Museum itself is small. Worth going on Tuesdays or Thursdays for 2 pm tour. The tour of the murals provided by the intern was great, a unique opportunity to tour this building and gain greater understanding of its role and in the city and during DepressionOne hour free tour. Worth it.
Everything else is fine but you can’t find a parking. We walk with kids for almost a mile to see these attractions. And the public parking they offer is too expensive. So be prepared.
I Love it very much! The Best place ever. I love working there. And yes, they have everything covered..
If you are interested in understanding the history and various divisions of the US DOI...then this is the place that will break it down. From the idea conception to mission and purpose.
Typical government building high security cant get into the museum without knowing someone working in the building. The daycare is a wonderful place for children.
Great cafeteria. Loved the 15 minute video. Gift shop enjoyable
Small museum (they reduced the size several years ago) with a few interesting items to view. The buildings murals, on the other hand, are worth 5 stars and make the visit worth the time.
The Department of Interior is a massive government building just off the National Mall that also houses a small public museum. Enter through the giant doors on C Street NW, go through security, and then youre in. The guards will point you to the museum. Its free, but its TINY. One room was under construction when I went leaving me to two small rooms to tell the story of how the Department of Interior came to be and what they do today (note: They house the National Park Service among other things). The museum isnt worth you time, but what is worth the time investment are the murals sprinkled throughout the building. Once youre passed security, I was surprised how easy it is to explore. Take the historic giant staircase to the second level and see mural after mural depicting Americas natural beauty. Youll also find photographs and Ansel Adam paintings. Its beautiful!
I highly recommend visiting this if you are in the area. They also have a Native American store selling items produced by tribes all over the U.S. The store has many unique items and proceeds go to help support the artists on the reservations.
The Museum is very small but its good. I would like to mention that you need ID to enter the building. I didnt realise this and didnt bring my passport. Fortunately I had my driving license on me.
This museum looked really great from the outside! The only problem was that when I went to the museum, it was closed. However no one in the building knew it was closed except for the person who runs the museum. So we asked directions from the secretary at the front and went through security before realizing it was randomly closed in the middle of a weekday. But it was still nice to walk around the building and see some of the Ansel Adams artwork on the walls! Would recommend checking this place out!
Found this shop looking for the post office (across the hall) and got a cool t-shirt with the bison seal
There is very small two-room museum with short movie, which my kids enjoyed. We were able to walk upstairs and look at some murals that tell history of America. You can request a guided tour of the murals ahead of time. Store is filled with beautiful Native American merchandise. 3 starts because the museum is very small.
The murals on the walls of this building are pretty amazing. Its worth booking a tour for this. Only takes about an hour or so. Its a great piece of history.
The history of our most beautiful places has amazing displays!
Good prices for downtown. Hot food and buffet to weigh your food also. I like the salad bar.
If you are a History junkie you will love this museum.
Very informative. Not only a tour of the murals, but a tour of the DOI.
Very small inside. Go outside and see the real thing. Enjoy your parks and the USA.
Didnt even know it waa a museum. They asked me for employee card
A super cool place. Great soft serve! People: Absolutely take advantage of the FREE guided tours.
Great building with a small museum on it... They are still remodeling some parts of the museum. Awesome experience.
It was a little small but all the security and staff are helpful. It was really interesting
Very interesting...worth a visir
Bad relief by Henry Kirk Bush-Brown, founding president of the Arts Club of Washington.
This was ok but very light on exhibits. It was basically 2 rooms.
Its a little bit annoying to get through security, but the Interior museum is excellent. The Indian craft store is also really cool. Bison Bistro is acceptable food, nothing to write the farm about, but its cheap. The art in this building is so epic. Tons of Ansel Adams photographs that the Interior Department originally commissioned.
Amazing building !
Murals were fabulous - our intern tour guide lacked depth, but was still good.
Did not get a chance to sample the food.
Way lot of good important information good sight for searching land entry patents and files. Could use a lot more us gov. Help dealing with my land and water rights problems. Great sight Thanks Clinton
A must see when visiting, or if you live in D.C. Beautiful murals, Ansel Adams, great guides and the most amazingly, stunning building-government or otherwise, youll probably every visit. Book a tour to see it all. Youll be delighted.
Very nice Native Peoples store. Cafeteria was awesome. Staff helpful. Prices good.
If youre visiting the museum, be warned that its very small. However, its still very well done and worth the quick stop
Very small museum and the security treats citizens like criminals and offer zero guidance as to where the museum is located - would not recommend there are far better places to take in our heritage within a couple of blocks
I love this place. Just looking at the building is history all in itself.
One of DCs landmark buildings, built in 1849, it is pretty cool inside and the mission is pretty cool too
Small tour is great verify informative
Amazing building! They do a mural tour on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 2 pm. Call ahead of time to let tg2em know
A must see of our history about our public lands. And thousands of sites all thru the Great USA.
Quite small but it does a nice job of explaining the departments history and purpose.
Americas best idea!
Love museum tataly should visit
In the basement of the building, the gift shop has many choices of shirts, hats, and other gift items, including some jewelry . There is also a personalization station to add names to hats and shirts.
Nice place, great employee service at the top, bank, and postal office.
Not a museum, merely a small display. They are remodeling it, so it may be better in the future.
What an awesome place!
Feds need to do better.
Museum is being renovated so I couldnt visit.
Good weekend street parking.
I work there.
