Sandy Point Bird Sanctuary

Dont even bother coming here unless you live in the area. I was coming from out of town and there was no place to park. All the lots in the area are for residents only with people manning the entrances to the lots looking for proof. All the streets are resident only parking as well! This is a BIRD SANCTUARY for gods sake not a public beach. People are going here alone typically to view and photograph birds with plenty of social distance. There were 2 cars in the lot when i tried to visit. You have got to be kidding me with this disgusting WHITE privilege of this community to block out anyone else from viewing birds in this location. GET OVER YOURSELVES!

We did a clean up for the sanctuary and surrounding beach area, what a beautiful area it is, lets hope people help keep it clean

Nice and peaceful especially at sundown. The boardwalk is a great area to exercise or just hangout in the beach or pier

Beautiful area. I wish they could put in some flowers and butterfly bushes in the area. Maybe a walk over like Silver Sands.More school education in the area too.

Took a bird photography class and the a guided walk. Amazing facility and rich/abundant bird life, plus just a beautiful area!

Good until higher tides come in and you cant walk out easily...need a raised boardwalk to alleviate people having to trample protected areas.

I grew up here and have spent many times on the sand bar as we called it.It has become a great place to walk, reflect, fish, or birdwatch. Because of Sandy Points location, it is a natural collector of unnatural things that wash ashore from the Harbor and Sound, and from outright littering. I have made it a point when I visit from Boston now to pick up some trash on each walk I make that has washed ashore or was left behind. Maybe you will join me? It will help keep this place clean and natural.

Beautiful. You dont realize youre in West Haven. Plenty of parking and great beach bluffs.

Absolutely undeveloped. Minutes away from the opposite. Sand, surf, a few rocks, birds and the occasional raccoon — whats not to like?

We have been visiting here for a few years we love it here. I love taking my Great Dane Khon to play in the sand and venture to a restaurant up the street for some fried fish which he loves as well.

We had a beautiful time on until we seen a family grandparents with a couple the had a baby Caucasian. And they left all their trash on the beach! So disrespectful for the beauty that was around.

Animal sanctuaries are a blessing and in this overly populated area truly a necessity.

Beautiful beach

A fantastic place to get great views of the ocean! Very scenic and not a busy area. There is a parking lot. Taken care of well. Dont expect to breathe in deep! There is a water treatment plant right next door and it stinks!! That also ruins the amazing view sadly. Nice place to bring a metal detector and also great for photography with or without a model.

Cant beat the easy access to a major bird migration point. Its not exotic and expect to find a rusty can or food wrapper occasionally, but its still a potentially beautiful natural encounter. Park across from the old Captains Galley.

Best place to walk on the beach in West Haven. Total solitude at the end of the beach.

Its clean and peacefulI know because West Haven United cleanup crew volunteers worked on it last weekend and its looking great!

Very nice nature area for birds. No maintained trails. Access to dofferent sides was not easy.

A perfect area to visit for a walk. Beautiful views, easy acces. Its my number one destination to release stresses and exercise. We go here very often, Its close to home and you can find all kind the restaurants in the area.

Tough walk from the parking lot all the way to the far left side of the beach, lots of seaweed and corse and soft sand.I suggest to wear a good pair off sandals or somethingGood sand walkTotally private

Not a good swimming beach,a few fishermen.

This is bird sanctuary. ..while the public is allowed in, I dont know if beach goers are aware of the fragile eggs that blend into the sand, the kite flying above that area that scares the.birds, and other activities that could harm the birds.. I think the public should be mindful of this precious endangered species and tread the area carefully....

Bird sanctuary, yea right. I lived 500 feet from there for 27 years. Its a smelly dirty swamp that floods Sold my house to the city. Because it flooded so often the city knocked it down.

Excellent shore bird spot. Many rarities seen here including ruff, American avocet, and Wilsons phalarope. Piping plovers breed here,

I like to park, listen to audio books, pickup litter and enjoy the view.

Wonderful bird sanctuary... would give it a five star if it was cleaner...
