PHENOMENAL experience!! Enjoyed leisurely walk up and down colonial streets. Took advantage of a carriage ride ( book early they fill up fast), theres also an Art Museum on the grounds with pieces from patrons collections such as Rockefellers grandson. Pottery, portraits, furniture in impeccable condition from the 1700s!! Just go see for yourself. Mad a day of this and didnt see everything. I will be back

The Governor’s palace was pretty neat to check out. I enjoyed walking around the fruit garden and even took a snap of the tall fig trees. Playing in the maze was also pretty fun. Overall it was a cool experience to check out.

The Governors Palce is magnificent, decorations inside represent the period beautifully! My favorite room is the entrance foyer with cleverly arranged swords and rifles! Downstairs only at this time, there was still plenty to enjoy. The gardens, the maze, and the bridge over the canal should not be missed!

While it is a beautiful building, and has historical significance, dont waste your time. Went in, sat in a chair for 15 minutes, just to be shown the foyer, ballroom and the exit, really not worth the time. The gardens were beautiful, and surrounding features are worth the time to walk around

Over all it is a great time. The tour is very nice and the garden is beautiful. You could get lost in the maze and several other things there there’s a play that happens at the right nest to the maze. As your kids try to find the why out of the mazes you can watch the play. There are mane small paths for you to take.

What an amazing building. A painstakingly accurate reconstruction of one of the fanciest places in colonial Williamsburg. There were tours going every ten minutes through the first floor. I don’t know if the second floor is closed due to covid or if it’s just always closed. Either way, a wonderful experience

This is the Governors palace at Colonial Williamsburg. It is one of the buildings you get to go inside of when you purchase a ticket. There are period dresses people throughout Colonial Williamsburg who will answer questions for you. The period costumed people at the palace take you on a tour and talk to you about the history of the building and the people who lived there. There are also outbuildings and gardens that you can visit. Its a quick tour of the first floor only. Nice and educational.

On a recent visit to Colonial Williamsburg, my husband and I were able to visit the Governors Palace. Due to COVID restrictions, there was a short (20 minute) wait. (It can get MUCH longer we learned at another exhibit.) If you are sun sensitive, bring protection. Other than that uncontrollable factor, the visit was lovely. Most of the docents/actors were very knowledgeable and entertaining. They love answering questions and exchanging historical tidbits. The tour was self-guided, with little pacing. The palace is gorgeous, with striking historically-accurate colors and attention to detail. The English gardens behind the Palace are stunning; you can easily spend an hour strolling through the manicured grounds. Considering this is a replica building on the original foundations, a spectacular job has been done to bring history to life.

An excellent place to visit if youd like to catch a glimpse of what early British rule America looked like. The staff were well versed in early American history as well as the general knowledge of the surrounding buildings. The only drawback was that most of the buildings were closed due to COVID 19. Nonetheless, it was a great place to visit. Id recommend going in the fall though. It was very hot and humid during the end of June.

Great historical colonial town, an absolutely must see if you are in the area. There are literally hundreds of buildings to explore. Some are restored others rebuilt. The two most notable are the House of Burgesses, the first colonial assembly in the English Colonies. The second is the Governors Mansion, the home to the colonial governors and the newly independent state governors, including Thomas Jefferson. On a side note for you runners out there, an early morning run through the town is a delight.

Although the people who lived here, at the Governors Mansion, were in charge of the place, I wouldn’t want to have been in their shoes! Nope. Not me. It is soooo big. However. There were more than 500 slaves/servants to run the place. For me that would make it worse, I’d want to free them all and ask them if they wanted a job. And then we could all go long in a better situation. In those days there were such clear definitions of class and position. People were more concerned about feeding themselves and not being attacked. But the continued Royal British control meant all the Governors wives brought the fashions and ideas with them and along with it their religion, technology and food. This house has Windsor Castle written all over it! It looks like a mini English Palace. And it was meant to be that way. There are other ones like this all around the glob, the Bahamas, Bermuda and the rest of the Commonwealth countries to which England once laid claim. The Governors Mansion has been reconstructed so well. The Verdigris green paint just took my breath away. And one thing lingers: it’s shocking the way people were judged based purely on appearances alone. (And Still Are) Initially you would receive an audience if your wore the right clothing and had the right appearance and bearing. Manners were also a tell. That would be the first step. If you had business with the Governor, it would depend on the purpose of your visit where you would be escorted to within the Governors Mansion. We got to visit the inner workings of the home. Enjoy!

Painstaking recreation of the original. You will feel like you stepped into the 1770s. They did a great job with the childrens tour. Well worth the time. Be sure to allot some time to walk the gardens and explore the cellar, kitchen, and the rest of the grounds. There is even a hedge maze in the far back part of the property (though it was closed on the day we were there). Ask lots of questions, the historians will likely have the answers for you.
