Fun place and pretty neat as well. I wasnt aware of the $22/person price for this attraction, but they have a museum, observation area, a fun little seated ride thingy, tours of the crater itself, lots of history and information on craters and meteorites. The drive from the interstate is only 6 miles and they have fun signs along the road. We did not eat here but I did see a food area oh, and a nice gift shop. Worth the visit if you do all the fun stuff they have to offer
Buyer beware... they close early, no notice of changing hours... just take your money and look dumbfounded or walk away when you complain and no one knows the new closing hours.. I bought a ticket online(wouldnt recommend based on their policies) $20. Arrived and everything was open, walked up to view the crater (Pretty cool) and came back down to see the 4D exhibit only to be told they had closed. It was 4:45pm. Museum is lackluster at best, i dont think you could spend more than an hour here. Exhibits are basic. Their closing policy is annoying as I imagine most people are traveling through like myself, there isnt much around this place! But they say you can come back anytime in the next 2 weeks??? No thank you. If you arrive early or late, youre going to have an issue with shadows in the crater.
We had a guided tour, Aaron or Eric, not sure, but a great guide! We really enjoyed it. I would love to come back and do a full rim tour and spend more time. The walk can be difficul, I saw a lot of people huffing and puffing for air so keep that in mind. It was hot but the sunset was amazing! The gift shop has some cool stuff, the kids got amethyst and souvenir rocks and I saw some cool NASA related items. The ladies in the shop were wonderful and helpful even though we were the last to leave. I highly recommend it!
The management has done a lot of upgrades, such as a 4D show and a movie showing. Due to the pandemic its a little different but we were still able to enjoy its awe and use all the amenities minus the water showers. It is a 22 dollar entry fee but they do offer military/veteran discounts also dependents. No pets inside but ample parking.
In our opinion it was worth the money & time. We bought our tickets online & saved a little. We opted to not go on the guided tour & wonder if that was a mistake. If you have the time, I believe Id do the guided tour, especially if you have kids, theyd learn more. I recommend, where else are you going to see a meteor crater a mile wide. Very interesting!
I was surprisingly impressed! We were on our way to another sight when we realized Meteor Crater was along our way and stopped. We both enjoyed the crater views along with the information and services provided. I only wish we planned more time to enjoy displays and movies. Well done.
Really amazing experience at the Crater. Everyone was friendly. You cna do this in half a day.
Little pricey but worth it. The have a small museum you walk through and a couple of interactive items. Once you get outside you have 3 different paths to choose from to see the crater! Food court, gift shop, we brought our dog so he stayed at their Pet Ramada. Dude that helped us was really cool.
Got our money worth listening and reading about 80 % of the displays, and the guided tour on outside of the rim was quite interesting.
Its more than just a massive hole in the ground. Its a bit of a desolate drive up to the site. But the signage on the way to impact makes the drive in a little entertaining. We had the guided tour with Aaron, a local from the area who was very knowledgeable, and provided lots of info about how the crater was formed and the science surrounding it. Very cool place!
This is a very interesting stop just a few miles off of I-40. It is the largest and best preserved meteor strike in the world! There is a free guided tour every hour and half hour where you can experience walking around the rim of the crater. Theres lots of interesting history related to the site as well. This is definitely a good stop for families, were you can see a very unique natural feature!
Very cool place to stop. Allow enough time to enjoy all the activities. The museum is hands on and great learning experience. The Crater is amazing, has awesome viewing platforms for photos. VERY windy, be careful, hold onto your belongings when viewing the crater. $22.00 per person 14 years and older (June 2020)
A little pricey, but worth it. Very nice gift shop. Be prepared for lots of walk. We didnt have time to do a guided tour, the next one wasnt for over an hour. They had lots of plaques with information about the crater and the family that discovered it.
Wholly cow! Ive seen this on many documentaries but definitely a whole different level in person.Theres a museum, gift shop and guided tours to give you a good understanding of this magnificent crater.Dog friendly location, you can bring your pets and rent a kennel with AC for those hot days
This cool spot in Arizona has many interesting things to see, especially going outside to the outer rim of the crater, and the museum has a lot of interesting exhibits to offer!
So this place is really cool. It is privately owned and operated and is rather expensive for what it is. At $22 per person the experience is limited, however, they attempt to make up for it by offering 4D theater experiences and tours for no additional money. The gift shop is cool too. With covid there werent that many people walking around and all the amenities were open.
Something Ive always wanted to see! Beautiful views from the Visitor Centers walking path. Just amazing! There ARE elevators for those needing them. Great museum and gift shop. They even have a piece of that meteor!
Very cool place to visit and not far off the freeway. The facility is clean, well-organized and informative. The staff were super friendly. Best to get there earlier or soon after opening to avoid the crowds.
Incredible! Hard to believe that this 1 mile wide, 550 ft deep hole was created by a 150 ft space rock 50000 years ago. A little pricey ($22 per person, veterans 1/2 price, spouse $2 off), with some of the features not even in operation (presumably due to Covid). Not much to do other than hike to different viewpoints.
Ive wanted to visit Meteor Crater, since I was a Cosmos obsessed little boy, and my lovely fiancee, Amber Lee, was the one to finally check that off my bucket list. I was awed by the sheer magnitude of the site, and the science center presents all kinds of great information in a fun, and engaging way. I WILL be back.
We loved our visit. The place is kind of expensive for what it was but we had a great day. Our tour guide Jake was enjoyable and answered all our questions. And we tried to stump him. But he was on it. All in all i totally recommend the visit.
If you like space and things that are related to space it is definitely worth to visit! Crater itself is amazing! There is a museum too where you can find a lot of information and to see the actual part of Meteor (there is a gifts shop where you can even buy a small part of Meteor oxide). Be aware that if you wont take a free tour it wont take much time to explore everything (it took me ~40 minutes including gifts shop) . Entrance tickets arent cheap (22$ for an adult)
I have watched so much educational material on the crater, that I just had to stop and see for myself what this ginormous crater was all about. And I was for the most part not disappointed. I came to see the crater and the crater I stood in awe of. A lot of the visitors center was either temporarily closed or limited to a certain number of people, due to COVID19. The 4D theater is shut tight. But the Vista view from the rim, is about as good as it gets, still open and even guided tours are limited.
Absolutely Amazing. Well worth the trip. Excellent if you love science. Review video coming out on YouTube channel The Thin Blue Lane RV Life This place is a must see.
Had a good time. The docents were very knowledgeable. Welcome to Franklins hole!
Such a fascinating subject. In spite of social distancing the visit was remarkable. Everyone was courteous and respectful and actually because people were spaced comfortably apart, there were unfettered access to the spectacular views and werent rushed to get out of the way of others. This was especially beneficial for my 83 year old Dad, who needed a bit of extra time on the many steps. The weather was exquisite lending to a fantastic overall experience. Thanks for presenting and preserving this wonder.
In a way its a lot of nothing but I was curious to see it myself. Very nice museum, visitor center and crater viewing areas that did not require much walking. Once inside the rim its really hard to understand the scale. Only 6 easy miles off the highway. Friendly and welcoming staff.
The Greatest and first IN THE WORLD!! I can see it from my home planet.
Really breathtaking! To see something so massive you realize how small we really are. A great museum and gift shop to visit as well.
Very cool. Well worth the stop. Gift shop has some nice items and watch the 4d movie.
It was actually really really cool. I liked it alot. It is very interesting to know how it happened and to see the impact that a meteor made. Pretty awesome to see. After seeing the grand canyon though nothing we have seen has compared to it at all. Not really worth the cost in my opinion
Amazing how huge the crater really is. Very neat museum with cool interactive attractions. Whole thing is well maintained. Fun for the whole family.
The crater is very cool to see but the visitors center in general lacked a lot of educational value about the history of the area when the impact occurred, what the atmosphere might have been like, how loud the sound might have been, etc.. the 4D movie is very cheesy, my kids got some entertainment from it but I wish they had connected it back to the actual crater and again, the history or science of meteors and craters. The Apollo test capsule was very cool to see. I’m not sure it was worth the price of admission, but this was something I’d wanted to see since I was a kid and learned about it in elementary school.
Would have been better if I had more time... they have a spot for dogs so they arent in the car which was awesome! Gift shop was nice but expensive. It does seem expensive for what it is but if you have time to watch the videos and get the full experience, its worth it!
Fun place, indoors museum and info center plus gift shop and outdoor viewing of the meteor crater from different deck levels.
An out of this world experience! As magnificent & breathtaking as the Grand Canyon (which is not too far from here). You start at the visitors center, which provides history and knowledge through interactive activities, props, and documentaries. Then you make your way to the rim of the giant crater where you take a moment to imagine the series of celestial events that caused it. There is no rush, so take your time Theres nothing in the area leading up to the site except the gas station upon exiting the freeway. Although parking is free, there is a fee for entering the visitor center. You cannot see the crater otherwise.
Nice little detour from i40 for a while. Cool interactive exhibits and the crater itself is of course very interesting.
Definitely something to check out. Its a little pricey, but worth the visit. The visitors center is nice. You can read about the crater and other things about space travels as well as different types of rocks they found at the crater.
OMG! Thats a big hole. It is unbelievable and hard to describe. Visitors center is much like most others, but cute. Good food, great gifts.
Awesome place to learn about meteors and impact holes. I recommend this place to visit during vacation.
This place isnt just a landmark, but a whole museum. Its well worth the admission fee. The gift shop is really cool with clothes i would actually wear.
This place was amazing. Went on a 1 hour tour and we learned so much. Was very windy so I would recommend not wearing a hat. It will blow off as my daughter found out.
It was pretty awesome. Not crowded at all. Hit the gift shop last otherwise you will be carrying around some heavy cool stuff. Dont forget a good camera. Cell phone pics dont do it justice.
It is well worth the money. Took my grandkids this last weekend the all loved it there was something for all ages. Especially if you like rocks or science.
Pretty cool. Will be back soon. Not gonna share any pictures cuz if you wanna see, go visit it yourself. There is definitely truck parking. Not a lot, but enough for a few trucks and RVs. It is wheelchair accessible
Do not miss this place. Great visitor center. Awesome story of the most intact meteor crater in the world. Workers were super friendly. They really seem to enjoy their job.
Amazing 50 thousand year old crater. Tour is very well done and gives you a lot of information on the craters creation and history. Theres even parts of a crashed airplane at the craters base.
What a great site to visit! Employees very friendly, excited and knowledgeable. It was actually quite more interesting than I anticipated. Some interaction activities, great museum, gift shop and Cafe. Enjoyed my visit very much!
Amazing view of the crater. Lots of interactive displays. Sadly, the 4D theater was closed due to COVID. They do guided tours along the rim of the crater and theres spectacular viewing on the observation deck, including the use of telescopes to see some of the landmarks etc.
I that at first, that $22 per person was a little steep but my family and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Spent several hours there...
Great museum and gift shop. Employees very informative and polite. A great stop to add to your long drive. Dog friendly too!
So very cool. Such great views
What an amazing place to visit! It is very well preserved. I would have given it 5 Stars, but I thought that it needed more ramps for scooter access.
Very cool place but a waist of money if you want to take the whole family and your kids or wife or husband would get bored after 5 min. Its not worth to go with more than 2 people. Gift shop is really expensive and the cheapest thing they have and worth paying for is a stylus pen that is free
Driving cross country with obnoxious, screaming kids? If you find yourself near Winslow, AZ, take the detour for the crater and toss those brats over the edge. Peace and quiet are only 700 to the bottom. Aside from that, its such a fine sight to see. Added bonus, you might learn a thing or two.
Great place to visit. Theres a tiny sign on the freeway but when you drove in there was a building all around the crater with a gift shop. The movie was really interesting and movie with the moving seats was fun. Glad we stopped. Its really a hidden place and worth a look if youre interested in space stuff.
6th visit. Great movie. Friendly staff. Awesome site.
Awesome and insanely big place. Make sure you come here on a cooler day so you can take the guided tour. Highly recommend!
The family had a great time exploring and it was pretty impressive to see in person. The main facility, shop, museum and bathrooms were all very updated and clean.
Cant say the visit made a deep impact in my life, but it was cool. ;) Was better than most METEORiocre side of hwy attractions!
Awesome place to visit! Definitely worth the admission! Love how much it has changed in the last 30 years!
Truthfully I didnt know much about meteors but after leaving this place I was pretty well educated and what a meteor crater was. Good information informative illustrations and videos the meteor crater creation. Very friendly staff and helpful.
Wow! What a site to see! This was an awesome experience and I wish we had more time to explore! Some attractions require masks currently which is good to know before you go!
One of the lesser known gems in Northern Arizona.Probably the only place on earth you can go and see right inside a crater a mile wide and over 500 feet deep. The tours are free once you are in and range from a short 10 minute overview to a 30 minute walking tour of the crater.Whether you are a kid or a retiree, there is something here for everyone and if you are just driving by on interstate 70, swing in and see a natural wonder of the world!
Some might say the price is steep for what you get, (my wife), but I actually enjoy going in and reading and looking at the pictures they have. Covid restrictions shut down the 4d theater, but I think it was worth it. The scopes they have out in the viewing area are pretty cool.
This was very amazing place to see. If your ever in Route 66 passing through Stop by and see for yourself. I promise you will be glad you did.
Has alot Parking, restrooms are well maintained. Have a resturant. It does have all facilities including path for disables. The old man sounds like scientist and had alot of knowlegde about the crater. But i am not convinced with that 20$, that is definitely an expensive price for an hour tour.
FUN FUN FUN! A must see! If you have a chance to visit this place, do it... You wont regret it.
Was pretty cool. But again a bit pricey
Its more than just a hole in the ground!
A wonderful experience and great learning opportunity if youre interested in geology or outer space. Highly recommended for taking older children and teens. Easily accessible for handicapped individuals.
Third time here. Always cool to being the kids and get pictures of them and the meteor crater as they get older. We used the pet kennel this time and had a pleasant experience. Half off for veterans and free for active duty.
Came here about 12 years ago and thought they had a good setup. They have definitely upgraded the facilities and the visitor center is really nice.
Great side stop on I40 trip. In about an hour, you can see the crater and go through the halls with interactive displays, experience a sensory ride and browse the mineral/gift shop.
This was a very cool place. Warning: The wind can be insane!
Super cool sight. Crazy to think how big it is. Gift shop is pricey but has some cool stuff.
The most spontaneous stop that we made was at the Meteor Crater. Let me tell you, the upper level lookout at sunset is absolutely breathtaking. And sure, the crater was cool too.
We visited here in 2009, it was fascinating to see the size of the meteor Crater! and the fact that the creater was preserved.we went on the hike around the Crater Rim, it was in the middle of nowhere
Fantastic museum and exhibits to relay how this crater came to be as well as its tie in with the space exploration efforts still underway today.
Well worth the detour. Easy to spend 2h, especially if you get the guided tour
Really a fantastic experience. Not far off the interstate, the whole facility is well thought out. Theres a neat free with admission 4d show the kids will love that shows some background info on the crater. The crater itself is really amazing; its just a short 3 minute walk. All together, it seems to be stop Id highly recommend.
Definitely worth a visit if youre passing by on I-40 already. Tickets were $22, which I thought was a little steep, but you can save a couple bucks if you buy online. Pretty interesting to check out though.
Cool place to see if youve never been, neat little gift shop and very informative!
Very cool experience. This crater is HUGE. There is an indoor gift shop and museum/educational area. I recommend the 4D movie for children. The movie is geared towards kids/teens. Its still fun to sit through, but kind of expensive. All indoor areas are wheelchair accessible. The outside area around the crater is not. There are several different viewing places. Keep small children close. There are lots of steps. There is also a lot of wind.Be sure to check out the lower viewing area to get a close-up view of the middle of the crater with viewing telescopes. There are tours but I did not go on one.
Cool place to visit. Its the worlds best preserved meteor impact site. Lots to learn and exhibits to see.
Great place, really glad we stopped here.
So amazing that that you are able to see where an actual meteor struck down 50,000 years ago. Fun fact: Astronauts even trained here to better prepare for trips to the moon.
Great facilities and educational mesuem. Not so much to see. A huge crater from different angles.
Im personally very fascinated by science, the size of this crater is unfathomable for the size of the meteor. The site is very well preserved, an interesting museum with nice stuff. My only complaint would be the price of the giftshop.
We went on the guided tour, definitely a good decision. We learned a lot and the tour guide kept it interesting. Please note, this landmark is very much in the middle of nowhere. It is worth the drive, but it is a significant drive from pretty much anywhere.
This was amazing. If you love space it is a must see.
A meteorite made this big hole....the history of it is awesome..very interesting...
Great place to stop and discover something about the universe.
I must have been born in the wrong era?! I am all for people making money, but $22 per adult is too much.It may have good information but ... I am seriously tired of the gouging. When I went to China there was so much price gouging I though how glad I was that America is different.Too many ways we are little different today.I am glad to see many other people enjoy this and they are happy to pay this much. When you pay over priced fees you vote for everyone else.In my financial perspective, $22 is too much.
A must see! Well worth the admission. Ive seen this now the times and learn something new every time... really great for the kids too!
Quiet and amazing natural phenomenon. If you enjoy science and astronomy, its a must see place!
The whole place will educate you...make you smile...surprise you and be a place to go back to..
