The theater is right across from the U St metro (and Bens Chili Bowl). It was nice inside, a little cozy but nice. They have 3 bars on the lower level, 2 in the foyer and one in the orchestra area and you can take beverages into the theater. They also partner with an app that you can pay your bar tab from your phone. You cant order ahead, but with three bars, lines werent too bad.
It was nice to see the outside of the Theatre and the neighborhood. The Lincoln Theatre was closed..
Great theater...but avoid the balcony! We went to see a show last night at the Lincoln Theater and had a great time. I cannot say enough about how beautiful the theater is and how friendly the staff was. That being said, the balcony provides incredibly poor views of the stage to the point where I had to uncomfortably crane my neck for the entire show and still felt like I was missing quite a bit. Not much you can do with a nearly 100 year old theater, but I would avoid buying balcony seat tickets if you can.
The Lincoln theater is both historical and legendary. I highly recommend catching a live concert here if you have the opportunity. Lucky for me my favorite band scheduled a date here back in December, and I immediately jumped on the opportunity to be in attendance. The staff is also extremely friendly and attentive.
Excellent venue to see a show. I went for the sold out Tim and Eric Mandatory Attendance tour. The sound and view is excellent no matter your seats. The drink prices are pretty outrageous, but I suppose that is par for the course ($8.50 for a 12 oz can of Naragansetts (dirt cheap beer).
Gay mans chorus was absolutely the most amazing, spectacular and awe inspiring choral event of my life. Skip every other holiday plans for next year and just make it to this event it will be well worth it. The joy and happiness of the crowd and the community really encapsulates the season for family and giving. Very heartfelt. A real must see.
On 4/30/2019 attended the annual Holocaust program entitled Perilous Passages Two Journeys to Survival. The program was put together by the Federal Interagency Holocaust Remembrance Committee in which I am a member. Its very informative and intimate. Two Survivors telling their stories about life during that time in history.
A wonderful venue for arts and entertainment!Lincoln Theatre hosts an eclectic collection of shows that are typically a bit different then classical theater - and thats what makes it so excellent! The seats are a bit larger than most, so youre not packed in shoulder to shoulder. The sight lines from nearly every seat to the stage are clear and unobstructed. There is a limited bar service which is also quite good, if a bit expensive.Parking is very limited in this area, so plan ahead or use taxi/ride sharing services.
I was there once (Nov 30, 2019). There was no discipline in the concert! People were standing in front of the stage and I could not see anything!I paid $235 for two tickets on the 5th row to see the performer better, but I only could see people’s lower body! There were no security to ask people to get back on their seats. For couples of time, a lady jumped on the stage, but there was no security to take care of her! Each time her boyfriend/husband/ friend took her back to her seat!
You can feel the history when you step into the Lincoln Theatre, dating back to when it was built to host African American performers during segregation. Despite the theaters age (built in 1922!), its clean and well-maintained. While not the biggest venue, its the perfect place for smaller, more intimate performances. The lobby can get a bit crowded when the doors first open, as theres a bar located there as well as being the usual location for merch to be set up. If an artist you enjoy is performing here, a visit is absolutely recommended.
Saw Richard Thompson (who was fabulous, BTW) here. This is a beautiful old theatre. The new, life-like (but bigger than life) bust of Abe in the window is absolutely creepy. The drapery around the box seats at the left side of the stage (as youre facing the stage) reminds me of something (unpleasant). What do you see? Bonus points for location--the theatre is literally across the street from the U Street/Cardoza Metro stop (Green Line). Very easy and quick trip from Greenbelt Metro! Staff was exceptionally nice.
Nice enough theater and the staff did a great job of helping out when a panhandler started yelling at us when we were lined up outside. For some reason doors were a full hour and a half before the show though - maybe because it was general admission? People were lining up at least a half an hour before doors opened, so it was a full two hours of waiting between arriving and the show starting. They also serve drinks in plastic open top cups at the bar, which is fine until you have to squeeze past people to get to a seat - I got splashed at least once, so maybe dont wear your favorite outfit (related note, there also are no cup holders in the seats). The show was great though!
This is a great venue to watch a rock show. Saw Garbage perform in October 2018 and had a great time. As a tourist, I was particularly taken by the character of the Lincoln Theatre. I’ve been a fan of the band for over 20 years, so it was satisfying to watch them perform in a venue with some history behind it. As a concert venue, it did very well. The sound was spot on, the seats and sight lines were great, and the staff was friendly and very knowledgeable about the area (I asked an usher whether or not she knew somewhere I could get cake after the concert and not only did she wish me a happy birthday, but she pointed us to a place that didn’t even list cake on their menu).
Not sure who does tech there, but there were a lot of things that went pretty wrong during the performance we attended. Sound was way off, consistently, and lighting was not great. Historic place that ran out of Lincoln logs.
Great venue for seeing stand up. Not a bad seat in the house. Intimate for a theatre; onsite bar.
Beautiful theater with great sound! I saw Citizen Cope here and I enjoyed it because hes a really chill artist, but I dont know if I would love seeing other bands here. I like the fact that it was general admission so I could sit wherever I wanted, but I kind of prefer venues that have an open pit area in front of the stage so you can get up close and stand / dance. This is a beautiful theater which has seating like a theater.. meaning the seats go all the way up to the stage and everyone just sits. I would love to see a play or a musical in this theater though, I bet it would be amazing! One other drawback is that parking sucks in this area. Metro is definitely the way to go.
I got kicked out of a a moe. show here on 420 because someone passed me a joint that I didnt even need. Classic.
Nice venue. Hadnt been here before. Intimate. Across from a metro stop. Decent amount of parking in the area but could be busy on weekends with all the restaurants in the vicinity. Facilities very clean and well maintained. Good stuff!
Closed & old, but historic
Great venue for seated shows, even if the seats are a little narrow. I like to sit upstairs and grab a drink and some popcorn. Parking is tough around the area, but sometimes you get lucky with a street spot nearby.
This cozy venue really gives you a connection with the performers. It feels like a small town movie theater or playhouse. First come first served seating with comfortable fabric seats in general admission. Nice balcony.
Nice venue for an orchestra concert, good acoustics, relatively comfortable seats and good view from the center of the M row. UStreet metro is just across the street but, there are also parking meters over U street and on weekdays you may be able to find parking space around 7 pm, I wouldn’t say the same for the weekends tough.
Came to see Michael Kiwanuka. A great theater in the true sense of a theater. Id give it 5 stars if they offered at some assigned seating rather than all general admission.
So beautiful! Just saw girls gotta eat here and it’s super easy to get here and so pretty
Great venue! Small. Intimate. Great history. Almost 100 years old! Imagine the artists who have performed here throughout its lifetime. If only these walls could talk!I went and saw Bert The Machine Kreisher. Hilarious comedian! Although, his acts are one big drunk fest so Im not sure if the blurry picture is him or a skinny Tom Segura. #MickeyMantleGenes #TomIsFat
Went for a concert on a Friday night. The facility is good, with decent sized bathrooms, concessions, and good stage visibility, even from the bottom floor sides. It was my first experience with general admission seating for an event, but the staff was helpful in getting us through the door; the line went around the corner, but it wasnt terribly shady. Excellent location to U street metro. My two biggest complaints were some problems with sounds mixing that resulted in just a wall of sound without much nuance, and that the doors took about 15 minutes longer to open than advertised, but ultimately the venue, location, and overall experience have me looking forward to coming back in the future
One of my favorite concert venues in the area. comfortable chairs. easy in and out. great acoustics.
I love being able to sit at a concert. Great venue
Small and intimate which is good when small choir in front of curtain but hard to heard small part of full choir when they were using full stage
Amazing place with excellent sound and feel of an old theatre from back in the day.
Drinks are vastly overpriced. But they sell some tasty popcorn. Dont forget to get your selfies with the creepy lifelike Lincoln outside!
Cool coozy little venue but the sound system isnt great for most music genres... however it is perfect for acoustic performances.
The theater is great for shows and events, you will only get popcorn inside as their is no other food option. They have a bar though for the drinks.
Sound was great, the theater was very cool. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Ive enjoyed each visit. Only complaints would come from the upstairs seating which leaves a bit to be desired. Or, at the least, has you wishing you were a bit taller and had flawless vision. Not to mention possibly pegging yourself for not getting closer seats. Other than that, its great!
Nice venue, close to metro, next door to Bens Chili Bowl
Great old theater with a terrific vibe. There does not seem to be a bad seat in the house. Only downside - very little in way of food or snacks. Dont come hungry. Great bars all over the theater. Take the Metro to U street station - literally across the street from the station Had a great time.
Sound always good, staff never fascist (in my experience), interior well kept and nice decorated. Great, not-too-large venue for music acts. Only strike is that the entry doors, of which there are at least four, make too much noise. In acoustic shows this can be annoying when folks are coming in and out during numbers.
Nice venue. Not a bad seat anywhere.
The sound system is amazing in this place! I saw Corrine Bailey Rae and Ruth B. at The Lincoln, and both were CRYSTAL CLEAR! Awesome time!
Wonderful venue. We saw Ingrid Michaelson. Nice seating, decent bar.
Beautiful hundred-year-old building with a remarkable history beyond what youd expect. Solid acoustics and a great place to see live music. Bathroom situation is understandably slow . Seats at the back of the main Orchestra floor have a better View than the front of the gallery
Great venue for shows. Pretty comfy seats.
Love that the seats are first come, first serve. The venue is intimate with great acoustics!
Nice venue. Clean facilities. Right across from a metro station. On street parking ok during the week but could imagine itd be a hassle finding a space on a weekend. I liked it and hope to go again.
The Anthem and others seems to be challenging the bookers of this space, but then again there are so many venues for music, it is kind of nice to have space with seats for all kinds of things. So keep it up.
Wonderful venue
Beauty of a theatre and it hosts Nightvale so.. I love it.
Lincoln Theater is a great venue and especially today because Mayor Pete was there for a fundraiser. Theres HOPE again...
Great venue for seeing a concert. Also convenient access with metro across the street.
Overall a really nice venue - literally right across the street from the metro (take 13th st. exit). Parking nearby that is reasonably priced. Not as many great eating options within a few blocks as you would expect, but there is pizza by the metro station and hotdog/ hamburger joint next door. All the seats have great sight lines as the theater is small, but the balcony is definitely pretty far back from the stage, doesnt overhang very much over the floor seats. For GA shows, the line is normally all the way down the alley when the doors open, but even at the back of the line if you are there when they open, you will get a good seat (obviously, this is general advice, if Taylor Swift were to play there, good luck). The staff have always been friendly. There are small restrooms right at the entry. Food options are limited to like popcorn and lincoln logs (chocolate bakery roll). Beers are around $8. They dont try and blow you away with the sound volume, which I greatly appreciate (but still bring my earplugs so I can keep enjoying concerts). Overall a great place to see a show - only thing that would make it better is if you could get a meal/ more food as once you are in there, you are stuck, and doors usually open 90 minutes or so before showtime.
Its a very large and GRAND theatre. The scale of the stage is impressive- it is the tallest one I have ever seen & it creates an awesome viewing experience. Theres a nice vintage elegance you dont often see in other theatres..
Great smaller venue! Could use more standing areas vs seating though!
Loved the atmosphere. A touch to the history.
Corrin Bailey Rae was Amazing! She put on a wonderful show. The bassists, electric guitarist and the drummer were also entertaining.
Came to perform with Gladys Night. Intimate theater and all seats are line of site.
Visited here to support a good friend in a play! Nice venue. Really intimate. Bathrooms are a bit outdated but sound and every else was on point.
It is beautiful and elegant. The chairs are comfortable. The staff was very nice and accommodating. I have a wonderful experience everytime I go there.
Ive been here for at least five events in the past year, and more beyond that -- most recently Tim and Eric Live and Nathan Fielder doing a sneak peek of his new season and a Q&A with the audience. Ive seen some of my favorite bands here as well. I love that this venue hosts such different types of performers -- from great bands to stand up comedy and miscellaneous other acts in between. There are really no bad seats in the house, though any act is definitely more thrilling from the floor or front of the balcony than from the very back row of the balcony. The atmosphere is laid back. You can bring drinks, popcorn, and Lincoln logs to your seat :) however, lines for the popcorn can be PAINFULLY and impossibly long. My only other complaint is that there is clearly some issue with the air conditioning this summer -- there are enormous tubes traveling through the front of the venue near the stage that must be some sort of air unit, and the air does NOT travel well to the upstairs. Luckily, fall is coming :) and there are very few other problems with this place and many great things about it.
We went to the concert of Zaz, a talented French singer. Amazing!
Ive been here for a few shows, recently Imogen Heap and Guy Sigsworths reunion tour and Mycelia promo. The historic building is well maintained, especially for the crowds it sees. It was easy to find and to park near, the assigned seating is comfortable, and refreshments are available on both floors and can be enjoyed in the seating area during performances. Most of all, it sounded fantastic and the interior of the building is just gorgeous. Cant wait to go back!
Good sound. Arrive early if you want a seat.
A very nice venue for a show with ample places to get a drink in the theater before the show starts.
Saw Misterwives and Tessa Violet here and it was Awesome!
Free popcorn! Bathrooms on multiple floorss, dont get stuck on the floor.
Great 1st date. Talent on point. Staff was very visible, friendly & helpful.
Great intimate theater in the heart of the U Street area!
Great show with seating for everyone.
Pretty place with nice acoustics, but the drinks are expensive and lousy. I do hate general admission seating and crappy wine. Also parking is seriously challenging.
The Lincoln is one of DC hidden treasures make sure to see a performance at it.
The Lincoln is a classic theater with comfortable seats, great space, and ideal viewing from any seat. I enjoy performances here.
Went here to see Billy Idol. The venue was excellent and even majestic. The small size of the place made for an intimate venue.
This is a beautiful theater - the location also cannot be beat. Its literally right across the street from the U Street station! It was a perfect venue for the show we went to see. Im not sure there was a bad seat in the house. There was also a lot of bar space and some snacks, so if youre imbibing theres plenty of opportunity (and tasty popcorn). That said, access-wise it might be difficult to navigate. I did see one person inside with a wheelchair, but I wasnt sure how they made it up the numerous little staircases throughout the building. Its not bad and there are lots of handrails, but you may want to call ahead if youre using a mobility aid.
Very cool. Comfy. Nice style.
Visited to see LP and it was amazing!! Staff was friendly, venue was clean and the concert was easily one of the best. I highly recommend attending any event here
Welcome! Nice old theater..All seats are good here...
It was the perfect venue for the Jim James concert. We loved the atmosphere, sound quality, and snack/beverage options. We found our perfect seats when arriving about 1hr before the concert. No lines at all!
Nice theater it a good location.
