the trails as we went during reptile week. There is a shallow creek my girls enjoyed playing in.
Really beautiful trails. Most of them are loops that are only a mile or so long. So great for short hikes but also great for longer hikes because they all interconnect and you can go over to Lake Williamss trails. The trails are marked well and in good conduction. Generally only a few muddy patches near the streams. Grab a map or your might get a little lost and end up going on a longer hike than you planned!
Very cute park. You arent allowed to take dogs because they want to preserve nature. I do like that aspect of preserving but I also like walking my dogs on hikes. Pond has seating around it if you just want to take your time to enjoy it. Lots of nature!
Always a great experience! My family and I love seeing the wildlife, and the addition of new trails is a plus too. The Nature Center is a fun experience too.
We love this park. It is beautifully peaceful. We try to visit as often as we can. Doing the trails in the spring has to be my favorite so far. Everything is green, growing and chirping. Tadpoles, turtles,birds,deer... bliss.
This is an amazing nature park with a lot of fun programs.
It was a beautiful place to go it is all about Nature, Mother Earth.
Great trails for a family hike and experience nature.
Great place to walk around and c animals
Good paths, better for 1-2 people. Reptile week almost always Im July. Would definitely recommend.
Very nice and easy walk through the woods. We saw lots of wildlife. Sadly the nature center was closed due to a power outage. But next time!
One of my favorite places in the world. Not sure why but Ive loved going there since I was a teenager. Its beautiful and educational. Save the bees!
The sheer volume of taxidermy here is amazing!
Its pretty good
Was there for maple syrup weekend! Great display of making maple syrup and other maple sugar products! Experts to answer your questions!
Childrens educational programs
Has a little Museum. Nice for young kids. Lots of walking trails. Very informational place.
Good vibes here. Nice place for a day hike.
A great place for kids and adults! Loved the forest exploration area.
Diamond in the rough! Amazing nature center.
Given what it is, a small county park surrounded by private land and land owned by York Water Co., the park does a good job offering different experiences. You can enjoy the pleasure of walking trails and an indoor nature center. If youve never visited, youll enjoy the butterfly collection, as well as an assortment of stuffed mammals from all over the world. A great view of the property, while looking out at the busy bird feeders and busy bees, located within an indoor hive. Not bad for a small place tucked away in a corner of York County.
Very educational for the kids I took my grandsons to see the reptile show they like that I even learned some
Fantastic place to take the munchkins! Nature trails, beautiful foliage and you must take a tour of the nature center. There is so much for the kids to do there! From life size mounted animals to a library and costumes for the kids to wear.....just a great place to spend the day.
Great nature park. Very nice displays. And six miles of nature trails.
Ive been going here for years since I was little, so glad they take such good care of it. Love it, deffinently somewhere to venture if your looking to hike and learn a thing or two.
A really nice nature center, and a lot of trails for all skill levels!
A great place to take a short hike. Trails are well maintained and not too taxing. Pets and bikes are forbidden. The nature center offers some nice local nature information and a rather random taxidermy collection. Park programs are worthwhile, especially the summer camps for kids.
My kids absolutely love this place. Awesome place for them to learn new things.
We love this place. The nature center inside is amazing and educational. Theres so much to see. The kids love it. Theres so many beautiful trails and spots outside to enjoy as well. Lots of wildlife and sights to see. Ive been coming here sense Ive been a child and now my kids get to enjoy it and it just gets better by the years.
Lots of Nature activities that you could spend hours exploring inside and out.
The nature center is a great place for kids. Lots of trails for hiking.
Great place to take a walk and learn about nature, fun place for kids and adults
Great place to hike and be educated on wildlife.
Great natural history. Loved the hiking trails!
Great place for a walk and geocachong
Love this place. Nature center is awesome and the kids LOVE it.
Awesome place for the family, minimal cost with maximum rewards. Learn about native animals, plants they have a big display also its like 200 acres u can hike, picnic. Love it. More people should attend these places.
Great trails. Will go again.
A treasure of the York County Park system. Educational opportunities for all ages that are mostly free with registration, miles of hiking trails that connect in places with other park trails and a wildlife restoration area.
A great nature center with collection of stuffed animals like AMNH in NYC. highly recommend.
Nixon park is one of my favorites in the area. Not really great for picnic style outings but, there are some great trails and an amazing nature center. They have some really nice events through out the year about our local environment. If youve never been before or havent been there in a while its well worth the visit.
There is so much to see and do here! Its our new favorite!!!
Clearly marked trails, great indoor educationally center
Clean and relaxing atmosphere. Helpful and friendly people at museum.
Very different from the norm when it comes to York county parks. Trails to hike, sights to see, and if youre a photographer like I am, then a cool place for some photo shoots. Great place to take the kids too as they have a book store/gift shop with a small museum and visitors center with lots to see and learn!
