The trail is can be hiked or biked. I ride it often. It is maintained and links to many other trails. I have seen pigs, deer, snakes and alligators. Its is flat so no technical biking here.
Beautiful nature trails. Shows Floridas natural beauty. Lots of wildlife like deer and eagles.
This was not easy to find. You have to specifically understand that youre not looking for a big sign thats going to point you in the right direction. This Trail is unassuming and rough. There appears to be two Trails one is a little over 16.5 miles and the others over 2.6 miles. The shorter one is closed at this particular time of this writing because of flooding. It stated on the map that this also was a trail that was rated for Ada. I dont know maybe there was something up the trail that allowed it but it looked to me like the just walking on it was a little on the Rough Side. This is a little piece of wilderness very close to a big city but unfortunately also close to highways. I think that I would want to go out a little bit further so that I didnt hear the noise from vehicles and feel like I was in a time and space in Florida when you could only hear the noise of nature. I saw a question from a female asking if she would be safe on the trail. I dont think a woman is safe anywhere aloneI would not feel safe as a single female. There are also a lot of restrictions and the signs are posted. I took a picture of them in case youre interested in reading them before you go out there. Such as no fishing no guns no motorized vehicles no pets etc etc.
I LOVE THIS PLACE I HIGHLY RECOMMEND, great for first dates, family outings, picnics, school field trips. There is so much raw nature so much pure natural Florida that you just can’t find anymore all packed in this beautiful trail. If it’s rained recently ID HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU WEAR RAIN BOOTS because this beautiful trail sure does get muddy very quickly. Also for handicapped or disabled people this is NOT recommended my mother who has trouble with balance and walks with a cane wanted to go back but I said it’s not a good idea with all of the tree roots that stick up it’s very easy for even an experienced person to trip while taking in the scenery.Leave a like if you found this helpful
Trail is still flooded, will try in dry season. You can still walk along the semi-paved road/biking trail that goes around the perimeter of the park (Owahee Trail)
If you want to see the real Florida this is your spot! This is my favorite place to bike. Mostly packed trails but there are areas of soft sugar sand so if you have anything other than a mountain bike it will be a struggle. Lots of hikers as well. Tons of wildlife and natural beauty so close to town! Dont be scared of the sun bathing Gators, they dont bother people unless they are bothered or youre in their territory which is the water. Definitely not a place to swim!
Google might lead you in the wrong path. Entrance is from Jog road. Place is not crowded at any given time. Part of apoxee trail is closed since last 8 months, looks like there is no plan to open it. I choose wrong day to visit... A sunny day
Nice place to walk or ride a bike. No pets allowed
The trail was flooded on 9/17/2020. Usually a great trail though.
Fun trail in suburban West Palm Beach...2 intersecting trails lead to a 4.5 mile trek through grassy preserve with abundant wildlife.. fun for whole family.
I have hiked this trail many times. These trails are maintained by the City of West Palm Beach. These are multiuse trails. You can hike, walk, run, and bike these trails. Most of the trails are vehicle paths for workers and such. You can see many critters running around including hogs, gators, squirrels, and otters. There other activities including Geocaching throughout the trail system. As close as this place is to major highways, you would never know you were there with all of the trees and such. I would recommend anyone who wants to get out come out and enjoy this park.
Really nice LONG trail and worth the walk. Beautiful and well preserved. Not much wildlife when I went but tons of beautiful picture opportunities.
If you use the levee, its a great 8 mile loop for running or biking. The interior trails are nice too but often closed from high water. I always see snail kites, so thats hard to beat.
We loved our walk thru his trails. It was perfect day, sunny but fresh temperature. We went from Miami and it was worthy. Very quiet and peaceful
Its finally open!!! And its gorgeous. It looks like a lot of the boardwalks and bridges had to be replaced, but it appears all the work is completed. I suggest you head out, I know its my new go to place when a nature walk is in order.
Nice trail, plenty of wildlife...
Very isolated and primitive trails very near West Palm. Beautiful views.
Came after the rains, Trail was partially flooded but looks like an interesting place to go in dryer weather! Had a local representative greet us as we parked!
Cant take dog on leash even
Beautiful Florida nature trail. Not much here but a trail through the Everglades. So not a great place for small ones, but a nice walk for an adventurous spirit.

I will be back! A nice variety of covered woody trails and open vistas which are jaw droppping.. not much water in April so will come back !
This is a beautiful park that’s been flooded out for a while. The short path is available. You come here and the sign says No due to flooding with no other explanation. It’s been about two months since I’ve been here and the same sign is up. If there are any recommendations on another way to the trail that’s not flooded that would be awesome. Just saving someone a trip out here. Thanks!
The Apoxee Wilderness Trail is part of the Grassy Waters Preserve, a 23 square mile wetlands ecosystem that supplies the fresh water to Palm Beach and its municipalities. There are two port a potties next to the parking lot and no water. The trail is made up of a natural earth trail, boardwalks, and sometimes prairie ponds you might have to wade through. Along the way you can expect to see wading birds, deer, and alligators. After looking at the map I see that instead of the Apoxee Wilderness Trail you can take the Owahee Trail which runs around the perimeter of the preserve. It connects to the Apoxee trail in two places. As it is a long distance this would be a good trail for biking. The first time I cam the trail was closed due to flooding. I came back and finally got to hike the full Apoxee trail, 2.5 miles with one more mile back to the parking lot. I saw woodstorks, a snake, a roseate spoonbill, great blue heron, egret, limpkin, anhinga, and an alligator. I had a great time hiking my daughter. I absolutely loved this trail.
Nature at its finest. Thankfully the trails are being redone. All the rain has put most of them underwater. But still great to walk the outer perimeter.
Great ride trail. Nothing technical but still fun to do with advanced riders or just family fun.
Hidden treasure in the midst of a very crowded area. The park is free. I havent hiked the trails when theyre wet but look forward to riding my bike up on the levee here.
Nice place to gravel ride
Nice views
Natural, wood plank and paved walking paths throughout park nice back to nature outside experience. Bring your family see wildlife, get some exercise while appreciating our weather.
Great trail for hiking or biking
This is a nice quite place to go amd relax especially if you like hiking.the main trail which is paved os small so its nice for a quick stroll or of you have kids.the side trails are longer but in paved and they are weather dependent unless you like walking in a few inches of water because they flood out.
A well maintained trail with nice views. Will be going back soon!
This is such a beautiful wetland. Love riding my bike out here, or taking a walk. You will see gator, deer, if you super lucky boars. Easy to find your way around. They have parking. Be mindful, that if their is heavy rain. Some parts of trails are not accessible.Only part I don’t like is they shut and open the gates at inconsistent times.
Apoxee trail was closed due to flooding but the area is really nice and we went to another near by trail.
Beautiful wetlands!
This is a great trail but the main entrance is closed so you have to go along jog road and go in the back way.
Small trails for jogging, biking or walking here. Its not usually busy with people and I think this is because some of the trails become flooded at times and are then closed. The trails are surrounded by swamp or marsh and with rain the wetlands flood the trails. Its a very serene place to take long walks and listen to bird songs. No pets, fishing, hunting, camping allowed.
A really lovely breezy little hike.
This trail is absolutely beautiful. Great for walking, running, or just to sit and take in some natural beauty.
Great trail for hiking. This place is not crowded at all.
Great walking trail for those without disabilities. Advertised as ok for disabled but the tree roots in the trail make it difficult.
A great place for a bike ride and hike. The Apoxxe Trl does have many areas w/ankle deep water on parts of the trail for a good part of the year but still worth the walk/ride. My late March and early April rides the trails were dry. The Apoxxe Trl has a dirt/mud surface with many tree roots, is covered/shaded in many parts, and has a few boardwalk areas along the trl. The Apoxxe Trl connects to the Owahee Trl which is a hard sand trail/road on a dyke providing miles of area to explore. Because this green space area connects w/several Wildlife Management areas, there is a decent chance to see wildlife so close to an urban area. Beautiful natural scenery (by S. Fl. standards). Worth the 45 min - 1 hr drive from Ft. Lauderdale.
This is actually two trails which connect to a larger waterway and natural preserve. Its very pretty work lots of wetlands and trees to see. Birds are there if not abundant. The two trails split off close to the entrance, and are close to a mile each way with connections to the larger trail located North above the area. Pleasant and serene.
I just started coming here a month ago and it was very dry, so I been enjoying my hikes and bike trips, but its been raining a lot recently and now Im enjoying the wetlands & flooded trails with my rubber boots on .the big L shape boardwalk full of water from end to end .Its very cool to see. Also like seeing and taking pics of all the wildlife I come across . Theres a lot out here . Hope you enjoy it here as much as I do . See you out on the trails. Dont forget your rubber boots :) stay safe.
Nice hiking spot
Very nice well kept trail! Not sure if is 5miles since it has different routes
Love this trail. You can see so much all in one afternoon - and tons of straight sun and shaded trails for running or biking. This meets up with Owahee which has a 20+ mile loop that can go all the way to Northlake Blvd!
Nice and quiet
Miles and miles of trails with many different wildlife to see. If you are walking, make sure you dress with clothing that covers up and protects you from insect bites. If riding a bicycle Ive found that you can maintain a steady pace to stay ahead of the insect but whenever you stop they are quick to find you. So far, the longest path Ive taken through the park was over seven miles long and there are longer ones posted as well.
Very relaxing and peaceful for biking and walking
Beautiful place to go on a family bike ride.
Nice roads for gravel grinding on a bicycle
We didnt get to walk the trail much because it was closed due to flooding. Very peaceful amd serine. I will return another time. We did get to see a raccoon.
Very cool place!!! A lot of trails and wildlife. If you like bird watching this is the place to go. A lot of gators
Need some watch towers to scope out wildlife
I absolutely love this place. So much wildlife to see while not having to go and support a zoo. Do be careful because some of the trail does get flooded very easily. Bring extra shoes and socks if you don’t mind getting them wet. Watch out for the bees because they will chase you lol. There are plenty of gators to see on the canal. White tail deer can be spotted on the left side of the park. Also there was a family of otters! Plenty of fish can be seen from the trail in the water as well.
Love this place for raw nature and to get away.
I regularly ride the bike trail, which technically may be called Owahee trail. Everytime I go I have seen wildlife from gators, snakes, racoons, and various varieties of birds. Recently I have been seeing the sandhill cranes with their chicks. It is a great place to get out in nature. My only drawback would be that depending on the direction of the wind there is sometimes an odor on certain sections of the trail.
Costumer Service is great The owner always making sure everything runs perfect .And of Course food is authentic Mexican.I go every Wed.night they have Live Mariachis .Is a really difrent and fun place to visit to have a good time
Hiked the Apoxee Trail yesterday, a Wednesday, and enjoyed it immensely. The trails themselves are nicely maintained, not the least bit crowded and while they only had port a-potties, they too were nicely maintained. We obviously visited off season; everything was dry, no wetlands creatures to be seen. The only reason for the 4 vs 5 stars is the poor state of the signage... the plexiglass is old and yellowed and the underlying info can barely be read... Still a very nice walk and would strongly recommend it for anyone that enjoys the outdoors!
Great bike trails....seen wild pigs, gators and deer. Bring plenty of water.
This nature area is excellent for hiking and biking. There are a couple of trails you can explore on. I come here every weekend to bike ride.
Lots of wildlife and beautiful views of nature!!!
This a great trail for walking, running, cycling. We always see a lot of wildlife. Gators, deer, raccoons, hogs, even otters once.
Beautiful and fun except i wish there were more signs. We totally got l lost in the trails!
Awesome bike trail!
Great place to explore nature without having to travel deep into the Everglades. Good paths, restrooms availabe
Great bike trails .
So cool to trudge through the wetlands. Sometimes in shin high water. Its a beautiful place to walk and see wildlife. Like almost everywhere you go in Florida the only negative is that you can hear tons of traffic and the airport is close so some days the flight path is directly above. Otherwise, outs a great spot.
Nice hard pack trail lots of real florida wildlife, yes deer, raccoons, possums, snakes, alligators and every migratory bird throughout the year from woodstorks to spoonbills once afew years ago wild flamingos three of them near the bridge over the m canal amazing birds, so as you can tell have been going there for several years it is a great mountain bike ride no jumps just twenty miles of flat trails .Hopefully this review will not bring the wrong kind of interest to this great park but as long as we all do our part we can keep it clean and safe..
Trails need Maintenance. It smells on the North as it ts close to the dump
Great for an evening or early morning ride. Beautiful scenery and the trail is well maintained and used. Lots of wildlife. Great for hiking or biking.
I had a great time hiking this trail with my family for my birthday! It can be very wet at times as it was when we went but it was hot and kept us cool. We also saw tons of wildlife! The trail is also very easy terrain and a nice walk in the outdoors.
Not much to see other than vegitation.
Good place to walk or ride a bike, technically bike are only allowed on the perimeter trail of the grassy water preserve.
I think whoever is in charge of this park should let people know that the trail is closed due to flooding or weather impacts. Its rather inconsiderate to let people such as myself drive all the way out here just to find a sign attached to the bulletin board to that effect. Come on.
Nice gravel trail in natural surroundings for an easy walk or cycle.
Beautiful area, has a nice paved loop. Most unpaved areas were flooded when I went, wasnt able to go very far along trail
Incredible experience and trials. You never know what you might run into from spoonbills to hawks to eagles to bobcats. Arrive early for best animal activity and guaranteed parking.
We return to this trail over and over again. My husband, two children under 3, and I love seeing the different birds, trees, and plants. So, much fun without having to go too far from town.
Want to escape from the hustle and bustle, no need to drive hours, its right here in our backyard. So amazing to have this piece of paradise preserved for us to enjoy year round.
A legitimate nature trail in Florida. It is punctuated by a power line path and pylons. At the end of one of the trails, the park backs up to the SWA, and you can clearly see runoff at the border of the park.
Definitely wear mud friendly shoes. Always an enjoyable trail, especially in the morning.
Hard to rate this since we didnt get to see much. Important note: dont go during the rainy season.
Great place to run or hike. Bring water and watch out for wild life
Great location and nice trail. The trail itself is gravel which was unexpected but the views and atmosphere is pure trail.
Nice walk. Was dry so we didnt see much wild life. Saw tracks, cranes, vultures, Hawks.
Nice nature trail. Excellent bike ride.
Beautiful trail. Very peaceful. Lots of wildlife
Beautiful area to hike! Lots of neat wildlife!
Wooded trails, I felt I was on a forest rather then wetlands still very nice walking or biking trail
Omg! Epic place to hike!
Great place to walk around.
Great place to take in what nature has to offer. Bring your bike it hike for miles.
Absolutely Beautiful!
