Very nice bit of Nature. Lots of marshy bits, but good pathways on the trails to keep dry and such. A great variety of trails too which are well marked by color depending on if you want a quick walk around or a longer loop. The pond is great and theres good places with picnic tables to eat.A wonderful place to be with nature.
Great park in Waukesha county. Nice open trails that are well marked. There are also signs that inform visitors about the natural aspects of the land.
Great outdoor activity. The enjoyment is somewhat diminished by the construction project that is underway and the fact that the various trails are inadequately marked.
Great place to chill out, and smoke a bowl. Truly great stuff.
This is a small trail area, but big at the same time. My advise would be to learn what the different color of the arrows on the trails mean. If you get turned around or lost, dont worry. The trails eventually lead to multiple exits toward the parking lot. There is a route or two that may lead to main HWY roads, but just turn back and take another route and youll get back. If you are going on a hot day, dont forget the sun block as there is a huge open find trail with little shade on the walk and, of course, some water. In the summer, you will have to deal with flies and maybe bees in the open field area, but youll be fine. In addition, its FREE! Fresh air, local nature environment at its best, and a good way to get your steps in if you are using a smartwatch to keep track of those things. Enjoy!
Great nature reserve. There is a community education center and a diverse set of hikes through wetlands, forests, and hills.
Beautiful place with great trails and scenery. Be prepared to encounter a couple muddy spots. I did the yellow hike with a stroller and a four year old and we all made it with minimal mess and complaints!
Great place to visit and learn about nature and have trails you can hike.
This nature center has a number of walking paths/trails. All of the trails are marked so you know where youre going and you know how to get back to your original start point. Google maps gave perfect directions for this place. Theres also an indoor part of this nature center that has programs and information. You can even buy compost bins from here.
We love it here. The teachers are great with our kiddo.
Beautiful. Large enough but to be crowded and they always have something going on. Which now a days its wonderful.
It was great. The longest trail was a little over 2 miles which is kinda short but it was a beautiful trail.
Great nature center for a beautiful walk in the fall outdoors. Excellent facilities!
This is a beautiful and relatively easy hike and the nature center itself is fantastic. My one concern is that some of the trail markers were pulled out of the ground and not pointing their intended directions.
Fun place to hike and learn about nature. They offer fun activities for families.
Great place to go for a hike. Wish you could bring dogs, but still beautiful.
Alot of construction . Paths are unclear on how to get in. Besides thats its a beautiful place!
Its so pretty here. There are trails that go through hilly, pine forests, boardwalks that go through an area with streams, and trails that go through meadows. The main building has interesting tanks with large fish from freshwater lakes around Wisconsin and you can also see other animals.
Best classes, a wonderful resource... especially during these trying times.
We are lucky to live so close!!! What a beautiful place to walk and explore! We cant wait to make so many memories here!
We did a quick trek with kids. While it was crazy hot nothing that a handy hat wouldnt make it better ..Make sure you use your sunscreen and repellant sprays liberally ..carry water and some snacks coz you will need them if you plan to do the longer treks ..can you experience all the possible colors nature had to offer
Retzer has beautiful walking trails, including one short paved one. The education center is excellent and they always have great information to share. The events have always been a blast for the young kids.
Beautiful Nature Center with many trails that include boardwalks and little features throughout that make it worth coming back to!
Cute except ppl with dogs may not be fond of the no dog rule
This is a great little place with nice walking trails and a few flower gardens would recommend
Peaceful and very well-maintained trails. Good mix of covered and exposed paths. Lots of wildflowers, pines, clear creek. Plenty of parking spaces.
Very nice could spend the day there. Picnic tables available and great nature center.
Nice peaceful place to walk and enjoy a little nature
Beautiful nature preserve, with butterflies and birds, saw a pair of blue Jays today. Squirrels and chipmunks, hawks and owls. A few gnats on the trails, no mosquitoes were around.
Great place for families, friendly and affordable hayrides...fantastic apples and cider!!! Friendly staff!!
Varied trails from wooded, marsh and grasslands. Good for wildlife spotting. Close to Waukesha. Good for a quick walk without taking up your day.
Great place for a day hike in nature.
Beautiful, well marked trails. Plenty of lookout points for photos or just to take in the sights. Well maintained.
This place is incredible! The tall grass walkways are beautiful with plenty of fresh air! Some days are significantly more windy than others, so be sure to bring a light coat in early Spring/late Fall. The Legacy Forest is amazing with multiple mammal track samples that help explain what to expect from a solely visual standpoint. I have found white-tailed deer on multiple occasions! They feed on the corn and grass from surrounding fields. Anyways, the Legacy Forest extends to a wooded boardwalk that runs through a super beautiful forest of oak, evergreens, and a running creek that is very beautiful! Its decent in size I estimated four feet in width when I visited today! This park ig s beautiful and perfect for phogographers alike!
Nice trails, sadly no bike trails but a very nice nature center and well maintained trails
A great place for a nice hike if you are not wanting to do anything too crazy or are with people who are not accustomed to very long hikes. Has a great variety of scenery too with some prairie area and natural springs that flow through the lower part of the land.
Good experience. Sad to see it closed along with everything else. There were almost never more than 50 and it was closer to 10. Could still open carefully.
Loved it. Great hikes for little kids
Loved the scarecrow stroll lane in October!
Came here for a bridal shower and it was very nice. If you need to rent a room, I would recommend this location. We arrived early and was pleasantly surprised when we started walking around an looking at the displays. Would highly recommend you come here with your children.
Beautiful little park on the West edge of Waukesha; there are a handful of great loops to walk or hike along that theyre always improving. The lovely scenery ranges from a small woodsy creek to sunset in the pines to hilltop views looking out over Waukesha and the surrounding town. The nature center itself is excellent with fish and animal exhibits for all ages. I havent been to the planetarium but theres something for everyone here!
Amazing to have such a great recreation area so close to home. We’ve hiked here every season and love it so much! It’s also the only one of the Waukesha County Parks System that doesn’t charge an entrance fee.
This place has several well-marked trails with different levels of difficulty. The Nature Center is an excellent education destination.
The trails are well maintained and well marked. It was a beautiful place for a trail run.
It was a fun evening. Lots of things to do. Needs better organization and information where events are located. If you were expecting a quite walk to listen for owls, this event fell short. There were way too many people and the kids did not keep quite. They were too busy crunching in the snow and ice. Maybe have a kid walk and adult walk.
New improvements are impressive .
Unfortunate that I must leave a negative review considering this is a very nice park. Apparently they are using COVID as an excuse not to allow dogs and claims of “imbalance to the ecosystem.” Pathetic
Awesome experience!Really enjoyed their candlelight walk!Dont forget to visit the building/mini Aquarium to learn and enjoy your experience even more!!!Activities for kids and adults alike !Keep a lookout for all of their fun filled different activities on their website or Facebook page or just take a day and enjoy the beautiful Park.
Beautiful hiking spot
It was a ton of fun,its to look at my 4 yo had a blast. Will definitely try to come back when we can hike the trails
Great place to hike and exercise
Good walk the trail colors were a little bit hard to follow but overall good
There is no doubt that Retzor is a beautiful and well maintained nature area. However in recent years the parks usage has increased by a large degree, making it more difficult to find the peace and solitude that the area once offered.
Hidden gem of Waukesha. Nice trails and views. Great place for some easy hikes and getting outside.
Beautiful nature! Flowering trees, streams, fields, great overlook views!
Such a beautiful place and they just added in a bunch of new trails! I would recommend it to anybody looking for a relaxing place to go!
There was some interesting exhibits and activities but not that much and parking was free.
Great spot to take young curious children to learn about wildlife and nature.
My family absolutely loves Retzer Nature Center. What a great place and well run. Great trails, interesting information and learning center, and just a fun place to experience nature. Also we have done our familys portraits there fore the past 3 years now and always find new vantage places and beautiful scenery for the background.
Beautiful area. Many trails. Activities for kids. Planetarium. Huge Apple Fest coming up on September 21st. We had our granddaughters senior pictures taken here. Just gorgeous backdrops. Highly recommend. Get some fresh air!
This place was amazing. It has to be the best kept secret in Waukesha County.
It is a nice day for a walk. A good winter brake. A lot of other people had the same idea.
Great trail for familys. My 2 year old and girlfriend and I all loved it. 2 year old was able to walk through all the trails. Very pretty place we will definitley visit again
Very educational learning center! I cant wait to check out a show at the planetarium!
Great little park to take the kiddos.
Trails wind through restored farmland including a creek and fen. Very nice nature center including a planetarium. Good community outreach with many programs for children and adults all year round. Enjoy the seasons at Retzer.
A great preserve with lots of oak savanna and prairies
Always love this place any time of year!
Nice natural history displays with local food and fauna and geology. My kids enjoyed it.
Beautiful trails.
Picked up some rain barrels, the trails and checked out a free workshop with snacks (which was so popular it was almost full when I was there) . Friendly staff. This is a great asset to the area.
Awesome, natural beauty, miles of trails for hiking.
Love hiking the trails here. They have a nice indoor area too for education on nature and such. They have some animals to look at as well. I come here alone to hike and also bring my son sometimes.
Beautiful park with pleanty of trails - fun for the whole family. The nature center (when open) is a really great learning opportunity for kids and adults if all ages.
I didnt get to explore the whole center but what I saw was beautiful. Lots of open area for sight seeing. Nice and hilly for the exercise. No dogs allowed sadly. Will be heading back for a full trip though.
Awesome. LOVE this place!!!
Great trails for walking
Great hikes but also lots to explore inside when the weather isnt great. Its free! When there are no special events.
I make sure to go here at least a couple times a year! Gorgeous trails. I always see wild life (especially deer) and they aren’t very timid around people which is really cool to see. The view is breath taking. I even took my senior pictures here! All around beautiful location that I have lived near all my life but I never say no to going to!
Lovely nature center in Waukesha County. We were there for Apple Fest celebrating the glorious fall season in Wisconsin.
Its a great place for family picnics, they have a beautiful trail &most of lot of photoshoots...
Love the Planetarium!! We go every month for a new show--Its outta this world!! :)
We went for the Apple Festival. It was fun, its always fun! The band was great and people were enjoying them. Fun crafts for the kids. Good vendors. My only critique? And it seems like it shouldnt have to be said. But it should be a no smoking event and since we cant depend on courtesy from some smokers to not smoke I guess it should be posted.
Lots of trails, fun events and a really neat nature center with an aquarium with native fish. Lots of indoor outdoor activities.
Love hiking and shooting here!
