This is the perfect park for mostly-paved walks around trees and fields (soccer, open, etc). There is playground equipment as well as podiums available for full-day rentals. There is a dog park towards the top as well as a look out spot. This isnt the place for a wooded hike, but its accessible to most ages and fitness levels.
Great well maintained park. There serms to be something for everyone,, walking trails, athletic fields, playground,, picnic areas, dog park bmx bike venue in back of park bike trail close and much more.
People seem to follow the weight requirements for the park. Other owners have always been mindful of their dogs. Always have an enjoyable time.
Great place to exercise your dog or just have fun with her/ him. You can be by yourself or socialize too. There is as side for large dogs and one for smaller dogs. Benches and large rocks to sit on.
Beautiful park! We had a service for a loved one and it was a really lovely place to do it.
It was tranquil. Clean.bathrooms. no trash cans. Park staff not friendly at All. Ok park. Typical york pa park...Lots of hype and cannot deliver.
Lovely trial to walk through to enjoy nature. Dog park is great for your pet to get exercise .
Well maintained trails. Out of the way Park, but easily accessible. Quiet. Playgrounds, restrooms, pavilions.
Nice place for picnic have clean bathrooms. Nice country views.
Their dog park is enormous and has large areas for small (under 30 lbs) and large dogs (over 30 lbs). One section remains closed at all times so the grass can recover and such. There are tubes at the park where people can donate their shopping bags for others to use to pick up after their dog. Ill definitely be back!
Just went to the dog park area. So spacious. A great place to run and fetch. Large dog area and small dog area. Well maintained. A few benches for resting.
Went on rail trail today and stopped here for a snack before turning around. Leaves were so pretty.
We love this park!!! We live like 30 minutes away and choose to come here over all other parks. Its just great. HUGE. Plenty of space if you want to walk around in the off-leash area with your furbaby. Super clean, the rangers drive by fairly often, most visitors police themselves and the dogs quite well. Love it.
I love this park they have a dog park. Big and small playgrounds, walking/running paths. They also have pavilions to rent for events but we do picnics there for dinner often. They have several horseshoe pits, sand volleyball and a BMX riding trail.
Good Park With a Dog Park Seperated by a fence. The Areas Are Separated by an area with dogs under 50lbs and the other area is for Dogs Over 50lbs
Fantastic dog park! Big with lots of room to run and plenty of shade. Take your own water.
Huge space just for large dogs and a separate area for small dogs. Benches and shade throughout and quiet location. It was remarkable
Grew up here. nice place. but why no basketball court
Beautiful park with a lovely paved walking path.
I love to walk around the park. Its a little scary though with COVID19 and you see 50 to 100 people under one pavilion with no masks.
Very nice quite place and there are some nice pavilions as well.
Are you looking for glitz and glamour? Then you probably dont want a county park... But if youre looking for a good park to take your dog to, this is a great choice. There are fenced in dog meadows for kiddos of the furry, 4-legged variety... playgrounds, soccer fields, excercise stations and an observatory for the 2-legged ones... and paved walking/biking trails for both. There are also pavilions, individual covered picnic tables, bathrooms and more. Its important to note that the observatory is NOT always open but when it is the club staff are knowledgable and willing to share their telescopes and experience. Also, there is a BMX bike track (or whatever the name is) but we havent been to that part. This is definitely a place youll want to check out.
Six words: Dog Park Dog Park Dog Park!! This park is extremely well taken care of. It is open and spacious. You can tell that the individuals who do the maintenance here actually take pride in their work, and because of that, us visitors both human and canine benefit greatly!! I highly recommend this park to anyone looking for a nice fenced in area to let their fur baby run and play.
This park is well groomed with lots of paved paths, a fair playground and bathrooms. This park also houses the York County Astronomical Society.
Kid friendly, dog friendly, not packed all the time. Mainly flat and super nice. Very clean park!
Its a great park lots of fun things to do.
This spacious park has room for many activities, and pavilions are very nice with plugs for roasters, etc. The restrooms are nice and clean and the grass is perfect for outdoor sports!
Great wide open spaces and playground for the kids. Lots of pavilions and activities available!
Love rail trail..at 2.7 miles on very pretty!
Big open off leash dog park separately from size dogs
Awesomely dirty park and the workout gear really sucks needs new work section
I live minutes from the Buchanan Dog Park in Lancaster, PA. Driving the distance to come here was soooo worth it. I love how spacious it is. I love the green grass and trees for shade. And, although its nice that Buchanan has many trash receptacles for doggie waste, that also makes for a pretty nasty smell everywhere you turn. Ill take the little walk down to the dumpster here any day when it means I dont have to hold my breath walking in and out of the play area!
Always well taken care of nice place for fresh air and a walk
Very good for walks and family activities at the pavilions. Area for the dogs to run free.
They have a great dog park for small and large dogs. Wish the lot near the dog park was bigger though! Overflow parking not far away.
I have taken daily walks on the trail beginning at the ball fields at Emigsville Road, along the Codorus and up into JR park for the past 12 years and call it my happy place. Since COVID19, many people have time and are using the trail and I am happy they are enjoying it. However, I am disappointed is peoples behavior. People walk 2 or 3 abreast which brings them into the 6 foot social distancing guidelines. It would be considerate for them to walk single file when passing another walker/runner. Not everyone who walks their dog on the trail keeps the dog close to them and allows it to run toward the walker/runner. This can be dangerous for the walker/runner if the dog gets tangled in their legs and causes them to fall. Since the dog park is closed, I have noticed a great deal more dog poop along the trail as well. The park is there for all of us to enjoy and it is nice to see people who probably rarely took advantage of it now have the time to do so. However, I encourage people to be considerate of one another, especially during what has become a high-use period of the park.
Squirrel will come right up to u. Cant wait for the telescope to re open
Beautiful park, lots of space and gorgeous forest surrounding.
Our family rented a pavilion here today. It was a very nice place. There is a playground for children, horseshoe pits, walking trails and within walking distance of a major walking trail. There was also a place to grill using charcoal. Bathroom facilities are wheelchair accessible as are the pavilions. Very lovely day. Pavilions are for rent but you must reserve them in advance or take a chance that you can use a pavilion not reserved.
My problem isnt with the dog park itself rather googles directions to it. We ended up in a deserted soccer field with a pavilion. Im thinking now the dog park was farther into the park itself. Good thing my dogs can be off leash without running away.
Great place to get outdoors with the kids.
All the county parks are excellent and just nice places to be. John Rudy has pavilions, a playground and a nice walking path plus it is just wide open. They also have a garden area where you can see what is growing and look at all the interesting insects to be found there. A breath of fresh air on a sunny day.
Great place to spend the day with family.
We went for the dog park. It was very spacious and had different play areas based on the dogs size. The one dow side is that children must be at least 42 inches tall to go into the park. There is a $800 fine for not following this rule. I understand the reasoning behind it. However this made it challenging for our family to enjoy the dog park due to having a young child.
Great place to walk...well maintained
Nice place to spend a good time
Best Dog park in YORK!
As an animal healthcare worker I can say this is one of the best dog parks I have personally been to! Missing one star because some people just don’t know how to manage their uncontrolled dogs and the park security takes a while to come once called say a fight broke out like I have experienced only once thankfully. Size is great and fence is secure and high (although escape artists may be able to jump it if they tried) If you run out of your water you can refill it by the gate/opening. They have shade, benches, hills, flat land, trails and so much more!
Amazing dog park. A wide open fenced in area. My puppy always comes home tired and happy from her visit
We love the dog park!
A wide open park, with only a limited trails. The park is mostly open field and at one end is the dog park. Its backed up against a huge upscale neighborhood, so expect the park to be busy year round. Great views from the top of the hill. There are benches, baseball fields and bathrooms, as well as multiple parking lots and two driving entrances.
This is an excellent place to take your pup. Different fences off areas provide separation for big dogs and small dogs. We have been here twice and Chilly has made so many friends!
It is very lovely here...
Clean, well taken care of and safe place
Love all the space and my pit Lexi was so happy to run around and play with all the other dogs
Its so much fun its not just what the pic shows there is a other set with bigger slides
Beautiful area and well cared grounds.
This park provides many amenities softball, soccer fields, canine meadows and off-leash dog park, horseshoe pits, sand volleyball, a 5K cross-country course, playgrounds, multi-purpose trails, picnic tables, pavilions and gazebo rentals are available, and lots of flat paved path to walk on.
Best park ever
My dog loves run (and run and run!) at the park. And, generally, there is a nice mix of dogs there. Most people clean up after their dogs, consequentl the area are in good condition.
This park is huge with lots of space for the dogs to run and play. Also there are covered benches for the dog parents which are really nice on sunny days.
Beautiful well maintained park!! Luv coming here to either watch Nature or just to be alone w/my thoughts. Great place to have picnics or watch an occasional ball game
Very nice place
Great place! Nice walking / biking paths, play equipment and off leash dog park. Great place for kids as well as adults.
Great trails for family and advance riders!
John Rudy Park is home to The York County Astronomical Society. I went tonight for tbe first time. The other guests were friendly and helpful as to share what a beginner will need. Personal telescopes are shared with other guests to see the night sky. Inside the building, facts about Stars and Space are brought to the audiences attn. Informative. I had sooo much fun.
Very spacious and open dog park is divided by size and weight of dogs
Lots of things to do here and a dog park not too far away
We parked here to access the new northern extension of the Heritage Rail Trail, which was very nice. There is plenty of paved parking & modern toilet facilities. The park is large and beautiful; lots of picnic pavilions. The park closes at dusk.
Huge park. Dog park. Soccer/football fields. Pavilions. Greta place for a family gathering. And lets not forget the childrens playground!
An average county park. Some sports fields and playgrounds that seem well maintained. Also a dog park and a dirt bike park that I dont use but seem popular. Im most interested in hiking and this isnt a great place for that. The rail trails north end is here, if you want to ride south toward York. Theres also an observatory here where the local stargazing club meets. Check out their public gatherings every month. Theres a lot of light pollution, but the club members have nice telescopes and know how to use them.
Huge dog park. Great walking trails. Beautifully kept.
I love the dog park! We love taking our dog to socialize with other dogs. We havent had a bad experience yet. All the dogs get along nicely!
John rudy park is great park to go to
A nice trail where you can start at John Rudy Park and run to Maryland if you want
Best dog park Ive ever been to. huge open areas with trees and benches throughout. Has separate small and large dogs areas. Both are multiple acres.
Very spacious place with plenty of space for a lot of people. Nice walking or jogging or bicycling trails. Was there for heart walk
This is one of the better parks in the area. It is probably not number 1 for any individual item, however it offers a lot done well. The park is very well maintained. There is a lot of open space and a number of fields. There is a really nice paved path that surrounds a good portion of the park, which allows for multiple length routes good for walking, jogging, or biking. I recently used part of this path for my son to practice on his bicycle. I used to enjoy using this to get some exercise. Some of the path is open, some shaded. There are a number of pavilions. There are two decent play grounds. Both are nice, although I would like to see the mulch upgraded to rubber. Ive personally never been to the dog park, however I am told it is good as well. Ive also never been to the bmx track, but it has one.
Visiting York area from out of town. This park is SPECTACULAR!!!!!. A must for your furry friends. Nice and clean and a HUGE area for your dog to run. Five stars is not a high enough rating!!!!
This park is amazing! Ball fields, dog parks, amazing paved running trails, clean bathrooms, playgrounds, volleyball, pavilions. You name it and this park has it....except fishing. Theres no fishing weirdo
I participated in the Alzheimers Walk today, and it was absolutely awesome! Best place to hold a wall of any kind!
Big public park with lots of room to do many activities. This park has many trails with small up and down hills. These trails offer different walkways to accommodate different distances to make it diverse. They are also wider than other parks in the area which is nice. Bikes and skates are allowed on the trails. This county park is also a dog park. It has 4+ fenced-in dog areas for people to let their dogs loose and roam free to play with others. These areas are very big and you can throw balls, discs, ropes or whatever your dog likes to fetch. Fences vary in sizes for safety. Youre welcome to use the trails with your dog as long as it is leashed and the leash is 6 or less. Water fountains are pet friendly and have floor dispensers for the furry friends.Gazebos, restrooms, fountains, trash cans and such were very clean and garbage was picked up. There are restrooms and fountains on different convenient areas as this park is big. There are some small kid playgrounds but not many that I saw. They have mulch on the ground for safety. They were clean and looked like they were well kept.Parking areas are good, clean and in convenient areas as well. Some are paved some are not. The ones that are not, have gravel. There are many baseball, soccer, volleyball and football fields to choose. All of them, the grass was cut and well taken care off.Great place to walk, jog, run, play sports or simply spend a peaceful time.Go pay it a visit and see for yourself.
Many options for people of all different ages. Lovely dog park. Great swimming locations if you love a creek.
Natural habitat background to taxadermied animals from many places. Nature trails. Guided walking tours. Public events. Nice nature ponds and park building with library, play area, gift store and stuffed animal exhibits. Bring your camera, your family and walking shoes.
This is a great park in York county and offers covered pavilions for get together of all kinds. The park offers open fields, soccer fields, a kids playground, a section for body weight training on your own, grassy areas and paved areas for walking, running, or bicycling. The paths are also used by dog walkers and enjoyed by many. There are enclosures for your enjoyment for your dog to play and run off-leash. The areas are by dog size so that the little pups dont get hurt. This would have been a 5 star review except for there are too many people who allow their dogs to be off-leash outside of the enclosed areas and that makes it dangerous to take a good dog who may not be dog friendly. Unfortunately, other than having park police there every minute it is open, there is not too much that can be done. Please act responsibly.
Nice large well-kept park where you can hike the trails and take your pet for some exercise.
A super well maintained park with a playground for kids, a fenced off leash dog park that spans a few acres, a bmx dirt track course, wonderful shade covered walking paths and abundant nature. CLEAN bathrooms that are well maintained as well as water fountains for both people and pets. Plenty of parking, picnic areas, and pavilions abound, but for large groups make reservations as this place is popular. I would rate this place even higher if I could...
