If you are going to Washington DC and want to see the White House you really cannot avoid Lafayette Square. It is a large square filled with tourists, many Secret Service police and protestors of all types. There are statues in the Square and you can get some really great pictures of the White House. Despite the frequent protests and police presence, it is easy to navigate around the park and see democracy in action.
Large spacious park sitting in front of the White House. It’s a must visit spot in DC to not only see where the president lived, but to experience centuries of history in this renowned square. Absolutely gorgeous in the spring and winter time when flowers and snow are abundant, respectively. Also find time to see and learn about the longest protest ever, which is still going on today in the park in front of the square.
A gorgeous park next to the White House, its full of great monuments and sculptures. Most of them commemorate the Revolutionary War. If youre visiting the White House, make sure to walk through the park. It makes for a pleasant and leafy setting to your history-exploration expedition. There are nearby monuments that people tend to miss. This includes the First Infantry Division monument near the Eisenhower Building.Dont be like everyone else and waste all your time taking selfies at the White House lawn. Go over to the nearby monuments and walk around the neighborhood. It will be worth your while.
This is amazing place with full accessibility for Disabled and senior citizens beautiful garden outside and inside washroom facilities available for disabled and wheelchair users. Different kinds of foods available near by and transport facilities easily available for disabled and senior citizens. Lovely place to visit with your family and friends.
You meet the nicest people here! My bike was overheating and we needed to stop and shut it down for a while. This sweet parking enforcement officer was understanding enough to let as stop there as log as we stayed with the bikes... of course!
Gives you some shade and rest. Nice place.
Clean, beautiful, make sure your ready to walk a lot. Hilly terrain but worth it. There is a tour you can pay extra for if your not up for the walk.
Glad we were finally able to see it.
Very calm space to meditate or morning running. And of course beautiful view on the white house backyard.
We came upon this park by accident on the way back from the White House but it is a really cool gem with an impressive statue of Andrew Jackson
Probably the best place to get a good view of the White House. Statues of prominent men are worth checking out, otherwise the park looks just like a typical urban park.
Beautiful la escaping, well kempt and clean park with a view of the White House.
We visited at night time on a ghost tour. Great way to see historical sights and learn a little about them with a twist.
Lovely park with great photo view of the White House, plenty of magnificent statues, paths, and bemches
Great park to go to, but there are always a tent protestor blocking the view of the white house from the center from the park. Beautiful park nonetheless.
Nice place to visit in Washington DC.Close to White House.Tourists attraction.
Fun and vibrant plaza/park, full of all kinds of people
While this park is typically a spectical, do not let our democratic voices distract you from taking enduring pics. There are three things you might like. Head just above the statue of the horseman and President Andrew Jackson and now facing South, you should have the horseman, the White House and the Washington Monument, all in the same frame. Also, the statues of beloved French Generals Marquis de Lafayette and General Rachambeau, that helped this nation become a Republic and then a Democracy. Also a statue of a loved Prussian, some cannons, beatific metal urns and a glimpse at what Americas have thought most important about the story, in sculpture, that we tell of others that halped shape this great country. Always recommened, rain or shine.
Plants were dying, I was surprised at how unkept it was. We also visited at night and there is very little light on statues. You would think with all the visitors at all hours there would be better lighting.
Another great piece of our history. A Free Country allows our voices to be heard. Several groups were in the park. All expressing their 1st Amendment Rights.
A pretty park located across from the White House. This is a nice place to relax with plenty of benches. There are beautiful historic statues here and colorful gardens too.
The statues in Lafayette Square and at the front and rear of the Treasury Building are among my favorites in Washington, D.C.
Fun putting a concrete fixture to a history lesson. GWs buddy has an excellent view of the white house
One of my absolute favorite places in the world. Yes, its very touristy but I live two blocks away and years from now when I no longer live in Washington DC, I will still remember sitting in this park on a lazy summer night, smoking a cigar and reading a book under a Parisian lamp post while fireflies glitter under the big droopy trees.
A great park near the White House. Quite green and greatly maintained
This place is amazing in front of White House at Lafayette square
Located opposite The White House. Its historic
Thinking its not likely the greatest time for a stroll through the park.~George Floyd, pretty tragic.
Nice view of The White House and as close as we want to get!
I wanted to see how big the White House was and sit on a bench a la Olivia Pope. House fence is under construction and there are active protests which remind me of how much I appreciate living in this country.
Great place to rest on a bench and watch the sites . . .
Always awesome to experience Washington DC and honor our Vietnam Veterans.
Pretty park, the squirrels seem very tame. The only downside was we found the White House a bit underwhelming
Lafayette statue. A good place to contemplate a little about the American history.
One of the main places of interest in the city!
Beautiful peaceful park area. We enjoyed watching the gray & black squirrels playing.
Great place to rest while looking at the Whitehouse. Alot of tourist. A peaceful park in site of the Whitehouse.
It is beautiful and has many people milling about enjoying the park. The St. Louise Cathedral is wonderful! However, we didnt appreciate all the voodoo vendors there selling dolls to put a hex on Trump!
Beautiful square with statues of people who made United States. I love the statue of Lafayette.
Every statue had a story. The US Department of the Treasury just located in one side of the White House.
A nice place to walk around as you travel from the Mall to downtown.Pretty park and some nice statues. If you are up for it, walk around all the monuments around the Mall as well.Lots of photo ops all around this area.
All divine except that we could not appreciate the white house well
Nice park, beautiful statuary, and very busy. Lots of groups of people, heard a handful of different languages, and lots of people taking photos with the vivid tulips, and with the White House in the background. I actually enjoyed seeing groups of people protesting peacefully in the street in front of the White House. It felt cosmopolitan and uniquely American all wrapped up together.
Really cool place, get to be right next to the White House, its an enjoyable square. Some times could get a bit noisy from all of the protests that people do here
Great place to stop and relax.
Unique area. creative. lots to see. watch your wallet.
Lights For Liberty rally for immigrant rights. Very well attended with inspiring speakers and songs. The names of all of the children who have died on the border over the last year were read off with how they died. Very moving.
Near to the withe house you will enjoy the greenness and refresh
Definitely a place that should be covered in dc. Went during the cherry blossom season so it was way to crowded
Great place to stroll for history buffs and Hamilton fans alike!
The square randomly closes. It was closed both days we went. No reasons are given as to why.
Took my grandchildren here during the Obama Era in the White House. They all were excited to go and see where Sasha and Malaya live. They also wanted to see Michelle Obama too!The park have large trees, and beautiful flowers (tulips). There is a large fountain where the birds swim, bathe, and drink water. There were workers sitting in the park enjoying their lunch and the scenery. The Metro bus X2 service this area from the Minnesota Avenue Metro station. There are other buses that service this are as well. The park closes at dusk and it is normally clean around the park area.
Wonderful place and enjoyed it very much! A very attractive place for tourists. Everything was awesome about this place.
I always like the flowers grown here along with founding fathers statue and view of White House. Best when cherry blossoms are there or even at falls
Cool park! Right across from the North side of the Whitehouse!
Manicured outdoor space that was visited in March during good weather. Many locals enjoyed their lunch and others a break. Great for people watching. Tourists will be taking pictures.
Always interesting to see the White House close up and check out which protesters are there that day.
Great place to visit the front of the White House
My mom was visiting me in Maryland and I wanted to show her a bit of DC. She loved the environment here. It was very clean and there was alot of sights and sound to absorb. Great experience here.
Sitting in front of the White House is always special. Serious souls mix with crazy fools and provide an interesting scene. Worth a quick stop. Good spot to meet.
Lafayette Square is a seven-acre public park located within Presidents Park, Washington, D.C., United States, directly north of the White House on H Street, bounded by Jackson Place on the west, Madison Place on the east and Pennsylvania Avenue on the south.
Although historic, I couldnt stand the really demeaning statue that was there. There were also people with signs just sitting out there.
Nice park with alot of history. I highly recommend doing the haunted tour with Amanda to learn the unsavory or dark details of the inhabitants that lived in the buildings around the park a long time ago. Beware of the horseflies or whatnot. I got bit three four times already.
3 stars because the peeps outside wouldnt let me through the gate for security reasons. Okay then, maybe I can next year? Who knows
Look much better in movies and tv shows lol
Theres no trash cans or toilets anywhere close to the park. Secret Service everywhere, but theyre super chill. Check out the Peace tent facing the White House, Phillipos is a national treasure, and the guys who help him keep the tent going are the most skillful debaters Ive met in a long time.
Very nice place. Just in front of the white house.
The view of the park and the White House youll most likely get is one on the other side of hideous black metal gates that the secret service puts up. While I understand the implications of living in a world like today and the security concerns it poses, the park was originally established for the American public to be able to experience the US government and White House. That sentiment is completely gone and the experience leaves you with a weird, frustrated feeling. Im giving it two stars instead of one as it was a good reminder of the unfortunate state of things.
Nice play to sit, especially on a baking hot day like today.
Poorly maintained by the park staff. Access to restrooms should be up until 11am in the Summer hours when the park is full of tourist taking photos of the White House. No access to trash cans, trash and debris is all over the park.
Be careful of the squirrels. Dont open any food if you sit for a minute. As the sign states dont feed the squirrels. They still come up regardless.
Very cool! History is all around.
Nice and lots of shade. Many areas closer to White House you are able to hear protestors more than youd like, but other parts of the park are quieter.
Life can have its warm funny moments in most unexpected manner, Lafayette Park has them, especially the protest zone.
A great public space in downtown Washington DC. You can get lunch at the food trucks, enjoy the outdoors, or just sit and contemplate nature in this public square. A nice place to get outside and take a few breaths.
Too many tourist around plus traffic. I just want to get my bus home
Beautiful views of the seat of power - White House, Treasury Department, and Eisenhower Executive Office Building.
Very nice. close up view of the white house and treasury buildings. Come early if you want good pictures.Lots of visitors but quick moving crowd in the morning. Security was joking around but vigilant. Lots of presence. Lots of tours available too.
So many barricades, and peaceful protesters that it ruined the view of a beautiful night scene
One of DCs most iconic places.
This is a nice park and place to relax in the shadow of the back side of 1600 Pensilvania Ave but all the construction and blocks up around the White House are killing the vibe right now.
Very beautiful in Autumn. This park with trees and benches is great place to sit and do people watching. It also very near to the White House. I really enjoyed it. Took some photos of White House and the statue.
Visited at night. Was beautiful except for some dummy protestors.
Interesting to see statues of foreigners who helped us win our independence.Do you know the story behind the tent that sits across from the White House? All the fences and barriers there are very recent. Used to be wide open.
Always a nice place to visit. Easy access to the Metro and a quick bud ride from there to the Capital and Mall. 32, 36, 30S, 30N to Capital (Via 7th St and Independence Ave) and 33 to Mall (10th and Pennsylvania Ave.)
If you are a tourist this is a good place to go.
LOVELY GARDEN SPACE THATS LOOKS ON TO THE WHITE HOUSE.
What more can you say about this. One the most iconic buildings you can visit.
A great political place that includes also a historic monument
A very good place to take photos and gave a good look at the White House.
The elegant statue of Lafayette is the highlight of this area. Dieing the day it can get crowded, with your guides giving a history lesson to their bro at the base of the statue, but other than that, a pleasant place to stroll and pause to reflect on the past and building of the nation.
Nice MonumentI have a Polish background, and it was nice to see the monument to Thaddeus Kosciuszko.
Construction sucked and we were hoping to see the President..
President Trumps house is amazing! Hes a good president!
Quiet during the early morning hours
