I attended the production of James Baldwins The Amen Corner. The performance was fantastic. The theater is a great place to see any production. The audio, lighting, customs and set really bought the play to life. This performance was fantastic. If you can get a ticket to see this play before it leaves the you will not be disappointed.
I went for the Free for All Hamlet and it was amazing. Sitting at the top wasnt as bad as I thought it would be - it gives a great view of everything. Michael Urie was a wonderful Hamlet who brought life and angst to the character. Youre only allowed to bring popcorn into the theater, makes sense because youre watching a show. If the play starts you wont be able to come back in if you step out so use the bathroom before hand.
This is a nice theater in a great location. Its pretty close the metro and a good amount of food. Once inside you realize theres not a bad seat in the house because of its design and its size. Ive only seen ballet here and it was great for that. Tickets are a very reasonable price and the view is superb.
Love the grandeur of entering the bldg! The production of Amen Corner was awesome with some fantastic local talent. Deidre Starnes & E Faye Butler!! Love them everything I see them!! Bravo.
Really nice theater with a great location. Doesnt seem like theres a bad seat in the house. Close to a lot of restaurants.
What an incredible and classy experience! The wife and I will definitely get back there to see another show.
Our first time at this beautiful theater. So comfortable, wide aisles. I dont think there is a bad seat in the house. When in DC, dont miss a chance to see a play here.
Peter Pan and Wendy was just superb. The casting, lighting, choreography, and venue were all top-notch. A great experience.
Excellent James Baldwin play, The Amen Corner. Great front row seats in the lower balcony.
High quality, creative theatre productions steps away from Gallery Place metro. Currently Peter Pan and Wendy suitable for all ages, with flying and an adorable dog.
Free film nights in the summer! So cool. Got to reconnect with all of my favorite early 2000s films- 10 Things I Hate About You and Shes The Man. So much fun, I hope yall keep them.Ive also been here for an Esperanza Spaulding concert as well. This venue is nice, easy to get to and a great space
A great time seeing Peter Pan, everyone enjoyed the play. They did a great job performing this classic.
Amazing performance of Peter and wendy!Even from front row! Super magical! I will return.
Beautiful theater. Intimate. The ballet we saw was AMAZING. The staff was congenital and attentive.
Excellent performance, not a bad seat in the house. A snack bar w/cold sandwiches, etc, elevators, and parking is in the same building underneath.
Mock trial, called Neglect in Neverland, was funny and entertaining! Cant wait until next year.
Very accommodating to school groups. Actors are very kind and overall a great experience.
I’ve seen two plays here and they we’re both exceptional. Fair warning: if you plan on eating dinner before seeing a show and there is an event going on at Capitol One Area, make sure to make dinner reservations because your choices will be limited.
Beautiful theater, extremely helpful and friendly staff. You really cant get a bad seat in this place so there are tickets for every budget. And the productions are brilliant, creative, and beautiful.
We saw The Amen Corner which was absolutely fantastic! Go see it!
[SPOILER ALERT FOR THE PLAY: INSPECTOR CALLS. IF YOU DONT WANT TO WATCH THE PLAY, DONT READ FURTHER, BUT KNOW THAT MY EXPERIENCE WAS POSITIVE].The play we watched in the theater, an Inspector calls, was awesome. The set was interactive which was cool. The play tackles the idea that everyone should be responsible in a sense to the consequences the combinations of both their actions and other peoples actions on one particular person. The ending was awesome, and we had the chance to ask the actors questions—but that may have been available to us because we were school students.
One of the best venues in D.C. Ample parking, yet always be aware of massive traffic by both foot and by car. Seating is excellent and the sound is second to none. This particular visit was for a Netflix taping of Whitney Cummings and stand up works as well as traditional theater in this environment. Well worth the trip...
We went to see the performance of Potted Potter. The staff and ushers were helpful in pointing us to the proper door to enter to get to our seats in the easiest way. Before the performance we enjoyed a drink and quick snack. Given the venue the cost of the items was appropriate. They even had a few specialty themed items for the performance. The seats were standard. If you are a larger person you may not be as comfortable. I speak from experience. We were able to take metro in and out of town and there were two entrances near by. Will be looking at other performances here and will go back.
We enjoyed the play The Amen Corner it was very good show
There isnt a bad seat in the house! The lobby is stunning, the seats are comfortable, and the refreshments are... as expensive as can be expected. Every show Ive seen there has been wonderful.
Amazing.Go see a show. Treat yourself. These professionals will have you emotions dancing. Youll laugh when they want you to laugh, and youll feel sorrow if thats what the scene calls.Tonights event was Hamlet. It was also the summers Free For All. Thank you to the sponsors, the crew, and the cast for putting on a very special night.
Beautiful theatre - not sure that there is a bad seat in the house. Check out what they do beyond their play productions too. We attended their Bookends for Twelfth Night and were so glad we did - provided great context and some tidbits that gave me some different perspective for the show. Then, hearing from the actors directly after the show was a great treat. Happy Hour Happenings was fun too. I had no idea they provided a free jazz performance like that. Hidden gem for sure!
Not a bad seat in the house. Comfortable seats.
Enjoyed the Washington Ballet performance of all new commissioned works. Also, the temperature was very comfortable throughout.
Ive been to plays at the Sydney Harman Theater three times, all with my elderly mother. The work of the Shakespeare Theatre Company is top drawer. Above and beyond, though, the people who work at the Sydney Harman Theater -- from ticketing to ushers -- were always so very helpful and considerate with my mom. That helped considerably to make our shared experience so happy and pleasant, especially the last time when F street was shut off and we had to walk 2 blocks through a deluge of rain.
Interesting shows and I love the Shakespeare Free For All
Good theater with nice facilities. Like the interesting line up each season and mix of new interpretations and more traditional presentations. Recommend the subscription package for a good year of culture. Also watch for other events with interesting speakers and such.
I always enjoy my experiences here. Staff is great
A good and fun place to see a show
Nice performance venue pleasant staff and fun times
Peter Pan was excellent!!! Great staff as well!
Consistently high caliber staging and reimagining of classic plays
The performance of Hamet was unforgettable! Humorous, well thought out, and superb acting by the entire cast, it’s a great spin on the Shakespeare classic.
Great experience, first time seeing Richard III performed, acting and set were amazing. Last minute seats were comfortable, good view of the stage. Under 35 years old? Tickets are just $25!
I have visited Shakespeare Theatre Company in both locations. Their Free For All Events are amazing. I highly recommend using their lottery system for tickets for at least one show. Its quick and easy and Ive gotten to see some great shows. Their productions of Romeo and Juliet and The Tempest were both amazing and Im looking forward to more.
Saw Richard III, and it was wonderful. Thoughtful and riveting play. amazing venue with comfortable seating. Would come again!
Very well put together.
Productions are always top notch and the gift shop always has a good find or two
Beautiful theatre. Great production of The Oresteia. Farewell Michael Kahn. Loved the staging!
Always spectacular performances and very generous deals if you are under 35. Highly recommend!
We love our theater, we love, love Shakespeare but hated the last screaming yelling presentation of the last play which did sound like a recent bitter, hellified divorce. UGHHH.
Great time. Harmon hall is a welcoming facility and set up excellently.
Great venue. All the seats are good. Have great seats down in front but arrived late once so went upstairs to the upper level, so as not to disturb the performance. The seats up there are extra tall so you can rest your head. Delightful. The ushers are super kind and helpful as is the box office.
Open captioning, when available (twice during the run of Richard III) was very helpful. A second display might have improved things a bit more.
A beautiful and cozy theatre to visit. Great view no matter where you sit. We had a fantastic evening here at the Sexy Liberal Blue Wave Tour show!!
Be ready to chill. This is great location.
Great play venue. All seats are good. The set for An Inspector Calls was amazing.
The Amen Corner is a great play.
I parked in the garage and they would not let me back down after a show. Beware!
Very nice people and an excellent production. A beautiful theater and a nice experience, although the organizers clearly have an agenda.
Medium sized contemporary theater that offers a very nice experience. Some of the rows have much more legroom than others. Ask when buying tickets if that matters to you. Mens rest room facilities are really insufficiently sized for the theater crowd. Expect a line at intermission.
Incredible theatre! Great shows! Must come here!
My first experience and I learned another language. The theater was so very nice and the cast and staff were pleasant and professional.
Loved the performance. Literally jumped out of my seat when the villain entered from the audience. Would go back if Im ever in Washington again.
Ive had the pleasure of seeing many shows and attending a few events in this space; its always a pleasure to visit.
The venue feels intimate despite its size.
Fantastic shows every time! Shakespeare Theatre Company is the place to be to see wonderful acts of drama and comedy. I love seeing how intricate their set pieces are and how involved their actors are.
I thought the seats were a little uncomfortable and not good for tall people. Im 6 1 and the next row in front was close. It is stadium style seating so always a good view.
Beautiful theatre, very modern facade and lobbies with more traditional but versatile staging. Comfortable seating. Not too large, so views are still good from higher seats.
The Shakespeare Theater for all audiences. All plays are adapted either in time period or artistic setting. I enjoy the modern sets most of all. I subscribed for one season, 6 plays at a good price and good seats. For theater goers on a budget theres the free Happenings at Harman lunchtime series or happy hours on Wednesdays. If you subscribe to the e-newsletter you will also get special ticket promotions such as tickets under $30.
I enjoy the Shakespear Theatre Company but I have a terrible time hearing in this theater space. Im a young guy with perfect hearing and I often ask for the hearing assisted headphones. Its not that the volume in the space is a problem, its that the words seem garbled. One night I saw a production with an understudy who knocked it out of the park, I was very impressed with her ability. I think it was Chelsea Mayo?
Amazing Theater! Awesome production and performance of The Tempest! I will definitely return here. Their summer free performances are top notch. I would love to see Romeo and Juliet here.
Beautiful theater. We sat way up in the baclcony and still had great views of the stage.
In house staff is extremely kind and helpful!
Wonderful theatre offers not only Shakespeare but other plays as well. Certainly worth the $$
Nice theater, used primarily by the Shakespeare Theater company. The acoustics are great. Not many bad seats at all
Saw a couple productions (of Shakespeare, appropriately) at the Shakespeare Theatre Company. The design in both productions was very high-quality -- simple, but beautiful -- and the acting was generally great. Well worth a visit for good theater in DC.
Went to see Othello her and it was amazing. The Shakespeare Theater Company put on an amazing play that I recommended to ask my friends. The venue is really nice and has great acoustics in the performance hall.
Super fantastic theatre company #DCA
Fantastic production of the Oresteia! Michael Kahn final directed piece.
Really cool theatre in DC
Great venue. Excellent location across the street from the Capitol One Arena. No bad seats and a nice concession stand.
Saw An Inspector Calls. Acting was superb, set was mind blowing with rain, hydraulics, and shattering props. Great venue- Highly recommended.
Great theater! STC is such a wonderful asset to DC! And the best part is that they offer at 25under35 deal, meaning that if you are under 35 you can get a ticket for just $25 dollars, which is amazing considering their tickets normally run around the $90 area - avg. Im also a huge fan of their National Theater Live movie nights! Its usually around $20 and you get to see wonderful theater from across the pond, and still feel like your seeing it live!
This is a great theatre. Not only is it the Shakespeare Theatre Companys bigger house, but a lot of other events are held here. It feels like an urban space, with a big glass façade that thrusts forward from the building. When you are at the bar having a glass of wine, you look down the street at all the lights and it feels like what being downtown should be.The theatre itself was very well designed by Jack Diamond to allow for maximum configurability. It is a gem in the DC landscape.
The venerable home of the Shakespeare Theater Company. One of my favorite places to watch a show. Go there and see wonderful performances by truly talented artists.
This is always a wonderful experience even if the play isnt perfect.
I have attended two of my fellow classmates graduations there it’s a wonderful place !
